Is there an option that can set a different screen timeout parameter when the phone is plugged in vs when it is on battery? I'm coming from a windows mobile phone and loved to be able to have my phone screen on at night while plugged in so i could find it easier

Not sure, but if you decide to pickup a desk/hdmi dock the screen will not timeout on it. You have to shut it off. And there is a night mode which is extremely dim, almost like a night light, and the screen can be read if your face is right on front of it.
Hey I got some help from people on HowardForums (Humpa) but anyways the setting is under settings>applications>development...kind of a weird place to hide something like this. Hope this helps others.

Are there anything available where I can change how long the back light/lock screen on different power source. When I'm in my car and plug my phone in I want it to stay on longer before locking the screen.

You can set the screen to never shut off while plugged in

how do I do that?
Menu> settings>applications> devolpment

actually I know that feature exist. What I want is not for it to stay on for good, I only want it on for a maybe like 3 minutes while plugged in. I tried that but it got annoying waking up in the night to turn off the back light.
Well then idk. What I can suggest is a paid app called extended controls. it applied you to build a custom power control widget. You can have an always on button

extended control works great. thanks!
Does anyone know how to disable the fully charged message, it always wakes me up in the middle of the night.
I read somthing about a hidden menu accessed through the dialer, but i cannot get that to work.
Sorry, but what is the «fully charged message» ?
When the battery is full the device tells you so, it wakes up and turns light on. Annoying when the phone lights up the bedroom. I found that there are service codes that can turn this off in other android phones. But i found no code for this on the SGT, i also did not find this setting in the service menu you can bring up through the dialer.
I found out how to turn of the "allways on when connected to power" setting, that helps ofcource. I would still like to turn off the message when battery is fully charged tho. I hoped that someone in this exellent forum found the code to do this.
Put a pillow on top of it

Put it up side down?
I use Bedside. It turns off all notificarions except phone calls from people in my contacts. SMS can either be enabled or disabled as well.
It aslo works as a clock (can disable sleep if on charger), but allos your alarm clock to still work.

Man, you should hear the one of the damn vibrant. That one *is* loud. Forced me to turn off all sound every night. Haven't heard of a solution.

2 beeps is that annoying to you? Least thats what mine does
I turn my audio off at night, it just makes 2 haptic "beeps" which wouldn't wake anyone.

one pillow and blanket on top of that or charge it in other room but i know you loved it so much you want to keep it beside you.
I've got a Tasker script running that shuts off all audio and data from 1am until 6am which stops it bugging me and saves power.
Jupp i love my GT too much, i keep it close by allways and i do not have the heart to deprive it of the net when i sleep :-D, its really the light that bothered me, it was worce before i found out how to let the GT go back to sleep when on external power tho, and now it seems ive got used to it so i dont wake up. So i guess this is not an issue any more. Thank you all for trying to help me.

Hey folks, I just got my nexus and was unable to find another topic regarding the screen timeout feature (admittedly, searching the forums on a phone isn't easy).
My Nexus 4 will not go to sleep. I have the screen timeout set to 30 seconds, and have had the phone sitting on a counter for 20 minutes, screen still ablaze. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

Wonder, why that's happening. mine goes to sleep in 30 seconds. IDK if you did this already but a good reboot might work.
Is your phone currently charging?
Settings -> Developer Options -> Stay awake
I don't know how but I accidentally enabled this somehow. Whenever I charged my phone the screen would never turn off. Once got left on for 3+ hours
Timeout Eagles
I've never encountered that
Could be due to an app.
I had the same symptoms -- screen would not turn off by itself regardless of what I had the sleep setting set to. I could turn the screen off by hitting the side button, but it would not turn off by itself.
Then I remembered that there's some apps I installed that had permission to keep the screen on, presumably even if it is not the active app on screen.
I didn't have time to figure out which one was guilty, so I rebooted my phone to unload them and sure enough the phone does sleep automatically now (until I load up the errant app again, I suppose).
Good luck.

Thread moved. Questions belong in Q&A.
It definitely sounds like an app, e.g. I have dolphin browser set so it always keeps the screen on so I can watch stuff but if I don't close the app the screen will be left on obviously when I put it down and forget it.
Thank you for moving this the proper forum. I guess it was just hanging app. I guess I was just over anxious since the phone was brand new. Now it has been documented for future users. Thanks everybody.

I've googled and searched on xda but haven't been able to find much. So at night when I place my phone on the charger ask is good until it is completely charged.
The screen pops up telling me that I now have full charge and to disconnect charger. Bad thing is.....it doesn't go away..!!! Now I'm left with the screen lighting up the entire bedroom in the middle of the night.
Now this would bother me much but my girlfriend is now waking me err up in the middle of the night asking me to turn my screen off.
Please help!!!

Go into Settings>Developer Options (if you have it enabled) and look at the "Stay Awake" option. Make sure it is unchecked. If it is checked, the screen will stay on when it is plugged in unless you manually turn it off. I am guessing this is checked for you and is why the screen stays on.

Well it looks like I may have found a solution to my problem. Found an app called Batter Charged Silencer. Not in the Google play store. Will try it tonight and see what happens.

Found a solution! PLEASE READ IN FULL
Hey man. I have a Note 3 and have the same problem. As you've probably discovered by now, the Battery Charged Silencer app does not work for our newer devices. In searching for alternatives, I found apps that provide an alarm for when the battery is fully charged. This was NOT what I had wanted, as I just wanted my light to go off when charged, but I figured this the best alternative (hear the alarm, unplug). HOWEVER, I discovered that one app in specific DOES NOT WORK AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO, and, because of this, my phone never lights up when fully charged!!! Go to the play store and get the free NEOADN FULL ALARM. I launched it once, disabled the notification bar selection because I didn't want that (so maybe do this just in case, and also leave the discharged amount option alone), picked a sound, and nothing mattered cause it never worked, never came on, and neither did my screen! One of the reviewers of this app said the app was crap cause it had to be launched each time to work. Maybe that's why it "works" for me, cause I activated it but then held my home button down and closed all apps (not thinking) and then realized it was a blessing! Just install, maybe configure how I said if needed, close your apps, and never worry about it again! (And don't ever update the app just in case they "fix" it). Hope this helps, let me know via email: [email protected]

Surprisingly the Batter Charged Silencer app did work for me. I've been good to go ever since. No more waking up to the girlfriend telling me to turn my phone off in the middle of the night
i noticed after a while my always on display turns off. is it supposed to do that even with good battery.
I also noticed that, but i had it in my pocket and after taking it out the always-on screen went on again, if i did not press the button while taking it out. But as i actually have the phone in a clear view cover, and there the always-on screen is deavtivated completely, i cannot say for sure.

My phone did the same thing the other day. Once I picked it up the display came back on.
I figured the phone was sad because I wasn't using it. LOL.
So after the night the display was still on. So just laying on the table did not turn it off. But i got a dead pixel over night. Well not really as the red pixel is only shown on the always-on display. As soon as i turn the phone on, the red pixel is gone.
there is a option in the settings that puts the screen completly off when it`s in a pocket or in the complete darkness since it`s using the light sensor on the phone.
I found in mind the feature fit toggled of somehow and I had to turn it back on. Not sure why.

Where do you find this setting?
Settings->Display--> keep screen closed(or something like that)
In my case, the actual setting for always on display keeps toggling OFF. Same for Edge Screen (Edge Panels). This has happened about five times since I bought the phone last week. I can't correlate it to anything like low battery or permissions. I guess a conflicting setting or app could be the culprit though. This has happened a few times even when I'm not using the phone for a short time. Any thoughts?
My S7 edge is doing the same thing also. In my case the Always On toggle is still set to on. I have no idea why the screen is just `turning off`.
It's a shame; I really got used to the always on.
Just a follow up; I determined why AOD kept turning itself off. Apparently dust or grime got between my tempered glass screen protector and the screen. Once I removed the tempered glass protector, the AOD began functioning again.
The same!

Don't know why, but the same happens to me, just randomly??
Mine S7, now with Oreo, also turns Always-on off it self. Maybe in connection with App updating or?. It has done that several times now.
Don't mix this problem up with Always-on turns off for power saving when screen is covered - in a pocket or face-down..
