I am not an expert in rom flashing. If you do a search there are many forums on that subject. Try searching for a forum started by a member named "Haree". he posted a good guide of flashing

Copy the cab file to your phone and run it there. It doesn't matter where you put it, but lots of people have a dedicated folder on their storage card for cab files, so you can re-install if you upgrade your ROM or do a hard reset at some point.
A cab file is basically an installer, so don't unzip it. Run it as it is.
thanxs a lot..great help ! and 1 more thing if at all you can fine me a direct button for bluetooth on and off in htc hd2..then will be of great help ! thanxs

Camcorder

I deleted the link and cannot find the .exe to restore it to. Please can somebody attach it for me from their Windows>Start menu>Programs menu.
Hi,
\Windows > HTC_CamCorder.lnk
with friendly greet
starbase64
I love you.
The icon launches the camcorder as it should but its showing the camera icon not the camcorder icon. Can anyone attach the camcorder.lnk for me please?
ive never seen a camcorder icon in any rom ive used, but here's 2 you can try from an icon pack
you can change them with JWMD icon changer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567080
Please could someone attach the Camcorder.lnk from their Windows/Start Menu/Programs directory so that I can restore mine with the correct icon.
Ding. Anyone?

I've had a look for you also, and there isn't a 'Camcorder.ink' file in there. Just 'Camera.ink'.

Thanks for confirming im not the only 1.
@airwater9
i see that you've edited your (slightly questionable) initial reply, hey im not a petty man so may i suggest 2 things...
JWMD isnt difficult to learn as you prev' said in your pre-edit post, just install - select icon you want to change - then select the icon you want to use instead - Job Done!
or if you are using a custom rom, try posting on that forum as other people should have this icon/ shortcut (.lnk), however if its stock, try posting your rom version, carrier, etc maybe someone else with the same rom will have what you are looking for.
All the best!
I think you're in luck, ive just been testing a new rom (cleanex core 1.20) & for the 1st time it has the shortcut you are after, ive zipped 3 files:
Camcorder.lnk for Windows\Start Menu\Programs\HTC (in this rom)
HTC_CamCorder.lnk & HTC_camcorder.png go directly in your windows folder (then softreset)
Hope it works for u
Right... its Beer time!
Don't you have 2 files...one to launch the camera and another to launch the camcorder?
Thanks for your help guys.

From Android, get a file explorer like ASTRO or Estrong, browse to the file - tap on it, it'll ask if you want to install it - ok and you're done.
Hello !
I did how you told me, but if I tap on it there is a message saying " no application found to open this file"
I have the same problem ... infact I dont know how to install Astro file manager...
I'm running Android from SD card on HTC Blackstone.
A little help will be apreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You can find it on the Market.
Look at your apps - there's a Market app - go in it cklick the magnifying glass to search and type ASTRO, it'll give you the search results tap on astro click install at the left bottom corner, it'll download it and install it, then click open and you have a file manager.
Don't know about kbatman99's problem, though, that's weird...
Probably the .apk is corrupt. I've got the same message when I tried a corrupt file. Downloaded it again and it worked.

Considering our FAQ's have all documented methods for installing APK's (our AndroidApps method, using a file explorer and adb install)? It's useless. Especially when considering the people who originally posted in this thread probably aren't still around, lol.

Seriously? What a worthless useless post. Instead perhaps you could try spending the effort you made typing the useless response to actually post the answer the poster was looking for....try being USEFUL instead of useless.

[Q] Extract single application from custom rom

hey,
I wanted to extract "Torch" application from "Azure" Rom and few other applications. as Torch is the only working app which did really enable the LED for HTC Legend.
I actually opened the ZIP package to path \azure-1.0.1.zip\system\app where the applications are stored, every app comes in APK and OBEX files. I extracted few APKS, non of them worked.
I am seeking some help for extracting the application from the ROM.
Thanks in advance!
lamppu is a good LED torch. You need root to use it, look in market

I have looked in market, but it doesnt seem to exist there. However, do you know anyway to extract the application as working APK file?
Any other LED torches that works with LEGEND?
*EDIT: well, I found it, its named Lamppu. but anyway it didnt work, although my phone is rooted! why is that?
Try Extended Controls, there is a Torch Widget which worked on my HTC Legend. (NOTE:Root access Required For this very Widget)

If you find a ROM that has both .apx and .odex in the app-folder you will not get it to work by only extracting the .apk file.. You need both of the files in order to include them in another ROM..
Use a backup program like Titanium backup or MyBackup pro: they will extract for you.

I already tried using Lamppu, but it didnt work on my rooted phone!

That makes sense...but who would I merge the .apk and .obex together to be in one .apk file so I can install it?
Or maybe you know some way I can install these files?
Help would be really appreciated.

You mean like after loading the custom ROM, I backup the application I want then restore them after I load the custom I want?!
This is just long process of backing up your data then load custom rom, then back to the old rom, then root then restore...
I thought there might be easier and shorter ways?!
Any help would be appreciated. Gracias!
Anyone to help?????
try the kitchen method.
Scout around in the .zip to find the package you want, copy the .apk to your ADB directory and then, with the phone plugged in:
Code:
adb install [I]path-to-package[/I].apk

To be honest you've answered your own question. What you've done is the easiest way to pull an app from a ROM. So if your issue is something else it may be an idea to re-write your question (again, I know. Sorry).
I also apologise for mis-interpreting your question the first time 'round. I hope my help in this post is better.

Your help so much appreciated mate!
Well, the last conclusion I got to is, the .apk and .obex files are actually one file but they were divided to 2 files just to make them work better, so if you take the .apk file only it wont work as it will be missing the other .obex file.
Anyway, I am also guessing there is a way to merge the 2 files back, I read a little about "de-odex" but I couldnt really get the best help I could get. I will post the solution once I get to it.
Thanks again for your help mate!

I know it's a pain, but de-odexing the whole rom might help. Unless you already did this, in which case something is wrong with your download I imagine.

[Q] help with the cab files

Hey guys!
I have a few apps im trying to install on my HTC HD2. However, every time i click on the cab setup files and try to run in my explorer window, it just launches the browser and then nothing happens...
how to i get the setup to run as normal executable files?
Thanks
Are you running them on your device?

Shouldn't I?
Is there another way of running the programs?
Any insight or suggestion?????
Yeah you should be running them on your phone. And when you click on them, they open the browser? As in web browser?

Yep. They look like zip files on your computer, but on the phone they show up as a cab. You got it!
