skype app? - Vibrant General

I am new to Android and getting my Vibrant next week. Is Skype supported in Vibrant? thanks.

Not yet, but it is supposed to be released for all Android devices this year I believe.

Sorry Skype was bought by Verizon. So that will be your only way of using it fully. If you root, there is a skype apk out there somewhere that works for Tmobile, but not 100%

Verizon does not own Skype. They own the rights to use it.

Beta on att 3g

I bought the beta version to test froyo on streak to see if it was worth getting and to compare it to the galaxy tab and I find the streak is really nice and it probably will become my permanent phone now. I've decided to buy a new unlocked version that works with tmobile but i wanted to know if the beta version can still work with att and if there was any way around it....please help or give me any advices you can because i plan to give it to my brother now since he is like in love with the big screen...thanks

AT&T beta version IMEIs are locked from AT&T and there's no ifs or buts about it.
I see so should I just sell this one

what's new?
yeah within minutes of me activating the phone yesterday evening it was pushed to my phone OTA.
I bet it's the update that takes away free tethering.

I did the update when I first received the phone on Thursday and I still have tethering. This is a built in native Android feature. Eliminating that would defeat the purpose of a Nexus device.

Yeah I saw it as well, yesterday. I went ahead and installed it. The corporate Sprint store around here opened at 11AM and I saw it when my phone was activated at 11:30, so it must have been something they knew about before the launch.
The description said it fixes minor performance issues or something to that effect.
GRJ22 is the final OTA build sent to the rest of the Nexus S devices. The NS4G phones likely all shipped with GRJ06D and are just being brought in line with the latest release.
You can find a changelog for GRJ22 in the OTA threads (mostly bugfixes and Google Talk video chat) but it likely doesn't all apply coming from GRJ06D.

Well I had to do this update on Saturday May 7th at about noon when I got my Nexus ...
This could have something to do with the whole Google and Sprint working as one needing a quick fix... example Google voice not working right and making voicemail open to you're contacts...

Nice, just released, and already more updates then the SGS series. I can't wait to get mine today or sometime this week.

Not callin' BS, sorry if it came out as if I were. Just giving my $0.02 on the update.
I was pretty surprised tethering was still in there, too, given that they charge for it for the other phones.
I didn't think they would be able to charge for tethering on a pure Google phone, until I noticed they updated the features page at Google.com/Nexus. It now says under portable wifi hotspot that it is subject to carrier fees. :/

I'm gonna check on that. In the meantime, anyone know for sure?
Sprint rep said tethering wouldn't work unless the account was already set up for the mobile hotspot $29.99/month plan. Tested to see, and you can set the phone to act as a mobile hot spot and make the connection, but it wouldn't actually give me internet access. The laptop showed the connection, but with local access only and an error about the IP address. Not surprised - it was the same way with the CDMA Hero, too.

I don't have tethering on my account and it works fine for me... I think you're doing something wrong.

Same here. Perhaps you were having connection issues while trying to tether; I've experienced that a few times on my EVO.
has anybody made a 2.3.4 stock rooted rom based on the OTA? my phone gets here tomorrow and i want to root and go to town!

t-mobile 4g 7" tab

I ran across this a few mins ago. not only is it 4g. it had honeycomb 3.2

That's the new Plus.
Does anyone know if this tmobile 7" plus is going to able to make phone calls from the start? I've been looking for this answer for a while, but couldn't find anything on it... But it does seem like the tmobile version is not going to allow it from the get-go, as there is no mentioning of this capability anywhere...
Someone more knowledgeable chime please!
well since the one I'm on now took the geniouses here at xda to make calls I'm gona go out on a limb and say no calls.

It has the capability and I haven't read anything to suggest T-Mobile will Bogart this from happening. I have the wifi 16 GB version and it's great, but it does have the looking of a phone with an ear piece that I haven't found any function for yet aside from the assumed ability of the T-Mobile version to call out. Great, great device from the original 7 Plus!

Here is the official link on T-MOBILE
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones...-phone=Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-7.0-Plus-4G-Prepaid
Im willing to bet phone is disabled. If not I will leave streak 7 for this. Or wait until xda gets it working. Ive asked tmobile and samsung, both are avoiding the question, samsung says: we can not speculate..
judging from the tmobile ad photo, there is no phone icon on home screen, where as samsung photos have it.
I guess we could always buy one from Europe where it will likely have voice calls...
have to wait and see..

does it work in europe?
Better yet we need to find a leak for that 3.2 OS!! Like a system dump.
There's already a thread here on it:

Will Nexus 4 have different versions like GN has? How we see OTAs happening?

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
As far as I can tell, there is only one version with pentaband GSM and support for T-Mobile's 42mbps HSPA+.
Also, you posted this in the wrong forum.
Hey!
Thanks for the message and sorry for using the wrong thread.
I more meant yakju and co Rom versions. It appeared that GN doesn't receive OTA updates depending on the version we have. Depending on ur version, you will get it from Google or from Samsung, and clearly not at the same pace.
I was wondering if it would harmonized to be Google only with the Nexus 4.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It should all be one version this time.
Google has gone a different route this time due to issues regarding the Galaxy Nexus release. There will be one version (for now)
Google will have 100% control of OTA updates for every Nexus 4 in the world. This time around, Google is not letting any carrier or manufacturer get in the way of their device, like what happened with the Galaxy Nexus.
Thanks for the replies.
i don't want to play the devil's advocate here but is there anything which has been communicated officially which would confirm that good news?
Thanks again.
Sent from my Xoom using xda app-developers app
I'd say you are 100% save if it is possible to buy it in the Play Store in your country. Otherwise, the situation for the Nexus 7 should be similar for what will happen with the Nexus 4. Don't know anything about that one though.
Well well... from the news I see on engadget, apparently TMobile in the US will block their subsidized phones not allowing wifi calls. To me it looks like a Tmo rom version to block this feature.
That would then confirm multiple roms for the Nexus 4.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Good thing I chanced upon this thread first. Was gonna ask the same thing. The whole yakju thing for the gnex was a pain despite the ease in converting. Nice to know that this time around, Google will keep to just one build

If you want accurate news stop reading Engadget. T-Mobile confirmed they are not including their UMA calling app. This is nothing new. No nexus devices have ever officially had it. This isn't news more like fud. They are not blocking anything on the operating system level.

T-Mobile has ZERO control over the software on the Nexus 4. None whatsoever. Google has not bothered to implement carrier-specific features like T-Mobile's wifi calling into the phone.

Do you think google wallet will work out the box for T-Mobile variant?

Just what the topic says. Or will we need to root to get it to work.

Doubt it. NFC only works on CDMA Note II, and Verizon version blocked it. Verizon wants to launch it's own system to do it. You will most likely have to get a hacked APK.

Remember GW recently updated to have a non-NFC version available to pretty much any Android phone. However, only the Nexus phones and I believe recent Sprint phones support NFC payments in store.
Some folks using different Xposed modules have been able to get it to work on their ATT or Tmobile phones, but for the non-modded community, it's generally been no.
So I wouldn't expect it to work out of the box. You'll need to use Isis most likely.

I was referring to Note II handsets.
T-Mobile has disabled the use of Google Wallet on ALL THEIR PHONES in favor of ISIS. I'm sure there will be a work around sooner or later but out the box you will not have GW access.
