I know this problem has not been resolved yet. However I read that if you boot android when the keypad lcds are off, they will stay off. That is my problem. Im unable to boot android when they are off because they stay on for the duration my screen is lit, in other words, they only turn off when my screen turns dark. To wake the device up I must press the buttons which turns them on again. How did you guys work around this?
the keypad backlight is only on for about 10 seconds...
if this isnt the case you have installed a little tool that it hangs together with the lcd backlight...
my keypad lights don't turn off at all for some weird reason..
also my orange led at the top stays on always..

are you using the latest zimage?

You should try to look in the startup folder of windows. It might have keypadledcontrol.exe which makes it "keep on" while the display is on. Just remove it from ur startup list and you are done. now the keypad will turnoff after 10 sec (by default - configurable through registry).
I hope it sorts your problem out.

When using the Universal as a USB modem, although the backlight turns off as per the the setting in "backlight"; the device stays on along with the LCD screen. Since I use the modem for hours at a time, I'm afraid the pixels would get worn out quickly.
I tried to use Window Media Player's "toggle screen" function; but it doens't work unless I'm playing media file.
Any tips/tricks to turn the LCD completely off, while leaving the modem program on?
TIA!
It may sound too simple but when you close the XDA, programs still run but the LCD goes off.
I'd go with the above suggestion, but if you do need, for some reason, to leave the screen open, press and hold the power button and the light should turn off.

When you mean "close", do you mean close the clam shell so that the screen faces the keyboard? How can one be sure the screen is off at that point? The light is off for sure... but the actual screen?
Turning it 'off' (standby mode) by pressing the power button would kill the modem connection.

But I don't just want the light to turn off -- under good lighting, one can still see the screen is still 'active'; and I'm afraid that prolonged usage would cause stuck pixels.
Thanks for the tips from both of you though.
Perhaps someone has an explanation why my backlight doesnt light up again when a button is pressed?
From time to time, the backlight goes dark and even though I am pressing buttons, screen, power button, etc, the backlight doesnt come back on. I have to search for the backlight adjuster (in the dark) in order to switch the light back on.
I have wisbar advanced and SpbPocketPlus installed - might that effect this somehow??
Thanks for any advice!
i have exactly the same problem and donĀ“t know a solution. ;-(
Wisbar Advance 2.6.0.1 is installed, SpbPocketPlus not.
I think it comes more often if i use the camera, but it is not reproduceable...
I've never had this problem before, I dont have wisbar installed.
You may be doing a press and hold function on your device. Quick press of the power turns it off, a long press turns off the backlight. the only way to turn it back on is to long press the power button.
also you have settings that turns the back light screen off, which may be affecting this.
This problem used to occur on the O2 XDA2i ALL THE TIME!
Just my 2 cents. Sorry, not very helpful, but defo a problem we've seen before. You hvae to go into settings to start the backlight back up.

It hasnt happened lately (actually ever I posted this thread strangely enough) but its quite embarrassing when you have to find your way through a dark screen.
I put a large symbol of the brightness adjuster in one corner (using SpbPocketPlus), so I only have to find that symbol rather then start --> settings --> etc..... its not a cure but it makes it easier switching it back on.
If anyone has a remedy for this problem, please share...
Not sure why this happens, but I fixed it using...

didn't help
I tried and still use the neo backlight fix. But this fix is only for forcing via startup a longer measured time for the light to stay on.
I too have suffered with the problem of the backlight not coming on every now and again after starting up the prophet. I've had this problem on numerous roms too which is interesting. What more interesting is that even in the days of my owning a Blue Angel (Orange M2000, MDA) I STILL remember having this intermittent problem with the light not always coming on. Only way I fixed it was to simply soft reset the device. Whenever I did that and when I do it now, it stops it happening for week or so at least.
I still use the neo back light fix too as my phone has the quick light turn off problem without it. Neo certainly created a good fix no mistaking.
All the best

i had the same problem...just put the same value to the standby and backlight ...( both 3 mins on mine)...and never happened again....i think it helps...
I have a strange backlight & power-off problem on my Qtek S200:
When the backlight is switched on and I press the Power button shortly to switch it to sleep mode, the screen gets blank but the backlight does not go off.
So now I wait first when the backlight timer goes off before switching the device to sleep mode manually.
Another problem:
When the power settings is set to switch the device off automatically, it reboots when the timer goes off. So my solution is to disable the auto power-off feature.
How to fix this to the original behaviour ?
I tried the neo_backlight_fix and set the backlight timeout to the same value as the standby timeout, but with no avail.
My Qtek S200 has still the original old ROM (G4 model) and Windows Mobile 5.0:
ROM version info:
IPL: 2.10.001
SPL: 2.10.001
GSM: 02.07.20
OS: 2.10.7.25
Please help me to solve the problem.
Maybe I messed up a lot and the only solution is to install a newer ROM which is available since some time at qtek.nl.
Thanks in advance.
I have a HTC Magic from Orange (PL), unmodified, without root access, Android 1.5 out-of-box. Recently, I've noticed annoying issue on my phone. If I don't press "end call" red button to turn screen off, it will be on forever - the phone is on the desk for 15 minutes, I'm not touching it, and the backlight is still on, with my Android desktop (not lock-screen) on the screen. It's look like there is no timeout to turning backlight and screen off, although this was working some time ago. I've tried to change settings like timeout value in minutes, WiFi sleep mode etc. but without success. It is so annoying that I have to remember now to press red button after using a phone. Anyone can help me?
P.S.: I don't have aFile or Dark Keys installed.
what is HD2' file of controlling Proximity sensor,Can u tell me the detail ?tks in abvance==
My English is very bad,Many do not understand
I also have problem...
Hello, I would also like to know the answer to this or if someone knows how to disable the proximity sensor
I have problem with the latest builds, currently I am using BOYPPC_SHIFTPDA Ginger.S. Almost everytime I start dialing the screen goes black and the phone locks. I can finish the call but the phone remains locked - black screen with the buttons light on.
I manage to wake it by calling myself from another phone and and sending busytone or by pluging in USB.
I managed to be able to wake the phone up with a program called Sanity. But I still cannot wake the phone during the call, for example to send DTMF tone.
This seems to be connected with the proximity sensor. When I check the status it isn't giving any values, or sometime gives some random values. I think it isn't broken because sometimes it works well.
I haven't had this problem with MIUI builds.
So probably removing the proximity sensor drivers would solve it
also have the same problem. Ending a call makes my phone keep its screen turned off... Until i find a lamp wehere i can holde the sensor under it so that it turns on the screen again.
I'd just like to have an option so that the screen doesn't turn off in a call. I mean it must be possible to deactivate the sensor...
Just press the middle button - the win flag button - and the screen goes on again.
not easy as that the phone doesn't react at all. Hardware keys lighten up but screen stays black. Looks funny when you search for a bright light source just to use your phone again after a phone call .
Hi,
I experienced today a strange behavior:
I used my nook, turn off wifi, let it in my bag for 1 or 2 hours and when i tried to wake it the screen didn't turn on.
At first i though it was SOD but when i looked closer to the screen there was something on it, it was the CM7 boot logo (the tony hawks droid
The logo was not very visible, most like old "ghost image" on CRT screen when he same image is displayed for long periods of time.
I should have taken a photo, i will if it reproduce.
Kinda sounds like it was rebooting without turning on the backlight. Could you see the arrow circling? I've had "n" turn on the backlight with no image, but tapping power turns off the backlight, then tapping it again turns the screen on properly.
Sounds like somebody's state machine has a leak...
i will never know (i pressed power 8s, if it was booting, i just stopped it)
