Synopsis: Son gave me phone to see if I can fix it. It would only boot in to the coloured screen. I’ve read this forum till I couldn’t see any more to try and fix it.
What I’ve done so far is to back up whatever was on the card, then formatted it FAT32. Downloaded RC7 zip (UK), extracted DREAIMG.mbh to card. I also put the zip file on card but renamed it to update.zip. I've done all this with a card reader.
When starting phone, it goes through the update as below.
DREAIMG.mbh – OK
RADIO_V2 – OK
BOOTLOADER – OK
RECOVERY – OK
BOOT – OK
SPLASH1 – OK
SYSTEM – OK
USERDATA – OK
Update Complete
UPDATE SUCCESS, press action key
Pressing the middle/action key takes me back to the bootloader/tricolor screen:
DREA110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.12.29
SEPT 2 2008
Serial0
When starting phone with home + power key, it goes to the triangle with the exclamation mark. Pressing alt + L, tells me E: Can’t open /cache/recovery/command. Pressing alt + S gives me:
E: No signature (1 files)
E: Verification failed
Twice it booted up to asking for simcard. Once before I formatted, and once after. There wasn’t a simcard with it and not sure if it’s needed to boot fully.
Is there other things to try, or is it too corrupted to fix?
Thanks in advance
without doing the update.zip part does the phone not boot up with RC7?
Try RC 8 or RC 9... or try flashing this (official cupcake) via recovery.

Whenever I get to the bootloader screen I can’t turn the phone of at all apart from taking the battery out. Pressing the power button will take it through the update (see my firs post) and when all done it goes back to bootloader screen. To turn phone off I have to remove battery again.
Kind regards,
remove the memory stick then from off boot your phone w/o pressing any buttons (just power) what happens?

I'm sorry to say but to my knowledge you're screwed, as far as i know. I'm far from a professional but on my check list:
-unrooted
-stock spl/radio
-no recovery
-and dream.img doesn't work
your next option is a jtag, if that doesnt work im pretty sure it's some type of hardware issue. sorry i couldnt be of more help
Many thanks for trying to help. I've no idea what jtag is but will try and google it.
Kind regards,
After an exhaustive searches the last 24 hrs, it seems that unless one can get the phone recognized by your PC, or can boot it past the boot loader, there appears to be no chance for it to be resurrected.
Unless anyone knows better.
Kind Regards to all,

Many thanks for the link but it's way over my old head.
Kind regards,
this may sound a little simple and forgive me if its stupid, but are you sure your camera button isnt stuck down?
There is hope!
I had exactly the same problem and cured it by downloading the US image (RC29 I think) rather than the UK one. Put the dreamimg.nbh in the root of your SD card then boot up the G1 whilst pressing the camera button.
Even though my phone is from the UK (I am in Ireland) this worked a treat and gave me a working (abeit back to basics) phone. From there I rooted it again then went through to my chosen ROM.
Hope this works - let me know.

Many thank for your replies. Sorry for late post but was away. The camera button seems to work, at least it gives a definite click. I now handed phone back to my son but will see him tonight and relay the messages. Will post if I can get it to work.

I found a site with someone who bricked their phone but found a loop hole. I have never bricked my phone and hoping i never will but for those who have bricked their phone here are some steps to try to unbrick it! HOPE IT HELPS! SEND FEED BACK!!
So you can’t access bootloader or recovery and the only thing that works is the blue led trick when pressing trackball + power button??
Try the procedure below.
Step 1: Turned Phone off by taking out the battery.
Step 2: Prepared SD card
Put SD card in card reader and formatted it as FAT32, copied the DREAIMG.nbh onto it.
Or try Sapphimg.nbh
Step 3: Put SD card back in phone
Step 4: Hold Vol down + Power + track ball together and put battery to start phone
Step 5: Run update
IF THAT DIDNT WORK!
TRY THIS!
Step 1: Turning Off Your Phone
Because you have a bricked phone, you can't just hold the power button. So if your phone is not already off then you're going to want to take out the battery.
Step 2: Preparing Our SD card
Take out your SD card and put it into an SD card reader or some type of other adapter so that we can view it from our computer. If you cannot view the SD card on your computer then you're going to need a new SD card.
Download DREAIMG-RC29.zip and unzip the file.
Reformat the SD card to FAT32 and copy the DREAIMG.nbh onto it.
Safely eject the SD card.
Put the SD card into your device.
Step 3: Wipe The Phone
Hold home and press the power button.
When you see the image of an ! mark, open your keyboard and press Alt + L if you cannot see any command options.
Do a factory reset by pressing Alt + W or just using the trackball.
When the reset is done, go ahead and hold the camera button and select the reboot system now option with your trackball.
Step 4: Flashing The Phone
Once the grey screen pops up (or the white screen if your phone was rooted with JesusFreke) it will ask you to hit a button to start installing the image…press that button. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO STOP THIS PROCCESS. It will take about 8-12 minutes.
When the image has completed the installation (it will say completed), go ahead and press the green, red, and menu buttons at the same time. The phone will reboot.
And your done! Your phone is now unbricked!.
The G1 screen will hang there for a good minute or two, but be paticiant, it will boot. Now you have a choice. Try to hack your phone again, because you're in the correct state to have another go, or, you can stick with the official Android. Now if you choose to stick with the official Android, here's what you do.
Step 1: Upgrading to Android 1.0 RC33
Download the file signed-PLAT-RC33-from-RC30.zip
Rename the file to update.zip and copy it to your SD card
Reboot your phone into recovery mode. Power off the phone first and then hold down the Home key while powering it back on.
The recovery mode is finished loading when you see the ! mark inside the triangle. Press Alt + L to display the list of options.
Press Alt + S to flash the file update.zip.
Wait for the update to apply. Your phone may reboot during this process so be patient.
Press Home + Back if prompted to reboot your phone.
Step 2: Upgrading to Android 1.5 CRB43
Download the file signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.
Step 3: Upgrade to Android 1.5 CRC1
Download the file signed-kila-CRC1-from-CRB43-FIX.7ca4a1d7.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.
Step 4: Upgrade to Android 1.6 DRC83
Download the file signed-kila-DRC83-from-CRC1.c41b93c1.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.

run fastboot boot recovery-image.img or whatever you named your recovery image. It'll display "waiting for device..." message just keep pluging it in, unplugging, popping the battery and eventually your device will respond and boot into recovery.
Someone bricked and i did it... twice trying to flash the eng 2010 SPL. It worked the third time and my device is up and running again with an engineering SPL.
if your device is stuck on the first splash but displays in red "Fastboot USB" message in the upper left corner of the screen, DO NOT power it down. run the above mentioned command and reflash.

fastboot boot recovery?
boot.img and recovery.img are two totally different things.
The recovery (amon_ra is preferred)
The boot.img is where the kernel, ramdisk, etc resides.
you must've meant fastboot flash boot boot.img
or
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
but not both.

bricked Mytouch3g
Bricked mytouch3g -- brandnew phone. Just tried to flash cyanogen test3 and everything went fine but then I rebooted and all I have is vodafone boot screen, nothing else works but the blue led which will not load any img. adp doesn't work it never detects a phone no matter what you do. It was the first flash too. Crazy how HTC didn't make a built in hard reset like you have on windows mobile phones. You wonder if they want people to crash there phones so they have to replace them ect etc.
Hello.
My phone has the same problem.
Anything that is needed done. But no no avail.

I have a rooted Rogers magic and dont know what happend...but its stuck in a boot loop. All it gets to is the "HTC MAGIC" screen and then the out of box image shows up and then it restarts and does this again and again.
I cant enter recovery or fastboot. ive tried the diff key combinations to boot but nothin works.
ANy help!!???
If you can't get into a recovery, or fastboot from my understandings you now have a very expensive paper weight.
Mine did the same, randomly or because i pressed some combination the phone booted again. Sometimes pressing backspace i enter the menu, pressing home+power... nothing.
One or two times pressing home+power enters the menu and then reboots by itself.
Any ideas?
It's happened to me once.
Does anything come up with your computer?
Can you access adb?
Try removing the battery then hold down the menu button.
While still holding menu put the battery back in.
The phone should start up. Keep holding the menu button until you are blue in the face (or for about 30 seconds or so) or until the phone boots.
If that doesn't work try the back button instead of the menu button like above.
If THAT doesn't work... then find a stack of papers and place them in front of a fan. Place your phone onto the stack of papers and let it sit...
Or try calling your provider because you might still be under warranty.
ok guys it on now.
Its working but for some reason it wont read my sd card :S
turns out my bro flashed a recovery he shouldnt hav so it kept rebootin evenwhen i tried entering recovery. i erased it thinkin that ill flash a new recovery...but it wont recognize my sd card. ive tried 3 diff cards...but nothin works.
even in the rom, i get the notification: "SD Card has been removed. Insert a new SD card to increase your device storage."
i cant get the card to work HELP??
........how do i even flash anything without the card?
You can flash through fastboot

It you have bootloop - remove battery you turn phone off. Wait a few minutes and place battery back.
Then try flash turn phone on by pressing and holding Back + Power (fastboot-mode)
Write first five rows here (all symbols are important).
It you will have problems, try to load phone into other modes:
Home + Power - recovery-mode
VolumeDown + Power - hboot-mode

Too bad
It seems like phone flashed by faulty hboot or radio (uncompleted download or something else)
Try disconnect phone from pc or adapter and remove battery for 10-15 minutes
May be it cancels this process.
To restore phone you need to run hboot-mode or fastboot-mode - if you don't then only JTAG can help
I previously thought I had rooted and tried out a some custom ROMs. Decided to revert to a nandroid backup of stock I made before flashing but got errors and the phone hangs on 1st mytouch logo. S is off according to hboot screen, and I am able to get into fastboot and recovery (with CWM 2.5.1.2). I've tried using my nandroid backup and its gives an error: "E:format_root_device: can't find mmc partition "boot"". I've successfully rolled back from a custom ROM to stock before, So I'm not sure what happened. I have also tried having hboot flash PDIMG15 but when it begins it skips a bunch of folders, it gives me an error about E: , it says "FAILED (remote: not allowed)". Does that mean s is on somehow or root is screwed up? At this point I'm afriad I will have to go back to t-mob and buy a new phone . Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Did you go from cm6 to cm7?
Try flashing a cm6 rom, you cant use clockwork 2.5.12 for cm7 roms and you cant use cw3+ for cm6 roms.
Flash cm6 from recovery then update clockrom in rom manager. The boot in recovery and flash cm7

PDIMG15 should be foolproof.
Have you checked the file or your sd card for errors?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I agree that PDIMG should be foolproof. It may be your SD card. Try re-flashing recovery through fastboot, then reformatting your SD card. Then copy the PDIMG again with nothing else on the card and give that a shot. You could also try flashing CWM 3 and see if you can flash a 2.3 ROM.
phone replaced
I tried the sd card format method with a quick format and a normal and still no success. Maybe a bad sdcard. Either way walked into t-mob and naively said my phone doesn't work, got it replaced. (Only had it for 9 days) Since it was still within 14 they swapped it no questions asked really. Thanks for the help either way. I may just have to stick with stock sense for a while and just be content with launcher pro. I've been reading that the front facing camera doesn't work on a lot of custom roms anyway and my wife and I both got MT4gs so I like the video call feature enough to stick with it.
I too had the same problem, what I did was to use the Nandroid backup located here in the MT4G forums. I have that on my sd card and when all failsI revert back thru that nandroid backup. Try that and let me know how it goes.

sorry did not read that you had returned it.

If her phone is not rooted and you arent trying to flash custom ROMs then it doesnt sound like s=off is going to help you.
Ive seen this happen as a hardware problem (probably from dropping the phone to much) and also software, somehow the boot file gets corrupt
If you cant get her phone to get passed the first tmobile boot screen i would suggest you try to reset the phone.
1. Turn the MyTouch 4G off. pull the battery and replace it.
2. Press and hold the Volume Down button.
3. Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds (while holding the volume down button) then release the power. Continue to hold Volume Down.
4. When you see the Android logo appear, you may then release Volume Down.
5. Now use the Volume Up/Down buttons to highlight Factory reset.
6. Press the Power button to select.
She will lose all data stored on the phone (not the sd card, just the phone) however if the phone isnt turning on that data isnt much good anyways...

What do you mean by "wont go anywhere"? When you hold down volume and power you should get a screen with three androids on skateboards on the bottom of the screen. Near the middle of the screen there should be some options
Fastboot
Recovery
Factory Reset
Simlock
System Info
Image CRC
You should be able to use your volume buttons on the side of the phone to scroll up and down through that list. when you have the option you want highlighted (in this case factory reset) you can selected it by pressing the power button.
are you able to do that, or are you stuck somewhere else?

what is the problem you are seeing? When you turn your phone on does it go right to hboot? does it boot up? does it freeze up at the first splash screen? does it freeze at boot animation? does it get to the boot animation then reboot?
When the power button is hit it goes right into hboot no options to let me go to home screen. I can access fastboot and hboot but i cannot get past these two at all i know the phone is not rooted. the volume keys are acting up a little bit and not letting me get anywhere. If you can help please PM me it would be greatly appreciated
Your volume keys are stuck (physically or electrically), specifically VolumeDown key, and that's the reason for the misbehavior. In any case, it's almost certainly a HW problem.
Thats what i've been thinking as well and tried seeing whats going on and it doesnt seem that there stuck have to pull some stuff apart in any case do you know how to fix this though and get it to boot?
If you don't have warranty - open the phone and fix/disconnect the volume buttons.
If you have warranty - send it for repairs.
It won't boot when VolDown is pressed, whatever you do.
OK... SO, i've searched a bit and it seems im a bit lost. These windows phones are A LOT different from our Droid phones (my primary is a happily rooted Sensation running InsertCoin... and has been for, well.. since I got it )
Anyway, I've inherited a windows phone (an HD2) that apparently someone installed ICS on the NAND...
Heres my question... Is there an easy to follow noob guide out there anywhere that someone can point me to to revert this to a standard Windows Phone? I dont care which version, from there I can probably babystep up to whatever you guys call a bleeding edge rom
Or can someone point me to a few links that I might be able to use to peice everything together?
Or hell, walk me through it even?

OK... Made a little progress, stuck again...
Pulled the battery, held power until aMAGLDR v1.13 pops up...
Now it flashes between 2 screens:
Screen 1:
ANDROID LOAD at 1800000
from MicroSD
Load zImage
K: /zImage
SD Kernel open failed
Screen 2 (Some menu screen, pops on for half a second then flips back to the first):
Boot Menu:
1: Boot WPH
2: Bood AD SD
3: Boot AD NAND
4: USB MassStg
and a bunch of other options...
I have a blank SD card in it... well, it has some android folders created by the OS... Is there something special I need to do with the SD?

ACTUALLY... It was a hardware issue.
Theres a lose wire or flex cable in it somewhere... you have to apply a little torque to the body to keep it from selecting options...
SO... short story long, I now have a functioning W7.5 phone... all I have to do now is figure out the bad connection and fix it.
on to youtube for a disassembly video
Hello!
So the problem started today, when my phone got shutted down ( because battery was 4%.. ) and when i was able to charge it, this sh#t started.
So, some things first:
- I'm not able to get to the place ( phone off -> volume down and turn phone on ) where i could flash wp6.5 or do task29
- I couldn't enter into rom because it froze to the part where HTC is green with black background
- Rom worked with safe mode
- USB flasher doesn't work in malgdr
- Buttons are messy ( but i have now figured how they work )
- I*M NOT ABLE TO HARD RESET, when it says " press volume up to reset ", it does nothing. I have to take off the battery to get off there.
+ I'm able to go to AD recovery, and do anything there
+ I'm able to use USB MassStg
So what can I do? Or what should i do? This is really sad to me. I've flashed roms since March with great succes, but now I face a problem like this in normal use. So i'm pretty confused.
I'm able to take some video if you need it.
Not sure did i make it to the right section, but i hope i made.
Hey u said that your buttons are messy and you figured out how they work. can you tell me i they started working. coz my hd2 is stuck on htc logo screen and not going to bootloader after pressing the power and volume down key . ithink their some malfuncaning in volume down key......... plz reply fast

I am going to try to explain this a little and maybe it will help you out.

What you are talking about is called bootloader and this is probably caused by a faulty volume down button. Unless you check the hardware for the volume down button and fix it if it is faulty there is no other fix for this issue unless you are using Windows Mobile then you can use the enterbootloader.exe.

It froze on what is called the splash screen and this is not all in all just a major issue and can more than likely be fixed.

Safe mode on a device is the same as safe mode on a computer, it will allow you to boot the device and hopefully find the problem or fix the problem.

This is probably a driver issue and is only needed to flash a Android recovery or to flash a Windows Phone ROM.

I would like some more info on this actually as far as what buttons you are talking about. It also plays into what I said about a faulty volume down button.

This is because you have MAGLDR installed, there is no software for the device to reset.

This is good because I think recovery just may be what you need to use to fix your issue.

This is also good because you can transfer any needed files to your SD card using this.

I assume you are using a Android ROM because you said you can still use AD recovery. I suggest you read the first couple of post in the thread for the ROM you are using to find the suggested partition size you need as you may not have the right partition size if that is the case you will need to re partition your device but without being able to use USB flasher you will not be able to flash a new recovery with your new partition size. But you you should be able to edit a recovery and use it with AD sd, look in my guide linked in my sig for more infor on using recovery from SD card.
Also you can try to do a wipe of your cache and delvik cache and see if that helps. You can also try to make a backup of your ROM and re flash the Android ROM to see if that helps.
But to be honest with you your situation is odd because it did not happen right after you flashed a ROM. This sorta leads me to beleive you may have hardware issues.
LOL, when i started the phone today, the buttons worked normally. In Malgdr & AD recovery.
Of course, i tried to go to bootloader and I did. After that I flashed WM6.5 succesfully.
I'm going to upload a video about this all today or tomorrow. Rendering the video just now.
Edit: Installed this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912740
Still, back and "windows" button are bugging. Sometimes when i press them, they change the volume and the real volume buttons do the same.
Edit 2: You can watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDMZQRzcZmM

I watched the video and I gotta say I think you have hardware issues. I would recommend you find someone to take a lookk at you volume buttons and the hardware buttons to see about fixing them. Both sets of buttons are replaceable.
I'll try to take care of that.
Thank you really much !
