How to push files from....

my phone is looping because i intalled a theme and it had an error on the update. i was wondering is there a way to get the file that i downloaded which was JF from my desktop to my G1?
ADB is working when my phone is looping.

hey man,same thing happened to me once.Your best bet is to get the sd out and put it on their from a reader or something like dat.I took my sd out and stuck it in my girlfriends's g1 and dragged it on there like dat.hope that helps

Boot into recovery mode
Open cmd prompt, type
adb shell
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
EDIT: Sorry forgot to mention this will mount your sdcard in windows through recovery mode.

where do you have to put the file i have mines on my desktop do you have to put it in tools...Also do you have to mount it?
Never mind i got it you have to put the folder in sdk/tools..

A little help plz, how bout trying to push files to system\app? I'm trying to push HTC_IME.apk to system\app so I can use the new skin for it via Metamorph, But It says read only files... I already did remount but still didnt work... Anything I'm missing here?

Replacing HTC apps with ANDROID ones

Hi,
After reading this thread and learning that you CAN replace HTC's apps with stock Android ones, I have started messing around to see what other apps I can / should change. I'll use this thread as kind of a log, so if I mess things up I can come back and see where I went wrong. Fellow noobs can surely use it too!
I am using SDK in Ubuntu, but the procedure should be pretty similar in Windows.
First, follow the Unlockr's method to root your phone.
Download a stock Android rom and extract its /system/apps folder inside /sdk/tools. I named the folder "Apps-stock
Check if Ubuntu recognises your phone:

./fastboot devices
Load the recovery image and mount the system:

./fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img
./adb shell mount /system
Replacing HTC's calendar:
Code:
./adb shell rm /system/app/Calendar.apk
./adb shell rm /system/app/Calendar.odex
./adb push Apps-stock/Calendar.apk /system/app/

Firstly, you should probably say in the first post that everyone should do a Nandroid backup first - it's saved my bacon. Might be an idea to link to the files, too?
Second, I've got a problem trying to run this method. I removed the original calendar.apk and .odex without any problems, and copied the new one over, but on rebooting, it wasn't in the list of applications anywhere. I browsed there in Astro and opened the file, which gave me an option to install it - which then gave an error of "Calendar could not be installed on this device".
I'm running the MoDaCo 2.1 custom ROM and using the calendar.apk from this thread.

can you tell me where this fastboot command is located? I am using Ubuntu too, but can not find fastboot. What is it for by the way?

fastboot and adb are executables you get from the Android SDK - see here.
This thread does require your phone to be rooted, though, which would require you to have already used adb at least once....

how about simply replacing those files using a file explorer (like linda)? possible, or would that screw up my system?

problems installing anything

I try to install apk packages like godzson dialer and clear_keyboard and i get errors.
I used apps installer and android dev
apps installer tells me It cannot install the app
android dev I run
adb install C:\clear_keyboard\system\app\HTC_IME.apk
I get
failure [install_parse_failed_unexpected_exception]
I searched for hours finding solutions that say i need to push the files to /system/apps and doing that there is permissions involved and I cant seem to touch anything in /system.
When I run chmod 777 /system i get an error saying unable to change read only file system.
I thought all of this was going to be simple tasks but it's getting really annoying any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for everything.

if yr installing through and use
Make sure phone is synced
Make sure app is in tool file I'd adk file
Make sure when at command prompt Ur in adk/tools file first
Adb remount
Adb push (app.apk) /system/(app/framework)

ok I figured out my problem but fixing it is going to be quite confusing. Looks like I would have to know a lot more than I do to fix it. Basically the adb is not reading the phone as root (or something like that). And the ro.secure is set to 1 which it should be set to 0 to be considerd root. So therefore I have to reinstall a bootimg. Ive been reading it on another forum page but i cant post it cause my account hasn't been verified yet. but it's this forum and here is the thread showthread.php?t=443041&page=2

First, put your apk's in your "C:\AndroidSDK\Tools\" Folder
Second open the cmd window and do "cd C:\AndroidSDK\Tools\"
Third do "adb remount"
Fourth "adb push xxxx.apk /system/app/"
that will install them

When remounting I get error
Code:
remount failed: Operation not permitted
but I continue anyway and the

adb push HTC_IME.apk /system/app
sends the file with no problem but it doesn't install it though.

Here are steps to do if it is not already installed on your phone. However, if it is you can not install when it is already there. I'm not sure how to remove in terminal and everything I've tried it tells me read only blah, blah, blah...
I tried mount -o remount,rw /system---that is suppose to work.
1.Make sure anything you want installed is in
the root of the sdcard..(/sdcard/nameoffile.apk)
2. Download a terminal emulator from the market.
If it installs continue..If not then continue on back to the thread.
3. Open up the terminal emulator. It should ask permission from SU. >Always allow
4. Now type the following
su (hit enter)
install /sdcard/name_of_file.apk /system/app/name_of_file.apk----if it is a system app
If it is a downloaded app then use /data/app

Ok.... well I tried that way also and I get the error

I downloaded the terminal app from the market and entered the commands as you said for ex.

Cannot get ADB shell working

Hi guys, so I've done tons of searching & I still can't seem to get this work.. I'm running CM7 #21 & I'm trying to install adfree using the tutorial here.. For some reason I just can't seem to get ADB shell commands working.. I can put my phone into recovery via ADB, no problem, but that's about it.. When I try running recovery-windows.bat I get "directory not found" errors, from what I can see it's looking for a "files" folder, which I don't have, & I've downloaded the SDK 3 times! Initially I didn't even have a recovery-windows.bat file, I found it somewhere & modified it.. Anyway, I've attached pics of the steps I've done, could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or guide me in the right direction...? thanks in advance...

Using fakeflash will get you to recovery more easily. Look in the roll up sticky for that Once in recovery the adb push syntax is thus:
adb push [file on PC] [location on phone]
For pushing a directory, c:\foo to the phone's data partition you'll want this:
adb push C:\foo /data/
Or you could use wildcards:
adb push C:\foo\* /data/foo/
The latter option is probably easier

Thanks for the help & welcome! What I didn't realize all this time was that I had to reboot in ClockworkMod recovery & not normal recovery, but by you directing me to the fakeflash post I figured it out.. Btw, the download link at modaco.com for the update.zip file is dead...

I get the error thing...and I can't find the effing map where I need to remove stuff....

where do I find the god damned map to remove the files I need to remove when it only fails to install?????
I've checked every single map on the memory card, going nuts here...

I have put the .apk in my download map on the sd card of the phone, installed the apk and run it and I get the: "could not extract assets" error execute
and then when I get that I am supposed to remove some files from a map on the sd card, and I cannot find said map....I hava rebooted the phone, and I still cannot find data/local/tmp or what ever map I need to find.....

you need to execute the commands in the origional post via ADB with USB debugging enabled, because the location is in the system and ironicly you dont have the root privelages to delete them

I don't even know what ADB is....that's how much I know...

I have attached it to this post. ADB is the Android Debug Bridge. It is used to excecute commands on android devices. Just extract the zip, then open a command prompt and change to the directory of ADB, then excecute the commands.

if you get the error for esset you need to remove all the files inside to /data/local/tmp/
press: adb shell
press ls /data/local/tmp
and remove one by one the files as my example:
$ ls /data/local/tmp/
ls /data/local/tmp/
Superuser.apk
Gingerbreak
runscript
sysrun
$ rm /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk
rm /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk
$ rm /data/local/tmp/Gingerbreak
rm /data/local/tmp/Gingerbreak
$ rm /data/local/tmp/runscript
rm /data/local/tmp/runscript
$ rm /data/local/tmp/sysrun
rm /data/local/tmp/sysrun
and now try again with app and may it works (in my case, works)

maybe I should've mentioned I'm on a Mac computer with no access to windows....damn, this is so frustrating....

Ah... Its still possible you just have to get the android sdk for mac.
Get the SDK from here
Then in the tools folder ADB should be there
Then its commands as normal I think... not sure tho, don't have a mac.
Search around on here for tutorials, I'm sure someone has put up a tutorial on setting up adb on mac

kewl, and the exact commands is in post #1 right?

so this root's the OS, title is confusing, does it enable fastboot? allow you to flash custom roms?
