Yea, update is already available for download

I rooted and then applied the update and did not lose my root. So it doesn't matter how you do it.

Very cool thanks for the heads up.
Anyone tried this? Just curious im already rooted just maily would like it to unroot.
sent from LG Dare lol
It worked great for me, I rooted with it, tried a few root only apps...then I unrooted with it to see if it works, and it worked...then I rooted again so I can use those root only apps.
worked for me. painless, and quick. total time....less than 5 minutes.

Really Works? The Rooted Apps too?
Does this really work and do the rooted apps function? Why does this work and the bootloader has not been cracked? Cunfused....
And now there's this too.
I cant seem to get this to work. I downloaded the file, went and clicked root me and it just sits there. How long does it normally take
If that's all you did, then you need to reread the instructions. I'm sure it clearly states to toggle Bluetooth or wifi. I don't want to burn anyone but in my opinion, if you can't follow instructions maybe you shouldn't be rooting your phone.

will we still be able to use the one click method to root our phones after we have installed OTA update Froyo 2.2 from verizon in September. I have not rooted my X yet because the only thing i need it for is wifi tether and adblocker, i dont really need the custom ROMs. will i still be able to do this once my phone has received the update, if not will they develop a root for phones that have been updated via OTA
sorry for being such a noob thanks for your help

You cannot currently root a 2.2 device (unless you upgraded with that update.zip to 2.2 and moved SU), but I m sure that it will come sooner rather than later
universal androot
Im using universal androot and have my phone rooted, which i believe is the same thing as 1click root will i still get the ota in September with root on, I hope i have not posted in a inappropriate place I just was curious.
Bro, were did you get this universal androot?

I tried universal androot v1.6.1 and it was a no go, seemed soon after installing toolkit it kicked me out. I did the update.zip so i'm up to 2.2 now. Gonna try the droidx root in the first post see if that does it.

theres no way to root a 2.2 device yet, u have to root in 2.1 first then move su around and then move it again once upgraded to 2.2

this is incorrect. you can root your 2.2 Droid X with this method: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/26/droid2-rooting-method-works-for-droidx-running-froyo/
worked like a charm on first go for me.
My speaker on the back of my droidx is blown i need to take it to verizon. How do i get rid of superuser permissions app in app drawer? I rooted with universal androot. I was told you have to remove it first then unroot. So i looked for it in app manager to delete it but its not there. I tried unrooting it still not there. Rooted it back still not there. Thanks for ur help.

Traded the DINC in for the DX and rooted in 2 minutes!!!!!! Kinda miss the DINC, well I miss HTC Sence
does this one click root work for the 2.2? and is there a chance that the fone will not root correctly and not work?

Froyo update from htc

The update is now ready. Downloading now!!
Yep! Its official.
me too me too i'm installing it!
its prolly the same as the manual update
It has a different build number.
My wifes phone that isn't rooted picked up the update but my rooted phone won't. Did they find a way to keep rooted users from getting the update?
If you're rooted, or want to root in the future, DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE.
When people say it removes root, that is an understatement. It also PREVENTS ROOT in the future!
Until someone hacks the release to re-allow root, you won't be able to root it ever. That is of course, assuming that it can even be done.
So unless you never want to root, avoid it.
If you installed the "pre-release" version don't install this either, I believe HTC is working on a fix for those who applied the update from last Friday.
Just wanted to say I have the manual update, tried to reset with RUU, and it failed, rebooting it back to my home screen...........****

If you want to stay rooted than do not install the ota! There hasn't been any method found to root the official version yet

What? No.
Op, it will just try to install, and then fail. Then you're all set. Nothing bad will happen
Thanks Jmoney47,hanone I was getting worried for a second there
Even if you did get it, you can still get back to froyo, but you don't have to worry

How to keep root after an OTA update

If you would like to OTA your phone to 2.3.3 etc, then download an app called "OTA RootKeeper" from the Android Market.
This app backups your root files, and then after the OTA you can recover the files and your phone will be rooted. Worked fine on my Xperia Play r800x and my bro's Droid X. Let me know if it worked or not.
PS!! Not sure if the app is available for download in Europe, but it definitely is North America.
Edit: On some OTA's it keeps root but on some it doesn't, this app just a guarantee that it will keep root, and plus I'm just trying to help
But we really have kept root by doing OTA and not PC Companion update since the time of Gingerbreak without even using a 3rd-party app.. Why?

I dont understand because when i ota i automaticly have root.
that's exactly my point..
Everybody with a play retain root when updating OTA. That's why so many is awaiting the OTA whenever there's an update
Regards Dousan...
Yea you won't really need to back up with third party app if your are ota updating. It keeps everything the way it is...

On some updates it does and some it doesn't, because my bro use to have a Xperia Play, he had 2.3.2 root, then he update to 2.3.3 and the root was gone, but this app is a guarantee that you will keep root, you kno y take the risk of losing it
Wierd becuase when i had root 2.3.2 and ota updated to 2.3.3 i had root still
And plus I've read some topics that are about OTA and root, just browse the Q&A and look for some related to both

Will do, thanks for the info
Im kinda confused. . I unlocked my bootloader and used an update.zip to install super user. apk. Im rooted 2.3.2 , Can I use verizons ota upate to 2.3.3 because I thought that would mess up my phone. Is it safe to ota?

No it's not safe to update with an unlocked bootloader, it'll brick your phone.
Either lock the bootloader (don't know how on a R800x) and then update OTA or find a ftf file of that new update from verizon and flash it with flashtool and then root as you did on 2.3.2. Make a backup of you apps/data prior to flashing.

This is what i did, if you have any uninstalled system apps then you have to flash the verizon ftf, but dont wipe the data, then you lock the bootloader, download the OTA rootkeeper app, back up your root, then just OTA to 2.3.3, and finallly just restore root via the ota rootkeeper app.
so far i am satisfied with the verizon 2.3.3 update, it took out some really annoying things about 2.3.2, so definitely OTA
hmm, maybe I will try this later, I wasnt sure if it even would make a big difference.

You can do an OTA update any time you want, you just have to have a stock version running on your phone. When you do an OTA update it checks and verifies your phone to see if everything is there that needs to be there. If you're running a non stock ROM, it'll fail. If you're running a Fruitcake, it'll fail. If you want to OTA, which...there are other ways to upgrade, but...if you WANT to OTA, flash the Froyo .sbf to get back to stock. Since you're on Froyo. Or you can flash the Gingerbread .sbf to upgrade that way, or...do it online at the website.

No guarentee you will be able to root again after each ota, its just a general RULE of all custom firmware, once you root/jailbreak/whatever your device, you no longer get updates from official sources, you get them from custom sources same as you got root. Of course you CAN do whatever you want but that doesnt mean you arent gonna f*** something up. For example: the first three updates for the Atrix you would have been f***ed accepting the ota beofre running "retain root" software. Just fyi, you may have only lost root accepting the ota (this time), but you still did it wrong. Read and learn. Follow the rule for all devices, or you WILL without a doubt eventually cause yourself more trouble than if you just did it the right way the first time! And the right way, again, is: Once you root you dont accept ota updates, you get your updates here at XDA.
