I don't know if this has been posted here yet. Up until now, the only way I thought we could mount the SGS' built in storage and SD card to a Mac was to enable "debug mode" and then choose to Mount the drives.
The better way:
Go to Menu>Settings>About phone>USB settings>Ask on connection or Mass Storage
Next time you hook it up to your Mac just choose "Mass Storage" then mount the drives.
Hi, doesn't seem to work with me, when I use mass storage there is no auto-mount and there is no new drive to mount into disk utility, I run OSX Snow Leopard
Same here, never worked for me either, and it's annoying that I have to enable-disable debug mode when I switch between Windows and OS X.

Hey Everyone,
I apologise if this is in the wrong forum (not sure if it should be in Android Development), and before I start I want to make it clear that I DID use the search function, I searched for "Can't Enable USB Mass Storage" and "No option to mount SD Card" with no relevant results.
Rom: JFv1.51 CRB43-EU
Ok, I was using my phone fine I managed to sync around 12GB worth of music and transfer a few files last night (I flashed the ROM around 20:00 GMT after trying out several hero builds).
This morning I mounted the SD Card to my laptop (OS is Windows 7 RC1) and transferred a few APK's. Suddenly as I was in the market the phone comes up with "Checking SD Card for Errors" and had for some reason unmounted itself from the PC.
Now when I plug in the USB cable all I get is the light to indicate it's charging. There's no option to mount the SD Card. I've tried it on my Laptop, My Vista Desktop AND My Xbox 360 (usually there's a mount option when you connect to that which allows the xbox to see music on the phone).
Strangest thing is the MicroSD Card seems fine, I am able to play my music and see the 2 pictures I have stored on it. Another site suggested using Anycut to make a shortcut to SD CArd and then ticking Enable USB Mass Storage. This doesn't work either, I get a ! in a triangle in the status bar saying USB Mass Storage Enabled but neither my laptop or my desktop will pick it up.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks,
Steve.

Yep, Should it be?
Yes it should be. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers (USB mass storage devices)
Edit: Double pOst
I have a rooted Atrix 4G and I am having a very weird problem with it.
If I go into Settings->SD Card & Phone Storage while no USB is connected it shows the following:
Code:
[B][SIZE="2"]Internal Phone Storage (media area)[/SIZE][/B]
[B]Total Space[/B] - 10.71GB
[B]Available Space[/B] - 10.60GB
[B]Unmount Internal Phone Storage[/B] (selectable option)
[B]Format Internal Phone Storage[/B] (grayed out/unselectable)
Makes sense... all is good right? Until I plug in USB (debugging mode selected, USB mass storage for connection type). The Notification bar shows:
Code:
[B][SIZE="4"]Ongoing[/SIZE]
USB debugging connected[/B]
Select to disable USB debugging
[B]USB connection[/B]
Select to manage your USB connection
[B][SIZE="4"]Notifications[/SIZE]
Internal phone storage is unmounted[/B]
Internal phone storage is unmounted
Going into Settings->SD Card & Phone Storage now shows:
Code:
Internal Phone Storage (media area)
Total Space - Unavailable
Available Space - Unavailable
Unmount Internal Phone Storage (grayed out/unselectable)
Format Internal Phone Storage (grayed out/unselectable)
What is going on, and how can I get it to mount the internal storage while connected with USB debugging?
Instead of "USB Mass Storage", "Motorola Phone Portal", or "Windows Media Sync" choose "None".
Internal Phone Storage is Unmounted - Motorola Atrix
Having the same problem. Seems like when you power off and reboot the phone, while still connected through the USB port, the problem goes away, but I am not really sure. Help would be appreciated.
I got the same message but it wasn't connected via usb yet i've tried to mount the internal thru recovery settings but it keeps going back yo being unmounted

Do what he said!
Pull down notification bar > select USB connection > Select None
hello i to had this problem but after messing around with different settings i tried to start from the begining so that didnt work and then i wiped everything and i do mean everything if it could be wiped i wiped it clean and installed my download rom i had gotten and still didnt work but i wiped it again and did this 3 times in a row and installed my rom again and it worked so try wiping everything and about 3 times and install a custom rom and see if that works
FIS
The best way to fix it is too... first all the apps from the internal storage... the once that you cannot uninstall move the app and then uninstall and use the format option.. it will def. do it... i had the same problem but in the end it worked.
Is it possible to mount it as an external storage just as an android phone does? On Windows you have to install the driver and it shows up. On my Mac it doesn't and just charges. Also can I mount the sdcard along with internal storage?
Also is there a way to mount my x10 as storage on the Transformer? When I plug into the USB port on the dock, I press mount on my phone but it does nothing while regular USB flash drives work just fine.
For Mac just download this http://www.android.com/filetransfer/. Works perfectly, allowing you to access your storage.

Awesome, thank you
With all other Android phones I have, when I plug in the USB I have the option to mount as a storage device. Here I can organize media, move downloaded zip to the root of the SD, clear out unneeded files. It seems with the Nexus 4 I can no longer do that; mount it as a drive.
When I attach the USB cable I can either connect "media device" or "camera". When I select a camera, it mounts just the DCIM folder. This allowed me to transfer all of my pics and vids to the device. When I select "media device" I don't see any change. I don't see a mounted drive/folder to organize/transfer music.
Is there a way to use the SD as a mounted drive and bypass the limited options of "media device" or "camera". If not what is the best way to manage files on your phone via your PC?
I am running Parandroid 3.94 and my PC is a Win7 64.

On the Nexus 4 the internal storage is mounted as an MTB device rather than a USB drive. Make sure you have the latest Nexus 4 driver installed (use a toolkit or the SDK to install the driver) then follow yacbos' instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232471&page=2 to let Windows view the MTB storage.
Worked like a charm. Thanks.
Has anyone figured out how to enable USB mass storage mode?
I can pull files using "adb pull" however it grabs everything each time.
I have a Mac and I'd like to mount the phone as a volume and use rsync. I did this in the past and it worked great.
thanks.
