How hot does your vibrant get? - Vibrant General

Using on 3g itll get to like 99 degrees... Charging and using like 110....
doesn't feel hot but yet that's what the reader says.... Is that too hot? Hell just playing heavy gunner for 10 mins it gets up to 100......

Anyone? Does it seem like thats too hot?
Should I switch it out?

Most electronics are built to withstand more heat than 110... my phone works fine when the temperature is sitting at 110 outside.

I mean internally... Using a temp app Like Battery Indicator? Just browing the web after 15 minutes my temp was up to 105 degrees. Charging ive gotten it to like 111 degrees...
All I need to know if these temps are ok. I know my n1 never got that hot and My other friends n1 while charging and playing with it It only gets to like 95 degrees...
Just surfing I got 105, to me that dont sound right.. But if everyone else has temps like that I wont worry..

I live in Vegas and my N1 gets to about 115 sometimes when its charging, so far its a non issue so i wouldnt worry about it to much. My girlfriends captivate gets to about 102 when charging.

The max temp I've seen my phone get while charging was 116°. It gets way hotter compared to my MT3G.

Don't know how hot it gets temperature wise, but it feels really hot only when I stream the Twit live app.

ok I guess it sounds normal.. I did return it though for a replacement. I did also forget to UNROOT. I didnt adb - the SU or BUSY Box.. Hopefully I dont get hit with a bill, Im sure I wont but still.. I totally forgot...

The real question should be...
Can you fry BACON?!
Well i can say that is getting on the abnormal side, i know mine operates normally at about 80-85F and then on charge it can reach 100F

haha.lol!
mine operates at 80-85 degrees Farenheit. thats with the UV @ stock speed.
Mine gets pretty warm when charging up, but other than that seems fine.
I've never experianced it reaching a temp that I would class as 'extremely hot' but then that's pretty subjective.
mine only get extremely hot when i'm charging and listening to last.fm at the same time, but i don't a seidio 1600mah battery, so that could be causing it too...
30C here while idle and not charging, 33C if charging by USB. I guess it goes up to about 40C when plugged into a wall charger.
It does get hotter after playing games on it for a while, though.
on a road trip about 4 hours away from me, i had the navigation, music player, trapster, and lastfm was "scrobbling" in the background. Mine was so hot that i couldn't really hold it in my hand. so i did a dumb thing and held it out the window. luckily i didn't drop it. I've never seen a phone get that hot before either. didn't get a temp as this is my first android phone and didn't know how to at the time. but definitely hotter than 100.
Er... if it was hotter than 100C, then you'd have gotten first-degree burns at least on your hand, so I doubt it. And can't you Yanks get on with the time and start using Celsius over Fahrenheit?
You know I mean 100*F. 100*C would be boiling water. And no I refuse to use the metric system, imperial all the way LOL. j/k
So use setcpu and use the profiles...that keeps my phone nice and cool during charging/sleeping modes.
So would I be able to use that even tho I haven't unlocked or rooted my N1?
Pretty sure SetCPU is a no-go if you don't have root access.
That's what I thought. Guess I have to root my phone.

[Q] How hot is too hot for EVO?

I recently have been playing alot of PES11 and about 10 minutes in, my phone heats up to around 106 degrees. After a couple games I let it cool of because I am scared I will fry my phone. Is 100+ degrees hot enought to do damage to my phone? Any insight would be much appreciated!
I am using Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS 5 with Netarchy kernel.
The battery danger zone is 60 deg C +, while most electronic components can exceed that temp. As long as it is not getting too much over 50 deg C, you are all good
(50 deg C = 122 F)
I havent managed to get it that hot yet... sounds like I am good to go. Thanks much good sir!
mine at 117f is that bad im tethering atm of wifi hack
Again, your battery is safe below 140 deg F so once it goes above 122-131 def f (50-55 deg C), then I would let it cool off.
A good idea if its getting to hot, is to make sure the screen is face down so it can ventilate. Don't leave it face up on the bed or anything as that can help heat build up
Cool thanks for the tip

I do use USB tethering alot so mabe that did it...

Sometimes mine would just randomly get hot (real hot) while charging, and the light will start flashing from orange to green, I assume its a warning light and the phone wont charge until its cooled off. Even across multiple ROMs and kernels, I never figured out why it does it.
phatmanxxl do you know what temperature your phone was getting up to? I use system widget to see what temperature my phone is at. Ive never seen or heard of the notification light flashing

Evo getting extremely hot!

Ever since I picked up the Evo, I have noticed that it is getting extremely hot after using it for a while. Usually happens during Wifi browsing or playing a game. Roughly 10-15 minutes. The kickstand gets so hot that it is almost untouchable.
Using battery monitor widget I can see that the phone temperature gets anywhere from 107 degrees Fahrenheit to 111 degrees Fahrenheit.
I have used several kernals from CFS, BFS, HAVS, NOHAVS, SBC, NONSBC and I am experiencing the same issue. Same thing with different ROMs.
It happens whether the phone is charging or not. I have noticed that it happens more quickly when charging.
Anybody know what temperature threshold the battery has before it begins to get damaged? Anybody have ideas to resolve this?

How is your battery life when the phone gets hot like that? bad, I would assume? Perhaps there is an app that is throttling your CPU 100%, causing the phone to overheat. Does this happen after a completely fresh install, after a full wipe? Have you tried a fresh install without adding any apps back, just to test and see if you get the same results? I'm not sure what the actual temperature is, but the phone has overheat protection. Once it gets to a certain temp, the led starts flashing orange and green. I've had my phone get in excess of 114 F, but that's while under heavy use. 4g tethering, streaming music at the same time, while charging. Under normal use, i'm usually around 80-98 degrees, somewhere in that range, depending on what I'm doing. It only goes over a hundred for me when I tether or play a game or something. What PRI are you on currently? Some phones don't like the newest 1.90 PRI, and dont run well with it (my phone being one of them). Using the 1.77pri works much better on my device.
I would try using Spare Parts, or OS Monitor, or maybe Watchdog, to try to see if anything is running away with your CPU.
Anything over 120 degrees is too hot, under that and you *should* be ok. A friend of mine has a new white one that is doing the same thing and the people at the sprint store told him the wifi and having the radios on will cause it.
hot HTC Evo
Mine seems to pick up a lot heat from receiving emails. Started about 6 months into the use of my new phone. Battery starting acted up as well. It does heat up when playing Pandora & Sirius, but it will heat up without radio use. Mostly just from updates and large emails. Very, very disappointing.
Maybe an defective motherboard ?

Yeah, as someone said a while ago, check to see if there is an app keeping your CPU at 100. There was a gps driver for aosp roms a while ago that caused CPU spiking. Happened to me and while it was spiked my phone was dangerously hot. Flashed a different driver and was back to norm temps. Good luck.

What's the highest temperature your battery got so far?

41 C (106 F) yesterday when I was waiting for my sisters doctor appointment to finish. Was playing Baseball Superstars for over an hour. lol
Usually its not too bad but that was getting rather hot.
Is there a level that's beyond safe for the phone?

Right now, the temperature is 32C on the battery. The CPU gets far hotter. When using RockPlayer to play some AVIs, the temperature jumped to the low 50s C. It was not a pleasant experience.
43c when playing games while plugged in.
yeah my CPU gets waaaay hotter than my battery
my CPU hit about 50C watching NBA highlight videos over wifi (battery was around 36C)
i'm running gingerblur on 1.57 if that matters
personally i think the phone gets EXTREMELY hot..
i havent had any reboots because of it, but im pretty sure my browser crashed after playing videos for about 20 minutes straight...cause it just exited to the homescreen out of nowhere
i wonder if this can be addressed somehow in a future update..i dont want to underclock my CPU cause i'd be surpressing the power of this phone if i did
Seems pretty common,i was scary at beginning but seems normal I get like 41° playing music over bt and browsing in normal its 27 I use set cpu to slow down when its higher than 45° c I never noticed I have random reboots I noticed when I check time since unplug weird

I'm going to be very crude here. Two explanations for your 'problem'
1. Your seeking attention (troll). Evidence: 1st post on xda (Welcome btw) and poor grammar etc.
2. Your bending the truth (Liar). Evidence: My phone has reached high temperature before (not even 100 degrees) the phone will enter 'Emergency Cool Down' and you will be unable to use it. Also the temperature which the battery circuit will cut off power is way below 186 degrees. The temperature which the Tegra 2 core will send the THERMTRIP signal (or equivalent (im an intel guy)) is also way below 186 degrees. Finally, at those temperature, your skin would have been burnt.
Yes I know, don't feed the trolls, but i could not help it.
I don't think I've seen mine hit higher than around 40C. It usually hovers around the low- to mid-30C's range. Then again, I don't play many games, but I do use a bunch of different apps for video, music, and social media. Hopefully I never have problems with the temperature, though.
41 was the most I've had

ive been a member since july after always looking on here since ive bought the phone early march figuring i would need to post but in reality if i look hard enough there is never really anything to say that hasnt been said. so i dont post. Thanks for the grammar comment, i appreciate it. and i dont care about attention, my phone said it was 187, and it FELT HOT as all hell, and when i put it in the ice bucket it went all the way down to 63 as did my batt (my batt was only up to 111, normal in my opinion) so i think my sensor might be working ok, i should have checked in in set cpu and not that temp app that came with homebase, i was freaking out because if i would have done my phone in for good i can never return it because i tore it down to replace a cracked digitizer and my GF threw away my sticker that went behind the batt with my numbers on it, something att would never take back so i was in panic mode. I went online and a did a search for highest atrix temps and this is all i found, ill crawl away now and not share anything fantastic any more, but thanks for even considering the option that something might have a glitch in all the custom stuff we have now and that maybe the phone is able to handle more then we think, at least i will always know.
---------- Post added at 09:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 AM ----------
i also have been looking around now, and there have been mac books that have reached that temp, and lived to tell and i also was thinking that it was reading 186/7 at the core, not on the outside, so im not sure why the phone would burn me. A little extra info was that when i dropped the cpu i cactually dropped it to 456000 im not sure what to say but i felt it was big enough that i would share.

Sorry for being so rude, really apologise for that.
You said you fixed the screen by yourself, I would really check that to see if anything have went wrong.
Also you state the sensor stated it was that high. At such high temperature, Android will stop functioning and the CPU would also shut off. As such, I do think your sensor is malfunctioning. I wouldn't use that phone if I were you, if Motorola doesn't want to fix it, get some other 3rd party to do so. It's worth the peace of mind.

Apps that heat up SGS2

It has been suggested, that this thread is changed to show the apps, that heats up our phone.
The list is:
"Gangster - Miami Vindication" - Gameloft
"Google Earth" - Google
_________________________________________________
Hello.
Have anybody noticed that the phone gets very hot, when running a few select apps - but not all apps???
I have played a lot of games on the phone, and almost all Gameloft games without any problems, and the phone don't get to hot - it do heat up, but nothing thats worth any thought.
But yesterday i downloaded "Gangster" from Gameloft, and started playing that game. After just 5 minutes the phone got so hot, that i had to shut it down, because i was afraid of something melting internally.
I have played the game a couple of times, with the same result - which had led to uninstalling the game, because i'm just to afraid to damage the phone.
I have no other apps, that gets the phone so hot - not even remotely warm, so i'm suspecting "Gangster" to be coded badly or something like that... i'm not charging the phone, while playing - so it must be the game, thats running the phone 100%, which lead to overheating.
Any thoughts on that, anyone???...
Do the SGS2 have some sort of protection inside, so i'm overreacting - or should i just play on, without being so afraid to damage the phone???
That happens exactly the same on mine..
Gangster game from Gameloft is heating too much our phones..
I find out that Google Earth, after a while and with the 3D buildings on, also heats a lot the phone..
It seems some/many apps are heating up this phone, and some users have reported S2 going bad due to this heat. It would be nice if we can maintain a list of such apps in this thread....it would help us all know which apps to use cautiously!!
It would be nice if the topic starter can change the heading to 'Apps that heat up S2' or something like that !!

the only time my phone got that hot was when I was watching a longer flash stream in the browser. after a few minutes the (view from behind) left side of the camera became really hot so I quit the browser and left the phone alone until it settled itself.
Real football 2011 gameloft. Makes my touchscreen...untouchable!!
This is due software coding.. Some apps have both cores running at 100 % all the time..
Nice idea to list them all here and IF damage is possible to the device..

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1114454
Some of the "hot" games mentioned over there:
Sky Force Reloaded
Hot Springs Story
Download battery monitor off the market and monitor the temperature while playing these games. I've played a game that heat the battery up to 48c for a few hours and no harm was done, so I believe it has to be even hotter to make the GS2 go bad. Charging it while playing also makes it 5-8c hotter than usual.
A few games that really heat up my phone was
- Gem Miner: Dig Deeper
- Medieval Castle Defense
- X Construction
- Retro Defense
- Hot Spring Story
"Hot" is relative.

I haven't had a single phone that didn't warm up when i plugged into be charged
Battery temperature meters are great, for telling you the temperature of the battery. When this phone generates heat it isn't coming from the battery.
I have only had one game cause any significant heating, Bonzai Blast. It also chewed through the battery quickly. Removing the game removed the problem.
I had the phone feel warm in my pocket once at idle. Later that day I found that the AP Mobile app had downloaded 270 Mb that morning even though I wasn't using the widget. I put the widget on my home screen, changed the settings to never update, then removed the widget. Hasn't been a problem since.
I switched my SGS II off but forgot it in the car cradle.....
When I came back it was almost melting ....
Quickly downloaded the app "mobile deep freezer" and now I can use the SGS II as ice cube for my drinks ...
......... ;-))
