other than that i understand the whole process, is flashrec missing app manager, or im i missing something, please any help would be much appreciated
There are several file manager applications available on the Market. Are you sure you have one that is able to install APKs? For example, OI File Manager is able to do that.
... There is also Astro File Manager...

Hey, got me a xperia x10i today.
Iv been searching now for many houers on how to install programs on the phone but cant find it..... I want to install .apk files how do i get them into my phone etc?
Use an app called app installer
Store the .apk files onto your SD Card. Make sure to have this checked:
Settings -> Applications -> Unknown sources
Use a file explorer program such as Astro (Find it in the market) and then navigate to the .apk file on your sdcard. Press on the file and it should start the installation process.
thanks m8's
Im deeply sry for my lack of intel, i now understand that u meen market on the phone
I recently flashed Liquid Smooth 3.1 and I'm liking it so far, the only drawback is that it removes the stock DX File Manager, and doesn't offer one of its own. I'm using Astro now which isn't bad, but I still kinda want the original back. Can anyone direct me to the .apk file for it, or take the .apk from their system apps so I can have a copy?
Thanks.
Don't know if it'll simply install for you...

Might need to try manually moving it...
Changing permissions.
And I'm not sure what blur framework has been removed in this rom...but I'd assume you'll need some of it.
So you may be out of luck.
Didn't work, but I appreciate the help and that looks like a useful source.
Thanks
Have you just tired any other file managers. Like root explorer?
You could just use rom manager to download a stock rom. Then unzip it and goto system/apps and get the file manager app. Then use root explorer and put it in the same file on your phone and reboot or adb push.

Yes
Probably stupid, but did you check in Titanium Backup? If you were rooted stock and did a batch backup of all your apps before flashing, then it will definitely be there.
I personally prefer ES File Explorer over the Stock File manager and any other 3rd-Party apps...
Due to the forum rules I cannot ask in the appropiate sub-forum so I go loose here.

I installed this but I failed to get the "file manager" or "files" app to get installed, was it a result of a bad flash or something?
Which rom do you recommend to install with Android gingerbread that is stable enough at this current moment?
Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about the file manger in the sense of viewing the files on sd card? I think there might be no one integrated in the rom, not sure about it. But you can download it from the android market (OI File Manager or ASTRO File Manager e.g.). I don't think that the flashing did go wrong.
If you don't have the android market you have to flash gapps: http://www.multiupload.com/HS1NAR8I8R

It was Filer that I meant. Yes, I realized you could download any file explorer app.
Thanks for getting back at me.
I can see that with Android Oreo there is a new section to install from Unknown Sources; but do apps need to update to show up in the list? For example I use Solid Explorer as my file manager and so am used to installing apps from there. Now it won't let me and I have to do it from the Downloads app. Annoying!
If you go to settings, apps & notifications, advanced, special app access, install unknown apps you should be able to allow it for your file manager, if that's what you want.
If you want to install from your file manager, tap the apk while your in your file manager and Oreo should ask you if you want to allow it from your filemanager.
Edit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73623948&postcount=11 this guy had the same issue I guess.
I don't see it in that menu. That's where I was looking already. I only have some google app and facebook.

I just installed and opened the solid explorer, choosed a apk file, solid explorer starts with the menu: open with..., I choosed packet Installer and Oreo ask me if I want to allow to install unknown sources from solid explorer. I don't know what's the problem. You should uninstall and reinstall the solid explorer and start from the beginning, if that fails for you for whatever reason.
Hello, I have a problem with file manager. I deleted both file managers by accident. How can I bring them back now?
OnePlus File Manager and Google Files are available on Playstore. Whereas the other one you may get the APK and install it.
