It looks like I will have to send my phone back to HTC as the screen has the dreaded white blotches. Havent played with ROM for a while and cant remember if I flashed it to something other than stock upgrades - is the following stock?
OS 5.2.21869
Manila version 2.5.192116619.0
Rom Version 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE
Rom Date 01/11/10
Radio version 2.06.51.07
Protocol Version 15.30.50.07U
Would it be accepted by HTC in its current state (and does anyone know a way of backing up so I can return all the progs to it in one step when I get it back)?
best thing to tell us is whats in the bootloader mate
how do I find that?
phone off, press and hold vol down, tap and release power.
when coloured stripey screen shows release vol down.
where it says spl, look at the number to the right.
if it ends .0000 its stock, if it ends .hspl its hspl.
the rom info doesn't matter for warranty, only the spl.
great, mine says SPL-1.42.0000 XE so I guess that is telling me its stock and ok to send as is.
yep thatl be fine. 1.42.0000and 1.66.0000 are the two usual spl for the regular leo.
many thanks

Hi there, samsamuel, talking about returning the HD2 for service or repair, I got interested about your reply. You said as long as the original SPL is there and they won't care about the Rom. Just wonder if I have my HSPL reinstalled back to SPL but custom or offical Rom from different region left installed on the handset when I send it back for repair, would they not noticed the Rom is not supposed to be on the machine unless it has been hacked?
not that I need to send mine back, finger crossed. Would like to know how will they deal with these cases if I need to one day.
thx
Hello
Just to share on this topic I sent my HD2 back to HTC for warranty repair with HSPL and a custom ROM on it and all the work was carried out and it came back with SPL and a T Mobile ROM back on it.

well im no expert, and i dont work for any phone repair Co., but no one has reported being refused, except for when they sent it back with hspl still installed.
In theory you 'could' have made the rom into a custom rom using cabs and tweaks and brute force, (in practice you probably couldn't,) but asking the tech to figure out if a rom is official with tweaks or not is not as cut and dried as 'yes hspl is there, thats hacked software, refuse' or 'yep, thats a valid spl, repair it'. You do after all have a windows license, with a certain ammount of tweak rights, but you have no rights at all to the spl.
Bearing in mind the first thing they will do is almost certainly re flash the rom to the rom they are currently shipping, its understandable why this would be the case.

heh, nice.
They do care about the spl and the rom, mate.
I took mine back to Vodafone, and the first thing the guy there tried to check out was the rom version and the spl version. Unfortunately for him, my microwave oven worked "wonders" on the screen and he was never able to actually check anything. They might fix the screen then check for the software part, but hopefully they won't do anything about it.
(I have to mention the fact that it`s not Vodafone who actually fixes devices, it`s a smaller partner of theirs who takes care of faulty decives such as mine.)

yea, i said they care about the spl, its the bit they care about most.
however I've never sent one back, so I'm just going on feedback from people that have, and no ones ever mentioned the rom being a problem, only the hspl.

I downloaded and installed that ROM - It's 1.14 not 1.19!!
Where do these get released? Or haven't they been released?
I'm intrigued to find where the latest HTC Firmware will appear if Orange get round to messing with it.
That is why you are here -----
It is due to the fact that carriers don't upgrade and want you to run out of contract and buy a new toy (thus with a new rom).
This is why we cook roms (off the new toys for old boys).
I have yet to see an offical GER (german rom) come out from my or any other carrier including HTC (who are not carriers).
Now after saying all that wiki does have a orange ship.exe
Still unsure about flashing the ROM
Hi,
So the ROM supplied in the above links will upgrade the Orange ROM and keep all the horrible things that Orange have done to the handset to cripple it.
I only ask as my phone is company supplied and I do not want to screw up the handset.
My ROM is 1.19.61.1 WWE and the operator version is 34.119.1.611.
Forgive my ignorance about these matters
Chris
it´s very simple: if you like to keep your device at it is, there´s no need to flash another rom. if you like to get rid of that orange rom and take part of the better ones install one of the very good rom available here.

I also want to get rid of my Orange ROM. I have read the wikis and am confident enough to be able to do it. One thing I am unsure about is, the ROM I would like to try is Panosha`s Black Pearl but as I understand it, it is based on a 1.56 ROM. and my ROM is 1.19.61.1. I can get USPL onto my TouchHD but am unsure as whether I can flash Panosha`s ROM onto my device without first flashing a 1.56 ROM. I`ve searched the Orange website and at the moment there is no 1.56 ROM.
If you are going to flash a cooked rom, then why panic about flashing the stock 1.54/1.56 roms first.
I`m not panicking, just unsure about whether I have to. I`m sure I read in the wikis that I need a 1.56 ROM on my device to flash a 1.56 based cooked ROM. Can`t find this statement any more so maybe I imagined it.
Just noticed a statement on Panosha`s ROM page which says "First flash 1.56.xxxx ROM"

Yup, you need the 1.54 SPL version from Stock first which comes with the 1.56 ROM.
Read the tutorial for more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
Then any issues just ask in that thread, loads of people will help... its what we're here for
Thanks mate, I thought so. I went ahead and did it but I now have the green screen issue so I`ve obviously not done it right. Just need to read up now how to fix it. I flashed USPL 2.5 first and then one of Duttys 1.56 ROMS which all went on fine until it rebooted. Maybe I`m not understanding the flash process as much as I thought.
Check your SPL version by turning off the phone, holding down the volume button and pressing power once. It should go to the tri colour screen and say SPL- 1.56, if it doesn't it answers why your phone has gone green screen. The SPL and the ROM numbers need to match.
It's quite simple to solve, don't worry, your phone isn't bricked.
You just need to run hard SPL 1.54 which you can find on this forum. run it via PC whilst in activesync with your phone and it will do the rest. Let us know if you still have problems after this.
Thanks. I have spl 1.14. I knew I hadn`t bricked it, just caused the green screen problem because of my own stupidity not fully understanding the procedure. The ROM is showing as 1.56Dutty, do I have to flash Hardspl 1.56 or the older one. Also does the phone have to be unlocked. I thought I had all this cracked but it just gets more & more complicated the more I try and correct my **** up.
This may seem like a silly question..but .. if I install a cooked Rom
Will my connection setting for Orange as my service provider be retained?
Thanks
yes. its detected automatically after you flashed the ROM. if you hard reset (which you ought to do) then youll just go through the customisation process where you confirm that your service provider is orange.
I'm obviously a newbie
Thanks - I was bricking myself anout this.

you already have the latest Orange ROM
I thought I was ready to go before I came accross this thread and it's left me hesitant.
I too have an Orange branded phone. SPL 1.14 ROM 1.19.61.1 WWE.
I thought that all I needed to do was:
a) update windows 7 USB driver so I can sync from the tri-colour screen.
b) run HSPL 1.56.OliNex
c) flash a new 1.56 ROM
edit: Do I need to update to stock SPL 1.54 before step b?
As davemazo says, does it need to be Orange unlocked to do this? dgattenb saying he can't flash the 1.54 HSPL onto the phone has put this on hold.
Cheers,
I have had 1.56 for a week now, and out of the blue the HD won't stop vibrating... Removing the battery is the only way!
Have OliNex Hard SPL on it also...
If I put battery back in, it vibrates immediately, so clearly not O/S related!
Has anyone else had this issue with that rom/spl on an orange hd?
I do want to also update the replacement as the on screen keyboard is miles better (less typos!) than with the 1.14 Orange rom...
Please comment!
Thanks
You're not alone...been there. About a week or two after I received mine, I had the exact same problem. Just out of the blue. No matter what I did, the only way to get it to stop was to pull the battery. As soon as I put it back in, it would start vibrating again. I spent a day researching the issue and as it turned out this has happened to other devices, not exlusively to the HD or HTC devices. Everywhere I looked the answer was essentially: "the phone was defective return it". I tried a different battery, hardreset etc., but to no avail. I ended up returning it and getting a replacement two days later.
So did you do any ROM updates, or was that with the factory rom?
I've got the orange HD.
No Orange ROM update to match the one from HTC
so I put OliNex 1.14 on it.
Tried duttys V3.3 and it messed up the colours and was really slow an unrepsonsive.
Then put on the official 1.56 version, colours still messed up
Put 1.14 back and its all fine???
Have orange put something nasty on the phone?

no whats happened is
when 1.56 roms came out it needed a newer spl version so it buts it on the phone for you
this newer spl contains diferent display files that make your colour go all nasty
heres what to do
flash spl 1.56 from olipro or olinex
then you can flash a newr rom like duttys
but then you cant flash back to an older rom without flashing an old spl version
that will take some reading

At the time it was the factory rom...1.56 had not come out yet. From my perch, I don't think it's due to any rom. To my knowledge, at least for me, the vibrate motor went bad.
Thanks, thats what I thought...
Still you may want to flash back the original Orange ROM just to make sure they don't reject your warranty.
hi people
i got my brand new HD2 unlocked a few days ago and it shipped with 1.43 ROM.
It was freezing occasionaly and so i thought a ROM upgrade would help.
i downloaded TMOUS 2.02 ROM and did a HSPL and then flashed my device with it.
now after flashing the phone works fine but i am getting three lines horizontally written accross the screen saying "HTC CONFIDENTIAL" and the other two lines are my IMEI number and anotherr number starting with HTC.
please help me because these lines are simply not going
i know i am a newbie
but i would really appreciate some help

The TMOUS 2.02 ROM is a test ROM so the "HTC CONFIDENTIAL" is there because of that. The 2.02 ROM dosnt handle a soft reset either. I recomend that you change to another ROM. Its not suited for everyday use.
I am a tourist too, but you are really an expert ...
Why the hack you are flashing a secret Test rom from htc???
There are a huge numbers of good cooked and/or stock roms available you can choose from.
As far as I was told the TMOUS 2.02 ROM is a test rom and will let you boot ONLY 1 time, so if you switch off your phone or do a soft reset - bingo - you will not be able to use your phone any more (no panic you can flash another rom).
But on top of it, I was told that this rom will send informations about your phone to htc ... once you are letting connect it to the provider and a data connection is up.
I guess this is why you see your IMEI on the screen.
There is ONLY one reason to flash this rom and this is to get the newer SPL on the phone instead of the normal 1.42 one, but than you have to know what you are doing and you need a OS rom which you can flash BEFORE letting the phone making a connection with the interenet ... (be carefull: you need a special OS whith the neccessary drivers for the new SPL, as far as I know it is NOT recommended to use this new SPL with cooked roms for the stock 1.42 SPL or the HSPL from bepe)
If there is no better advice from a real expert I would recommend that you flash your HD2 with a stock 1.66 rom for your region and than if you want you can HSPL again (or use the SSPL from bepe) and choose a rom which is suiting your needs from this forum.
Hope this is helping you.
Best regards
dingolino

i received a T-Mobile US Branded HD2 for free at a training event in NYC Monday. i jacked the phone up immediately when i got home in a attempt to flash the hspl for custom rom flashing. of course the hspl flash failed because of the new spl version so i then attempted to downgrade it with a older shipped rom using bepe's SSPL following his instructions correctly. as soon as the status bar appears on my pc, my hd2 prompts me asking to allow the application to go into bootloader. after touching yes, the hd2 screen turns black and stays black with the sspl ruu displaying a connectivity error.
ahhhhhhhhh! somebody help.
im guessing my spl is too new to downgrade?
In a word, yes (I think, might be wrong)...
Have you not read of the people flashing to the T-Mobile 2.x ROMs who can't downgrade their SPL if not using HSPL?
Don't know whether MTTY with an SD card flash would work but I wouldn't risk it
as I understand the s pl 2 issue, it seems theres no way to down grade it currently. I believe you can flash cooked roms with sspl.
do you have spl 2? boot to boot loader and check, cos it might be 1.6 and you can fix that one by flashing a lower stock rom that matches the vendor.(or gold carding, but gold card won't work on 2)
oh, regarding the connectivity error, try flash from a usb port directly on the motherboard (round the back)I get connectivity errors with hspl using ports in the front of the pc case.

sspl should work.
connect the leo normally with active sync, ie a booted running rom.
out should change to the sspl tricolor screen.
leave it too time out. pull the usb cable.plug it back in again, without doing anything to the leo..
it should change to usb. rerun sspl.
I'd similar situation, you've to install official ROM with lower version of SPL like version 1.48 then you can apply Hard SPL and it'll work.
To do it i used GoldCard method (installation using the SD card method).
My configuration:
HD2, TMOUS 2.10
What's the version of your ROM and if it's possible to post a screen capture of the "Software Information" page?
Good Luck
DON'T USE SSPL and HSPL on new 576/1024 GB devices.
There are (in 1.42) no support for 1024 chips.
New SSPL and HSPL (based on 2.08) will work. In development.

As stated in the title, I'm about to flash back to the old version because the new T9193 telstra doesn't want me to install the HSPL. Anyone who's got the official ROM with 1.42 SPL for me, that's appreciated.

If not then just go back to your current rom.
that is the right one, telstra 1.49 has spl 1.42
by flash your ROM in this case, is the unlock neccessary? If I understand right, is the unlocking means I can get rid of the CID check to install any wrong CID or unsigned ROM. But if I want to install a CID matched ROM on my device, I don't need to isntall HSPL.
correct, you don't require hspl, because it is a telstra rom on a telstra phone.
Thanks for that! I'm gonna give it a go tonight, and let you guys know how it goes tomorrow.
Successful!!!
I hope people who has Telstra HTC HD2 can find something useful for them.
Greatly thanks to ClydeB1 and samsamuel!!!

usually means you didnt flash a matching radio. Read your cooked rom thread, see what radios it recommends and compare to what you have.
