Voice Synth - Read Text Msgs - Galaxy S I9000 General

In addition to another thread that says you can announce a track name while playing it by holding the UP VOLUME button, you can also do this for individual texts.
Example,
Go to a text msg thread, click on the msg, push hold UP VOLUME and it reads it.
Does anyone know a way to do this for e-mail?

Does it work if you get a text in another language then English? Do you need a local version of the rom/csc for it to work?

You bring me up to let me down. I tried this, it adjusts the font size of my text message.
Damn you Korean firmware! I'm happy for you though. Just in case I'm doing it wrong, this is the stock message app, right?
Edit: I do have SpeechSynthesis Data installed on the phone, and I can get the example to play right but it doesn't work in the text message.

It works on mine and yes its just the stock sms app, you click on the speech bubble then hold the volume up key. It should also work with the media player as well, it reads the name out of the currently playing track when you hold the up volume key (you only need to hold it until it starts speaking).
@ Deanwray, I've tried it in emails and i have no joy either

Sweet, thanks for that

Not sure about the other versions of this phone, but for the Vibrant (T-Mobile USA), if you go to Menu->Settings->Text-to-Speech, there is a setting called "Driving Mode" which automatically speaks all incoming texts and calls. It's a pretty nice feature

Different Notifications for txt delivery confirmation

Is there any add on for the Exec that will allow me to have a different notification sound for a Delivery Confirmation text (marked as from System Administrator on Vodafone).
I like to get a confirmation back but I only want a very short sound for it, not the normal notify sound I get with a normal text message!
Any ideas?

Don't know if this will work - but I noticed the other day that you can assign ringtones to specific contacts (I think) - maybe you could set up the SysAdmin as a contact with a short ringtone - I don't know if that would work for texts. (I've not tried it at all).
No, this only works for Ringtones, not Notifications from text messages.
where are all the default sounds for text notifications kept?
Mortring does the job. Search in the google for it. I'm using and an can assigne diferent rings for instance for notifications.
Best regards,
Aprt

Ive heard of Mortring, but can you tell me if it will allow a ringtone based not on a number but on a named string, as the test I get back for delivery confirmation doesnt have a number associated with it, it has the words "System Administrator" on it, no number at all.
Well i think not, because the one thing the app can do is to apply a ringtone to an unidentified contact, contact with no categories defined, by categories. The same for text messages.
So basically it functions using the number and the string used by the appz is the number.
Here is the topic made by the author of the program and you can ask him.

Greetings,
Aprt
Thank you for that, im greatful
Thought I'd tag on this thread.
I have just got two phones, on each for me and the good lady. She wants to know if there is a way of it reminding her that she has a text - currently the phone makes a noise once and then unless you open it up to check, you have no idea if you have a text.
Her old phone used to make a tone every few minutes if she had a text.
I can't see any settings in the phone to do this. Are there any apps out there that would fit the bill ?
Any advice greatfully received.

I don't know any apps, but you can go to Start>Settings>Personal> Sound and Notifications>Notifications>New Text Messages and check the "Flash light for NO LIMIT". This will ensure if you receive any text msgs that the indicator light will flash orange if you have any text message and it will only disappear after you dismiss or read it.

Phone Alarm from http://www.pocketmax.net/ will do this, and a lot more besides.
As for my problem, Mortring doesnt seem WM5 compatible - Oh well
I was going to say
You could read http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=9736&highlight=vibrate+play+registry
and have a play. Let us all know if you get it to work.

but then I thought I'd have a look myself. Looking at the registry, text message notification is in notifications not sounds. Anyone know what the options are in HKCU/ControlPanel/Notifications/*/Options are ?

[REQ] SMS sending confirmation ???

i searched the forum and the manual already. i didn't find a piece.
is there a way to set up a sms-sending-confirmation? i accidentally hit the "send" button while typing and the sms is gone directly ... awful and annoying.
i got no clue. dont know where to look inside the registry to find any entry.
any help? app? setting?
tia
Do you mean delivery reports?
If so go to Messages, Select All Messages, then from the screen select Menu > Settings > Options.
Then on this screen tick "Request delivery report".
Will tell you if the message got there depending on your network supporting it, works very well. I use it cause of the HD2 SMS not sending issue, this way I know its gone.
I think he means a confirmation, for when you press Send. That a popup comes up like "Do you really want to send this text message?"
I don't think this option exist tho. Atleast not in standard.

Yes I presumed it was something similar to that. I dont think its that much of an issue though as the Send Button is quite far out of the way on the screen so I cant see how you can accidentily send them. Also I dont know of any phones that have thid confirmation? the iPhone would have been more of a contender for that considering its send button is near the top right meaning much higher likelihood of hitting it (although that never happened to me).
what i'd like is some form of notification that a message has actually sent, rather than just having to presume that it has

He just wrote it there, read!
No a delivery report only confirms that the person has received the text, not that my device has sent it. i can't use delivery reports anyway as I'm on o2 and they don't support it i'd just like some form of notification that it was sending e.g. on my previous nokia Series 60 a little tray with an arrow pointing out of it would be displayed in the top notification area until the message had sent.
Well, this might just be me but.
If you get a delivery report, it means the other person received your text message!
So how would it be possible then, that your text message isn't send? If you get what I'm saying.
This might just work for you?
52. Enable SMS Delivery Reports on O2 Network
O2 sadly do not support sms delivery reports no matter even if you enable them in sms settings or the registry. An alternative way is to add *0# in the body of the message followed by a space and then begin your message. The recipient does not see the code but you will get a message back saying when it has been delivered.

i could do that, but i'd rather not have to type it in at the beginning of each message. network or signal issues could delay/stop a message sending i just like confirmation that my device has done its part and the message is on its way, regardless of if the destination phone is turned on or not.
once you hit send, if your message briefly flashes then it has been sent. if it has not been sent you will get a warning icon which is an ! in a triangle.

are your serious?
if i write a textmessage / sms in landscape-mode, the send-button is in the bottom-left corner (just below the space-bar and the comma - german layout). i got the original keyboard, so the sensitivity is extremely high, you just have to accidentally touch it a little and the sms is gone...
maybe it just needs some time to get rid of that, same as you need time, to get familiar with the typing, but my google-search showed me that im not the only one with that "problem".
it only asks for confirmation if u try to send an empty message.

HTC People BUG

HTC People bug:
- When editing an existing contact, I am unable to open the pop-up menu on the phone numbers (actually, I am able to open the pop-up menu on the Mobile phone, but not on the Work or Home phone - didn't try the rest of them).
Do you have this as well?
did anyone else find this error?
sorry, don't understand the problem.care to elaborate on what you expect it to do and ill see if I can recreate it?

Right.
Go to any contact, and then click edit contact (using HTC People).
Tap and hold the mobile number text box. A context menu will pop-up, showsing options the following options: Undo, Cut, Copy, Past, Clear and Select All.
This sort of things, is normal to happen.
Now try doing the same for the last name text box. And for the e-mail text box.
It wil work as supposed to.
Now do it for the Work number, Home number or other text box numbers.
duplicate deleted
ahhh I see it.the menu only comes up for the first entry in the email and telephone numbers sections.the screen flickers as though it knows it should be doing something, but the menu doesn't come up.
Definite bug, well spotted.

I've informed the customer support at HTC about this, but after a series of e-mails, I am affraid they won't announce anybody at the dev. dept. in Taiwan or whatever.
So, in case you get this too, what about posting the error (bug) to the Customer support as well? Maybe they'll put this little buggy where it belongs!
yea illpost a bug report when I get home.I wouldn't hold your breath for a fix tho....hehe

[Q] forward a received text???

hello all! can u tell me step by step how to do this? i would think that i if i pressed down on the text i wold receive an option to forward, but this is not the case, rather, when i hold down on the text, the only options made available to me are 'view thread", 'add to contacts' and 'delete thread'...please help!
oh yeah, and i have ALREADY tried googlin'!
I was just wondering the same thing. Maybe I'm just to used to the iPhone4, or maybe I'm a complete bumdass. Either way it seems unusually hard to figure out. Can someone please chime in on this one. Simple functions shouldn't be this hard.
mine says "forward" when you press and hold the message. are you pressing the text, or the thread?

ten characters
Step by step,
Go to messages
Open up the threaded group that has the message you want to send out
locate said message and tap and hold ON THAT MESSAGE ONLY
You will get a popup menu that towards the bottom says Forward.
et voila. You are good to go.

you should be able to but im not sure as i have the sprint g900p phone. but you can try, open gmail-top left hit the three lines- scroll down till you see settings-tap your account name-look for inbox sound and vibrate- tap sound ( you might get asked to complete action using, select one and hit just once), if you arent asked for that, pick a sound and hit okay. back out and your gmail is set.
messaging: open messages-upper right tap the three dots-tap settings-tap notifications-tap notification sounds (again, you might get asked to complete action using, select one and hit just once), if you arent asked for that, pick a sound and hit okay. back out and messaging is done.
hope that helped
