Okay so I was browsing around CM6 RC1 today and decided I might try the ClockworkMod Recovery image. I did not know CM has this memory corruption issue at the time. So now my recovery is corrupted. I can boot into the ROM fine, and I believe the solution is to go into fastboot and somehow replace the recovery, SPL or both, but I cannot find an definitive answer online.

UPDATE:
The answer was to flash a SAPPIMG from fastboot (since I had perfected SPL)
I used Amon_RA's excellent guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218
other than creating that shiny goldcard the process was very simple.

sometimes you have to try more than once. for some reason the first time doesn't always take... but it should on the second attempt.

So I was following the directions on unlockr and I seem to be having some problems.
I downloaded the sappimg and flashed it, restarted and it hung at the first boot screen for 15 - 20 minutes. I restarted into the bootloader mode and tried to reflash the sappimg but its stuck at "[1] SYSTEM - Unzipping" and the progress bar hasn't filled at all...
What should I do? Should I try to restart and do it again or?
Also, my original info on that screen has changed, it was this:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G

CPLD-13
RADIO-2.22.23.02

RADIO-3.22.20.17
Jun 2 2009, 17:27:03
Does this mean it flashed okay and I should just move on in the guide or?
Thanks for your help in advance!
EDIT: I downloaded the sappimg.zip file a couple of times and I double checked that it copied okay to the goldcard... I think the file is correct but I don't know why I'm running into problems on the first few step
My phone has been sitting this way for almost an hour... Should I just take out the battery and hope for the best or does anyone have any suggestions? It seems that it hasn't flashed anything or done anything at all since it is just saying "unzipping" without any progress... I plugged it into usb because I don't want the battery running out but I'm not convinced its charging...
Anyone?
So I gave up, restarted (by removing the battery) I can still get into fastboot/'bootloader mode' (is this the same as recovery?) and my SPL and Radio information is the same as earlier. 'fastboot devices' reveals my phone in fastboot mode so I think I'm on the right track but I just want to be sure... Should I continue on and do the fastboot commands?
EDIT: PLEASE DELETE/CLOSE THIS THREAD
Despite running into problems, I continued through the guide and it worked out perfectly.

then you can proceed to the next steps..
you need the original fender/1.2 radio img , hboot/spl, and amen ra's rooted recovery... and flash them in that order 1st. radio 2nd. hboot/spl and 3rd rooted recovery...
and no hboot is not the same as recovery..fastboot its your hboot/spl

Thanks for the reply, I guess I didn't need to create a thread because I figured it out on my own. I was worried I bricked my new phone but it worked out in the end.
Thanks again! This thread can be closed/deleted.
Hello,
my magic is in really bad shape after some bad decisions:
After wiping and flashing Yoshi's Gingerbread 7.1 the phone started to reboot itself randomly. It worked perfectly with previous versions of this rom. Reading the forums some people said it had to do with the recovery and how some didn't wipe certain partitions, and recomended to use Clockwork recovery instead. Here's the first bad decision, I was lazy and used the market app to flash it (rom manager?), and since then I couldn't boot into recovery any more.
Now, after wiping every partition I can't use adb, and being unable to flash anything with fastboot ("FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)"), what can I do?
With fastboot boot recovery it freezes in "booting...". I also tried flashing the recovery through terminal emulator, didn't work (throwed lot of hex addresses).

Thanks for your time!
Solved.
Used HTC's RUU. The phone's back to stock conditions. Will be rooting and doing everything else again soon.
Hi,
Would you be able to elaborate on where you download the RUU and how you used it to fix the problem? I've got a similar situation, my phone bootloops, the recovery is inoperable, but I can get into hboot. Thanks!
Hi,
You cand download the RUU from here:
http://www.htc.com/es/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=246&cat=2&dl_id=882
The install process is very simple. You only need to turn on the phone on fastboot mode and execute the .exe (on a Windows machine).
Regards
Do you know if this will be compatible with my phone and its current setup?
Here's my info from hboot

Hi all,
I'm in the process of trying to upgrade past CM 6.0 on my Magic (mytouch 1.2). I'm currently hitting a brick wall and was wondering if someone could give me a nudge in the right direction.
In fastboot - the device gives:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT -1.33.0013 (SAPP31000)
..
RADIO-2.22.23.02
So that's what the phone is currently running. I can run Amon-Ra's 1.70 sapphire recovery on the phone as well as CM6.0
I was trying (hoping to be able to anyway) to upgrade the radio / SPL to take advantage of some of the GB stuff people are porting over. I first flashed an update to an Engineering SPL to 1.33.2005 in recovery, and then I fastboot flashed a new radio, 6.35.16.19 and SPL 1.76.2007. I attempted to flash Clockwork's recovery at this point, and have hit a brick wall. I can go back to the original version of the software with no problems, and my phone boots to fastboot even with the new stuff installed, but I am unable to boot to recovery, either by holding menu down, or trying to boot the image from fastboot.
I did make sure to format my SD Card, I've fastboot erase system -w'd, and also erased each individual partition, with no luck.
Any suggestions?

Then I flashed the new Radio (6.35.19) image, and the new SPL image (1.76.2007), as well as the Clockwork Mod recovery (I have tried this with AmonRa as well):

It's at this point, after doing 'fastboot erase system -w' and 'fastboot reboot-bootloader' and then rebooting, that I am unable to enter recovery mode. The phone just hangs at the htc magic splash screen. I should note that I am able to enter fastboot and hboot with no difficulty. Attempting to do 'fastboot boot "recovery.img"' has also proved unsuccessful.
I suspect that my problems lie in my original version of the SPL being S-ON. I get the feeling I'm going to need to go dig out my gold card, since the update I'm using to get to 1.33.2005 seems to indicate '32b'. I might also be reading too much into it.
What ever you do... STOP NOW.
You are working in the blind dude... you are 1 step away from bricking your device.
You cannot have 32A radio. Your device is a hybrid, a 32B with 32A ram... Just look at it as you have 32B with a little extra ram...
Follow this guide and continue from step 4 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734617
Thanks for the save. I'll definitely admit that some of this is higher level than I'm used to. Appreciate you saving me from myself ;-)
I am trying to install Cyanogenmod using the tutorial here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Magic_(32B):_Rooting and the device can never boot.
This is a MyTouch3g 32b that was previously running the original firmware. I was able to downgrade to firmware 1.5 and get Amon_Ra 1.7.0G installed fine.
I downloaded update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip and copied to the SDcard. I rebooted into recovery and wiped everything before installing that zip. Now it boots to the Cyanogenmod logo which spins for a while then freezes and repeats the whole thing again.
How should I proceed?
edit:
While trying to troubleshoot I found another page on the wiki that said I needed the updated radio so I installed 2.22.23.02 from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640535
It didn't change anything.

i'm having a similar issue. i'm trying to get cm6 on this phone for a friend. i rooted with super1click, flashed recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G and i can get into recovery fine. i made a nand backup, flashed cm6 and it won't boot. stuck at htc slash. i had to nand restore. do i need s-off to flash a rom or flash kernel thru fastboot or something? i have not changed the spl yet for lack of really knowing what i need to do. there is little info about whether i need to mess with that to flash cm6.

I am not Magic 32b's owner, but it seems like CM6 is not compatible with hboot 1.33.0013 / radio 2.22.28.25
Try to check compatible Rom (ex. gingeryoshi or something else). Look at Htc Dream Development forum. There are some actual Roms. Htc Dream and Magic 32b have same hardware level and custom Roms (but NOT official)
I am not advising change spl (hboot/radio combo), cause hboot 1.33.0013 or 1.33.0013d are last hboots for Magic 32b and developers make roms compatible with these hboots.

I wanted to get my magic S-OFF in order to flash a splash using fastboot, so I flashed to hboot 1.33.2010.
but now my phone is stuck at the bootscreen.
I want to revert my Hboot to it's stock, perfect SPL version but I can't find this anywhere. Most SPL's I find here are engineer versions with S-OFF.
additional information
after flashing spl:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2010 (SAPP10000)
recovery: recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G-cyan
before flasing this current spl it used to be:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPP10000)
and this is what I want to restore it to. can anyone tell how to and where I can get this perfect SPL to flash it with my current recovery?
OMG, how teach users to read moreeeeeee?
Why did you flash hboot if i adviced you to flash custom ROM via custom recovery in previous topic?
Do you know that hboot 1.33.2010 for Magic 32A in general?
If you don't want get a brick - write full 5 rows of SPL-info (not only version of hboot)
I'm reading as much as I can untill I get headaches
and I did flash a custom ROM through recovery. but I wanted to get a different splash cause I'm sick of that ugly vodafone version so I changed SPL to get S-OFF for fastboot flashing.
and no, I didn't know 2010 is 32A only, guess I found out the hard way. I got this one cause it mentioned a .28.25 radio version so I assumed it right for my 32B. So I guess I did read all neccesary stuff, but I misjudged the 2010 SPL by the noted radio version.

1. Configure Android SDK Tools to operate fastboot.exe (utility is in Platform-tools package)
2. Search for hboot 1.33.0013d (or 1.33.0013) and unpack it if it in archive (you need .img file)
3. If you already flashed Amon Ra 1.7.0 G skip this step, if not search for recovery (1.7.0 G is compatible with radio 2.22.28.25)
4. Cause you have engineering hboot, you can simply reflash to compatible hboot
Code:
fastboot flash hboot hboot.img
5. Run this command to reload
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
6. You can flash custom ROM via recovery now (turn phone off then turn on by pressing Home + Power)
tnx for the help so far

I flashed that SPL but I'm still stuck on bootscreen. I considered it being a faulty ROM after the SPL mess so I superwiped twice, wiped Dalvik-cache and reinstalled the Yoshi Froyo MM1 ROM, but the problem persists.

I'm able to perform all the steps you posted. Only I can't find the correct hbot.
the only one I found is a 1.33.0013b version wich has a 2.22.27.08 radio. And I don't think my current ROM is compatible with that radio. found the hboot here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
Does SDK platform-tools house SPL/hboot images? if so I can't find them.
a side not; I managed to change my splash screen (wich caused the whole mess ) Don't suppose that's causing the bootstuck problem?

Yes. This is right thread and it contains 1.33.0013d (as i adviced)
1.33.0013d is compatible with 2.22.27.08 and 2.22.28.25, so don't worry
About platform-tools - you need working fastboot.exe utility, to do flash
Your main problem is that you have hboot/radio mismatch. Even you on 1.33.2005 - you are not able to use Yoshi ROM.
Your goal:

These hboot and radio are fully compatible with Ginger Yoshi or ezGingerbread.
do you want me to specifically use fastboot to flash? I can use my custom recovery aswell, it still works like a charm.
I indeed want the SPL configuration you listed as my goal. Only the hboot I'm about the flash (1.33.0013d) will be with radio version 2.22.27.08.
are Yoshi ROM or stock ROM compatible with that radio? I made a nand backup of stock ROM just in case
[SOLVED]
end result:

HBOOT-1.33.0013d (SAPP10000)
RADIO-2.22.28.25
Oct 21 2009, 22:33:27
recovery: remained intact: Amon-RA v1.7.0G
ROM: Yoshi MOD MM1
First I flashed the radio, wich actually wasn't neccesary cause it remained the same. Then I flashed the hboot.
Good to know for other ppl, I flashed the images only, so not the zip. I flashed the hboot as last cause it disables fastboot flash method.
Then I booted to recovery, superwiped, factory reset-wipe, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik-cache, reboot to recovery and flashed Yoshi MOD.
al works good again. The best part is, I got my custom splash screen but I think there are more subtle methods to accomplish it. I guess you wouldn't want to get S-OFF unless is absolutely neccesary.
Tnx 5[strogino] for the help, I apreciate it.
