How to get widgets on pattern lock screen?

I know if you disable any security on the lock screen, you can put widgets on it by swiping left and right. The only problem is, when you enable pattern lock or pin or whatever, you cant get widget on the lock screen anymore.. WTF? I know the stock 4.2.2 can get it because my Nexus 7 is able to do it no problem.
Anyone know any tricks around this?

Just as the title asks. I must have looked through all of the settings five times and haven't found anything about changing lock screen shortcuts.

Do you mean the 4 at the bottom? They're whichever ones you set on the home screen.

Hello, quick tweek question:
I like the ZTE Locker feature with the random wallpapers. But, since the recent update, I notice a heart on the lock screen that pops up useless options for me when pressed. Is there a way to get rid of this completely (preferred), or change the options available when it';s pressed? Thanks for any info or suggestions!
