Should tell you what you need. I believe sideload wonder works only if you have installed the android sdk which you can just google and download it. Put the android sdk in the root of your c: drive of your computer. I think you need to place the sideload wonder in the tools section of the android sdk too. Afterwards, I had problems getting the phone to be recognized by my computer. I got mine to work by installing SEUS on my computer and preparing it for update. It will install the necessary drivers for your phone to work. (There is also an update for AT&T rom if you want to install it, but I haven't seen any difference after the update.)
FYI - I never got sideload wonder to work on my computer, but I did learn how to use the adb method of sideloading apps. Sideload wonder is just a "pretty" version of the adb method, so I would just learn how to do it via that way. You can check out this thread called adb for noobs.

PM me if you have any questions but replying on the first thread I posted will probably get you better results, but of course read up first!

Long story short, I was running Axura2.04, and I discovered I wasn't getting voice mail notification so I went to restore the phone to a backup rom I had made of the stock version using Clockwork Premium, and after it finished installing it got stuck on the Vibrant/Samsung screen.
I was unable to boot to recovery, and I now have the phone connected to my computer via USB and I got it into what appears to be download mode (there's a yellow triangle with a droid shoveling dirt) and I'm stuck.
I am on a mac and do not have access to a PC. Any advice on how to proceed?
(ps i am relatively new to all of this, I've only been at it for a a few weeks)
Thanks
If I'm screwed someone just tell me and I'll make a trip to the t-mobile store and bite the bullet.
Sounds like you need a kernel flash for a 2.1 Rom... try using odin if you can.

You're not screwed, but only providing you can either gain access to Windows somehow (for an Odin3 reflash) or are comfortable with using a command line tool similar to Odin3 that is available for the Mac, Heimdall.. Heimdall has no GUI..
Heimdall is available here..
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
The XDA thread on it is available here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
General instructions for flashing firmware via Odin3 can be found in various links that link from the Vibrant Bible thread at the top of the dev section.
Best of luck
Isn't there a PC emulater that you can get on your Mac? If you can get that then get Odin and the right files and flash back to stock. Do a search around here for Odin.

Thanks for help guys, I'm meeting up with a friend tonight who has the software for a PC emulator so I'm going to try running Odin from there
I'll keep you posted
Get heimdall, it works on mac

I worked with Thegreat520 and we got the phone up and running again using the methods outlined in the stickie above. I tried using Heimdall, but that's too far beyond me, I can't code to save my life, took college courses for it and even that couldn't save me.
That said we did find out that using a virtual machine on a mac doesn't work, it has something to do with how the computer recognizes the device, and there is another thread here somewhere in which someone else ran into the same problem.
Thanks for not flaming me guys, the ultimate mistake happened because I was restoring a backup of a ROM and didn't clear the cache or the user data before hand. Lesson learned the hardway.

Make sure you've got the Samsung USB Drivers installed
Make sure you check allow usb dev in settings
open up super one click
connect your phone and you should be good to go...you probably don't have the mobile drivers isntalled
Heres the 64 bit drivers
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
My PC is windows 7 64bit and kies works fine + windows 7 is brilliant for drivers. Try flashing using Odin with stock 2.2 can be found easily with detailed instructions, just Google it. Then try rooting from there. Wouldn't worry about warranty, your making your phone work better. Have fun.

try reinstalling kies then running the link I sent you, it should work fine. I'm running 64bit windows and everythings works great for me.
some instructions for rooting
if it is possible to update ur phone with kies try to find your phone version and flash the pda with odin
link:CF-root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
after that put the update.zip file on ur internal sd dont put it on external then im sure after u flashed it with that cf-root u can use do the 3 button trick just choose install update.zip on the menu apply it twice then u will have Clockwork mod now u can install any custom rom that u want
update.zip on attachment

Here's the question I have. If I completely uninstall everything, drivers, keis, etc. and then re-install Keis - I get thet MTP failed drivers error with windows.
So then I was told to install the Windows Samsung x64 bit drivers (which I do) -- but this doesn't work either.
Then I try to "reinstall drivers" from Keis - but this does nothing either.
Any and all combinations of the above has been tested and failed -- it just sits there "trying to connect" to device - but nothing ever happens, ever.
Keis is by far the stupidest program I've ever come across - how can it possibly not work right out of the box ? I have seem hundreds of people in my case - there is no excuse for such ****ty software.
Heres the thing - I want to flash, but I want to back up all my apps and stuff first, which I can't do without ROOT
Don't get me wrong, I'm going to flash away, but not until I back up all my apps - Titanium requires ROOT which is why I am here... i need to figure out a way to root so I can back up my stuff (i have like 160 apps I don't want to re-download)
Any ideas on how to back up apps WITHOUT needing to root ?

If you flash clockwork mod recovery or a kernel that incorporates it then you can backup and restore your apps in /data from there
Hope this helps!

Ok well forget using keis and just try flashing with Odin. Make sure keis isn't open when you do this though. You will have to put the phone in to download mode to flash it with Odin. Or if you don't want to mess about with Odin make sure USB debugging is off and try using the other USB setting like mass storage then it wont go through keis when you connect it. Hope this helps

Some people seem to have trouble with looking for info, so here it is, in noob friendly, convenient way.
There are basically four ways to restore our phone to usability, and usage somewhat depends upon how heavily is your system damaged
1. xRecovery
If our phone does not load the system (so we're stuck at SE logo on boot) and we have xRecovery, we can flash the last working backup. This is as clear as it can be, provided that you need to know something already to install xRecovery.
For those who don't know what it is: it's a boothack, which allows to backup and restore all the data stored on phone memory, install custom zips and do other cunning stuff
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878426 - here's how to install it, enjoy.
2. Flashtool
Flashtool is a software developed for Xperia X10, with later added functionality for our precious X8.
It comes in handy when two things happen: we cannot, for whatever reason, enter xRecovery and we don't want to/cannot use SEUS or PCC.
How to use?
1. Download latest version from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
2. Download ROM image, whichever you prefer:
X8 Shakira E15i_2.1.1.A.0.6_generic.ftf
X8_1.6_clear.ftf
X8_2.0.2_China.ftf
SE x8_2.1_rus.ftf
3. Download the baseband if you want to flash it (custom ROMs like miniCM or CM7 require baseband ending with "15" in order for app2sd to work):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976538
4. Place ftf file in /firmwares directory of your flashtool.
5. Install drivers from /drivers directory (if your antivirus doesn't like them, disable the antivirus )
6. Prepare yourself - plug the USB cable to the computer (NOT TO THE DEVICE YET) and launch flasher.
7. Click "flash", choose your ROM from the list, wait for instructions.
8. When the instruction pops up, press and hold "back" button on your X8 and plug the cable into it. Keep holding untill you see that flashing of files has begun, then you may release it.
9. Flashing will take a while, you may observe the progress on a bottom bar. When it's finished you will be asked to plug off your device and reboot it.
10. Tadam! It's functional again! Clean installation which you may screw up again
11. If you wish to change baseband, clean firmware directory in flashtool and place baseband ftf file in it, then go through flashing procedure again.
3. SEUS/PCC flashing
Most probably the most prototipical way to deal with it. PCC is PC Companion, soft that you obtain on your SD card along with your device, or you can download from SE website: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/pccompanion/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en
Once downloaded and installed, launch it. Most probably it will download some updates. Then choose device updating and follow the instructions. As for flashing - the procedure with holidng back button is the same as with flashtool.
As PCC is heavy and buggy, we are presented with an alternative - SEUS, the Sony Ericsson Update Service. You may download it here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup.../detailed/updateservice/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en
Once installed and launched, SEUS will start looking for updates. Let it take its time. After a while you will be presented with a board full of phones. Choose your Xperia from the list and continue. You will be asked to flash your phone, analogically as in flashtool in point 2. After flashing is done, SEUS will download the latest SE ROM available for your device and flash it.
ATTENTION
Flashtool, PCC and SEUS will cause loss of data such as contacts, stored messages, installed apps and so on. Anything that exists in phone memory will be erased.
Flashing a backup in xRecovery will cause similar data loss. However, it is possible to flash only system or only data backup in xRecovery. Some ROMs (like miniCM) are updated by update.zip which erases only /system folder, leaving personal data and installed apps intact.
However, you need to be able to enter xRecovery mode in order to use it, SEUS and flashtool do not require enabling the phone. PCC requires the phone to be turned on first in order to recognize it correctly, so it's more update-oriented.
Hope someone will benefit. If you see any mistakes, in spelling, grammar or content, let me know and I will correct it!
haha nice post...
i guess you bricked your phone too much today lol...and decided to write a guide...
really cool.
That is correct, and it took me some time to assamble all the things I needed, especially that SEUS was crashing on update And I really see nothing wrong in making threads that contain all the necessary info in one place, as long as it's mistakes free and helps anyone I've seen similar threads on polish android boards and they help a lot, both people who need such help and board stuff, who don't need to close/combine/delete multiple threads concerning the very same issue.
This is very helpful.. thanks Man..
Do i have to flash the baseband before the ROM?

Nope, you flash ROM first, then then you may change baseband. I'll add this info to the first post

Okay thanks, but is it safe when changing the baseband? I read from the other thread about somekind of lost signal issue?
Sorry i'm a little bit noob about this stuff.
If you open the thread with basebands and the online directory with basebands and kernels you will see that there are files for E15 mobile phone divided into two kinds - E15i and E15a. i is for Europe, a is for USA. If you flash wrong files - 3G won't work.
Or at least that's how I understand that issue
thanks man,,,i bricked my phone.. need this

Awsome man, evreything about how to repair bricked phone in on place. This is what I loking for just in case if my phone gone bricked ^^
i bricked my x8, when i turn it on, it shows a cellphone icon with an exclamation point. can this be fixed by SEUS? the screen dimmed, is this a total brick?
wow, maybe yes that is a "full" brick. hmm, just try to use flashtool method, that is the last recovery attempt for a bricked x8
- I have a r800i on 2.3.2 rooted and some bloatware removed.
- My goal is to update to 2.3.3 (which i am having problems).
- I dont care if i lose root access or not.
1) I tried an OTA update but after downloading everything, the phone rebooted and simply displayed a message "Cant update".
2) Then i tried flashing to a uk generic firmware following the instructions from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
However when i try to flash i get told to turn the phone off, turn it back on holding the back button. However this doesnt work as i get an error message telling me to install the correct s1boot driver.
3) Then i tried downloading PC Companion and updating this way. When i am in mass storage mode the installed proceeds to update, but then it tells me to go into media storage mode, at which point the software fails to recognised my phone and stops the update.
I cant update to 2.3.3 at this point and dont know how to proceed.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Found solution -
I found the best way to overide all settings, root, PC Companion etc and just get a complete fresh 2.3.3 install.
SE provide the tools for this here -
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...etailed/updateservice/xperia-play?cc=gb&lc=en
It provides a direct way to update your phone and reset to factoy settings if you wish. Also installs all bloatware etc too btw.
You do lose root access though, but not your user settings (unless you want a factory reset).
I doubt i will bother to root the phone for a while, not much benefit imho. Hopefully the dev scene isnt dead for the Play and we will have some proper custom roms released soon.
Hi,
Even if you are 2.3.3 now.
Use the latest version of flash tool. Open the drivers folder and install the only executable there. Download 2.3.2 UK generic .184. Save it to the firmwares folder.
Click root, unplug usb, press and hold back button, reinsert the usb.
When it starts flashing remove hold on back button.
Then gingerbreak. Then update your apn setting. (can useally be sent by your provder from their website) Then over the air update. Job done.

Im going to leave it unrooted for a while, phone runs great with 2.3.3 for me even with bloatware.
Ill root and upgrade to custom rom when and if there is a decent release.
Just wanted to say thanks for the instructions though.
Do you have an unlocked bootloader? If so NEVER do an ota update, it has bricked quite some phones!

No. Thanks for pointing this out though. My first and only root was done with gingerbreak.
I had a similar problem in W7 - turns out I had to download the SE Update utility (NOT the PC Companion Utility) and install it. Then, once I set my phone into update mode (hold Back button and plug in USB cable) it properly installed the drivers.
Once I'd done that, I could then use Flashtool to flash the UK firmware to my Canadian Rogers Xperia.
So if you plug in and have the green light, but get a driver error from windows, try finding the update utility on the Sony Ericsson website and installing it. Good luck!
