HTC EVO 4G: 45 hours battery life (VIDEO) - EVO 4G General

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S2KFKF1u1c
8-9 hours of standby, heavy texting, moderate web browsing, 1 hour of Sprint 4G Hotspot, 30 mins of Google Navigator, no movies, no games, gps & bluetooth off (only when needed)
ADW Launcher, unrooted & using task killer

and 0 time using it as an actual phone?
If I shut everything off on my phone and only use it for texting, I bet I can get some pretty sick times out of it too.
Automated task killers are still bad. I strongly suggest people don't run them.

That video is a waste. Instead of recording the results, which can be taken as a picture, why didn't you record your settings. Smartass!

i made this video to show that the battery life for the EVO is quite good! and that anyone can photoshop a screenshot! i dont really make calls, id say about 30 minutes of total talk time during this time period.. i use msn talk and do a lot of texting for communication.. thank you!

battery life time

Hi!
Can anyone tell me his expiriences with the battery? How often must you recharge with which use? (active sync on, how much calls, and so on)
Thanks a lot
Stefan
I don´t think there is a perfect answer.
I use Gmail as Email, every 5min checkup, still play a lot every day, tapping the screen, quite a lot phonecalls (I have a flatrate), use wifi, setup of programs, navigation in car without charging, etc etc, and still at the end of the day there is energy left.
So... quite ok.
I would say:
1 day power use (lots of wifi, games, calls, playing with settings and installing programs, GPS)
3 days moderate use (few calls, calendar, few minutes of wifi to download RSS, few SMS)
5 days without use (few calls, standby most of the time)
Enough for me!
Note: I usually switch off GSM module for night.
agreed! much better already than my former m600i ;-)
thx
Thanks guys, that's the information I want do know......
So it will be much better than my actuall Hermes....
cu
Stefan
IMO,
This seems the best HTC model lasting longest with battery power.
1 Day with Messenger always open. Moderate chat usage. Some Opera..
1,5 Days with normal use.
2 Days with few use.
I never achieved 3 days
For me, it's usually 3-3.5 days of moderate usage (SMS, few calls, few minutes WiFi)...

Battery Life

Ok thought the battery life on my HD2 was pretty awful (always charged it all night) but for some unknown reason a couple of days ago I decided to switch off all data updates (twitter, email download set to every 2 hours instead of 30mins, stock updates, rss hub) still have facebook & weather apps downloading as normal. I now kill any program once I've finished using it.
Doing all this has dramatically increased battery life, am now on 71% after unplugging it yesterday around 1PM so that's best part of 22 hours. During which have made/received a few calls sent 10+ texts, downloaded 50+ emails, manually updated rss feeds 10 times, played about with IMDB app for 30 mins, played 45 mins on poker, done a full virus scan & database update (31mins), run a level 3 ram clean, browsed the web.... probably spent about 2-3 hours on it solid and the battery is only down just over 1/4 - would have pretty much been out of juice before!
All I have to do is click the update now soft key every time I want a data feed refreshed, no biggie I reckon.
my battery is awsome too.. using it every day for phone calls and many many sms, surfing everyday with opera when im in train / bus to work or school.
i dont use it for music, so dont know how much battery that would cost, also i dont have any things updating in the background like the weather or facebook or whatever, im doing that manually..
fact, my battery can hold 2 days, maybe even 3. but what kills the battery is when i play games.. 15mins of morphgear games and my battery has 10% less omg
but yea.. rarely playing games with it, so i got my hd2 lasts 2 days

For those who say....

Light to med usage or med t heavy usage.......care to explain what that entails?
sent from my epic 4g with no 4g
For me using stock OS and not rooted:
Settings
Autosync on
Wifi on 95% of the time and policy set to never drop
Brightness set to auto
DRM process killed
All syncing applications set to 1 hour or greater, except Gmail.
Light usage = no web browsing, very few phone calls (5 mins or less), 0 - 20 txts, staying off the market, and no or limited game playing.
Medium usage = a few phone calls (no longer than 10mins each), 0 - 50 txts, sporadic market downloading/searching, checking Gmail and Facebook occasionally and getting down with some Angry Birds and World War (games).
Heavy usage = no limit to phone calls, my phone blowing up with txts, browsing the web more than 5 times, using the Facebook app a bunch and cracking out on some games.
I find it strange that I finally upgraded to a smart phone and now I hardly get phone calls. I at least put a hurting on my bandwidth usage, ha ha.
To me light usage would be if I were at work for an 8 hour period where I wouldn't touch my phone except maybe on break or to check an email or two.
Medium would be if I were web browsing texting and a few phone calls here and there.
Heavy would be sitting at home on a day off playing Galcon, fruit Ninja, web browsing, Ap downloading ect.
I do heavy usage use about 2 and a half batteries a day. This is what I got
Brightness 100%
About 3 hours of pandora
3 hours music player
Total maybe 2 hours webbrowsing
Live wallpaper and widgets on homescreen.
Use xda app a lot througout day
Play angry birds and homerun battle 3d for like 2 hours.
Youtube 30min
Like 50 texts
2 or 3 calls
Sent from my Epic 4G
I'm heavy usage, 5-10 phone calls abou 10 mins each, at least 100 texts a day, wireless hotspot with 4g. Social apps update at 1hr intervals though I'm constantly having to get on every 30 minutes or so. Music player on all the time. Gmail updates constantly. It's mostly a personal phone, but I've been doing a lot of work related activities with it. Lasting about 6-8 hours. Brightness set at min. Drms removed. I'm well over 5gigs for data. Lol
When I was all stock... I would be happy if I was even getting a couple hours of battery life.

Awesom Battery life X10. Post yours too!

For Battery improvements I did the following. Please point out if there are any improvements left undone by me.
1.Display set to 4% brightness using Battery booster app.
2.Screen time out 15 sec/30 sec depending on activity.
3.All auto-sync disables (i dont need them currently)
4.Network mode set to GSM only (disabled edge using wifi)
5.killing unused tasks couple of times.
cell standby(GSM) -33% - 1day 9 hr 10 min
display - 29% - 3 hr 40m
phone idle - 25% - 1 day 5 h 26m
wi-fi - 7% - 2h 6m
android system - 3%
voice calls -0.xx % - 4min
total up time 33 hours 10 mins during this session + previous day uptime 5 hours = Total 38 Hours up time
with 22% battery left
(did normal usage like websurfing few pages on wifi, installed 5-8 apps from the market, few mins of gaming , few mins of youtube , some 150 text messages, few Video playbacks for 10 min )
I'm really enjoying this awesom device from SE.
Previously been a victim of Nokia's cheap strategies and products , a couple of times but now i feel like i'm back to heaven with this device. Thank God!
3 days 23 hours to date best, without all the jiggery pokery
any custom roms out there that give a massive boost to battery and performance?
I suppose long standby battery life is pretty cool but it is a smartphone and personally, very impressed with thy battery life on my x10 with what I consider heavy usage;
Autosync on all the time with my Google account so I never lose my contacts and calendar ever again
3g also always on but when I get home from work until next morning WiFi on, that's about 12hrs
Auto brightness on, using tasker for automated 100% brightness on videos and games
K9mail for push email - receive and read about 10 to 15 of them a day
1 to 2 hours of web surfing
Half an hour of music
Above usage lasts me about 16~20hrs and about 15~20% battery life left, how's that?
x10 a+root+jit
I consider myself a pretty heavy user, not sure how long my battery would last as it is charged overnight.
It comes off charge at 7am and will last until 9pm with usually around 25% remaining.
Tbh I don't put much effort into conserving battery since 2.1, it is already fine. The only change I make is nothing updates automatically, I do it when I need it done.

6. uninstall moxior using titanuim backup.
7.disable time scape.
8.don't use Live Wallpaper (Use regular wallpaper).
9. use real player or vplayer instead of media scape.
then you can go up to 2 days with normal use.
and with (Games - GPS - wifi - media) ... around 14 hours.
the X10 has awesome battry but the poor programmed apps and high graphical use apps kills it.
If you guys are so worried about battery life why did you get a smartphone
If you have to turn off all its features just to get it to last longer I don't see the point of owning a smartphone... just saying
As long as it lasts me through a day with everything running so that I can charge it when I get back home I'm fine... and it does that
Even using live wall papers I receive a solid ass two days with WiFi and GPS/location services fully enabled (I have a 6 gig data plan and try killing it as much as possible lol). I use it pretty heavily too. A few hours of straight internet radio or on board music, watch some videos over VLC, lots of browsing and tons of texting throughout the day.
I do kill tasks if I've run a ****load of programs and have a few suspect ones that may drain the battery before I put my phone away for a few hours. But lately I've not killed tasks and it's almost exactly the same to my surprise. Last charge might have even been longer despite not killing tasks too!
I use Titanium to uninstall all the useless crap and have JIT enabled.

Why should anyone uninstall Moxier? In my tests I've seen that if I don't configure it, it will not impact on battery life.
However, I'm running with GMail and Moxier both in push mode on 3G network and I get about 36 hours.
I've uninstalled moxier, not to save battery but to save memory, and improve boot time..

i don't use it and it keeps auto-lunch it self so that's annoying .
anyway i delete the unused apps to increase space and speed in general.
i use smart phones for movies , games and GPS . most of the time so the battry life is too much important to me. i didn't active the 3G internet in my smartphone it costs alot.

What ROM are you using ? ... What are the other settings and apps you have been using to get that statistics ? ... anyone tried underclocking the CPU ?? ...
i don't recomend downclocking the CPU.
it makes the x10 too slow and laggy.
after 15 Hours.. down to 56%.. would get 2 full days out of this.. (I usually put it into flight mode at bed time). Wifi set to always on..

Being able to undervolt the processor would be awesome. It's a common practice in the laptop world, and a must do if you plan on using the laptop a lot relying on the battery only.
My solution to all this! Just charge it every night, so you don't have to worry about having juice the next day when you are out and about...

Only 4.5 h screen on ..

Is that normal that I have only 4h30 screen on when using my phone only for texting and like 1h of internet browsing .. Plus 10 minutes of clash of clan .. Nothing more ..
I'm very skeptical about my battery life because I see that everyone having more than me with more heavy usage..
I installed wake lock detector and the top one is 1013 ( audio mix ) and the second one is android system which is audio mix too .. Don't understand why I have so " poor " battery life ..
PS : location and sync are off all the time !

It's not typical of course. That is obvious when you compare your time to the vast majority of other posts. You are clearly on the short end. But not unheard of either.
Why is impossible to discern since you haven't provided many details. 4.5 hours of screen time.. but how much time overall? How much connection time to Wifi and a lot of other things? Detailed battery stats showing how much time various apps and services are on would offer hints. If your net and texting are LTE connections and you have a few piggish apps, there you go.
You may have GPS off, but audio apps can be heavy draws because music play will spin hundreds or thousands of wakelocks. Some players are worse than others. But you didn't tell us which ones you are using or how much music play either. Some apps like Tunein can be abysmal. Apps that constantly poll the net like Google Now or poll the camera like Skype can put dents in your run time.
Perhaps you have a bad, damaged or third party battery. And so on and so forth. We don't have nearly enough details. All we can say for certain is that you appear to have a very short run time. But that wouldn't be at all unexpected if half of a dozen of your heavily used apps tend to be heavy draws. If you debloated your system, optimized a few things and made some tweaks, you might well find that your run time increased 50%.

Yeah you're right, i'll try to give more information,
for now all i can give it's that i'm on 3G/2G (no LTE) because i'm a Train driver and i travel a lot.. I plug off the phone from the charger at 9AM and at 9pm i have like 15-20% left.. with ~ 4.5 screen on
I'm not using music player because i'm listening music with my ipod. Google Now desactivated, Skype not installed, Facebook not installed too !
Location off and sync off all the time.. Wifi off too
All i do between 9Am and 9pm it's approximativly 300 text (sms) 50 whatsapp messages, 10 - 15 minutes of Clash of clan, maybe 1 or 2 Snapchat and like 1hour of internet browsing.. Essentialy News website..
That's a normal day for me ! Sometimes i might take 2-3 picture of place i like.. And maybe play an other game to pass the free time (but that wasn't included yesterday report and that's occasionally)
I'll try to take some screenshot of BBS and battery info today or maybe tomorrow to give a better report
Thanks for helping guys
Thanks for the details. That actually doesn't sound that bad.. after 12 hours of run time, you've got 15 - 20% left. The 4.5 hours of screen time is misleading.. giving a vague impression that your battery only lasts ~ 5 hours.
But actually, it's been on 12 hours.. with enough battery remaining to run several more hours so.. your overall run time is something like 15 hours, during which you sent 300 SMS, 50 miscellaneous messages, some Snapchats, 15 min of gaming, an hour on the net and 4.5 hours screen on. Nothing wrong with that at all. If you happened to use your apps differently you could easily see 7 or 8 hours screen on while more or less doing what you currently do. It's just that your usage happens to involve less screen time.
If I missed something, perhaps you could narrow down or elaborate about your concerns? Is there some use that you want to do during your workday that you don't feel you can?. But it you were just concerned that 4.5 hours didn't sound that good.. I don't think that is anything to worry about. Your overall usage when you explained at length sounds perfectly normal to me. If you want to aim for a straight number, you could tweak your phone, use inverted apps, etc and etc and gain another 3 - 4 hours screen or run time.. but to what end? Your current usage takes you through your workday with 20% remaining.. I'd say mission accomplished.
