FM radio reception

Hello my fellows
Anyone notice that their HD2 FM radio reception is incredibly poor.
I use FM radio all the time, listen to 94.6 Cool Fm and 93.5 Radio 4 - Lol strange combination!
I have resigned my self to keeping my N95 8Gb with me now, it gives me twice as many stations as my HD2 I am testing now - 8th floor in a building on fleet st Ec4 so I am rigjht in the mix here - should get best reception for everything!
I tune in to cool FM on N95 and flawless - tune in on HD2 - I dont get the station
I really thought that I would be able to FINALLY leave my little Nok Nok at home.
No such luck yet
the HD2 just simply is unable to pick up stations that the N95 picks up clearly.
I have T-mobile Uk ~HD2 with N-R-G rom on it (not the new new one the one from before...)
Anyone got any ideas? I am loath to go up to the newest radio as I am jhearing mixed responses.......
Is there anyway to increase the pre amp on the FM radio? OR something?
Help?
!
Regards
Jordan
Funnily enough, I was just thinking this on the dogwalk this AM. I seem to remember it being able to pick up & hold stations with the older ROM though...I'm on 1.66 unbranded UK now but I'm sure it was better on the old one - could be all in my head but just seemed that way.

Agree. The older stock ROM has WAY better FM receiver. HTC's techy need to sort this out.

Lololol - North London Geeza! Not Ireland.
I cant imagine that a Northern Ireland Cool FM has quite the same clout as ours - which put Drum and Bass on the map for me and all my mates when we were 16

So I guess the option is to revert to old ROM>
Even though I lost multi pinchy zoomy stuff. I like N-R-G rom
No way to extract the files and install on newer ones?
Maybe I email N-R-G?
Seems like going forward to a new radio rom is only going to make this worse!
Hi, just to add, i do have BSB Tweaks 1.6 onboard & the settings don't appear to make any difference...

HD2 with At&t US

Hi, i have a HD2 unlucked using it with AT&T US. the signal is quite bad, i dont have 3g at all, ive realised the bands dont match up but is there any way to increase signal strength or something. The signal is ridiculous at times where i have no signal at all in my house.
try different radio

Unless you bought a T9193 (look below the battery cover, is there a "Next G" or "T"?), you won't get 3G.
You might have luck playing with different radios to see if you get better coverage. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713977 for more info. If you have a TMobile HD2, then you might want to check the other HD2 forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=631
If you have any questions, read up on the Q&A forum either way.
thats why I was asking about best/latest Radio Version for AT&T. Is your Radio Version the same as mine, identified in earlier post about AT&T Radio Version?
I have at&t (but I am using a t9193), I am having good results battery & signal w/ radio 2.12.50.02_2 (link in my sig)
what exactly do i do with these radio roms?
sorry im new to this whole thing and dont know alot. thanks

HSPL from here
grab a radio file from here
follow the steps here
Non-U.S. HD2 are not compatible with TMOUS 3G regardless of the radio Rom being used. A more current ROM may provide a better basic 2G/GPRS signal.

[THINKTANK] FM Radio from I9000

Would it possible if the FM Radio app from the int galaxy s was ported to the vibrant? Is there issues with the Vibrant's radio that make it incompatible? I see it as replacing a factory radio in a car with an aftermarket one with more features but does the same thing

There is already a thread on this somewhere here. I believe the consensus was that the Vibrant doesn't have the hardware for the FM radio.
ok my mistake

Was that completely confirmed that the hardware is absent from the unit?
I know the camera is, but perhaps this was something that could have not been left out of the PCB footprint/components???
Just playing devil's advocate.
Im pretty sure that it has already been confirmed that the Vibrant does have the FM reciever AND the FM transmitter hardware.
well one of you guys are wrong. which one
lol, seriously
I love how they both have that authoritative tone.
LOL
If from what everyone is saying around the net. That the GPS chip that's in the samsung vibrant, is the broadcom Incontrol 20751. Then not only it has a FM receiver, but there's also a FM transmitter there as well.

so in plain english, whats an advantage of having an FM transmitter. i can start my own late night talk show or something?
Well with a transmitter you can transmit your GPS voice, or phone call to your cars radio through fm.
The way it's been working for me it should be named the Broadcom outtacontrol...
Just pushed the i9000 fm radio app to my vibrant, it doesnt work. Keeps saying to turn on fm radio and ear phones are not plugged in. If we have the hardware, it would be a good assumption we would need drivers loaded in the kernal for it to work.
Unfortunately you are correct, do not expect this to work automagically. Just as the N1 has a FM radio that is no enabled, has to be made to work. FM transmitter is awesome tho'! Great when the devs get it goin'.

I've pushed the app and libs, and got nothing. It's going to be a kernal issue at this point. Once we have a custom kernal with the fm radio module enabled, we'll golden.

LOL, sorry, forgot to mention it kept telling me to plug in my headphone when they were already plugged in.
I have a Captivate and have also pushed the FMRadio.apk to the device.
EVerything runs great - except when one tries to play a station - then an error is received: "Unable to turn on FM Radio"
I have spoken to a dev or two and they are not convinced that the hardware is the same on our devices. It appears from this post:
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7057871&postcount=18
Edit: The person who made the above post works for Broadcom so this chip: InCrystal 20751 should be the same as the BroadCom20751. And, it is in (at least) the I9000's.
Anyway, the nomenclature on the I9000 is: SWB-B23 which is just the print on the protective metal cover.
Bottom line: First - we need to definitively know that the same GPS/FM/BT chip is in the US variants as is in the I9000. *Anyone willing to pull apart their device to see what the cover says If it has the same nomenclature then we'll know. Secondly, until we can get the Captivate's (or, Vibrant's for the T-Mobile users) kernel so we can look around inside and modify it (ie: add the drivers from the I9000 kernel) - we probably won't get the radio working. This is because currently everyone is having to use the Captivate/Vibrant specific kernels to have a working phone one their carrier.
Yes, some are using the new froyo release made for the I9000 on the Captivate/Vibrants - however, they are flashing the Captivate/Vibrant kernels on afterwards - that is why they are not seeing the same performance increase as the I9000 counterparts - and, since many of the drivers are included in the KERNEL that is my suspicion as to why they also don't have a working FM Radio.
The only possible solution I have heard of is "cross-flashing" the kernels - whatever that is... Or, trying to find a way to add in the drivers after the device has been flashed and is working...
Wish I knew how to pull apart the binary kernel/boot.img and put it back together. But, it seems Koush made a post on another thread that the Captivate kernel isn't unpacking without corruption. I'll try to find his post and update this later today.

This is all exciting news.
I was pretty sure that the chip in the PCB footprint should be the Broadcomm with FM TX/RX capability.
/me crosses fingers for a Vibrant "PIRATE_RADIO.APK"
if you dial in the service menu *#*#197328640#*#*
then go to:
[6] Common
[7] Factory Test
option [8] FM Radio - only one thing is listed and it reads
"Current Command is 6788"
it's built into the kernel so the ability is there, just a matter of finding whats missing between the i9000 and t959 roms

FM Radio

i read the epic has an fm radio will it be activated with 2.2?
i would like to know this too...i just read it had one yesterday when i was on GSM arena...would there be anyway to get it to work on our own?
Some of the folks at SDX have been working on this since the Epic was launched. You can follow their progress here.

So awesome thx!!

[Q] MyTouch 4G Radios

I've been reading a bunch and I'm kinda curious about the radio (baseband) firmware on the MyTouch 4G--or on Android phones in general if they aren't device-specific. Can anyone provide some good resources on the subject? What do they do, how do they work, and so forth?
Additionally, are there other radios that work on the MyTouch 4G? If so, how do they differ and what benefits do some have over others? How does someone flash a new radio to the device?
This should be moved to Q&A if it hasn't already.
Sent from my rooted HTC Glacier using XDA app
i'm under the impression that you came from a WM phone cause i know on my TP1 and VX6800 you could interchangably use verizon and sprint and some other radio roms. though this thought has perplexed me as i havent seen any info on radios on the MT4G. i guess i'll sub this and see what happens
Radios are indeed device specific, in some cases OS specific. Attempting to flash to a random radio off another device will almost certainly net you a brick. You should only use radios made for the MT4G and the version that the rom you have chosen recommends.
I wasn't even aware there was a new radio version out for the MT4G?
A radio is flashed the same way as a rom, just boot into recovery and flash the update.zip.
I'm not sure how to fully explain what the radio firmware actually does, but I know its not something to tinker with.

UPDATE: For god sake its still out.
Anyways radio normally controls your wireless interface gps, voice, data, wifi, bluetooth ect. Along with power and other memory functions whichs as stated you mingle with you will certainly brick it. Far as radio rom goes I too when first came here was looking for master radio thread as only radio I found is the stock one so not much dev going there.
It seems like, in case of newer HTC phones (such as G2 and MT4G), radio firmware also controls emmc read/write capablities of the chip (don't quote me on that) so most definitely NOT a good idea to tinker with it.

Errr, has any Android developer ever modified a radio image before? As far back as G1 days I cannot remember any of them touching this. I do know some find leaked new ones or ones from different countries and posting them, but not modified.
Switching radio images is not recommended as it, along with your SPL (bootloader) are the 2 images that can brick your phone. Most people will NOT flash their radio unless its a huge improvement to your phone.
Thanks for the responses fellas. I don't plan to screw around with the radio on my phone, it just seemed like there wasn't much information available about the topic in general, and I'm genuinely interested in knowing how stuff works. Any resources or links on the subject are appreciated.
