Does anyone know if its possible to load stock Froyo on Nexus S via clockwork Recovery? Am I correct in assuming any Galaxy S ROM should work?
Need to do some benchmarking...

I don't believe you're not going to be able to do that. There are enough differences between the Galaxy S devices alone that it is difficult to mix them, and there are even more differences between a Galaxy S and the Nexus S. You are probably going to end up with a brick if you go any further.
That said, if someone were to try and back port the drivers and whatnot, it might be possible, but it is probably easier bringing the Galaxy S devices forward to 2.3.
Chin is right, don't do this to yourself. None of the SGS series phones can have ROMs ported between them without alteration.
You need a ROM that is compatible with the hardware and has the proper drivers. So you would have to make your own custom Froyo stock ROM. None are compatible at the moment.

I've run this on my galaxy nexus before and its amazing. Was looking through supported devices and see the a500 is supported. Anyone try this? I wonder if I can just go ahead and flash or what. Obviously this takes it too ICS so I don't know about bootloaders.

Flashed it yesterday. You need to be on ics bootloader or flash the boot.img found in the cm9 thread directly after flashing the rom. Haven't had any stability issues and its pretty fast but there are still some bugs with some of the rom control options.

So I've cwm running ics rom lightspeed 4.3. How can I install this?
Hello all,
This in in regards to the new uk 4.0.4. I followed the guide here from scaryshark and I was using Mobile Odin lite that doesn't have the wipe options. I am doing the install on the canadian p7510 wifi and I was going to do the wipes after the fact as suggested later in that thread. After I did the install and rebooted my tablet it did the "Android is updating" thing and it worked perfectly and I have ICS and all of my stuff, apps and settings and everything seems fine. I just thought I'd let people know. I had to post here as I don't have enough posts to post in that thread I mentioned. Thanks
Did anyone get this to work the same as I did?
I just did it. All worked good, but I lost root. Oh well I'll manage...

No matter what root will be lost. I've tried it with both the 7500 and 7510 firmware and the non-wipe update method works great. So why is everyone saying do it with wipes (Outside of coming from anything other then stock HC I mean)?
Actually, I was on stock HC and used mobile Odin for upgrade (I was anxious). In any case it's better if you wipe because there are less chances of encountering a problem. That said, I rooted the tab and set it up the way I want it. I use apex launcher and I have to say that this thing is FAST!

not only number is changed. I'm using custom Paranoid ROM on my Galaxy tab 7.7. It has better performance and looks nicer ) User interface veery smoth
well, i must admit that the software experience improved a lot (its a huge improvement) from honeycomb to ics.
i dont think that it will be the same from ics to JB, or the 4.1.2

If 7.7 doesn't get the JB update from Samsung I will sell my tab and gets an Ipad.:victory:

Well, FWIW ICS to JB (4.1.2 or 4.2.2) on my other tabs makes a marked improvement in the overall speed and fluidity of the tabs. Whether or not the same will hold true when (or if) the 7.7 gets stock 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 remains to be seen.
is there anyone of you that still uses stock firmware like me? tried PA but have to revert back to stock ics despite the brick bug danger
If you mean stock as in from samsung, yes, I have it on my tab but I am using a different launcher though to speed things up.

The "BrickBug" has had me spooked also. But, after reading as much as I could from other sources, flashing CWM alleviates that issue. That said I still would shy away from Factory Reset from ICS nevertheless. Or proceed with caution.
Granted I could be wrong but am always on the lookout for a definitive "fix".

so true..but i still encountered some soft bricks randomly when many apps were installed..for instance when i used the offline feature of Google Currents..my tab won't flash via odin so i have to reset using cwm many times..
do you think the new jelly bean firmware is free from brick bug?

One hopes so. But I'll always include CWM/kernel substitution. I'll deal with soft brick any day of the week compared to hard brick. Even jtag has failed for some.

Me too I use a stock firmware or if I use a custom firmware, I always replace the custom "safe kernel" with the stock kernel from Samsung.
Sorry to repeat it again, but I never got any issues with Samsung stock kernel whether with my G-Note or my GT P6800.
The sole time I got a brickbug was with a custom firmware on my G-Note as I forgot to replace the custom "safe kernel (from PhilZ)" with a Samsung stock one... ^^
Once my G-Note got repaired, I reflashed it with the same ICS custom firmware but that time with a stock kernel and I never got brickbug again, despite numerous Factory Resets.
My G-Note has now a completely stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 from Samsung and so far so good no issue at all !!!
My GT P6800 is still with a stock ICS 4.0.4 from Samsung and I don't plan to use any custom firmware since it works fine with a very good battery life time.
The only change I made both on my G-Note or P6800 was to root them.

Pretty close to the same here. Am under the distinct impression that rooting and using CWM also offers as much "protection" from brickbug as can be had at the moment. Running LQ1 right now but was considering flashing LQ2. Looking for a bit better battery.
Been following daniel_hk in the Android section. His work on the JB CM10.1 looks very very promising! Check it out!
Arobase40 said:
Sorry for daniel_hk or any other Cyanogen devs I'm not willing to flash any Cyanogen ROM as I want to keep compatibility with all stock Touchwiz apps and features, and more importantly I don't want to mess up my GT 7.7 as I don't plan to change it for another device as long as it suffices my needs.

I 100% agree with you, CM might be the latest and greatest of all Roms but in my opinion if all the features are not working as they should why should I even bother. I know it's a choice whether to install or not and I appreciate what the CM devs have done for our community but I just don't like how they have approached our tab, if you are not going to have a 100% working rom then don't put it out there.:banghead: Sorry for my little rant. I am just patiently waiting for JB if it ever comes out if not I am quite happy with ICS.

I'm a nexus purist. Nexus one. Galaxy nexus. Then now a 4 and a 7.
Getting an s4 from my carrier for free but I just want a nexus. Can i flash it to a completely stick Google edition that will get OTA updates like the ones from the play store? I don't even root my phone anymore. Just want to flash.. Leave it at that. No sense in getting and paying for a Google edition s4 since I'm getting one for free.
Thanks.

You should be able to flash the one from the thread below which is the latest 4.3 (4.2.2 is also available). Regarding the OTA updates, I'm not 100% sure to be honest, but I've seen some user reports saying they received the OTA (4.22>4.3) and it worked, but as its essentially a custom ROM, I would wait until the developer provides a flashable update.
I think having the standard S4 is the best option, as you're not shelling out for a GE device for a start. You have an S4 with Samsungs goodies (love or hate them) on it and you also have the option of flashing the stock GE ROM, which is about as close to Nexus as a non-nexus can get. Personally I have my N7 with stock android goodness and I'm also enjoying the S4 (rooted) as is. I downloaded the 4.2.2 GE Rom but just held off as 4.3 was around the corner and I've just been enjoying playing with all of the features on the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348272
It's either I'll flash it.. If completely stock Google edition is possible. Or I'll just sell it and keep my 4. Or just maybe live with a standard s4 for a year or two.
So the ROMs for the s4 are modified so it can be flashed to a standard s4?

Oh that link you posted says it won't get OTA. Bummer.

You're best off waiting for a ported stock version of GE for the i9505 and just flashing it. Leave it unrooted.
If you're going to the trouble of modifying it for ota updates you may aswell return here once in a while to update it via a flash. I understand why you want to do that but with an i9505 you'll always have that choice of tw/aosp/GE etc.
