San Antonio, TX. - EVO 4G General

Hey guys..
Anyone here in the San Antonio area? Looking to shell out some cash for someone to trick out my phone (and maybe learn me some of this stuff) Thanks...
Sent from my completely stock EVO 'cause XDA lingo is Greek to me..

i live in san antonio, but i'm not gonna accept money for stuff that is free. just read the development, general, and questions forum. you'll eventually learn. i did!

Same here. I live in san antonio but wouldn't charge. Just look around every thing you need is on the forum. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'm a noob to this also. It just takes time to learn.

Not in SA but in Del Rio, as the other guys said read and learn. If you want to Hack and customize your android it is best to do it yourself, you learn alot and it is FUN. It is pretty straightforward and there are excellent tutorials on this site. If you have a specific question ask. Also tutorials on Youtube are great as well.

Hmm.. see I can appreciate that but I'm more the see and learn type.. I can tear down a motor to a bare block and rebuild it and learned by watching... just reading how to's ensures a screw up by me no doubt..
So if any of you change your mind lemme know.. quick hundred bucks or whatever just to teach a complete noob how to make sense of all this stuff..

totally forgot. Read those too! Those are great threads to read before posting up any questions, if you run into any trouble, etc.
One more thing...read and read and read and read. You have an expensive phone...all the info you need is here...but do yourself a favor and read for a few days so you understand what you are doing. That will limit your questions and headaches…
There are very helpful people in theses forums and they are more likely to help you after you have you have tried to help your self.

Congratulations on breaking free. Just one piece of advice in addition to the links others already posted - to make your life on these boards more pleasant, use the search before posting questions. There's a good chance the info is already available.
Thank you .
Im reading all this through the app so kind of.hard to read it all bearly getting used to the phone too thanks tho and I will start reading .

Welcome
Like all ....welcome the above posts have provided links, remember a couple of things, Go slow at first before changing up the phone... get used to the phone. Look at the apps here and on the android market
Look at the development section in the Vibrant forum and read alot of the posting and links about the custom ROMs. The people who made them are superior to the service provider developers.
Once you are comfortable with your background/reference education then, start modifying the phone. You are going to find this is SUCH a good phone to customize, and way user friendly than others I have used in the past. Good luck, and welcome
Welcome +1!
We're here to help as long as the question hasn't been posted 15x10^n times =) Reading is integral to learning more about your phone. Peek into the dev forum but don't post any questions in there unless directly related to a ROM you've flashed (and even then search the thread for your answer [there's a search thread button at the top of the page]).
There are many good people on the forum even when the get short tempered due to "failure to read" syndrome.
Congratulations on a wise purchase, your phone is only going to get better (we've got some great devs ).

Hello, I'm a noob to rooting, but figured I'd slip in a hello, I barely got my Evo 4G rooted with Revolutionary since going to 2.3. I used to do a lot of iPhone jail breaking and figured this would be the same....I'm learning that it's not...still not sure what a kernel really is hah, anyway, yeah. Hello.

I was getting ready to post a question, then i searched it and there was my answer, but it came with a new question....which the answer was found the same way, people weren't kidding about this site when they tell me you can literally find anything here. Looking forward to getting more active here. Cheers.
Welcome to android. This site has really helped me learn a lot and I now feel comfortable modding all sorts of things on my evo. And like it was said, always search. There is a ton of info on here and if you can't find an answer, there are plenty of people to help

Hello and welcome! Lots of info here, just start browsing.
Welcome. Agree with the OP about reading.
What I did to help me learn before rooting my Evo was to just read through the threads in Q&A and General. It gave me a lot of small bits of information that I didn't find in the guides and stickies, and really helped me familiarize myself with what I was getting into. Once I started knowing the answers to some of those questions, I tried to help out. That's really helped me to continue learning.
I'm in the process of doing it again for my boyfriend's Thunderbolt, trying to decipher what small differences there are between the two devices. I know it's usually the other way around - the boyfriend does the rooting stuff for his girl - but we're a couple of odd birds.
Anyway, great to see someone new taking the initiative to search out their questions! It's refreshing to say the least. Welcome to XDA

I had to help my boy root his Thunderbolt and I just skimmed through the Thunderbolt threads for a root method that look similar and one that a lot of people seemed to say had little to no problems and went with it. He came from an Iphone as well and now has become quite a flashaholic. Every time I see him he has a new theme or trying new stuff. From what I have seen from that forum we share some of the same developers so it should not be an issue for you.
Honestly I know a lot of people get scared when messing with their phone but most things are common sense and if in doubt a search in here will help you out. Always read the OP over and over till you feel you got it down....
Enjoy and welcome to Android and XDA ...

So long and thanks for all the fish

This will be my last thread here. XDA is no longer the site I once loved and cherished.
Thank you to all the devs here who've had made my Shift awesome and who I've learned so much from.
Thank you to all the friends I've made here. I'd be sad to leave you but I know that I'll still be seeing all who matter in Huddle or IRC.

A major part of it from what I have seen since I've been here is the quality of the people. Not accusing or placing blame on anyone. But there is a major difference from when I joined in march to now.

I understand completely, as I used to be very active on here, but do little more than lurk in the shadows these days. The people here are rude miscreants, the mods/admins are power tripping paedophiles living in there moms basements, and there is really nothing posted on here that cannot be done with a minor understanding of linux and java.
P.S. After what the mods did with Indirect, while supporting a scam artist, I feel confident of a ban. So, to the mod that bans me, I forgive you already, as I have worked hard to put myself in an excellent place in life, you have not, so I understand the anger. Look at this way, at least you and your mother will have a dinner topic to discuss (as opposed to the ususal conversations about the health of her favorite cats).

Was talking to Indirect on IRC.
He wanted me to tell you he says thanks cloverdale and that you can find him in the shift forums of sdx.
I have to say i totally agree, im sorry to say xda is corrupt... even though the devs are great this has gone to far. 1 month ago the shift forums were a peaceful place, we all got along knowing that every shift is different... now mandatory donations and jerks come along
LET THE HUDDLE LIVE ON!
Well, this thread appears to be full of mature people doesn't it?
Closing this before someone else calls us "power tripping paedophiles living in their moms basements"

I have been a member of this forum for a couple of years now. I don't post a lot but I do try to read a lot of the posts. I would just like to say I've never seen anyone as helpful on this forum as evo4gnoob is. He's everywhere all the time and answers everybody's questions and I've never seen him get upset while doing so. He is super helpful to all of the Dev's as well answering questions about their particular roms. If one could get nominated for a forum moderator or forum assistant or whatever, he would be a shoe in. Thanks evo4gnoob.
p.s. You might want to take the "noob" out of your handle
Yea, he's good peeps, and deserves it. And to do the latter, he'd have to make a new account. But that's half the fun in it.

I killed the human knight in the beginning, EVERYONE in the shrine, the giant blacksmith and the merchant in the Undead Berg (he had an annoying laugh). Easiest way to kill them was to lead them to an edge and try to bounce them off with your shield. You may die, but they die too because they follow off the edge.
Could gun for leadership over on Android Passions... Small community but peaceful, involved admins and mods. Of course I'm staying here, just something to supplement here

I've been wary not to kill too many people; I'm a theif, so I can't go mass kill with attack..and the undead merchant's laugh is annoying. Good strategy...I'll keep it in mind.
And I've never heard of it, and I doubt they'd like promoting an outsider. lol Though I'm staying here as well.

This kinda thread actually isn't a bad idea, well what I mean is to have ONE thread to introduce ourselves in, we all know each others user names but maybe we would have a better community if we said a bit about ourselves and our first names or something.

Trading stocks is very risky business. Learn everything you can about stocks trading and then unlearn. Ironically, I make money only by not knowing too much about stock
