I have just been playing with the Tweak2k2 app and to be honest haven't found anything revolutionary in it to make it worth purchasing - these great forums (grovel, grovel) provide far more useful info.
One of the tweaks is to put the date and time on the title bar, which I tried and it seemed to place it over the battery icon so it is illegible.
I then reloaded Tweak2k2 and disabled the option and it seems to have left a block sitting over the battery and speaker icons - they are still there because when I click on where they are supposed to be they do what they are supposed to do (display battery/volume settings), but they just aren't being displayed.
Any thoughts?
Solved this - the tweak software left a blank (0) entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell "TBOpt" which caused the icons to be obscured - deleting the key resolved the problem.
How can I remove the bottom try on my today screen? The one that has the battery / comm manager icon?
Thanks in advance
go to \Windows\Start up\ and remove/move the "initTray"
Thanks... I should have searched first... I found it in 2 seconds.
WOW that worked great... Thanks you for that... it was something I have been looking for.
now for another question... how to I remove the top bar all together, or the bottom bar for that matter?
I was hoping I could get just a bottom bar that worked a little like the taskbar in windows. One not 2 bars to take up the main screen. I would be fine with removing either but I just feel that having both is TOOOO Much and just not required.
Thanks,
SuPerSoBBie
OK well first of all thank you for the info again... I have removed it and it was gone when I restarted my 8125.... but every time I plug it into the USB it pops back up and covers some of my screen.
??? any clue how to stop that ... along with my previous question?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
probably not. or use WAD to.
probably not... is that for both the remove bottom bar and the USB questions? I suppose I shouldn't have asked soo many questions at once. It just confuses me
Well either way Thanks nothin (did you notice I didnt use FOR in that statment)... and I have seen WAD but didnt really want to run such a bulky app. I was hope I could do it with reg or file manipulation. Oh Well...
Thanks again for your help.
SoBBie
hmmm, on second thought it may be possible, but cant check right now..
install vjtoggletoday, then go to its registry and try set "trayvisible" to 0...
(sorry for my funny english..)...
nothin... Thanks again for your responce. I do appreciate it. I just got VJToggle to give it a try. I find that it does remove the bottom bar and the top fine... but I am still having the problem when I sync my PDA the bar returns across the bottom of the screen. Sorry dont have a screen shot but here is what I see:
-----------------------------
STARTButton###########
TODAY PLUGINS
############sync icon##
TODAY PLUGIN (2 lines)
-----------------------------
When I softreset it is all gone (the way I want it) but when I plug into USB the sync icon taskbar returns.
Can this be completely removed where it does not come back. I am going to look into tweaking the sync program... maybe I can turn off the show icon in taskbar or something.
Thanks again for you help..
SoBBie
Are you using a program that allows you to control your wizard from your pc? I can't remember the name of it right now, but when I used it it would cause the system tray to come back.
If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle
Change these keys:
Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243211
(SIP keyboard staying on, SIP moving to the top of the screen, menu titles disappearing but not the background, etc.)
...in fact, that's precisely why I'm sharing this info with you, as this thread is 39 pages long and it's only towards the end that things become totally clear! I'll post again if there's any unexpected side-effects, I'm currently minimising BatteryStatus and I don't know whether this will
Good luck!
Carlos
NOTES / ADVANCED
=======================
A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.
E: A nice new HTC wallpaper is doing the rounds without the logo. (As you can see from my screenshot, it's mis-positioned with the extra screen space) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830
F: Vijay555 has been meaning to release a new (non-alpha) version of the software for some time, but sounds pretty busy. He seems like an all-round splendid guy though and I'd like to thank him for this software and his continued postings/programming.
I have the HTC X7500 WM6 and I've been desperate to make it works.
I've been trying other version from the 40 pages thread, so I'll try this one and I will post result.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts
Perfect... without HTC Logo is even better...
Thanks Carlos,
I've just installed and its working fine. With the clean background from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830 looks even better.
Cheers,
Marcelo

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar
Thks anyway
How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

Well it works well so far.....(Not my screen, Neo's screen @ HoFo)
I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.
Apologies... I'm kinda programming again, had lots going on, so never finished the app. Sorry for you guys having to use my unfinished piece of cr*p. I'll make it work properly one day!

HELP!!!
I installed this, but I don't know how to get into the registry from an .exe file, so I just tried to open the file through my phone, and instead it has hidden my start bar, as well as the bottom bar. How do I reverse this???

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Just soft reset your phone.

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!
won't stick
Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup
the result of the appl:
I have this running at startup on my Tilt, works with screen rotations and everything! And the hard keys are still mapped to calendar and contacts for quick access, awesome.
Many thanks, couldn't stand those useless soft keys before.

ive been trying to figure out how to do this for a loooong time. i use pcm keyboard with an iphone skin and its HUGE. it plus the bottom bar take up more than half the screen. plus its easier to type/know where the letters are if the keyboard is all the way on the bottom. i use a hardware key to toggle the sip so i don't need the bottom bar to disable the sip. anybody know if its physically possible to hide the bottom bar when the sip is active (or make the sip cover the bottom bar)???
Edit (11/21/2008):
if anyone is interested in this i might have some info you might find useful:
when i use the attached .tsk file, the behaviour of my tob and bottom bars becomes completely unpredictable. basically i end up with a combination one of the following combinations:
-normal topbar
-no topbar
-"transparent" topbar (so that i see the top few pixels of my spb mobile shell theme)
and..
-normal bottom bar
-no bottom bar
-bottom bar on which the keyboard overlays (when activated) << this is the original desired effect!
see the attached images for examples
i can't just keep this theme because behaviour is unpredictable and sometimes causes freezing. Also, choosing a different theme returns the bars to normal behaviour.
other info: i have t-mobile wing and use an open touch v6 rom, spb mobile shell w/ a greatbal diamond theme, and s2u2.
That's my problem too.
Support.
Never heard on anything that will do this. But it's a very good idea.
vijay555 made an tool called today toggle that did that on the today screen (I don't know if it hid the softkeys when the today screen did not have focus). It was originally written for WM2003. I have not seen much about it in a long time. Try checking his website http://www.vijay555.com
i did read alot about VJ's todaytoggle but i assumed and other people confirmed that it only works on the today screen. i guess ill play around with it when i get a chance and report back here

VJToggle only hides on today screen. I wish someone can come up with a way of hiding these things other than today screen!
thanx for the replies
yea VJ's tool only works on the today screen. i wouldve thought that someone would have already made this possible but it seems very few ppl have even thought about it. im sure one of the developers here can make this happen!!
bummmmpppppp
(am i right in thinking that thats wat u say when u want ur thread to be "bumped up" so more ppl can see it??)

The english is fine, better than my Deutsch!
It depends on your ROM version. The stock ROM has an HTC icon, sort of a downwards arrow, that shows up only on the Today screen. It is controlled by the stock WM task manager icon in the Settings / System screen. Hope this helps.
BTW, I use Arkswitch, and it is really nice - although it is not really optimum of you are using WM 6.5. It works best on WM 6.5.x.
Hmm?
Thanks, it helps me a bit.
What do you mean whit controlled by WM Tm in Settings? Must i look in files for this manager? I've thinked its in a dll, or maybe in Png file. I've found one png but after i changed it nothing happens. For what do you use Arkswitch? and i use a EPS Rom whit 6.5. We talk from the same Icon? These three ugly white Stripes whit an littel arow up or downwards.
Sorry and thanks again

My Energy ROM does not have the default WM Task Manager in the Settings / System area, so I cannot use the icon of which you are speaking.
Arkswitch is a task switcher. It sets up an area of the screen that you touch to control the tasks. On the WM 6.5.x, the start menu is on the bottom left. On the earlier versions, the start button is on the upper left, which makes Arkswitch a bit more difficult - the activation area defaults to the upper left area of the task bar.
Yes, that is the icon indicator that HTC puts up on the home page only. If clicked, it shows all running programs, plus has three icons at the top, I don't recall what they do - one of them was battery, I think. If your version of WM supports it, you can control it via the Settings / System / Task Manager icon - assuming that the program you installed did not change this icon in some fashion.
I am not to sure what your asking for but here is a cab that will install that task manager. Install to your device and then soft reset. It will put that task manager with that icon in the upper right corner. I hope this helps you.
Hi,
i guess he simply don´t like that icon for the taskmanger. It seems all he want to do is to exchange that icon with a more suitable icon.
And because he don´t know where the picture information is stored (maybe in a dll-file or an exe.file) he asks for help.
