Battery % not reporting correctly? - Galaxy S I9000 General

My battery % was showing 60% available. I removed the battery and sim in preparation of flashing but changed my mind when I powered back up it was showing 39%.
Has anyone else seen this issue, I'm thinking it might be the cause of the battery issues people have been reporting.

I have had the same issue. Not sure how to fix yet though.

If you've rooted your 'phone deleting the batterystats.bin file when the SGS is fully charged is a possible solution.
To delete this file do the following:
adb shell
su
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin

Ok I just did some research. Apparently this is done intentionally by samsung and it's not a bug. They just use a different chart for determining how much battery life is left. So from 100% to 71% the indicator will look like it's fully charged, as an example.

Help yet again.

Ok installed EB01. Everything's working no problem at all. Then I was looking at my battery icon. It was at 40-30 percent then all the sudden drops down to 10% it doesn't even try to hit 30-20 % etc. Is this a known bug or is there a fixed to this? I've tried wipe and battery wipe on the red clock work.I'm clueless what next to do. No task killer. Juice defender etc. Thx

You charged the phone 100% and then cleared battery stats?
Yes.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
The fact that you are giving battery life ranges implies that you are judging by the stock battery graphic ib the upper right, which is remarkably misleading.
Install a better battery mod/theme or simply download OS Monitor and look at its Misc tab.
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble.
Thx I'll do that.

Weird. Download battery % app. Phone battery icon is at full bar. But then app battery % is at 80% . That's weird. This a known bug to EB01 Stock dedoxed?

What I've noticed on some is that they yank the battery when it's full during a bat cycle based off of what the stock image on the upper right says. What is more then likely the case is that you wiped (or didn't wipe) the battery when it was actually at 100% so it reads at 100% when it really is at 80%. Best thing to do is charge the phone till the bat app says 100%, then wipe bat stats after letting it charge for an addl 10 min. Then full cycle the battery and charge again and report back.

[Q] mot_tcmd / tcmd 55% battery drain???

I got pretty bad battery life today.
Usually I make it through a day with moderate use.
Today though, it was really bad thanks to "tcmd".
Thats all the info the battery usage page gives me.
55% and 2h:40m CPU time !!
What is that process? First time I see that problem.
My display time was just 55 mins today.
I am rooted on 57.
In terminal, "ps" gives me mot_tcmd /system/bin/tcmd
Anyone seen that before? What is that?
Thx
Me too! I used to use one battery charge per day and all of a sudden my battery is dead. Batter shows tcmd using 40%... I thought it may be related to the 1.8.3 update I applied over the weekend. The internet says tcmd is total commander app which I dont have unless its bunded with another app. I dont see it in the task manger either. Any info would be great. Thanks!

I had this problem once also. But it was before the update that I just did. Wasn't able to pinpoint what it is though.

My battery was dead in under 5 hours this morning. I restarted the phone and recharged and it seems fine now. I dont see tcmd in the battery list either. Ill see what happens in the morn.

TCMD is draining my battery fast. Running at between 34 and 40%
Would like to know what it is.
Are you all using Gingerblur 3.1? I flashed Kenn's new update and my battery life was total crap today. I dunno if it's related or not...

Im running stock 8.3 no root. After I simply restarted my phone I havent had the issue resurface again. Weird fluke I guess. My guess is that process must connect or do something over the wireless network and att may have been having issues with whatever that service is causing the service on our phones to use up all the battery while retrying. That theory but who knows.

Battery Usage App

I'm looking specifically for an app that can help me find out what is using my battery at certain times. I am losing a lot of battery (25%) overnight when the phone is sleeping (like me) and I need to look in the morning to see what has consumed it. So, basically, an app that can be started at a certain point or reset, and viewed later and find what's using the battery. Anyone any ideas?

Yes, I have to agree. This has also happened to me. I have actually had this happened when I turned my phone off one day. Before turning it off it had 60% battery, after a minute I turned it on and it said 20% battery. Also, has it happened to you that you charge it leave a couple of hours and when you unplug it rapidly falls to 70% or less? LOL! But it is nothing a full charge and batterystats.bin wipe wont fix.

Wiping battery starts has nothing to do with reported battery percentage. Similar results can be obtained by setting your phone face up on the coffee table, watching any random show on tv, and doing Zumba for 30 minutes. In other words... none.
Battery stats, which is only a list of the apps that have put a demand on the battery, is already cleared each and every time the os is rebooted

This is what I have read on the XDA forums and it has worked for me.
Completely charge your phone to 100% (Full battery charge) without unplugging. Once it is charged, without unplugging it, reboot to recovery and wipe battery stats in the ADVANCED section. As soon as your wipe it, very quickly unplug the phone. (as fast as possible). Once you do this, reboot your phone and completely drain it to until it turns off and you cannot turn it back on unless is plugged. Once it is drained charge it completely full withot unpluggin it or turning it on.(Best time to do this is at night, since you are probably not going to use it while you sleep). After that just use it daily. You have to give it a couple of days so the battery syncs up. Hope I helped out!

No offense, but what you have read is incorrect and is rooted in a misunderstanding about how the os and li-ion batteries work.
1. Wiping battery stats does nothing pertaining to charge indication. The file cleared is an already blank file that lists nothing more than a list of the apps that have consumed power. This file is cleared by the is on every reboot already.
2. Completely draining the battery shortens its serviceable life.
Any "results" that are seen by doing the above are merely attributable to the placebo effect.

Ouch ... bump charge it and wipe battery stats in recovery. Or maybe even do a fresh install. Sometimes that will fix it

Stop spreading that freaking lie. Wiping the battery stats doesn't do anything. Besides it is wiped every time the phone is charged to 100%. Don't believe me. Look it up, a Google engineer has posted this along time ago.

WIping battery stats is useful when installing a new ROM, so it can measure battery capacity better (extreme tl;dr version). Install BetterBatteryStats and look for unusual wakelocks and processes. Report back with what causes the issue and we will see. If you could include screenshots of BBS, that would be the best
You don't get it do you? It is wiped when you install a ROM. It is WIPED when you charge to 100%. The batterystats.bin has no effect what so ever on your wake locks, battery problems, or anything else you think it is related to. All it does is report to the settings what has been using the battery.

You know there are nicer ways to tell someone that wiping battery stats doesn't do anything . If it doesn't do anything than it shouldn't be in the options...period. I was trying to be helpful and offer a suggestion..and it couldn't hurt to try.
.. so whats your suggestion so no more "lies" get spread??
CWM is largely generic, so the Battery Wipe option is there whatever device. It is a waste of Dev. time to remove/customise for every device.
It doesn't do anything... in this case. It may on other devices.
But this is largely OT now... so back in the room.
It doesnt do anything for any device. A long time ago it was thought to do something. But a Google Engineer said otherwise pubically.

Check that android.process.media is not running and consuming 20% of CPU cycles. This process always runs when you restart the phone as it scans the phone's internal and external SD card for media files.

Got. The solution just changed the kernel. To stock and everything is as good as it was
