Just as the title says... How hard is it to replace the digitizer without replacing the lcd? Anyone have a how-to besides the HTC Service Manual?

Hi,
I tried it and gave up, bought a new LCD set and replaced that. Basically digitizers come with different connection tape and you need to play with it to make it fit and then solder everything together. I'm not a newbie in that but unfortunately with my tools and the condition of the wires in the phone it was imposible. I posted it before but once again i'll give you good advise: but the LCD set. it's worth it!!!
Take care,
Tom

How to disasseble your Trinity

Dear friends,
My offer to the forum, a step by step guide on how to safely disassemble your precious Trinity. You might ask of course, why should I do that on a very expensive electronics device? Well I personally had to do it in order to remount the phone in a white casing because my black had peeled off after two months of ownership and I did not want to send the phone to HTC. Also because it was really fun.
My best regards to you all.

Hi !
Thanks for this great guide !
Very good work !
Concerning the tutorial that I have written any questions are welcome !
Regards !
Great
Thanks for the tutorial
Great tutorial! Thanks! I actually just had my Infrared window pop into the phone on me today (half way at least). I want to try to get it back to normal again w/o sending my phone to HTC. Apparently they have a swap program, so who knows what kind of condition the phone you receive will be in.
Where did you get the original white housing? I might be interested in switching that also since it will be half-way apart already.
Dimanto,
what a super guide. The photos and layout are really good.
Now available in [pdf]
Dear friends,
I have converted the "How to disassemble Trinity" guide in [pdf] and is now posted in xda-developers. I think that this format is more proper because the file size has reduced a lot. You can find the rapidshare link or the attachment in the first message of this post.

Thanks again !
Make it sticky!
Great "how to", thank you very much
@mods:
I think this post should be stycky
Hello, great guide, only one question, when detaching the cable from the motherboard for the LCD screen you commented it was a little more difficult and to pull up the black lever. Can you elaborate on this part and also advise how easy it is to replace and close once the cable is reinstalled. I have a crack in my LCD screen, so probably wont have to go as far as you. Have accidently broken this type of clip prior and want to be careful. Thanks
LCD Panel and Digitiser
Hello dimanto, any thoughts on how the LCD panel and the digitiser fit together prior to me starting on this project. Thanks.

Hello my friend. Actually it is not so difficult to pull up the black lever so you can then easily take out the screen cable. This is rather easy, also to clip it back on. What you have to be careful of is when you unclip the LCD screen cable from the the M/B, then when you pulll out the LCD screen from its postition, do it very carefully because it is very easy to accidentally cut the LCD screen (ribbon). So don't worry about the clip.

Well I do but if you are buying a new LCD screen don't bother about it because the digitizer is already on the new screen. If my reply is not helpfull just tell me what part you are changing exactly. Basically the digitizer is a small glass attached on the LCD screen connected to her via a small ribbon cable. If you need something more just ask.
Regards!
thanks dimanto
but can you please choose tools which you used from this page
http://cnn.cn/shop/tools-c-71.html
because there are different sizes and types of tools

This is exactly what happened to me. I broke this little black clip and now my phone is useless. Where did you get another one? I just cannot fix the flat LCD cable anymore to get a proper picture on LCD (now it's either inverted or screwed up or totally missing).
PLEASE HELP! I can't live without my Trinity

My keypad doesn't work after reassemble

I deassembled my hermes to check out some stuff. I followed a guide so I knew what I was doing. Anyways, after reassemble my keypad doesnt work anymore. I think I must of unhooked the keypad or something. I think it first ribbon, you have to unhook. I didn't know how to reattach it, so I poorly taped it. Heres a pic of the ribbon. I think that should be the keypad ribbon. Anyways, the guide told me to deattach it, but the thing is that it doesnt reattach.. So how do I do it?? Help me please.

It is a push in connector. It has a stiffening layer glued onto it to make it easier to push in. There is no special trick just ensure it's lined up and push in!
You have identified the correct connector (ignore text on first photo is was made for another purpse, but you can see it's a simple push in type.)
The silver surface on the connector is purely for stiffening, if it comes off it can be re-glued.

Thank you soooo much man, I didnt know that it just snapped on together. I thought I might have damaged my phone. Thanks for the disassembling guide links too.

wing digitizer

I got a new digitizer for my Wing : how is the digitizer attached to the back of the lcd ? is the digitizer cable welded or glued to the ldc board?
thanks
Here is what I found while searching google for a step by step process to replace my housing. The tutorial goes into detail on how to replace the screen/digitizer. The wing's screen/digitizer combination should be one piece, although you can buy each separately. I am assuming you have one piece so I have included the link below. If you by some chance have only the digitizer and need to attach it to the protective screen then the link below will not be as helpful as I would have hoped. Good luck.

[Q] Is this a damaged LCD? :(

So a few months back I'd had my digitizer replaced and recently I noticed that it was collecting dust so in a wrong move! I decided to disassemble and clean it!
I faced some difficulties disassembling the main board and I think I've damaged the LCD while doing that! after putting everything back together I noticed that the top half of the display shows distorted colors , I've attached some photos.
Now my question is that if you guys believe it is a damaged LCD or some other parts and If so is there any way to fix it without replacing the LCD?
thank you very much in advance
-Bahador
Next time don't do it by yourself. Anyway, I think you didn't assemble it properly, try to disassemble it again and assemble it properly. If still doesn't work go to your manufacturer.
thank you for your response, can you be more specific please? do you think it's the LCD's cable? cause I was no able to detach it in the first place
Bad news...
110% your lcd is damaged/faulty.
Replacing it is the only solution, but don't do it yourself, it seems like you just don't have the right skills for that!
