I unrooted my phone, installed the OTA with 720p last night, then rerooted it. The camera worked fine for a while, but then all of a sudden it stopped working. It would come up with the camera screen for a second, but then go back to the Home screen. If I try using the Barcode Scanner app, it says "Sorry, the Android camera encountered a problem. You may need to restart the device." I've tried restarting it a few times, nothing happens.
Also, oddly enough Lamppu stopped working, but Incredilight still does.
Anyone else have this problem or know of a fix?
EDIT: I also installed the Hydra OC/UV kernel, I think the camera stopped working after I did this, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I did a nand restore and got it working again. Still dunno why it happened though.
Yep, looks like hydra needs to release a new kernel. I am experiencing the exact same issues after installing his kernel.

Hey guys, none of my cameras are working. When i hit the camera button the camera app turns on but the screen is white. I've tried searching but everything comes up related to a discolored camera. Ive tried flashing many roms, fixing permissions, tapping on the camera. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Do you have an Evo 4g? You said you "hit the camera button" but the Evo doesn't have a hardware camera button.
If it's happening across multiple roms, including stock, it's probably a hardware problem.

You haven't flashed a Froyo kernel on a Gingerbread ROM, have you? The issue you describe is a well-documented side-effect of doing just that. If not, I would flash back to stock and see if it works. If it does, then you know it's a software issue. If it doesn't, then I would agree with plainjane.
Did you ever get a working answer to this? I'm having the same problem. My camera won't open, it force closes before going anywhere beyond a black screen. The night before, it would at least open. The front facing camera worked but the rear facing camera seemed stuck on solarize (which I had no options to change). Seems like a software problem so I updated to the latest deck rom, updated hboot, pri, nv, wimax - now fully updated and still no fix. Tried installing miui apk and still same.
If I don't get this camera fixed, I'll have to unroot. Not looking forward to doing that but if it's between having root or camera, I'm going to pick the camera.
Hope someone can help before I have to go to such drastic measures.

Rooting won't break your camera.
I would flash back to a rooted stock ROM, and confirm whether camera works or not on it. If it does, then you know the issue is in fact software related (which it doesn't sound like it is). If it doesn't, then you have a hardware failure.
A corrupt sd cars gave me the same problem. Try re-formatting it.

I took it to Best Buy and they told me it's a sensor issue. My phone gets replaced so it's all good.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried them all before deciding it must be a hardware issue and going to BB.
I know this is a few months late, but I recently had a similar problem. I would click the camera icon and the screen would just go black and then f/c on me. I was running ICS roms, so I flashed to Decks GB rom, Mik 3.1 rom and had the same problem. So I figured it was a hardware problem.
I decided to open up my evo and take a look inside and found the camera housing was not seated completely. Pushed it back down and it has been working for days now
I guess it probably jarred loose when I dropped it or bumped it or something.
Thought I would share, because it was very frustrating for me, so I figured it might be bothering someone else.
Question [Q] no camera.....again
I'm baffled. I was on Liberty GB. Camera stopped working-black screen. (nothing that uses the camera lens worked-instant heart rate, retro cam,fx cam, etc) I thought it was hardware related, so I flashed back to .340. Now it works. Use it for a day or 2, it's fine. I think for the heck of it I'll try MIUI. Flash that, all is well still. I go through 2 updates and all is still fine. About a week ago camera is gone again. It randomly works on and off for a few days. Doesn't seem to be reboot related, it just sometimes works when I open it, or another app. Now it's been off for 4 days. I'm lost-any thoughts?
My dad's G2 after the gingerbread upgrade started to act dumb, now the home/menu/back/search buttons dont work at all, I did factory reset, cache cleaning, erased sd card and nothing! I have been looking on google for solutions and nothing, but I have found some people having the same issue after update
same here
mine stoped responding
all four capacitive front buttons are dead
I'm having the same issue, except my phone was already rooted and running CM 7.0 without any issues to report. I have barely been using my G2 lately because I have an iPhone 4S as well for work, and it gets much more attention these days. I just noticed today that none of the aforementioned buttons work at all any more, even after reboots. Tried reinstalling, upgrading to CM 7.1, even tried MIUI's latest to see if it was some software glitch, still nothing. It just seems so weird given nothing else is wrong with the touch screen at all.
I've done some searching as well and haven't been able to find any solutions for this issue. Anyone have any updates? Is this simply a hardware issue?
mine was doing that with the tiamat kernel
hey for those that have this problem and are using cm7 try using zdunes patcher to get the tablet buttons
I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue on the N10 as well or if I just got a fluke.
Front / Back camera worked for first 5 minutes out of the box. After going to a different application and trying to get back to camera, camera app fails to connect. Restart tablet, same problem. Force close gallery/camera app, wipe data/cache for the app and re-open. Same error, camera no longer displays at all.
Factory reset, camera works for a few minutes, try to open it again after leaving, crashes the same way. No third party apps can access camera either. Tried many factory resets, even with only gApps installed same camera prob.
Waiting for RMA now, but has anyone else run into this or something similar? :crying:

I had this exact problem on my galaxy nexus. I finally pinned it down to an app that controlled the LED (like a flashlight, or torch app). I removed it and it worked fine after that.
Yup looks to be a 3rd party app since it works after factory reset. I would reset it again but choose not to have it reinstall the apps automatically. Then just do the process of elimination until you find the problomatic app. Worth a shot.

Thanks for the advice but I've factory reset multiple times and have only gApps installed, same thing happens
I'm having the same problem, both front and back camera are not working properly. I'll try factory reset later this day.
Do you have the cameras working already?
I'm having the same issue too. Today's the first day with my Nexus 10, and right out of the box the Camera doesn't work. Never loaded even once.
Has anyone else had this issue and was able to fix it?
Same problem here! Do you think rooting and flashing CM might solve the issue?
Same here. It seems its only the stock camera tho. I installed 2 different cameras from Play Store & both those work perfect. Camera ICS+ & HDR+ both worked for me.

I tried these apps but it's still not working for me. Hope it's not hardware related. It worked the first day I had my nexus.
EDIT: Installing CyanogenMod solved the issue =)
EDIT 2: Well it actually solved it for just a day or two, now it's back!
I'm also having this issue too it seems. Created a post about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251337 and thought it was related to my rooting of the tablet since it worked okay before I tried that. Currently on 4.2.0 stock and OEM locked and the issues is still there, starting to think it's a hardware issue.

Definitely a hardware issue. I did an RMA with Google ...the new device they sent me has no issues.
Try that if your device is still under warranty! Google is pretty good at getting replacements sent to you within a week!
Turns out it wasn't a hardware issues, the problem I was having was apparently related to the sync of contacts which for some reason completely disabled the camera until such a time as the contacts were synced.
As the title suggests these functions won't work. Autorotate started working briefly but now it is still not functional. The hardware is fine, since testing the accelerometer with an app showed change in all directions. Suggestions?
at least give more details. what rom are you on? when did they stop working?
I am running marshmalux v2 with squid's kernel and xposed installed. I am not really sure when it started since my default set up is portrait mode. However a month or so ago when I tried to watch a video on yt the screen wouldn't rotate even though I had shifted to auto rotate. What is really puzzling is that camera rotation works fine.
EDIT: Flashed another ROM to check if the issue persists. It didn't help.
bump
So I have an update on my issue. Maybe it can help someone else but I have partially solved it. As I said earlier flashing stock didn't fix it. Even after frashing a complete factory image, the issue persisted. What seemed to remedy the issue was flashing non-stock based roms such as cyanogen. The gestures still don't work, but auto-rotation functions as it should.
I would be grateful if somebody has a suggestion. I really want to try spectrum ROM, which is stock based.
