Love the phone, but that's off topic, long story short the only thing that REALLY bugs me is the poor way flash was integrated, or rather YouTube. I don't understand why it doesn't show the thumbnail in the browser and then take you to the YouTube player app when you click it like every other Android phone I've used. Is there a way to set it to do this?
I've also noticed that when I browse to a story in Newsrob (Google reader app) that has a YouTube video in it, it opens the browser and says some error message about (like it's expecting to be able to use the browser to show a video thumbnail that will take me to the YouTube app to play.)
Is there a way to fix this? The phone has the YouTube app, and the same browser as the Nexus One for example, so I imagine it's more of a disconnect somewhere and not something that would have to be in 2.2 or another update.
Any suggestions?

plugins are enabled, but still the issue. is there a way to install flash light or htc's flash player (from the slide for example) on this phone?

Flash lite should come installed by default IIRC, I can't replicate your problem on my phone (GS Korean version), but perhaps it's the site.
First, check your flash:
http://www.whatismyflash.com/
If that tells you you have flash then you have flash and it's enabled. I'm running 9.1.122
If that works, then, check this page:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/16/modded-game-gear-becomes-portable-home-for-n64-video/
(just the first youtube video I saw from my favorite gadget site) It shows me a thumbnail preview and loads right up when I click the play button from my SGS. If this works for you then perhaps it's not the phone's problem. Let me know and I'll check my settings, I can't imagine this is a flash lite issue since I think I have the same version of flash lite as the rest of the world. I hope you can replicate the thumbnail and video experience.
I meant to bring up that not all videos have thumbnails, so it'd be important that you had the video(s) in question checked against something with full flash. I probably haven't helped much, but at least you'll be able to know what version of flash you are running...if nothing else.
The steps worked and I was able to see the video thumbnail and it linked to YouTube... I guess my problem is with NewsRob and just from being used to the HTC Flash on the myTouch Slide.
When I go to the what is my flash link it just tells me I have no flash, or it is disabled.
Any idea how I get flash lite until 2.2 drops?

I'd like to do that as well. Is there a port of it from the Slide or another HTC device?

Open your internet. Click on "more" -> "settings" -> "enable JavaScript" & "enable plug-ins"
go back to http://www.whatismyflash.com/ and check to make sure you have flash enabled.

HI GUYS
I JUST FACED A PROBLEM WITH MY FRIEND'S FACEBOOK PAGE IN OPENING A VIDEO HE UPLOADED IT
AND WHEN I TRY TO OPEN IT IT ASKS ME FOR FLASH PLAYER AND I DOWNLOADED THE ADOBE FLASH PLAYER AND CHECK THE VIEO AGAIN BUT NOTHING CHANGED THE VIDEO CANT BE OPENED
NEEED UR HELP GUYS
Easiest way would be to find the caps lock and press it once and then use internet explorer or skyfire instead.
LOL, nice, I know there is a way to get it running in opera 9.7 but I don't wanna mess up my opera. Having flash on the opera already installed would be the best because it's the fastest browser and has the best pinch to zoom. Ohwell, I would love to just get the opera on the device to see the youtube page as the mobile version so when someone sends me a youtube video link, It will open the youtube app instead of nothing from opera. Sure, you can make IE the default browser and get this but there is no pinch zooming with IE. Ohwell.
Thank u friend so much for ur help
but
is there another way to enable flash to opera
because the topic is all the way on top anyways....where is the fix for opera browser?
Is there any solution

Does this kill the pinch zoom on the HD2 browser? Anyone get it to work with the HD2?
very interesting, might try this myself. anyone got this working on hd2 yet?
I also tried it several days ago and I disabled it after installing.
The problem is (after disabling it is o.k. again) that for example none of the youtube movies worked for me. And also the has been some flickering in the upper third of the screen while zooming and scrolling. That has been the worst issue!
the patch does not work well at all.... is a waste of time patching....
just live with it for the time being i guess....
it does work
it worked fine for me on 3 different roms so it is probably worth a try for any of you people who are undecided on it. (and it is really easy to do too)
youtube and loads of other flash sites work, however facebook videos do not work for me.
How can a youtube link displayed in the browser be opened via the native youtube application, instead of the HTC flash player, wich is much more blurry and has lower resolution than the regular app?
I didn't read throgh the whole forum, but I tried to ask on other sites, but didn't get response.
Please help!
Go to settings --> apps
Find HTC flash and clear the default settings for it. Then next time you open a link it should ask for your choice of app.
All guesswork, but seems the only way to do it.

HTC Flash Player has no defaults to it. Clear defaults button is gray.
The same goes with HTC Streaming Media.
What are you talkking about, cymru?
Thinking of getting the HD2 for T-Mobile. I had the unlocked GSM version in the past and put custom ROM's on it. I played with the HD2 at my local T-Mobile store the other day and I noticed that if you get a link sent to you for a youtube link, the opera will not re-direct it to the youtube app like it did in my custom ROM. In short, is there a way to make this happen on the stock T-Mobile ROM? Reg edit or something? I get youtube links sent to me all the time and as of now, opera just tells me that I'm missing something to play it rather than re-direct to the youtube app. I know that IE will do it but I don't use IE as my default browser. It's slower and no pinch & zoom.

what was your cooked ROM that did this?
Zenkinz'S rom DOES it. His ROM's are very good with some minor adjusting. I would normally slap his ROM onto a t-mobile HD2 but I wanted to give the t-mobile ROM a chance. Here is the link to his ROM. His is the ONLY one that does this properly.

Again, you can use opera and click on any youtube link video and it will launch the youtube app to play it. Very nice!
Can anyone figure this out? Any chefs know the recipe?

Why not ask zenkinz how it's done? I doubt it comes under the heading of national security, so he may tell you
Personally, I use Opera 10 (no pinch-to-zoom, but no text reflow either). Once plugins are enabled you can watch youtube vids in the browser, or click the fullscreen button. It's just as good as the app for viewing.
I use m.youtube, which when tap "watch video" opens htc youtube app
curious if there's a solution to this too
The only reason i ask is because if im browsing around Facebook and someone posts a youtube link, clicking it goes to Youtube.com in Opera where flash doesnt work.
So having a way to click a youtube link and for the Youtube app to open up would be useful

I notice that some ROMS and even stock ROMS will do it and some will not. I tried it on 3 different stock T-Mobile HD2's and none loaded the youtube app from the opera browser. Even if it was from m.youtube.com.

Does opera 10 replace the built in opera 9.7 on the HD2? Or can you use both.
I guess no one has found a solution?
Zenkin's rom does open it in the Youtube app, but it doesn't seem to open the same quality video as it would if you tried it directly via the app itself.
Kumar's rom doesn't have this function, the Touch Xtream does. However the Kumar rom runs circles around the Touch rom regarding both speed and stability. I would try Zenkin's rom, but it's running the older version of WM with the buttons x button on the top. Anyone know of a rom that is both fast, stable, on WM 25559 and does youtube links???
How about if you do not want to change the rom on phone ? can you get a direct link to youtube to pull up the app instead of the website ? that would be ideal. I currently am using a US tmobile hd2. its kind of annoying to not be able to watch videos that were texted to me. any help would be greatly appreciated !
After asking this question in a number of times, I figured it out to a point.
Make this change to the registry. It's the same tweak for the BBC iPlayer.
HLKM/Software/Opera/Prefs/User Prefs/Custom User-Agent
Change from HTC_HD2_T8585 Opera/9.7 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) to HTC_Touch_HD_T8282
Embedded links on webpages such as Engadget still don't show. Links do show up on google and will play from the app. So not a complete fix, but better then nothing for now.
A very strange thing started happening in the last few days. BTW, I am running stock 2.1, rooted, nothing much exotic done to my phone besides that.
I use the stock browser and the way YouTube videos have always been displayed is with a still image that has a "play" arrow icon in it. Once I clicked this, the YouTube app would take over and do a pretty good job playing the video. At worst, I would first be sent to the YT mobile site and would launch the video app from clicking there.
But now, in the stock browser Google Reader site (formatted for mobile) the videos have taken a flash-like appearance, which messes up the mobile page formatting, and when I click it, a lower-res and far choppier version plays! I am not sure if this is only happening on Reader or on all sites yet. (I can try to take a screen capture if it helps you.) Now if I'm not mistaken, there's supposed to be no flash support until 2.2, and I made no deliberate changes to cause this. The videos look like crap, are formatted badly on mobile pages, and unchecking the plugins option in the browser just replaces them with a black square I can't do anything with.
Anyone else seen this, and maybe have any idea what's happened and how to make it go back to the way it was?
you should try another browser besides the default you wont go back lol
i don't have this problem on dolphin hd
Anyone have a suggestion *not* involving switching browsers?
I had the same issue and I just cleared browser defaults and it cut it out.
(As a note, I have switched to dolphin mini and love it, waaaay better than stock browser. Liked opera too.)
Epic is as Epic does

Was worth a try, but no change. Have figured out how to launch the app by clicking on the window again, although oddly enough Google Reader no longer does *anything* now when clicking on the video image. I'm not against trying an alternative so will check out Dolphin anyhow. Thanks.
Hi I recently got a nexus 7 and I followed the instructions I have seen here on how to install flash on my nexus 7. It works but my problem is when I watch streaming flash video on say sockshare or putlocker for example the video does not continue to buffer when I pause, so flash video is unwatchable at the moment because when playing the video stops to buffer every 5 seconds. I'm using Firefox beta as my browser. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to fix it
Which tutorial did you follow to get this working? I tried a tutorial from YouTube but it didn't work.
Can you explain real quick the steps you took to install flash and your ROM please?

btw, adobe and flash dont support jelly bean or the newest devices. flash isnt made for it. so whatever bugs exist in flash running jelly bean, wont be fixed by adobe. that said, ive found that flash runs best on the aosp android browser, not quite perfect, but not bad.

Does the hulu site in desktop mode allow you to view their videos with the AOSP browser? As I understand that's a root only browser, correct? If so, I wasn't interested in rooting before but this might make me start working on it. I dislike that I pay for Hulu+ but can't view the same content as on my PC when I'm on my PS3, and now my tablet.

just tried it and it didn't work. you can get the actual hulu page rather than the hulu+ advertisement but videos won't play.
I sideloaded the latest flash apk and it works for me in the Firefox beta. I haven't tried any other browsers yet. I think firefox beta has it set by default to click for flash to play instead of letting it play automatically.
I'm using CM10.1 Nightlies as my Rom.
Here is a link to the latest from the adobe site.

FYI, here's my setup:
Rrunning 4.1.2 stock factory Rom at the moment, unlocked & rooted - turned off/disabled/hide Chrome Browser. D/L & install "Boat Browser" from Market (support Flash) used by some of the custom Rom & d/l Flash 11.1.115.17 from links here on XDA (or from Adobe's website). Boot into Recovery, wipe cache & reboot OS.
Launch Boat Browser, go into Settings (3 dots bar on bottom right) and go to "Page Content Settings" - scroll down if necessary, change "Enable Flash/Plug-ins" to Always on (or "On demand") - Enable JavaScript should be On by default. Changed "Set as default browser" to On as necessary. Exit & restart Browser - you should not have to reboot N7 again and check your ability to open/view most Flash-based videos, mine is working as it should be - no longer shuttting off or getting the error msg/device not supported, yada yada.
As for playback of most stored or d/l videos on the N7 - I liked & used "Mobo" player - free from the Market.
Profit - now, there's a lot more to watch streaming on the N7 besides Youtube & CNN video clips. Questions or more issues, please post & will try to help - not new to Android but still on a learning curve with the N7. Good luck as it should work even for those running near stock setup.
OK what I don't understand is with my desktop if I'm watching a streaming video and it is taking a while to load I will pause it and go do something else while it loads and come back when enough of it is loaded to watch uninterrupted. With my nexus 7 that I just got when I pause the videos don't continue to load. therefore when I try to watch a streaming movie it stops to continue to load every couple of seconds and it makes watching a streaming movie unwatchable. Does anyone else have this problem or a solution to it
