Hi
My nexus has problems with booting. The nexus logo appears for a few seconds then dissapears and i have to remove the battery.
I can get into recovery mode, but it also shutdown after a few seconds.
But if i try enough times the phone does boot and can work normaly for weeks so long i don't turn it off.
I have updated from 2.1 to 2.2 froyo without any changes.
Anyone got any suggestions for this one?
And no i don't have warranty
Since i cant post youtube links, please use this search word "_bIfvl6Cuts" and you will find the video of the boot attempts.
hm... looks like the top led is blinking?
seems to be a hardware defect, sorry
you should contact htc support and if you don't have warranty you'll have to pay.
but maybe i'm wrong and it is a software thing (but i really don't think so)
Hi.
Please go to settings/privacy/factory data reset.
Now get into recovery. Wipe everything (cache, dalvik, sd...) then restart and apply again a factory reset.
I hope it isn't any kind of VIRUS made available by Mr Jobs before announcing they are to refund their retard costumers because the antennagate...

I have done factory reset, but since my phone isnt rooted i cant clear cache & dalvik ?
And the led that is blinking, cant bee seen with the eye ?
Its a IR led / face sensor ?
perhaps the problem is that you recorded it with an iphone? j/k
it does look like the ir led and not the standard led.
did this problem start occurring when you upgraded to 2.2?
did you upgrade with the OTA update or did you download it from somewhere?
I'm not sure but can the 2.2 update be reflashed? Perhaps something went wrong in the upgrade process.

I got the phone second hand for free, beacuse of the problems. The problem existed on 2.1 updated that was on it.
The update was also from OTA.
So i can rule out firmware update failure

I downloaded the kies version of the firmware of the froyo update and updated the firmware using odin.
After i installed froyo, i wanted to root to apply swype patch and everthing went ok but when i restarted, the phone was stuck on the i5801 loading screen for about an hour
so i flashed the firmware again.
Odin saves the data onto phone and restarts the phone and the phone opens recovery mode but now it gets stuck on a screen saying "delete app data"... "delete files please wait" and it has been stuck there for about 3 hours now and even when i try and open recovery mode, it opens but then this screen comes up
i tried flashing multiple times but nothing works, cant even factory reset now
Please help me out..
note:odin for a change shows a disabled reset time box.. it is faded out)
add http and enter "dl.dropbox.com/u/26157339/compressed.jpg"
here is a screenshot of the screen at which my phone has been stuck for about 3 hours
Also suggest if i should go to the service center coz the phone is under warranty, i really doubt theyd do it for free considering its rooted but i dont mind paying up.
And let me know if there is anyway the service center ppl will know i rooted/flashed
Try taking out the battery and then putting it back, and press the 2 volume buttons+home+power until the phone boots up in recovery mode... Try wipping the memory from there
that is the entire problem, as soon as it goes into recovery mode it starts off like shown in the screenshot
therefore it is not displaying the menu (which has options to factory reset/clear cache) instead its jumping directly to the update sequence but then getting stuck at deleting apps
Try flashing a different firmware, such as an eclair rom. Note that your phone is 5801, so look for those firmwares.

k ill try flashing an eclair rom. I did flash firmware specific to my version it self..
But the problem is that even after the flashing is done, the recovery window has to open where the update begins and thats when the "deleting apps" screen kicks in and doesnt progress
never the less ill try flashing another rom/firmware and see
Hmm, that is weird. Did you flash the bootloader?
tried flsahing a eclair firmware but no luck..
odin runs for a couple of mins, and says pass but still the phone is stuck on the delecting apps screen..'
For some odd reason, my recovery mode is hell bent on deleting some apps but is not able to and is getting stuck and therefore i cant reset/ clear cache..
Do u ppl think this could be coz of the root??
Please suggest something, i dont want to know my phone is bricked for ever considering its not even been a year since i bought it
a second flashing of eclair did it thanks man!!!
it usually works if you flash the very first rom that worked the last time you got problems.
did you flash with your sdcard in your phone?
anyways im just glad you fixed it

No problem. Nothing beats the feeling of helping someone out.
Except an orgasm and drugs
So i would say I have a pretty bad problem. Randomly my phone shut off, and when i tried turning it back on, the logo would show up but the screen would later be turned off and only the buttons would light up(home, back, settings, search) THIS IS THE SGH-T959 Model.
I DID NOT root my phone or anything, and the state in which it is in right now i THINK is called a "brick"? My phone randomly keeps vibrating and the buttons stay lit up, but the screen is just completely black. When turned off the battery just keeps refreshing and show a little bit of green, but it doesn't charge past that.
I followed some instructions and I think it's in recovery mode right now, what i see on my screen is Android system recover <3e>. I have the options to choose "reboot system, reinstall packages, delete all user date, delete cache data, and format internal-sd card" I tried rebooting but didn't work, neither did reinstall packages and the error tat came up was E: failed to open mnt/internal_sd/update.zip(No such file or directory). I think that is fine though because i WAS NOT trying to root my phone or anything, this problem just randomly occured. I searched and found things about people getting this problem after rooting, but i didn't try rooting it.
I don't know what to do next, I can't backup any of my content or data since my phone screen won't turn on.
I tried all the common things like taking out the battery, etc, didn't help.
I also read about reverting it back to stock, but my phone is technically already in stock, since all i did were occasional kies updates, nothing that relates to rooting it or flashing it
PLEASE HELP!!!
Does your computer recognize the vibrant when you plug it in?
nope, and when i turn on kies it tells me to connect my mobile phone
And you have data to get it off before we can consider wiping it?
Don't use kies. It will brick your phone. Happens over and over. Use Odin to go back to stock and start over whatever it was you were trying to do.
what do you mean if i have data? If you are asking if i have my data backed up then no I don't.
and I don't even remember the last time I used kies, probably because there are never any updates. And isn't it like the official way of updating your firmware?
In recovery do delete user data and wipe cache if that does not work just reinstall stock rom using odin but go to download mode first. That is pretty much everything that can be done at this point.
If after Odin you still have wired problems in most cases it means water damage and you mother board needs to be cleaned or replaced.
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
Gun thanks so much, I fixed it after deleting user data and wiping cache. Unfortunately the apps were deleted so it's basically a brand new phone.
THANKS A LOT once again
Was it that simple? Good for you.

Any idea where to find the JFD or JI6 stock Odin images?
All of the links turning up on XDA seem to be dead.
Just picked up this device used for the express purpose of hacking around in it, so would love to have a stock image on hand to restore when needed.
Not sure if I'm the only one, and if I am that really sucks, but I got tired of waiting for the OTA and decided to install the update via the fastboot method, unlocked my bootloader installed without a problem.
However the issue now seems to stem from transferring media files to my tablet, which I never had a problem doing, a pop up window will tell me that android.media.storage has stopped, giving me an option to report and to simply tap okay.
Not sure reporting ever does anything, and if it does I've never seen it change a single thing at all, but after I tap okay or send the report, any files transferring will just exit out, then if I unplug my usb and plug it back in, it doesn't seem to recognize the tablet at all.
I've so far remedied this, not sure if it's a permanent fix or temporary, by going into settings>apps>all, then from there tapping the app, clearing data and cache, restarting my tablet with a hard reset and it seems to be working for the moment.
However transferring files since the update are sluggish at best, and taking a 356MB folder of images used to take maybe a few minutes, 5 or 7 at the most, now it's hanging there at times with the transfer time increasing.
As a matter of fact I'm transferring said 356MB folder right now and it's stuck at 10 minutes to finish and hasn't moved for about 10 minutes.
If anybody else is having these problems, can you suggest ways you've fixed it? Or do I simply need to either do a factory reset or straight up flash it again to fix the problem?
Also, I made another article detailing my problems with updating, which I've since fixed obviously, but Recovery Mode isn't anywhere to be found, I do the regular method and before it showed the android with the red triangle and below him it would say no command, now it just shows the android with the same triangle with no wording underneath at all.
I've also re-downloaded the official factory image 4.4 from google's developer site and tried to manually flash recovery onto it, and it says that it succeeded but then when it goes back to fastboot and I choose recovery it loads then shows me the android with the red triangle.
I've even tried downgrading back to 4.3 but it tells me during the rewrite of the bootloader that there's a signature mismatch.
In addition, this should be the last revision to my issue, I've even tried re-flashing 4.4 and now that's kicking back an error saying there's a signature mismatch, so I can't go into recovery, I can't downgrade, I can't flash a recovery image to my tablet, I think I screwed up in ever updating to 4.4.
Im having the same problem with Media Storage when transferring pictures via Android File Transfer on Mac, tried it on Windows also, same problem.
It happens with my Nexus 4 on KitKat also!!
I still havent found a way to fix it, did you (OP) ever find a fix?
Cheers

Nope no fix yet, I haven't tried transferring a large number of files since, oddly enough, I finally did get the OTA update and it installed 4.4 again.
It didn't take long and the file size was puny, only about 32MB, I assume it installed what was missing, but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary since the official updated kicked in.
Yeah I have the latest OTA also, but I am still having the same issue!!

Not really sure why it's different for you, like I said I got tired of waiting for the OTA and manually flashed the factory image, that's when the problems started, but after a few days I got a notification that the new update was ready which really confused me.
But I installed the downloaded update without a hitch, booted like normal and I just finished transferring a 100MB folder of images to my N7 without an error popping up on my tablet saying something crashed, so I can only assume for the moment until I transfer a larger folder, that the DL'd update fixed the problem.
I've also heard people flashing it again, or side loading it, or even a factory reset would fix the problem, but there weren't many replies as to this actually fixing the data transfer problem.

Take anything I say with a grain of salt as I'm not the greatest guy to ask for help, I only really ask questions here and I'm just going to suggest what to do, if you do it is up to you and I take no responsibility for your device having further issues.
1. Hard reset your device and upon it rebooting, check for the update again and try downloading it again
2. If that doesn't work then back up your data
3. After backing up your data do a factory reset on your device and once you've booted back up to Android, check for the update again and install
4. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what else to suggest, this is what I would do to try and fix the problem, but for my situation it was unique in that I tried fixing it various ways that seemed to make it worse before it got somehow better.
I hope issuing a factory reset works for you, if not then that hard reset does when you try to redownload the update.

Thanks for your reply back. Yep i also thought of the same 4 step solution as yourself but i also heard from 2 people that had the same thing happen to them and they thought it could be a goggle server problem, So i am going to wait to see if it sorts itself out over the next few days

Bootloop following contact with water? Or recent update?
Hello,
Here is my story : end of last wwek, my phone fall in a small amount of water (1cm) on the top (jack side). I wiped it very fast and use it for the next 30 min, everything is good. and then i let it 2 hours (charging or not i don't remember, i don't know if it can matter). After that i find it bootlooping was there an update, end of last week? Anyway i let it in that state at least 30 min and even more and then tried to restart it not better. I also tried a wipe cache and after that a factory reset, nothing...
Yersterday back to home, i tried to flash the 5.0.1 factory image ( didn't want to take the 5.1, because i feared a possible bad update on the image maybe) nothing better, even worst because after after some time of bootlooping, i've got the red light flashing :/
Same goes for the 4.4 flash but small miracle, it's working 4.2.2... During all those tries, i did some oem lock and unlock before and after each flash.
So my phone is working with the first version of android available, which is not the best.... I also tried the OTA update to the 4.3 and i also got stuck to a bootloop
So after that long story (sorry), I defer to your expertise because i don't know what else to do.
Please help :/
I just installed the lastest version of cyanogen and it's working well...
Still no idea whats happening there?
Seems to be a real big question i ask you there, but i continue my thinking on my side.
I dont like the idea, but it light be a hardware problem... Maybe a failing memory slot, or an unused component until then.
So it brings me 2 questions : how and where could i find logs after a failed update?
And how could i efficiently test my hardware CPU, RAM, as we can do on a computer?
Thanks in advance, any idea, help, joke are welcome
Last night, my wifi just stopped working, it won't enable. When I go to advanced I am sometimes able to turn on the wifi, but it just continuously says turning on but won't enable, and sometimes it's just totally greyed out. I also had some problems today connecting to mobile data services as well, and I don't know if that's related.
I've tried a hard reboot (but it just comes up saying no command...), I've tried restarting it a million times... The only thing I haven't tried is a factory reset, because I am abroad using google fi and I am worried that I will have to set up my project fi again and I can't connect to a tower in the USA. (I am not sure if that will even happen, but I won't be back in the USA for a good few months so I don't want to risk it)
My phone says it updated yesterday, which I assume has caused this wifi problem (or a really big coincidence), but I can't find any information online about it.
I run the stock rom, it's not rooted, I have had no problems with any other things besides this.
Is anyone else experiencing this, or has experienced this before? Do you have any suggestions on how to resolve it?
It sounds like you are experiencing the same problem as everyone who forgot to update their vendor image after flashing the OTA. Had you been rooted, the simple fix would have been to flash the the MTC19X vendor image. With unrooted phone, I got nothing. The only possible solution would be a factory reset and to download and install the OTA again.

I don't touch anything or mod anything on my phones. The phone updates itself and as long as I am not running any custom roms I don't see why they wouldn't have a complete update that basically just spoon feeds my phone. Do you know if factory reset would reset my project fi?

I believe factory resets wipe the /data and /cache partitions of the device. All apps installed in /data are deleted, while apps in /system like project fi will have all its setting reset.
It's easy to resolve the iasue if your rooted, but since you aren't the next to last step you may try would be doing a network settings reset. Go to Settings>Backup and Reset>Network Settings reset. Just make sure that you are aware of your cellular data settings so you can set thing back up after the reset.
