S model
is the S model really that bad? what went wrong with it?
Smiley
the xda2s was the worst thing ever, main problem was the microphone on the device was terrible and people could hardley hear you, and the bluetooth did not work as it should so the headsets did not function properly..
So the XDA2s is ok as long as you not useing it for phone calls

I've got a 2s and a 2i and I think thats a harsh statement. Everyone has different needs.
The microphone on my 2s is absolutely fine. After a short time with the 2i I still haven't decided which one I'm going to keep. Sure the bt stack is better on the 2i (presumably only until the next 2s rom release) but is that enough to make me give up the keyboard? As a heavy emailer I just don't know if I can go back to all those screen taps with the stylus. The 2s has it faults at the moment but after the novelty of the 2i has worn off a bit I'm kinda leaning back towords the 2s.

You do not sell the XDA IIi SIM free and SIM unlocked? DO you ship outside the UK?
OK sorry it was a bit harsh, Only on most of the XDA2s's that i had the microphone worked but people i talk to alway say it was hard to hear me, as if i had my finger over the mic hole, witch of corse i did not. And with the bluetooth not working correct that made macking quality phone calls not possible.
Yes good point with the keyboard some people like the idea of it being there when you need it, and slid away when not needed, but some of them stated to loosen up badlley after a week or 2 of use
For us being a mobile phone shop and a customer caller us but then is having trouble hearing what we say is no good advert.
I will speak to o2 and seee if i can get some ( very few ) unlocked so i can sell sim free anywhere
i saw a qtek 9090 (xdaIIs) loooks HORRIBLE !! specially when the keyboard sticks out....it has 60% chances of breakin apart when the keyboard sticks out....but still i would go for xdaIIs only if it EVER HAD 1.3 MEGA PIXEL CAM (no probs even if the resolution and image quality is like xdaIIi)
I am reside in US and would like to buy O2 xda IIi as well. Applecom can you please forward me some info on how to get one from your shop. Thanks.
Ok, still no luck as far as finding a new XDA IIi unlocked/simfree. Can anyone point me to anyone selling one, or shipping one to the US.
Thanks,
Mike

I'd take one too!
THe XDA IIi is worth £500 (more sim free)
When I get my stock in, I will be looking around 425 mark. Negotiable.
Thanks,
Imran.
Or just get one from O2 for £384 with full support and warranty.
Greetings to you all.
THis is my first post here, and I would appreciate any help.
I am considering buying an HTC touch HD from eBay. I found that the cheapest ones are those listed in eBay.co.uk, and locked to Orange UK. However, the price difference compared to the phones which are factory unlocked made me think whether there is something wrong with the Orange UK phones.
To be specific, I have two questions:
1- Do Orange UK HTC-HD phones have different specs compared to other HTC-HD phones?
2- Are Orange UK HTC-HD phones guaranteed to be unlockable? If yes, could they be re-locked again after a ROM upgrade? will they work (after unlocking) on all GSM networks worldwide?
Again, any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.
To Orange or not to Orange!

1- I believe the Orange hardware specs are exactly the same. It's just the ROM/software that they play with.
2- Every phone should be SIM unlockable. I have seen many reports in this forum that they can be. You can easily replace an Orangised ROM with a cooked one or WWE stock ROM to remove any unwanted Orange stuff.... all you'll be left with is the little orange logo on the back. There is no need to SIM unlock the phone to upgrade the ROM. Check out the HSPL / USPL threads to see what must be done and how easy it is to ROM upgrade.
I have an Orange HD (still locked) running the non Orange HK 1.19 ROM
I have a Orange handset, i use orange so im not bothered about simunlock, ive removed the orange software and put Duttys 1.7 on at moment.
i believe there are a few vendors that can provide guaranteed (or your money back) unlock codes for around 18euros
I've had an Orange Touch HD for almost two weeks now and it seems fine. I flashed it with Duttys ROM and that improved things like RAM usage and stuff, but added its own little annoyances.
Go with the Orange, you wont regret it!!
I have an orange sim locked one... but as I am an orange customer I am happy.
Dutty's v1.7 rom is the current flavour.
Thank you all for your quick response. this will definitely help me out ...
One last question before I actually make a bid: Has anyone unlocked his/her Orange Touch-HD phone and used it on a different network outside UK?
Bought a HD ORANGE (UK) on ebay, unlocked it with code (htccode) and now im usin it in slovenia
Thank you so much
I will start bidding.. will let you know if anything went wrong!
I bought an Orange one from eBay a few weeks ago. Got it for £370 with a Best Offer. I had previously won another one which was described as 'brand new in box' but had a scratched screen and obvious signs of use!
Make sure you get what you payed for!! I had to do a PayPal dispute as this person was adamant they hadn't used it... despite the pouch being fluffy, the earphones having the furry covers on, and various scratches! Needless to say, they had it back on eBay as BNIB the next day again!
Anyway - my second one arrived still with the original screen warning protector, and I got a best offer on the unlock code on eBay for £14. The code came through within a few hours, and I typed it in twice and it worked perfectly. I then updated the ROM to Dutty's - as the Orange one was a bit naff - and stuck in my O2 SIM card! As with Dutty's ROMs on my old Diamond, it instantly knew it was an O2 SIM I'd put in, and asked me if I wanted to install the settings - which I did. A simple soft reset and my WAP / MMS settings etc were all sorted!
Orange phones are definately the cheapest, as people are taking them as a free upgrade and selling them on - because they're probably the phone thats worth the most at the moment!! The only downer is the naff Orange logo on the back cover which won't come off no matter what I scrubb it with! Their old ones wiped clean with some label remover or paint stripper
Can someone please take a picture of the Orange logo on the back? How big and gawdy is it?
i dont really like the orange logo on this one either, since the back cover is the same microsatin finish as the touch dual i had, its not gonna be possible to remove it.
its not very big, but a sudden orange square kind of spoils the "blackness" of the device.
im assuming there is no free unlock solution yet....
anyone know the cheapest place to get it unlocked? if its on ebay, could you give a link to the seller? im a bit cautious cos i've had some dodgy ones in the past thanks!
Orange HD Upgrade
I got my HD free as an Orange upgrade through mobiles.co.uk this week. Was very happy to find that Orange had not been let near this phone. Haven't even got the silly logo on the back and it's unlocked. I think they get them direct from HTC.

It's 1cm square or 1 square cm!
Damn....looks like I'll be looking for an un-branded phone then....
cant u just buy a new back cover off ebay and get rid of the logo that way?
My orange logo is less than 7mm squared!
I bought a replacement battery cover from eBay about a week ago, and it just arrived the other day. It was an 'original htc HD cover' from Hong Kong for £15.
It certainly looks original, and all the stuff inside is the same - but its missing the volume buttons, the power button, and the speaker grill bit. It also comes with the camera cover as a seperate bit you need to glue on!
A waste of £15 if you ask me - unless I can send it back to Hong Kong (which will probably cost me heaps anyway!!)
I got a fairly good deal with mine on Orange (£20 /month 500min, 100txt 3 magic numbers and phone for £95) so i dont see anything wrong with buying from orange. The phone works fine and specs are the same.
I have a Orange HTC HD as well...not anymore, new ROM(original HTC) and new HTC battery cover from expansys.com. Works fine...I'm on O2, I hate Orange very much gf using orange, poor customer service and poor reception, I give them a F with a - as a Mobile Network Provider.
My baby HD works and looks great after I got it back to the original HTC look thanks to the guys at xda-developers.com
See pic of Orange logo on the back of the phone, you also get a I must admit nice Orange splash screen which I removed when installed my new original HTC ROM678
Thanks for the photo. I'd rather do without the orange logo if I had a choice.
I'm currently looking for one, but all the UK sellers require a verified UK paypal address, which I don't have. I have a UK Aramex address, but of course it's not verified since I'm abroad.
Just buy the battery cover HTC original after you buy your phone. I think I payed for mine £23. Looksa good, from HTC or expansys.com.
GL!!

Howto Unlock
How do i remove my simlock from my htc magic. Is there special hardware equipment needed.
I understand that the simlock mechanism is separate from the firmware mechanism.
Can somebody give met technical details?
They are already unlocked.
Vodafone edition of the HTC Magic works with all carriers, so no need to unlock
does that apply to germany as well?

celester340 - if you are in the USA you can get an unlocked Magic from ImportGSM.com - thats where I got my Rogers Magic and using it on AT&T with full 3G. If you are not in the US, the Vodafone units are the way to go..many on-line places to get those.
Regards - John
And if you are with T-Mobile US, your only choice is the Google Ion as of now. By month end, T-Mobile will release its version of the HTC Magic (myTouch 3G).
i got my phone from ebay UK YAY!!!!

If you'd like to have it please let me know.
warranty in HTC portugal is for 2 years so HTC provides internacionaly 2 years warraty.
Reason of selling, i got tired of the phone and want something better. Nexus one problably
Beside the phone beeing rooted in portugal the warranty works without issue, you just have to put the original SPL at least and everything will be OK.
Has original plus 3 extra battery
1 USB cable
1 hearjack
1 external charger
16GB Class 6 MicroSD memory
its a 32A
its almost as new the phone, just small scratches on the backplate, you cant see but is normal of the use.
Never was overclocked.
if you like to have it let me know
I'm considering buying a 2nd hand unit Vodafone HD2 from Ebay, I was wondering if anyone knew if Vodafone simlock the HD2? I've seen some sellers claiming Vodafone don't lock their devices, others don't mention it. A couple of searches have drawn a blank, can anyone give me a conclusive answer?
Thanks,
Sherbet66
Oh trust me, they lock the devices. I had trouble with them regarding this.
At least in my country they do!
thanks for the reply however I should have mentioned that i will be buying a UK handset ~ an unwanted upgrade, do Vodafone in the UK lock these?
Thanks,
Sherbet66
Hi,
I can speak for UK and the devices I had direct from Vodafone were not locked.
They are:
SE M600i
Diamond
HD2
My friends had:
Touch Pro
Touch Pro2
None of the above were locked and they were offically from Vodafone UK.
I think you can see other threads pointing to the similar coonclusion here.

I received a Vodafone contract HD2 last week and was surprised that it worked with an old Orange SIM I had lying around, so I reckon it's not SIM locked.
It comes with the 1.43 ROM, so you would probably want to reflash it anyway.
Thanks all,
Sherbet66
Not sure if anyone's mentioned, O2 are selling XPeria Play in the UK for £150 on a PAYG...
I don't want to change to O2, i'm happy with TMob/Orange network share, but I wouldn't mind this phone.
Anyone know if they are SIM-Free, branded and if so how easy they are to unlock/debrand?
Anyone know of any better deals?
Locked to O2 and no branding - only thing O2 i found was the internet settings/bookmarks installed - although these could've come form the o2 sim card i inserted when i bought the phone (not sure).
Chitter chatter deal is better. T-mobile but unlocked and unbranded. New stock should go live later in the week.
Consider that unlocking the bootloader (which unlocks sim too) costs about 18 pounds, SIM-free phones are not that valuable anymore. Just buy a SIM-locked one and unlock the bootloader with Alejandrissimo's help, or someone else's, and you'll have a SIM-unlocked, flashable phone for 168 pounds.

Unlocking your bootloader with Alejandrissimo's method takes no more than twenty minutes, and his unlocking method doesn't break OTA updates nor DRM certificates.
Aww I paid £400 for mine in Littlewoods.
Just got one of these today, anyone give any help unlocking so it can be rooted ? Thanks

Take your finger out of your arse, give it a good lick and dig deeper the next time.
My local Argos was also out of stock. You need to ask them where their nearest store which stocks it is and you have to reserve the phone, which means that you are guaranteed for the phone.
Thinking of buying one of these from O2 and using it with my GiffGaff sim
I am not that interested in using it for games, but the other specifications look impressive, especially the large screen.
So can anyone tell me what they think of the Play just as a phone. Is it too bulky? What is the signal like?
Thanks
