Coming from an N1, anyone noticing decreased data speeds? They both support 7.2 and T-Mo isn't above that, so shouldn't you see roughly the same?

3G 920 down, 602 up best
My n1 never seen above 5,200 down on wifi
my n1 never seen above 800 down and 550 up on 3g
I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I have mine set for GSM atuo prl
Slightly faster data speeds and I run them all........the.............freaking.............time.
Not a world of difference from the N1 and it may only be a placebo effect but I'll put it this way: You certainly won't lose speed when you upgrade to this phone. First speed test went north of 3Mbps and that area consistently got me 2.4-2.6Mbps with the N1.
First time I ran speedtest app I got 565kbps down and 1258kbps up...looked reversed to me.
Ran it again just now and got 979 down 582 up.
It's seems to be pretty random on the test, but real-usage on the browser is fast enough to have me very satisfied.
I'm in Miami, FL
Hmm.. I am getting anywhere from 2 to 2.4 Mb/s Down and 1.7 Mb/s Up (Raleigh/Cary NC).
The Vibrant doesnt support HSPA+ so the max you could get is 7.2mbps. Not sure if the N1 is HSPA+ compatible though.
niether does the N1...its maxed at 7.2 also

those are twice the speeds i'm seeing here in richmond, va with a MyTouch 3G (still waiting for my vibrant to arrive)
I'm in Tampa, FL and it depends on the latency on my end. When it says I ping at around 150 ms, the speeds hit below 1 Mb/s. When it's below 120 ms, my speeds are always above 2 Mb/s. This is download of course, upload just sucks period.

12172 kbps Down
2047 kbps Up
I love having wireless N support in this phone as my last one only had G and it was getting 7900 down.

I pull about the same speeds on my desktop over a wired connection.
On 3G
5581 Down
576 Up
This is in Milwaukee, WI to a server in Chicago. I think the speed is great, especially when I compare it to my daughters speed on Sprint and friends on AT&T.

Does anyone know what is the maximum HSDPA speed on th TyTN? 1.5 or 7.2 mbits?
Thanks
1.5mb. That is the max speed for the chip in the tytn.
I thought the protocol of first generation was 1.8Mbps.
Second gen. is 3.6Mbit/s
HSDPA - theoretical vs actual
Yes, the theoretical speeds are 1.8 Mbps, 3.6 Mbps, 7.2 Mbps, 14.4 Mbps download speed for HSDPA. Of course the emphasis here is on "theoretical" assuming ideal environment, no other users, sufficient backhaul capacity, proximity to base station etc. The next generation, HSUPA will support faster upload speeds as well, also in multiples of 1.8 Mbps.
The Hermes supports, again theoretically, 1.8 Mbps download speed based on HSDPA. HTC Kaiser is expected to support HSUPA as well, but not sure at what bandwidth.
Practical speeds I've seen on my Dopod 838 Pro range from 650 - 850 kbps most of the times, with very rare peaks of 1.1 Mbps max. Plentiful in any case ...
Some interesting bits on HSxPA market adoption and trends here http://www.gsacom.com/.
Indeed it comes down to theory. However the point of the question was how fast the Tytn can be.
The point is that is not the chip that dictates the speed but the protocol that "chip" is usibg. You know just to continue the whole chip metaphor.
I myself have never reached anything over 500kbps... ever. But remember that no one is ever going to hit 1.8mbps due to packets and the way info is transferred through the architecture.
Wikipedia has some interesting breakdown of all the technologies.
I've seen 1.2mbps on my laptop through HSDPA here in Brum (whilst using the phone as a wireless modem) - once you let the device settle down, leave it in one place, it gets pretty decent speeds. It's VERY picky about where I have it in my room though, because the house kills all the 3G signal. In town, it's fine, but the handset's CPU just slows everything down anyway.
Most I've ever seen is a peak of 1.28Mbps, I've seen regular near-500kbps upload speeds though! Which is very nice. @ agovinoveritas - sounds like you're not HSDPA-enabled, you're just surfing at regular 3G speeds (576kbps, iirc?)... You tried ringing up your network operator and blagging HSDPA off them?
^^^^^^ Here in Canada, they have only "soft" released it. Basically what that means is that since most people here are not very tech savvy, the providers announces HSDPA to be available but they are still testing it. Just to show you how cheesy that is, they have not even released any HSDPA enabled devices yet. Just a Sierra Aircard, and since the amount of people out of the general population who would use just a Sierra aircard is minuscule you can see where they are going with this....
They get PR points for releasing the technology first even though they do not give anyone any phones to go along with it. For those of use WHO HAVE hsdpa devices, if we call, the CSRs either do not know what the hell they are talking about or they will use the "we do not support your handset" cheat out.
I've peaked just above 800kbit on the Hermes so far. Same as what I get with my Treo 750v + HSDPA hack.
On my Cingular 8525 the fastest I've got is about 800kbps.
1.2mbps here. Thing is my device doesnt show its connected to HSDPA?!?
Both the icon and fieldtest_157 dont show that im connected!? (this is during a download)

In Australia on Telstra you get about 1.2 Mbps - 1.4 Mbps.
Hmm well considering you are paying through the nose for data if you are wish Telstra than I'd say a "lowly" 800kbit is better than 1.4mbit.

It's pointless to fine-grain compare bandwidth test results of an internet connection with a shared interface (in this case the 2G/3G air interface) since the amount of load on the interface is changing constantly. At best you could use your speed test to get in the ballpark (i.e. to confirm you are really on HSDPA) but to say 'my radio dropped my download speed from 800Kb/s to 600Kb/s' is probably erroneous because a difference of 200Kb/s is definitely well within the variation of an air interface. Unless of course you conduct a controlled experiment with both radios with many data points and you can actually draw a distinct correlation.
Edit: By the way a somewhat more accurate bandwidth test is here:
http://i.dslr.net/tinyspeedtest.html
Atleast most of you have the 3g network. Here in my area of CT we only have the Edge network. I wonder what's taking tmobile so long to make it available in my area.
I generally get 400-600kbps on good 3G signal.
You're being measured by kiloBITs per second, not kiloBYTEs

Not wrong, but not accurate.
There is no accurate way of testing, as there is no constant speed.
Somedays you might get a really high measure on speed test, while you might get a low speed that is unheard of on other days.
So I mostly agree with you xDDD

b=bit B=byte, just so you know.
One should also keep in mind that bandwidth tests usually only test the speed of a single connection. As anyone who has used a multi-part download manager knows, you can usually get a higher overall throughput with multiple connections going. This seems especially the case with UMTS networks, where carriers probably throttle down individual connections to try ensuring that each user gets a fair slice of the pie.
I notice that I get the fastest speeds on my 3G when I am downloading usenet files (10 concurrent connections, each connection only downloading a few hundred kb at a time). While I might max my single connection download speed at 400 Kb/sec (50KByte/sec), I can usually get about 1.5MBit/sec when running multiple connections to a fast server. It's not the 3.6MBit/sec advertised, but not bad either.

Hello Everyone,
I find if I use Opera Browser for www.mobilespeedtest.com I get realistic results.
If I use IE browser, I get some very unrealistic results.
Also, Read My Thread Here, I think we are being throttled but T-Mobile's network limiting the RWIN.

i've seen upwards of 6mbps
I got between 256kbps to 500kbps download speed 3G . Some time less than 256kbps. It suck, I think depend the area and how far is the towers
Usually get around 1Mbps, on average, around the house. Give or take a little fluctuation.
3G, usually don't have full bars but I'm not usually paying much mind to them either. So not sure.
Just ran it from my office. I have 5 out of 6 "bars" on 3G for what it's worth. This is in Baltimore and I am pinging the Philadelphia server.
Ping: 94 ms
Download: 919 kbps
Upload: 617 kbps
Wimax doesn't do as good a job with the whole "bars" thing but they're always an estimate at best anyway. It's showing 2 out of 3 at the moment.
Ping: 135 ms
Download: 3640 kbps
Upload: 992 kbps
Typically my downloads are around 600-1000kbps on EVDO and 3000-5000 on Wimax. Uploads vary more but Wimax usually tops out around 1000-1100kbps.
Wimax in Chicago

Can we focus on 3g speeds?
I'm pretty sure I'm picking up an Evo tomorrow and these posts have been very interesting to me. I will be in 3g territory 99.8% of the time I have this phone. My sprint rep guy told me that the towers in my town are sprint towers (no idea if that really means anything,) so I'm hoping for excellent 3g data coverage here.
If anyone have any 3g reports for Beaver Dam, Wisconsin (which i'm sure you dont) feel free to post!
And if any of this doesn't make any sense, I blame it on the Ambien Walrus that is distracting me here. See below for details.
Edit: Apparently I cannot post my fabulous picture. Anyways: 3G>Madison Area>How Good???
With 4G, 1 bar, 4-5 Mbps is the usual around here. I hate the **** quality of building penetration. I don't know if that will forever be a given, but GOT DAYUM, if I could just post my phone up by the window and rock the hotspot that'd be cool ... or if when I was laying on the couch (head / phone close to window) it'd somehow pick it up. Not a huge deal.
3G though, I should start taking more speedtests (which are known to be inaccurate anyways - but I try a few to get a "somewhat" average reading. or so I hope) just to see. I see speeds that FAR outweigh what I pull in. I don't get it. 3G is solid, never experience any shortages but some places just have MAX signal?
Is everyone just using the Speedtest app that comes with the phone to determine their speeds? I had read that it gave incorrect results. Mine are all over the place, but even if I use DSlReports or SpeakEasy, the results vary significantly.
This is with my laptop wirelessly connected to my phone.

I get around 500down,250 up here on 3g. In strong Wimax areas I get around 6M down (dont recall upload speed). They seem to be getting a new tower up around me now. As these things go,they are spotty at first, then they get them fully online. When I can get a signal in my house (by putting the phone in the back rooms window) I can get around 2M down and 400K up. Im actually typing this while tethered (I rooted today and installed wifi tether.) Its working pretty good.

Tested more phones outside of work and in my area seems it is network related since different phones are doing same speeds some rooted others not. at home speed is better and close to 5-6kbs? Still slow considering my wifi at home nets me an average 7mbps sometimes later at night I can see 9 strong mbps. I'm guessing a phone swap is the only support they know how to give?

I have gotten 2.2 mbps down on the EC01 modem before. Had the best results with that, although I would like to run more tests on ED01.

Try taking off the factory battery cover and see if your signal improves. My signal was like yours until I removed the stock cover. I pull 18mb down 4mb up on my wifi now, where before 7mb was the best it could do on a 25mb broadband connection right next to my router lol. I bought a new case and the signal is great...tried umpteen times now switching back and forth from the factory cover...the signal drops from -78db to -100db everytime. One guy said it didnt work on his fascinate, but maybe certain versions of the phone have the antenna mounted differently,, not really sure. my SF is v.11 running rooted stock 2.2.1 froyo.
EC01 radio, Evil Fascinate, and 1.3 OTB kernel would give me an average of 1.2-2.4 MBPS. The only time I get anything lower is at my girlfriends house(average around .7-.8 down). Anywhere else in Pittsburgh is 1.2 MBPS or better.
Seem to average 1900 kbps down 700 up. This is from various times of day in my apartment. And I had similar results with EC01 (sc 2.9.2). Denver, CO area.
Beautifully working (so far) CommRom 1.3/ED01
Nice, I usually get 3-4 average during the day, but this was at 2:34, and I love the speed. <3 (Running KB5 modem for Vibrant)

Here's my blazing fast 3G speeds from midtown NYC. Tested twice from an nyc server and one in NJ. I used kB/s for one and Mbps so people can compare, point, and laugh. These are my best speeds from about 5 attempts. this is why I usually have WiFi turned on when it's available.. I can hear the 56K Dial-Up modem sounds when I connect to web pages.

How do you guys handle such slow speeds on 3G? I get 3-5 mbps on T-Mobile with around 60-80 ping and it's a little slow haha. But Verizon has much more 3G coverage....
