It was my idea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6307695
SHOW that Android can display apps in a UNIQUE compelling, nice looking way! Not just GRID of icons!!
Fully skin-able too! I have never seen this on other platform, so you can show this to your iPhone friends
And I contacted the developer of the FolderOrganizer and he made it as part of his app
http://sites.google.com/site/folderorganizer/how-to/createskin
Note, I do not have any affiliation with him, not at all. I just helped him with ideas, testing and created some skins.
The new home widget is skin-able.
A skin is just an image (PNG file) for each widget size (small, medium, large).
Image sizes are:
small = 480x150
medium = 480x320
large = 480x500
For landscape mode:
small = 780x120
medium = 780x240
large = 780x360
You should name the landscape mode image with _land at the end.
For example,
Your skin image file name is "myskin_medium.png", then the landscape mode should be "myskin_medium_land.png".
Then an XML file (config.xml) to specify the skin properties.
See my examples in post #2 and #3.
Finally, put together in a folder, for example "My Skin".
Put this folder in the sd-card: \FolderOrganizer\Skins\My Skin
That's it!
I am sure there are a lot of talented graphics designer here in XDA which can create and share this kind of skin
Screenshot of the widgets:
Here is an example of skin that I created.
To use the skin, copy the skin folder "Simple Dark" to the sd-card like this:
\FolderOrganizer\Skins\Simple Dark
Another skin "Brushed Metal", good for dark wallpaper
i love this....i'd like to see what skins we will have here
Nice idea. I prefer what AppsOrganizer/FolderOrganizer do far better though.
Unless... You can have tabs on one of those homescreen grids ?

Well, this is a new feature of the FolderOrganizer that you knew.
This is NOT another application, if you are confused.
It is just an option which you could use to "dress" up your Android phone
All functionality of FolderOrganizer is supported with the widget.
Think this as another "size" of FolderOrganizer widget. Originally, it has only 1x1 widget size. Now it has small (1x4), medium (2x4) and large (3x4).

I see. Thanks for clarifying. A few more qs:
Will this feature be added to AppsOrganizer too, or just FolderOrganizer?
Same dev, very similar functionality between them too.
Can you add GMail widget to this widget? (you couldn't with previous versions)
Is there any option to save all your settings in the app?
-----------------------------------
- Sent via my HTC Desire -
I have no idea if this feature will be put into the AppsOrganizer. You must ask the developer.
Adding widget into a wdiget? I dont think that can be done here.
Yes, you can save (EXPORT) your FolderOrganizer settings to sd-card.

Very nice feature, looks neat.

is this free?
Yep, free from Marketplace (obviously)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i mean there's lite version and full version, which is not freee
FolderOrganizer full version is only 0.99 euro, which is about $1.39 USD.
I am not promoting this, but it is not expensive at all.
Im using the free version atm, still allows you to achieve the same thing.
If you plan to use it a lot, may as well buy it i suppose
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i can't pay for full one, cause i live in wrong country iguess....
One thing i have noticed is that these FolderOrganiser widgets seem to hog the memory quite a bit...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I don't suppose it lets you use small icons for the shortcuts within each group? I'd like to use half size icons myself.
How do you check widget memory usage? Do I need root to do that?

Astro file manager -> menu -> tools -> process manager is one means to view memory usage.
Right, I was thinking there is another way to specifically view the "widget" memory usage.
Using ASTRO (and also Quick System Info), the FolderOrganizer memory usage is about 17 MB.
Compared to other widgets:
- Beautiful widget = 15 MB
- Pure Calendar widget = 14 MB
I don't think FolderOrganizer is memory hog, considering I am using 2 widgets with my "Brushed Metal" skin which of course has large background image size (because of I am using "metal pattern", and PNG is not as efficient as JPG on compression [PNG is lossless])

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL THREAD:
Hi,
Is anyone using "Extended Controls Widget"?
Did you find any issue with HTC Desire?
QR Code:
Thanks, problem in HTC Desire are fixed
Last Release: 3.1
Nice for the Desire supports ... but I have couple of suggestions:
1. Configurable "Brightness" control for 3 steps only and user can specify how much brightness for each step (I want to use 10% brightness for the lowest setting, 20% is too much for me).
2. Controls that when pressed will execute choosen applications. This should work like a shortcut for application. It would be awesome to have this! For example: I have an app to activate certain "profile" and I want to launch it from the Extended Control widget.
This widget has a lot more potential. Think about my suggestions above
why do these contorl widgets never come with mobile data widget?
This one has.

Thanks Gogol for your suggests!! We immediately working on
@ supasye: there is the control called APN that switches the data network.
Where to download, can't find it in market?!?
great widget, I only miss more configuration for brightness (too many steps for easy use) and auto brightness support
Dammit Gogol, you find some really nice widgets
cool.. have a go at SwitchPro Widget as well...
How about:
Dazzle Configurable Switcher
http://www.appbrain.com/app/org.hermit.dazzle
Just got Switch Pro. Handy widget.
Tried to get Extended Controls but got stuck on payment authorization and failed.
The functions and UI look almost identical fwiw.
Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk
Does Extended Controls Widget support On / Off of cellular/mobile data ?
Or does it just take you to the setting page for this ?
Dazzle Configurable Switcher only take you to the setting page
^I've only found the stock widget able to do that.
-------------------------------------
- Sent via my HTC Desire -
I tried both and ended up going with Extended Controls Widget.
The only things I'd like to see in a future release are:
Turn off the widget's background. SwitchPro has this and it works well with dark wallpapers
Flashlight switch to turn on LED
Also if you remove a widget and try to add it, it sometimes gets confused and tells you you need to add a widget you're not currently using. Have to reinstall to get around that.
Aside from that it's great!
yes, would love to see...
* a transparency slider option
* some way to change the settings of the widget already onscreen? (a shortcut in the applications folder or something?)
* a way to arange the order of the widgets
other than that great, i bought it
Main reason that i'll take Switchpro over anyhting else is that is has a 7 button widget iso just 5.
really love this widget!
this that I would suggest for future versions:
transparent widget
ability to toggle wireless tether on froyo
Add the ability to switch to auto with backlighting
So far great app. def. worth the 79c!

Extended Controls will shove as many buttons into the widget you're building as you want to put in there. You could throw 11 buttons in there if you wanted to (and I have, for fun).
Really? Nice In the same space as 4 regular icons, right? Then they really only need to add skins indeed! ( esp. transparent )

3rd screen: Standard power widget, 5 settings shortcuts, droidlight, speedtest, and calculator.
Home: Search, Battery Left widget, Audio Manager widget, Gallery, Camera..
5th: my "Cloud" screen (amazon mp3, youtube, Market, and the like), a folder for Google maps and sky stuff, Astro file, and a simple notepad.
6th: Browser shortcuts, Dolphin, Xda, Music, and Persian Analog Clock widget.
Cluttered? yes
I don't really know what to put for all these screens. I came from a MT3G, but with cyanogen I could have like 9 screens but could edit it back down to 3. Now I'm stuck with 7...
So I made one dedicated to music, I like this page
how are you guys taking screenshots?
I have launch pro plus but I'm more like a minimalist.
I just have the black background (which matches the black tmobile gel case actually) with Beautiful Widgets. One of the other screens is just a basic Launcher Pro Calendar Widget, and the another is Friends (Facebook+Twitter).
I put my commonly used apps/games on the bottom (quick launch) which also has 3 pages.
For that one I used Shoot Me app from the market, but requires root.
You can also use USB Debug. ADB on pc too

You can still customize it, but in a less professional way,
change colors of the clock and date and,

Download Here
Lock Screen
- WidgetLocker [The best of the best!]
WidgetLocker have to be the best Lock screen app out there.
You can do so much with it, have your own widget on the lock screen,
change slider layout from Iphone, Sense Ui, Froyo and Motorola.
To top it off, it can be customized! Every slider can be edited with
a png edit program like Photoshop or Gimp. Just replace the images in
the .APK and push it over wia ADB or use Root Explorer.
NB: This is not a free app, this is a paid app.
Example Here: Clicky
Buy and Download Here
[If you do not wanna pay for the app there is an alternative,
But not that good!]
- LockBot Free
LockBot is totaly useable! It has some nice customizations and great layouts,
but i think its not that good due to the WidgetLocker App has so many more features. But this will do the work if you want a simple Iphone, Froyo Slider,
Circle Lock, X10 or even Galaxy. But i Recommend WidgetLocker.

Folder Customization
- Apps Organizer
This app is great for folders! You can choose whatevever icon you want,

Launcher
When it comes to launchers, there are no god.. you simply choose what
fits you best.
- LauncherPro/Plus[Paid]
With this Launcher there are so many things u can do,
how many screens, docks, rows and lines you want.
There are a few features in LauncherPro Plus thats not in free version.
There is Resizing widgets, LauncherPro Widgets/shortcuts, and popups!
But the free version does the job! It is great and gives you a fast experience.
Choose to have a 3D app drawer or the normal app drawer,
hide or show your notification bar, you name it.
Example with customization: Clicky

- ADW Launcher/EX[Paid]
This launcher is just as good as LauncherPro or Plus.
But to top it off, it is free like LauncherPro BUT you can resize in this launcher
without paying nothing for it. Its a great launcher,

you can get a pad version "ADWLauncher EX" this one has alot of

Big Changes to HTC Weather App
Lots of new lock screens
Enable power efficiency is that new ?
New Connection Type Screen
Multimedia volume is much louder I have noticed. Just feels snappier overall.
You can resize the mails, go to settings and make the preview body lines or something like that none, also make text size smallest, now you can see 7 mails or so.
Mail sounds like a little scary for a user like me who use it a lot for daily work.

I was wondering if it is possible the home screen rotation as you can have with other launchers... I think this is the only thing missing
that's correct, i personally don't have time to play with ROMs and i need something stable and reliable as i use my phone for work generally.

Really ? neat I had no idea I was using screen shot app I'll try now I knew Android 4 had built in screen shot but not this edition
When I install skins from market, it is not showed in personalize->skins. There are only 3 default skins for HTC Sense 3.0. I've tried download skins from HTC Hub and that works correctly with no problems.
And I found out that all of NON-HTC skins aren't showed in skins option. If I install skin from HTC Hub, everything is OK, but when I install any skin for example from Android Market it's not showing in skins menu.
Can anyone help me
You can't install 3rd party skins yet due to the m10 tools not being updated. I've been waiting a while...
There's also a swipe function built into the text app.
And I believe the pattern lock screen has always had a black background on stock roms.

No. The recently released sense 3.0 roms for desire s and desire hd are a different resolution etc to the 3rd party made skins for sensation etc. Therefore they are not compatible and we have to wait for the m10 tools to be updated.

Customize Windows 10 start menu with custom images (even with transparent background) with ease.
It's FREE. Although there's a pro version for donation purposes, there is no difference between trial and pro version in functionality.
You can add tiles for desktop apps, store apps, files, folders, shortcuts and some other actions like shut down etc.

Because of Windows 10's new start menu mechanism, there needs to be a helper app running in the background. And there's a store app by which you can pin tiles to start menu.
You can find the helper app on http://www.win10controller.com/betterstart

Oops! Honestly I don't know what they changed on this build. I haven't updated to 10532. And I hope they won't change the transparent option. Does it give tiles a default (current theme's) background color?
I think it would be right to make wider the 2nd section of the app and place icons in the form of a table (vertical or horizontal). Something like this:
Use one column when lots of applications are not very comfortable

If anyone has feature requests please tell me here or email [email protected] and I hope I can implement it in the next update(s).
And what about the ability to create live tiles? might be a cool feature or a useless thing? I mean a tile with two different images (or an image and a text) and animates like other store app live tiles? If you don't find that one a useless feature, I plan to implement it soon. What do you think?

My opinion is that animated tile is not mandatory (menu "Start", we see a very short time), but beautiful. And its presence will grace the start menu.
Offer to make a software update to automatic, and does not reinstall.
And it would be great if you would make the app a desktop and not modern.
Thank you for the work done. Let you will succeed further.
And another question: is there any possibility to create a vertical tile?

Thank you for the work done. Let you will succeed further.
And another question: is there any possibility to create a vertical tile?

Thank you very much for your suggestions. Honestly, I agree with you: nobody waits enough to see the animated tiles on the start menu. It just might be a nice visual but nothing useful. So maybe I need to postpone this one.
You're right about the update thing. It should replace the .exe file with the new one automatically. I hope I can implement this one soon.
About the modern app.. Actually, I can't change the modern app to a desktop app because only modern apps can pin tiles to the start menu (I mean customized tile). This is why we need a modern app besides desktop app.
And vertical tile.. I think you mean a non-standard tile, right? I don't think it's possible because there are predefined sizes for start menu tiles and here's a list of them:

Thank you again for your suggestions and your opinions.
Hi. Update Windows to version 10547 again "kills" transparency tiles.
