My evo has borked 4g, but I never had the MAC issue. If I return to an earlier RUU and apply the OTA update, and then use the new root method, would this fix my WIMAX?
update your prl then your profile
I've tried that several times. I've verified that my MAC is correct through dmesg logs and the wimax_mtd. I've flashed the updates in several of the fixing threads, even tried the suggested fix in the DC thread since that is my preferred ROM. Nothing has worked.
I've started creating a case for myself with sprint in calling them and having them troubleshoot with me. So far they have have me completely delete my profile, reboot, and then refresh my profile. Once that didn't work they are having me do a factory reset and then try again. Not quite sure what a factory reset will do to a rooted phone.
I am nand unlocked with the engineering hboot. Currently I think clockwork is my recovery image, though I have had amon-ra on this device as well.
Well, I ran the .6 RUU and it had no effect on my WIMAX ability to grab onto a signal. I spoke to Sprint and while the advanced tech support unofficially sent me to XDA they weren't able to help me. She said to take my phone back to RS and get an exchange since I obviously have a software issue that Sprint can't officially fix. Also, she discouraged me from running the latest update, so Sprint is definitely aware that something is going on.
So just right now as I'm sitting in the ****ter I got an OTA update for my voicemail.. didnt even give me a description of what it contained .. does anyone know what this is about? Do you think its going to lose root access ?

Here's something you could do. Install it and you will find out.
...No, you won't lose root.
My wife's phone is asking for this update. I told her to update it, but it will not install. It will download the file and ask to install, but thats it "application not installed". Any way to install this or get this popup to go away?
This update FUBARed my VM. I had to wipe all data to get it to work again, and if I apply the update, it breaks again. Any way to get rid of the "Mandatory Update" prompt?
Update - Just got off of the phone with Sprint. Tier 2 escalations support manager syas they have seen several EVOs loose VVM and VM indicator after applying the "Mandatory Update". Rep told me to not apply it and ignore the message. Also said there is no way to remove the message.
Sounds like a good reason to use Google Voice for our voicemail instead of the Sprint app.
ETA: Then you can just remove the VVM apk from your phone and never worry about it again.

I complained about this today, and received a $10 credit.
I posted this solution in another thread also. My friends phone is rooted and running Fresh 1.0.1. I'm assuming that its because Fresh signed this ROM so the signature doesnt match for the new mandatory VM update. Try this and see if it works:
A friend of mine's phone did this today also. It kept giving an error when he tried to update Visual Voicemail. I ended up enabling "Unknown Sources" to make it work . . . He is running Fresh 1.0.1. (Yes, way behind I know - He agreed to let me update it after our Thanksgiving break)
Menu > Settings > Applications > Check 'Unknown Sources'. This fixed his.
BTW: Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Feel free to uncheck this after the update, or if the update still fails. (If you are paranoid about having that enabled)
Thanks, but that isn't the fix to my problem. I always allow unknown sources for install. The VVM update will install, it just won't authenticate with the server.
Not sure if this is the same update i had months ago, but it allows you to turn on Sprints version of voice mail to text, it wiped my VM data as well.
Speaking of voice mail to text, I discovered somethin g the other day that's kind of neat. If you send an SMS to a land line number, it will ring the phone and, if answered, a computer voice will read the SMS. If the phone goes to voice mail, the same voice reads the SMS to voice mail. Pretty cool...and I don't think there is a fee for the service.
I had no problems with my update... Always use the default msg, so I don't know if it would have wiped VM info, but I still have all my old VM msg's...

Won't even download
Has anyone else had my symptom? Refuses to download when I tell it to: "VoiceMail > Settings > Check for upgrade". It goes online to check, then says "A mandatory upgrade is now available. Includes FREE Trial to Voicemail-to-Text". Pushing the "Upgrade" button immediately complains "General failure. Please try again at a later time".
It won't download the upgrade image at all. Anyone else?
(Perhaps it's because I'm still running 2.1; refused OTA upgrade to 2.2 so far, keeping rooted 2.1)

Well, that "sounds just fine on paper", but after upgrading to exactly that, a "stock rooted Froyo 3.29 base", I've still got the Messages (SMS) app reminding me via Notification that "A mandatory update is now available", and it still gets the same "General failure" error.
Sigh.

Apparently the newly released pc enabled market doesn't work on phones running custom rom's. I can log in and it'll recognize my phone, but I cant download anything and have it start on my phone as intended. Anyone else out there experiencing this same issue? Please share.
There's already a thread going over this...

Missed it.
Didn't see that thread. My bad.
Ok so first of all, im using Mac OS and my Evo is 2.2. I went to unrevoked site got the new unrevoked 3, got my phone and turned the usb debugging on, turned on the unrevoked and left my phone on the charge only. As soon as that thing started to work "root" the message on my phone popped up :: Sorry! the application Zysploit (process com.unrevoked.zysploit) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. ..... Then it reboots the phone and on the unrevoked 3 program it asked me if i have too new of the firmware. I have tried switching to disk and it didnt work. I tried reinstalling the unrevoked still same crap... What can i do to fix this problem?!?
hmmm.... make sure you have ne newest unrevoked. also check to see what software version you have. if you are on an older firmware than 3.70, you need to upgrade before it will work.
3.70 version on unrevoked? if thats the case im on 3.32 i got it from their site. How do i get the new v?
no phone software. unrevoked doesnt work with old coincidentially bcuz the new security added new exploits as well.
Hey XDAers,
I bought a used Samsung Focus off ebay and I noticed a peculiar firmware boot up on it. IIRC, it had a screen that said "no SIM", some big text that said "retry in XXXXXX minutes" but had the usual emergency calling button. Seemed a little different looking than what I'm familiar with (I've had two WP7s already). Using the emergency dialer I couldn't even enter the diagnostics mode. Even hooking up USB zune would report that the device was "locked" I thought this all seemed fairly phishy, so I did a hard reboot on the phone and it returned to the usual initial firmware state that I would have expected the first time, just like it should.
I'm running through WP7 updates now, but I'm just wondering, is there still a chance my phone is running a rogue firmware even after these updates? Can I be confident that the Zune updater will verify authenticity of the running firmware on the device?
Thanks in advance!

If you run an update that includes firmware, it will overwrite the current firmware, thus easing your mind.
I figured this to be the case. Was just a little worried about the boot loader being compromised.
