Hi all, I suddenly have problems flashing roms and installing cabs...
This is the case with Dutty's rom, kumars rom and a few others (topix). They install fine but after installing my applications and restoring my pim data it hangs in the white boot screen (with the HTC text and red info about rom, radio and such in the bottom left).
Even after hard resetting this seems to be the case. It boots sometimes normally, sometimes it hangs on the orange windows screen, but in the end after setting up most of the stuff hanging on the white screen again. I haven't changed any cabs since my previous roms. Could apps be the cause of these issues?
Have flashed tons of roms already, mostly SSPL and since a day or 2 I installed HSPL to do the flashing. Could that have anything to do with it? Have been using this phone for a month and a half I think without any problems.
Going to flash one last time for tonight (work calling again in a few hrs :/) and only restore pim data to see how that goes...

Maybe your card is kind of "critical", making the flash kind of bad?
Didn´t have any issues with either Dutty´s, nor with topix...

Hmmm, my card? I flash from the pc... No card is used, also flashed the last time without sd card in it.
I also have flashed topix and dutys before and had no problems at all, I suddenly got issues after flashing Kumars rom (not blaming it! Plenty of ppl very happy with it!) and after that the same with others...
Meh, waiting for the sms-hotfix to finish installing now. Just finished flashing again and restoring data (and installing a few cabs). Hopefully I can actually start using it again, at least until the weekend.
I think what he means is try to reformat your card. Even though you flash with PC some of the newer HTC Sense with Documents tab write and read data from the storage card. If it is corrupted or bad it can cause a lot of problems.
I have had this happen twice in the past and the format cleared the problem.

Ah ok, haven't installed the versions with the document tab though but worth a try I guess.
Otherwise I'll reflash the Turkish 1.61 WWE (or was it the t-mobile 2.01 version) rom again and reflash roms from there. Perhaps I'll flash with the SSPL again to see if that makes a difference.
Phone still working for now, hardly installed anything and just restored pim data. Guess I'll leave it like that for now :/
Hmmm, I now flashed a firmware using the SD card method and that seems to have worked fine... Hope it's fixed now.

Apparently .... it doesn't always happen.
But when it happens .... it just keep stucked at the white boot up screen.
So end up I have to flashed the new ROM again.

This has been happening to me quite frequently. I am not sure why this is happening. I am flashing Stock ROM and try to flash the Cooked ones.
I DO NOT want to go the Mitty way and screw up my device if something goes wrong. So I hope the Stock flash would help me this time around. I just flashed the 1.66 Stock ROM and am planning to flash Dutty's 1.3 WWE to see how it goes. Hope this would fix the issue.
I guess my device is taking the hit with the ROM flashings. Got to rest my baby with a stable ROM for a while.

Excellent choice. This is what I did to refresh my HD2 from all the flashing in the past 4 days:
1. Flash back to the Shipped ROM (hopefully you have a copy of the shipped ROM, someone posted a link to the thread here somewhere)
Important!!! Make sure you have the RIGHT Shipped ROM. I made a mistake thinking my ROM was WWE Europe when it was WWE Asia. Got an error flashing (since it was looking for the right CID, etc.) but I got it sorted out. (I couldn't even get to the white htc splash... only bootloader mode)
2. Flashing to the shipped ROM apparently triggers a "task 28" like MTTY state, restoring your HD2 to stock (formatting, etc.)
3. Now that your back to Stock, re-run HSPL
4. Download you favorite Cooked ROM and start Flashing like Day 1
Optional Step 5. When you've found the ROM you plan to stick with Then my customizations begin (Manila tweaks, Reg Tweaks, App Tweaks, App Installs, etc.) (I am currently on a very stable Cooked ROM... YMMV of course...)
Optional Step 6. Backup using SPB or Sprite and keep backup handy so when I need to reflash or hard reset (assuming its the same ROM or maybe a slight upgrade) I just run my backup and get back up and running in no time.
Happy Flashing everyone!
When i make a call, for some reason the screen locks up and doesnt allow me to press any buttons. the only way for me to hang up the phone is to press the actual call end button. Does any one know wat the deal is with this..
Hi, It's a good idea to say if you are using a stock or cooked ROM and mention the version as it can siometimes be relevent. Also, has it ever worked or did it stop working after you installed an application? When you put the phone to your ear when in a call does the screen go blank then come back on when you take it away from your ear? Do you have any "Slide down fro more options" text on the screen? This is a Microsoft base so soft and hard resets do sometimes help
Regards.
Im using the stock rom that comes on the Tmobile USA HD2. I dont recall if it was working before I loaded any programs on to it. The screen does turn black when I put it to my face but none of the button work.
Are you using BSB? I had a similar problem. Took me hours to work out what it was.
BSB? I dont know what that is but ive decided to just flash in a custom rom later on today. My battery drains too fast and that freezing isnt helping so i might as well get something that better utilizes this hardware
am having same problem - NEED TWEAK
when I'm on the phone I can't push any buttons. today is the first time I've been using the phone, so I can't tell if it was happening before I installed anything. help, please....
I'm just using the tmobile installed rom not cooked one.

Have you tried doing a soft reset (red button inside device - HTC tech support told me taking the battery out for 10 seconds does the same thing though).
OK, if you can't tell if it was happening before you installed any additional applications / utilities.try unistalling everything you have installed. If that doesn't work try doing a hard (factory) reset, that will reset you phone to factory defaults (back up texts etc. first). It might be quicker doing a factory reset first actually. Details are in you manual (well at least in the Euriopean manual). Here is a link to details oi how to do soft and hard reset for the HD2. http://www.hardreset.eu/htc_hd2_leo_hard_reset_soft_reset_en.html.
Try it after a factory reset before you install anything else. If it still doesn't work you might have a faulty unit.
Hope this helps.

OK. Have a look at the ROM section of XDA and see if this is a known issue with that ROM. You could flash back to a stock ROM and see if it it no longer functions, showing a coincidental fone failure requiring a warranty fix.

I flashed a different rom and it worked, so i flashed it again to the EnergyRom and that worked. It must have been a bug.. Glad its sorted now as it was annoying me..
did hard reset, and reinstalled everything, piece by piece. problem has not reoccurred and it's not locking up (for now). thanks.
Problem fixed
I just flashed my TMO USA HD2 to the NRG rom and its working faster and better than ever.
Not sure what they did on this thing. I thought 2.1 was supposed to IMPROVE performance...and add some BT functionality.
I got no BT improvement. Instead, I got:
1. Random reboots
2. Slow/crashing Navigation
3. Useless voice recognition on Navigation
4. Random phone calls placed when fiddling with BT
5. Slow opening notifications
6. WIFI won't turn on
I could go on and on...
Sprint says I can't go back to 1.5, but I'm sure there's a way to do it.
HELP PLEASE! I'm rooted, if that helps.

theres noway. your H-Boot has been updated. thats the end of it. 1.5 just wont work anymore.

Yes it does. Just find a 1.5 ROM for CDMA hero. However, before most of our devs moved on to the EVO almost all of them stop developing 1.5 and moved to 2.1
I would suggest trying out some 2.1 ROMs and see what you like.
If you are rooted you should have put a recovery on your phone that you can get to by pressing home and turning on your phone. The first thing you will want to do is make a nandroid backup in case you don't like things. Then stick a ROM on your sdcard. Select all the wipe options except for battery and rotate and then flash a new ROM.
Id try wiping and reloading a 2.1 rom. I never had any of those problems when I went to 2.1.
I'm running the latest DamageControl and can honestly say I am not having any of those issues. I say you should try using a different ROM.

RegawMOD was also recommended. Any reason why to pick one or the other?
Thanks for all the help. Sad that unpaid and unsupported independent developers can do this job better than HTC.
In a best case world, I'd be able to get ad hoc networking to work. I followed the directions but didn't have any success. My ultimate goal was to enable my Hero to display photos wirelessly from my computer. Many programs do it the other way around.
Originally I thought BT would be the easiest wireless protocol, but it seems pretty weak for that sort of data transfer. So 802.11 seemed a better solution...but for some reason Android folks decided to cripple the OS from recognizing ad hoc networks. Odd.

You can still flash 1.5 ROMs. You just can't flash the 1.5 RUU.
Great...
Tried Damagecontrol 2.09, did a clean wiped install, and everything seemed fine. Didn't seem much faster, but whatever.
Too bad I waited until I was at work to reboot. Now it's in a bootloop, and I'm stuck at work with no phone.
Sprint sent me a new phone. Once I confirm it's got 1.5, they can have this 2.1-infected POS back.

This might mean you simply didn't wipe everything before you flashed the new ROM. Always perform a full wipe before flashing new ROMs.
Take the battery out of your phone. Put it back in and reboot to Recovery (hold Home and press Power). Then select the Wipe option, and go down that list and wipe every single category (I do them each twice just to make sure).
Then go back to the main menu and flash the ROM again. That should probably solve any bootloop problems.
(I don't know if it works exactly this same way with the rooted 2.1 RUU [I'm still on rooted 1.5], so if any of the above is wrong, anybody please correct it...)

Wow, so working with this ROM is like dealing with my kids. I have to tell it everything twice No thanks. Not worth the hassles.
2.1 doesn't do anything better that I can see. I'll deal with wired tethering considering how rarely I use it. The Navigation on 1.5 works better, or at least the voice recognition does.
Why exactly are you still using 1.5??? What custom 1.5 ROM would you guys recommend? Any that have ad hoc networking built in so I don't have to hack it myself?

You don't have to do them all twice, I was just saying that I do to make sure -- personal preference. Considering how those wipe options only take like 1 second each, there is no "hassle" of which you speak. Adds maybe an extra 4 to 5 seconds to your day at most.

I'm not still on a 1.5 ROM, I just haven't yet updated my phone to stock 2.1 using the can't-ever-go-back-again 2.1 RUU. What I meant is that I still have the 1.5 root, but I have been using 2.1 ROMs over top of that for at least a couple months now. I think all these 2.1 ROMs are much faster than 1.5 ever was. Slow speed and lag were my biggest annoyances in stock 1.5.
We probably won't be able to answer all your questions or remove all your doubts. You won't know completely until you try some of them yourself.
If you look in the Wiki there are several 1.5 Roms out there that you can use. However, there are some apps that will only work with 2.1. Once your rooted you can flash any ROM from 1.5 or 2.1. You might also consider an AOSP rom which doesn't have Sense UI. But as I stated in another thread yesterday, most people end up adding apps to try and emulate certain characteristics of Sense UI. I don't like vanilla android, but it is supposed to be faster.
Here are all of the ROMs available. If you want a 1.5 Rom I would suggest Gumbo 1.5c, Modaco 2.2, or Fresh 1.1.
Thanks all. I honestly can't imagine how anyone could find 2.1 faster than 1.5, but I guess maybe once I'll reload 1.5, it may remind me. The "other half" of the people are (like me) saying the CPU can't handle the extra 2.1 features.
I never found 1.5 slow for anything other than phone calls. Now, those are WORSE, and the lag time to do anything else now exists, where it didn't before.
I ran DC all day, and it was just as annoying as the stock ROM. Maybe a little better in places, worse in others.
I guess I'm running "basic" stuff compared to all you guys running heavy apps or something.
Pancake 1.5 running now...refreshingly smoothly Yea, a bit of the glitz is gone, but wow, no lag.
And I have a Navigation program back that has a functional voice recognition. I hesitate to update because I'm not sure how far the revs go under 1.5. I don't want the new version back and I don't know if it's 2.1-only.
I have a real dilemma here folks...
I have a myTouch3G and the other day I rooted the phone in order to get me a custom ROM and get rid of the stock old ROM. Well, in the process I decided the reset my phone because I wanted everything to go smooth and no apps to intervene. Well so it happens that my phone got disconnected and I can't get past the Welcome to Android thingy. I don't have any friends with a T-Mobile plan and I need to get this phone back running and hopefully with a new ROM. Any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance.
So did you load a custom ROM or did you just factory reset the stock one? Did you get a custom recovery installed by booting the phone holding home+power? If your completely stock (you didn't install anything and just did a factory reset of the stock ROM) your either going to have to borrow a friend's or root using the goldcard method, which will require you to have another Android powered phone.
Oh man! I did just do a factory reset on the stock ROM. Bummer, thanks a lor for the help.

Last night I installed Gingerbread 2.3.1 on my HTC HD2.. Followed the directions exactly and was able to boot Android and customize and had no problems. Tonight, suddenly my buttons at the bottom (home button, start menu, back, etc) started flashing -- side note: if anyone knows why this happens and how that can be stopped please let me know!! --, I figured I would just restart my phone. Well, when I restarted, suddenly I had no service when I booted Android.
I have rebooted my phone in the different methods (reboot, recovery, and bootloader), tried powering it off and then turning it back on, tried putting it on airplane mode (dunno why) and then back off, took out the battery and sim and waited for 20 min and then put it back in... Nothing has had any luck.
When I boot Windows Mobile, I have a phone signal, but for some reason when I'm booting Android, it isn't there.
Anyone else have a similar problem or can suggest how to fix this? I really want to be able to continue using Android but that's not going to happen if it continues to have this problem...
Flash official windows again, then try NAND Gingerbread 2.3.4 Its great ROM and all works.

try a different rom, the flashing buttons was common on early builds of gingerbread
i take it you are using an sd version rather than nand ?
Try switching to 2G only and see if your signal is back.

Yes, I'm using SD version... To be honest, I didn't really know the difference, but from what I was told NAND basically erases Windows, right? If that's correct, I was afraid of the installation not going right and being stuck without a working phone.

I tried going to my settings to switch to 2G, but at first it was greyed out, so I couldn't even select it. Then I clicked Access Point Networks and went back and suddenly it was available to be clicked. I clicked it and went to another screen and for some reason decided to go back to check it and it had been unclicked and greyed out again....
Seems it's a problem related to your rom and not a hardware problem because it works on wm.
Im not familiar with SD roms, maybe you should try a different SD rom or a NAND rom and see if the problem is solved.
Hope u get it sorted !
Since it seems I just need to try a different rom, can anyone suggest a link? I think I want to try SD again just because if I'm having these problems I don't want to completely wipe Windows and not have something to resort back to if I run into something again..

Honestly I don't want to NAND it because I don't want to completely wipe Windows in case I have a problem again... (this is all assuming I understand NAND correctly)... Right now I have a problem so I was able to go back to Windows Mobile. Do you have any suggestions for another SD rom?
Not quite true. You can always go back to Winmo from Android Nand if you are unhappy with it. I used to think the same way but since taking the plunge I've always found it easy to reinstall Winmo in order to use my tomtom navigator
ROM wise there are various fantastic offerings with Android Nand. Some are even spotting the new sense 3. You can try either CoreDroid or LeoRC Mix.
For now head over to the Nand section and read the stickies at the top. There are ample and easy guides on how to prepare your HD2 for a Nand Rom and how you can return to Winmo if you don't like it. If you follow the instructions properly, trust me nothing will go wrong.
