Something is definitely up with that phone.

Man I had the same problem when I first got it. (june 4th) until I did that last system update, I think, or it just went away just kept plugging in the jack but it made my blood boil, so I know u feel.

Answered calls going straight to speakerphone!

My phone has been doing this for 2 or 3 days now. When I accept an incoming call, the phone automatically enters speakerphone mode.
When a BT headset is connected, it is fine.
Anyone got a clue why it is doing this? I havenet installed any apps which should have this effect.
RTR
Been looking into this all night, with no luck. Has anyone seen this before?
Not had any calls come in on mine yet so can't comment on whether I am affected. I would have thought it would be well known about though if it was widespread.
Are you using stock rom? Tried re-flashing the RUU?
Had this to you need to make someone call you and keep trying with the button to switch between speaker or ear and eventually i got it right! Hold it against your ear then remove it and try button again thats how i did it!

Same here with that issue ever since those new updates started
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Mine too but it hardly ever does it now. A sensor tries to detect how your phone is positioned and switches to speaker. It seems to go away on the stock rom, so persevere on the stock rom. It all worked out for me eventually. Word of advice though, DISABLE SENSE until it's ready. It makes your contact icons in messages disappear. Htc always releases questionable software which should be described as beta. If you use bluetooth for music, stick with stock for now. Yadda yadda. All in all, the dhd. Rules. Oh ya, anyone know how the htc hd2 rund witb android 2.2. I saw lots of great deals on ebay to buy a broken one and fix tbe software to run android. I just want a new toy really.

I had this for a while - turned out to be an iffy setting in my profile manager/switcher (phoneweaver). Are you using anything like that?
FIXED: Oh my word, how simple was this...
Should have said, I'm on stock everything as I have a poor track record with having to send stuff back to manufacturers to be fixed.
After spending all night looking for a solution, and trying a couple of things found on other forums (install phonespeaker app and turn it off in that - doesn't work BTW), I decided this morning to remove the possibility that the phone had simply got its panties in a bunch, switched it off properly and removed the battery. 10 minutes of being denied a power source has cured it. Most bizarre.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.

SGS2 sporadically enters car mode

Hi all,
I've used the phone for about six weeks and now it starts to act strangely. Since yesterday it keeps entering car mode sporadically and stars the voice recognition app. A minute ago, it even displayed that it was being charged, even though the charger was not plugged in.
I guess this behaviour us due to dirt in the micro USB jack that has accumulated while carrying the device in my pocket. Possibly, dust particles bridge some of the USB pins and trigger the described functions.
I will try to clean the USB jack and report back. Blowing air over the contacts from my mouth was not sufficient, though.
Has anyone of you experienced such symptoms on your device?
If I can't fix this issue myself, I think I'll have the phone exchanged. Hope, that dust will also reset the custom binary counter, then...
For the record: I'm on Villain Rom 1.4 with CF-Root kernel XKF1.
Greetings
Yeh car mode came on with me after installing villain 1.4
I had other issues also like gmail force closing etc... 1.3 was fine but 1.4 made my phone go a bit cuckoo.
I'm on cognition now but I'll be back on villain at 1.5

So a software problem it is... Couldn't google anything about it. Well, I flashed a stock backup KE2+KF2 CF-Kernel and so far my device behaves as it should. No car mode. I really hope it was a software bug. But it looked so much like a hardware fault...
Not sure if its the same case, but sometimes when I answer calls my phoes goes into loud speaker mode on its own... its annoying.
I had the same problem, but it it resolved itself after a few days. Maybe it is some dirt behind the home button.
It's there again! This time on Darky Rom 2 R1.
Same here. Stock SGS2 KG2 rom. Anyone found a fix for this ?
Had my phone since launch and it started to do this a couple of days ago and also draining the battery within 4 or 5 hours because the cpu was in constant use. Also i couldnt turn the phone off, it would just reboot and wouldnt charge. I had the same theory about the usb jack but didnt seem to make any difference. I did a hard reset but the problem was still there, strangely the phone appears to have sorted itself out not and is running fine!

Car Mode!!

My phone keeps deciding to go into car mode of its own accord!
This is both on MIUI and LeeDrOiD.
The phone also automatically goes into speaker phone mode whenever I make or receive a call.
Is there any way to disable car mode, or is there a hardware problem with my phone?
Cheers
I'm having the same problem, if you go into setting, car dock, you can uncheck "auto launch car dock" or something similar. It will stop it from entering car mode, but it will still default the speaker to on.
Delivered mine back at the shop today, they hadn't seen it before, but guessed it was a HW problem.
Just changed to AlienMinds CM7 and the problem has disappeared. Hopefully if I go back to sense it will stay fixed!

I don't what happen but it went away for me but I thinks it hardware related also.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
I'm not too sure about why it keeps shifting to Car Mode, but as far as the activation of the speaker every time you get a call, all I can say is that, that's what it supposed to do anyway when in Car Mode.
If, for any reason, you had that problem even when your DHD was not in car mode, my guess would be that there's something up with either your gyroscope or with your proximity sensor.
I killed Car Mode and got away with it
Car Mode would pop up constantly on my HTC Incredible 2. It had nothing to do with the usb. Most times, the phone wasn't even plugged it and Car Mode would still pop up and Yes, I could click on it and disable it. For about 5 secs, then it was back. The worst part was that it would force-close the program that I was in to launch. It took me about 8 hours of research. Car Mode is a system app, and therefore can not be removed like other applications. You have to root your phone then delete, freeze or rename. Ok by me, but rooting apparently isn't stable yet for the Incredible 2 if you have a later os version than 2.2. Guess what? I have 2.3. No problem, how do i revert. Oh, i find out, you can't without resetting the phone to factory, which by the way is what verizon support suggested. I thought not before I back up, but lo and behold you can't back up more than contacts and pics without rooting. Arrrrgh! Next, I looked for an app to help me battle this devil Car Mode, so I tried apps from Amazon and market:
Advanced task killer Free
Astro
Gemini App Manager
Dock Nothingness
Dock no-op
Disable car home
and NONE of them worked, at least not for the Incredible 2.
I had a new idea, if you can't beat them, join them so I installed the latest version of Car Dock Home, hoping that at least it would give the option to not launch. Nope, didn't work. Luckily, I'm good at my job just because I don't give me 'easily'. Anyway, finally on my 14th try, I used 'DockNothing Free' from Amazon. At first, I didn't think this worked either. There was no input screen or settings but that's because the app doesn't initiate until the Car Mode launches, then it allows you to choose to select DockNothing as the default program. I had to do that 3 times: 1) Car Panel 2)Car Dock 3)Home Dock. Now I actually see a little popup that says 3 tasks killed. YEA!
Sorry for the long post, but I'll bet if you're here, you are going crazy because of Car Mode. And I read a lot more than just this much to get mine fixed.
ps. Car Mode actually looks pretty neat and seems useful IN THE CAR. But I have been too afraid to release the monster to check it out. I might at the next update. Might....
Well, got mine back.. they had only done a factory reset and an update, and now the problem is gone. So I guess atleast for my case it was software related..
The funny thing is, I did a factory reset, and had the latest update before I delivered mine for service.
have the same issue with my dhd.
in many geman forums you find the hint that is has something to do with a broken micro-usb and the dhd can't reognize if its plugged in to a dock, or not.
If i plug in a sumple usb-charging-cable neither the car dock starts nor the loudspeaker would turn up.
i took a good look on my micro usb slot and couln't find anything strange.
Anyway, i cleaned it up very well and removed any little fuzz i found.
But i still have this issue.
has anyone an idea how the dhd recognizes if its plugged to an dock or an charging cable???
thats seems to be the key to the Problem
Possible soultion

maybe a possible solution, but as you mentioned i'm afraid to make it even worst.
so, as long as i have guarantee on it i think i bring it to a dealer to send it back to HTC, maybe i'll get a brand new phone, though it ****s me up to have it wiped after that.

Mine has been doing this too. I don't even have to push any buttons sometimes. It's happened when all I do is move my phone. I know it's not my headphones 'cause it's done it without anything plugged in. I've tried the clean ROM and Nuckin's ROM
It seems to do that too when I touch the grip sensor......

Do you have the sensor on? I don't but it still does it
I'm not sure if this is related, but I've noticed sounds in general are messed up.....like when I plug the phone into a charger...the confirmation beep is almost never smooth and clean....there is static or distortion in the sound effect......my ringer too....really all the sound out of the speaker that I've listened to. It is minor but still annoying. I haven't used the MP3 playing function on this phone since reflashing recently.
but my sound issue has been around on all the EC07 flashes I've done

My sound for plugging in USB has been laggy since imnuts hacked kernel. But that has been the only buggy sound

I think I misunderstood what was meant by 'skipping'. My phone does something where it sounds almost like there is a short in the connection for a second. And before i switched to t1231's reclean, there were times where I'd have to reboot my phone to get my headphone jack to work at all.
Here is my question. And the point where i probably sound like an idiot. Could this have something to do with voodoo? I know the recovery kernel is no voodoo, but I wonder if there is some correlation. I really don't know enough about voodoo to call this anything more than an idea I'm throwing out to see if it sticks, but if anyone more knowledgeable than me wants to chime in on it...
okay its deffintly the grip sensor i just went back to imnuts stock ec03 rom and it does it when ever i touch the phone my question is, is there any way to completly disable it because i use my phone for music more than anything.
actually scratch that im an idiot lol you can turn of active grip sensor in the settings and now it dosnt do it near as bad.
I actually don't think it was the ROM that did it. I think it was the new hacked kernel imnuts put up. Before that kernel my phone never did this. And it skips even though my grip sensor is off
You know that kernal might be it none of this happened before but it shouldn't matter now after I went back to ec03
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
Even though I don't think all those who replied in this thread were describing or even experiencing the same sound issues, I have solved, it would seem, the problem I was having with some sounds sounding distorted, like when plugging my phone in to my computer.
I wiped the cache partition and dalvik cache trying to solve a different issue, and now my sounds are all clean and pure as they once were.
now its all sound videos will just freeze and stutter sometimes when i touch the sensor
okay so i was just curious i decided to go back to completly stock dl17 and unroot after everything got booted i tested the music and it dosnt freeze at all anymore only slightly skips when you turn the screen off but the grip sensor dosnt mess up at all. so tommorrow im going to reroot go back straight to ec07 and see what happens i know for a fact it didnt skip when i first tried ec03.

Help My Nexus 4 is a mute...literally

I got a nexus 4 but I noticed that its a mute...
No sound.. Even at the highest volume.
But the strange thing is when I unlocked it...and after a reset.. The sounds works for a few minutes and then the phone goes mute again.. I locked it again and the sounds returns again for a few minutes...
It not a speaker problem defiantly...
Any suggestions???

My Dad had a similar problem on his iPhone 2G once and it was to do with the headphone jack. Try plugging something into the headphone jack then playing some music before taking the headphones out then playing again. I know it seems weird but it worked for my Dad and it won't take long so it's worth a try. It's not very likely to work though because his iPhone was a solid 3 years old at the time and very beaten up, you probably haven't done similar damage to your phone in such a relatively short time period.

thanks for your suggestion...
tired but to no avail... i noticed this is most likely a software issue... as after a reboot ..sounds works perfectly for a period of time (30 sec.... 10 mins) then after that ... sounds goes off (playing about... going to settings etc...)... and the only possibility to fix this is to reboot..
this happens on stock 4.2, 4.2.2, Cm10.1 RC1, Xylon, etc..
can't seems to pinpoint the fault...it seems to go to mute... but the volume rocker still shows volume is on... and move it up and down does not solves it..
when plug a headphone into the unit, is it supposed to show a head phone is plugged in ?? i don't seems to get that..

I would reflash a factory image in fastboot, if that doesn`t solve the issue it may be a hardware issue that requires repair (relock the bootloader in that case).
BTW do you have sound with music, youtube etc?
I had a similar problem when i flashed the Sony sound pack ported from xperia z. Every single sound vanished from the device, even speaker and mic when making a call! Restored a backup and it has since worked fine!

If you can, flash back to stock and RMA it. This isn't a common or normal issue and you probably won't be able to fix it yourself that easily.
