How do i change the language to english? - Galaxy S I9000 General

PLease help i cant seem to change the language from dutch to english please guide me. i was told if i insert an english sim that would do it.. but it didnt work....

I was stuck with Russian after a firmware flash myself, It didn't change automatically so I had to find out how to do it manually
Tap the left button while beeing at the home screen. Choose settings (right down button on the screen, kind of a circle which looks like a toothed wheel). Browse downwards to the 10th choice (a square with the letter A and three "..." in the middle).
Press the first choice and then you should be able to change the language setting

Xperia Random Language Change

I have been using my xperia for about a month now and when I bought it, it came with a memory card to help install Arabic. The software is called Multilingual Support 3.0 from MoBiDIV.
I have it on "English with Arabic enabled" because I only need to read Arabic messages and do not want the menu in Arabic. This is all fine except sometimes when I am typing an SMS in English, the language randomly changes to Arabic and I do not know how to change it back so I have to shut the device off and switch it on again for it to go back to English input.
If anyone can tell me how to change it back to English without having to restart the phone, I would appreciate it because it is becoming very annoying. I do not need to type in Arabic and the keypad does not have Arabic letters on it anyway. If I have to type in Arabic, I can use the virtual keyboard installed.
Sorry for my long post, hope someone can help.
is your text alignment in the program set to context? and did u change the regional settings and the settings in the program to english uk? if so i cant see a reason for it to change to the right side..i have the same thin?
Yeah, it is set to context and my regional settings is set to English (New Zealand) because I like the time to be 12-hour.
It doesn't happen every time, but sometimes when I am in the middle of a message it changes to Arabic which leads me to believe that it must be some sort of keyboard shortcut such as (alt+enter) but I haven't figured it out.
I think you accidentally press the Arabic key board switch in the middle of the msg (3een)
I too have xperia with arabic Multilingual Support 3.0 from MoBiDIV
I just faced this problem today. mine is the latest ROM update. i only reinstalled MoBiDIV from the 128mb MiroSD card i got when i first bought my xperia. i found that when you press the blue function key then the shift button (fun+shift) the keyboard switchs to arabic and you can't go back to english.
the only things you can do is lock the shift key where you can have all the english litters in CAPITAL and if you unlock the shift key you'll returne to arabic
i didn't try soft reset i just disabled the arabic support restart and then re enabled arabic and i'm back to normal.

Keyboard input settings won't apply! And another question...

Hi there... I tried to change my keyboard input to the phonekeyboard, (don't exactly know the english name of this, since I'm running Danish OS), but it wouldn't apply. I'd press "OK", but nothing changed... It was still complete QWERTY, so I went back into settings, and saw it had been reset. So I tried again, OK, and back in, and it was back to Complete QWERTY... Then I downloaded TenGO Thumb, just thought it might help, but it didn't... The freaking settings won't apply! Help?
And the other issue I have is, that I can't run .exe files on my HD... It just comes up with a fail message. How to fix this? I'm desperately searching for .cab files since I can't use .exe files...
*.exe usually works only on the PC, so you have to use ActiveSync and then, after a syncronisation, launch app's setup on PC.
Oh okay. Thanks.
Any info on the keyboard settings not applying?
You can't change the keyboard settings from start->settings->input, its some sort of bug I think.
Instead you can change it doing this:
-go to any menu that allows keyboard typing and you will notice that near the virtual keyboard popup button there is a small arrow facing up, if you tap that arrow a menu will popup and you can change the keyboard settings there compact/full/etc , and it works!

[Q] Hardware Keyboard layout

How can i change my keyboard language from english to greek . I go to menu , settings , language and keyboard , touch input , settings and the default language is only english and nothing else .I want to put there the greek language so i could write with greek with my hardware keyboard . Thank you
Sorry if this is a silly question, but does your phone have an English hardware keyboard, or a Greek one ?
My phone have an English hardware keyboard but it has an option to choose in settings for other languages to the harware keyboard and the only option in english too choose If i have other option in the greek language i choose the other language like aekmap in windows mobile
I see there's an option to select Greek for the on-screen keyboard. But as you say it only shows English for the hardware keyboard.
So you want to re-map the keys ? I'm sure there must be others with a similar requirement.
Yes i want to remap the keys Maybe with a programme maybe with root because the same phone is celling to Greece too but the HTC here did not help me !!!
I've done a quick search on google for "G1 keyboard layout" and found that those guys could edit a .bin file in /system/usr/keychars/ with hex edit and it wasn't too difficult.
How different can it be?
Dont want to hijack the thread but i had a slightly different idea.
I dont much use the Right FN, Shift and custom keys and search.
What about a script to make these Cursor Keys like the one that works on the optical pad? I saw a script to make the Optical pad pressing Wakeup the screen. I think this could be done too. I miss cursor keys that can be pressed constantly to scroll, not just with the optical pad.
Here's a thread from the G2 forums about key mapping, it might help point you in the right direction ?

[Q] Virtuous ROM Swap Input Method

Hi,
I originally uses the stock rom (localized for hong kong).
The difference between this variant and the European version is that the "sym" button is also the key for swapping between chinese and english input method when using hardware keyboard.
When I flash to Virtuous 0.9, the sym button is used as ".com" function so I'm not able to change the input method.
I've also tried the european swapping method of "alt+spacebar" but failed.
Can anyone suggest a mod for that? Thanks and sorry for my poor English!
I can provide a dump for the hong kong rom if it helps.
go into setting refered for keyboards and select touch input..find the submenu for hardware keyboard and select the 2 languages you want (in your case english and chinese)..close everything and go to any space that you can type, to test (e.g sms) then start typing..probably the default language to type would be english...now hit the magnifying lense button which is near the bottom right corner of the hardware keyboard (looks like a search button)..try typing , and you will see that the language has changed
now i dunno if this is a bug or snything else, but if you REtry to switch the same way back to english it seems to stuck..you can just tap anywhere in the text and then try to type and everything is great...really,not an important issue..Sorry if i am not being very detailed right now but i am currently on cm , not virtuous, so i just told you what i remember from heart..
Give me feedback if this worked for you or not and i can go for a quick nandroid to see it out myself..
Enjoy Spring Festival mate
Thank you for the detailed reply!
In the hardware keyboard settings, I could only find "Default language" and "Prediction".
The "default language" has three options, "English", "倉頡" and "拼音" respectively, where the last two are Chinese input methods.
It just pop out a search menu when i pressed the magnifying button.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Okay..some things i might forgot..make sure android keyboard is un-ticked and you are using the htc ime..also did you try typing into an area that you are supposed to type text in, or like in browser url are, sms contact name input field , email address input area?if you use the lense button in one of these it is mapped to do other things, like check ur contact list, or your email address favourites..
try a notepad..or a reply in this forum for example..or an sms typing area.
Sorry but there's no option for "android keyboard" in sense-based roms.
I've tried the magnifying glass in sms typing area. It just pops out the "search message" screen.
While the address bar comes out when I tried to press the button when replying forum messages.
Appreciate your help very much! Thank you!
bump for advice.... thanks!
Hey,
There could be an other way. You could try to get your language change button back.
In /system/usr/keylayout you'll find the layouts of the keyboard. If you have a copy/backup of your original keyboard layout, you could just use that one instead.
I havent tried it myself, but there is a change to TAB. But I don't know which value it should be in your case.
Mybe it helps you, good luck

[Q] Android 3.2 English International keyboard (with accents)

Hi there, it's my first post...
I've used to have on default android keyboard the International English Keyboard enabled, but after a factory reset on my A500 I can't type accents anymore...
I take a look on: Settings/configure input methods/Android keyboard
And the only "Active input methods" are: English (US) Keyboard, English Voice
I don't have a International English Keyboard...
Before the reset accents worked fine, I just needed to long press a vowel key and a menu shows on text editor. But now this ain't working anymore.
Besides that, another different behaviour: before the reset the keyboard was very much like a real one (a hardware one) when I hold shift key I could press another key and that other was typed on upcase. Now it don't work too.
I asked this also on android enthusiasts (stack xchange).. lets see maybe somebody know whats happening...
Somebody knows how back it the way it was before?
