windows mobile layout is very ugly! - HD2 General

Hey peeps,
I've been using hd2 for around 2months now and I love it. im still using the uk tmobile 1.72 stock version and im pretty content with it tbh
i love to customise, tweak and experiment there are endless possibilities thanks to the devs/chefs on this forum who will keep this dying breed of a device going for as long as possible.
forgive me for my stupid question but in regards with the windows mobile part of the device which is very ugly and boring are there any themes for a different layout? maybe just change the background colour ? or do i need to install a non stock ROM? im really happy with sense & touchflo3d which i think is fantastic
secondly i didnt want to ask this but im starting to pull my hair out, can anyone tell me how i go about changing the 'notes' program icon?? simply because i do not know where the program is located on the device? i can select it as a quicklink thats about it also im using jwmd icon changer
if you get a second to answer i appreciate it

go to settings -menu -all settings -today and choose a theme from the list.........
for your icon notes should be under office in jwmd......
hope that helps ......

howmany people go back to there original themes after downloading another one??

i dnt know if its only me but for some reason i always revert back to my original windows mobile today screen after i have tried some new ones. like they say the original is always the best.
anyone else like me out there?
Not yet, but I must confess I've been using my Magician and Hermes just for three years now. So maybe the moment I switch back to the origanal T-Mobile theme will come anywhere in the future LOL.
Now using a customised Ultimate Launch setup from Rumball. And have used many themes before like Throttle Launcher, Wisbar Advance, HTC Home.
It's all about being happy, isn't?
Just my 2C.
well, everytime installing a theme or add-on or plugin, i always return the standard HTC Home...for me it is the best, because i get attuned on the standard screen...

I understand you very well and i think what may be behind that backward to original theme.
Ofcourse there are many reasons like:
Themes design in a way that tiered our eyes
Themes with customization limits
Themes that eat a lot of memory
Themes that crash our pda's
etc etc etc
In my case i think i reach to a Software that a use for sometime now and and don't think i will change or reverse to another one.
I use the last WAD2 software and none of the reasons that i mention happens with this software.
I love it
I really don't under the attraction of some of the themes that many people use - 97 tiny icons on the front page.
I use a combination of
* photo contacts
* favourites
* calender
* Inbox
in the day and switch over to "samsung today" in the evening when I am out and about or in the pub.
I'm using Spb Mobile Shell, and some how I always come back the the 1.2.1 default theme. A lot of fancy themes out there. But the original one is crisp, clean and functional. Just the way I like it.
and i thought it was just me that felt this way...
Instaled SPB Mobile shell - download greatball's diamond theme
Uninstalll
Install
Uninstall
Install and have now still 2 months
Diamond original theme
- change
- back to my old
-diamond theme
- old with black top (like diamond)
- old with normal top, bottom black like original
- old with top like diamond, start menu like diamond....
- old like this up + green ehm.... choose?
- original diamond with my wallpaper :-D
This my history
I've used rlToday for a long time with a simple analog clock with sms email and missed call indicators only. I love using it because it is lite on memory and I can't accidently click anything on the screen. But as of late I was using HTC Home for the weather and music portion. As for the really nice themes that people make they only last at best a week with me then I go back. I guess they are just too much for my simple mind lol.
I have not went back to the original theme once changed. But, I change themes to get a newer & different home screen.
I change my device almost every week, at least ever since I joined xda! Every week there is a new theme, or a new launcher. Right now I am just waiting for WAD2 to be complete, and I'll probably create my theme, then stick with it for hopefully a while. I think I spend more time changing items on my Touch, then I do actually use it !
Not to mention, I have had a new ROM almost every few days since I starting building.
I've tried a lot of plugins. I started with the HTC Home Customizer. WAD and WA2 followed. Tried a lot of things with Ultimatelaunch and i'm using Throttlelauncher right now.
All previous configurations evolved to the theme i use right now. I download a lot of themes for different plugins and get new ideas every time to update my current theme.
I'm definitely not going back to the original HTC plugin. It's good, but there are a lot of things i don't use or are better of mapped under a hardware button. Throttlelauncher with plugins, iContact, Diamond Dialer and Diamond Comm Manager is my favorite combination at the moment.
That's for now... don't know what's happening tomorrow.
i switch themes and apps if not daily then every other day..
im addicted!
I'm the same way.

heheeh, it is amazing how look a like we are !!!!
The "out of the box" theme is all but useless to me, a Touch owner. The cube serves no useful function other than the quick dialer, as none of the other programs it launches are useful.
I tried a lot of themes and plugins over the months, but none of them were really useful to me. In the end I created this one, which is a combination of rlToday and UltimateLaunch. Having spent the time to create my own icons, figure out how to make buttons that adjust flight mode and mute/vibrate, I can't imagine I'll ever use another theme than this.
With a little bit of patience, I've managed to create a theme that makes the Start menu and the stylus completely irrelevant, and using my device much more efficient. I still tweak it from time to time, and I'm still hopeful of learning how to make graphics change as battery charge changes, but that's not something that affects productivity, so it's not a priority for me.
I've found "theme nirvana"
AJ
Everytime I install those themes, I go back to the stock themes in less than a week

Customizing apearance of TF3D

Hi,
Recently I have bought my new Topaz and I run original WM 6.5 ROM without any mods or custom staff. I saw here in the forum some really nice customizations but I am totaly confused about how to install them or what do i need to do berfore I can install them. I read here about custom ROMs and other things but I'm not so hurry to do that stuff because I consider it as a big hit to the phone. In fact I want only some graphical enchantments to the TF3D like transparent bars and coloured icons in top bar (like the battery icon would be coloured and showing how many % of energy remain) and if it is possible I saw shortcuts to some apps below the clock in the home page.
So is it necessary to flash a new ROM or is it possible to do it on the stock one? Is it related to the version of manila? (I tried to get version of my manila but i really can't find that information - I looked into settings but I didn't see it there)
Any help would be much appreciated,
thanks

this is currently not possible for TouchFlo3D/Sense 2.1 users...but one of the developers here is currently working on a project that may just provide that shortly...so keep checking on that.

Thank you, that taskbar is exactly what I was looking for.
And about that transparency, I have tried WallHD but it looks like it is not making bars transparent but it changes them with a new picture which means that if you open an application with bars, you'll not have them black but a part of your background picture and I don't like that.
I'll also try to find transparent slider but I didn't have time to do a big search
But the biggest problem is that I really can't find my exact version of Manila. It should be written in settings -> about but I don't have it there. Then I read that in newer versions it is located in settings -> all settings -> system -> device information -> software tab. There's nothing too, I don't even have a software tab.
BTW My phone came with Win 6.5 preinstalled (maybe this will smehow help). Can you please give me some advice what to do, if there is any soft that can somehow get it for me?
Thanks
Hi Tommy
Glad the link was of assistance. Re. finding your Manila version details I have to say that I suffered from a similar issue. In the end it was solved as a by product of installing what is IMHO a must have app; TD2 Tools. Installing this application (which is freeware but I reckon is well worth a donation) provides access to a number of features not available through the stock interface and also Manila and other device information that is useful.
Take a look at the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536410
It is a large thread but the download link is on the 1st page and yo can get a view of what it does by covering the first few pages. having said that the best way is to install and review.
So far the current release has provide to be very stable...for me at least.
Enjoy!
Balders
Oh, thanks, I had that app already but I didn't notice that it is writen there. Finaly my searching for manila is in the end
And I agree it is a must have app

Blue Skin Help Please

Hi!
New around here so please be patient.
My HD2 is also my very first Windows Smart Phone, so please excuse my lack of knowledge.
My query is this:
I'm looking for a skin/theme (I'm not sure) that will make all wallpapers/backgrounds to appear blue.
Do I need to install just wallpapers, or will there be more I need to do to give my phone the nice blue I'm looking for.
Could any of you guys also please let me know where to find such a thing, and how I need to go about to install everything.
I've tried for the last few days to go through all these pages looking for help, but I get a bit overwhelmed by everything.
I've already got the blue theme selected in my Today folder, but I'd like all the backgrounds to appear a nice deep blue.
Also, is there any way to make the boxes surrounding the home screen's software buttons disappear? I'd still like the descriptive functions to be there but without those boxes.
I'd really love everything to be a nice smooth blue.
I'm sorry to ask these questions that will probably be silly to you guys, but I'd really like to get my new phone the way I like it.
Thanks very much.
Stephen
..cheers everyone for all your help!
Superb!
To make the software icons transparent use Co0kies Home Tab Cab 1.6.1 together with his CHTEditor.
There is much written on the forums for having consistent backgrounds across all screens etc.
The link below will get you started on your background requirements.

Good to see sarcasm still has it's fans.
In regards to your 'theme', you'd be best off finding a background image with the colour you prefer then copying it to the phone, and selecting it as the background image in:
Settings -> Personalize
The transparent boxes around the quicklinks (I'm guessing thats what you mean)
http://www.ad-grafiska.se/HD2/visual_mods/Touch X transparent quicklinks when asign app.cab
Found from this thread after less than 2 mins searching in the "HD2 Themes and Apps" forum:

Need some help with HD2 OS customizing.

I'm somewhat new to the UI customizing and need some help to get the desired effect, here's what i want to do, i want to keep the HTC Sense all contacts page, (only cause the functionality is amazing) the htc video and music player, the htc calender, and the HTC settings page (but for it to be set up like the manila windows settings), but i want the home screen to be the Manila Win6.5 screen. any and all help will be appreciated.

I think you're getting the terms confused a little there (which is understandable with this stuff). Manila is just the name for the behind-the-scenes elements of what you know as Sense, which runs on top of WM.
Unfortunately, all of the items you mentioned there are part of Sense, and while you can turn off most of the other tabs you don't want, you can't turn off the home tab without turning Sense off altogether...and when you do that, you then can't access any of the other Sense functions (vid/music players, calendar, settings, etc).
Okay, so is there and tweaks for WM that allow me to get the functionality like the mentioned features of the sense UI? or any that are better, cause as much as i love the SPB stuff, my dad uses it and i just wanna be different...or are there any tweaks for the sense UI that i can use to get what i want? because i kinda want plain WM homepage, but have the links on the homepage go to the parts of the sense UI? (i'll be happy to clarify anything i just said...

I noticed when I used the standard (titanium windows mobile) when I clicked on a few things they would go to the sence version of it but I dont think you can have both...search for titanium wm 6.5 themes and you might find something you like. Sense and SPB mobile shell are way different. Install this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625483 in my opinion much nicer than SPB mobile and you can still use all your sense icons...search it on youtube for demos
I do like that one, and i know sense and SPB are real different, my dad uses it but i dont want to. D: BTW i got c0okies home tab that toreone suggested, and I LOVE IT! it gives me the freedom to customize it the way i want it, AND it keeps the functionality and the appearance of HTC sense. It's all clear, but that's the thing...aside from the messaging client in this build, there's no way to access the sense modules unless sense is running. And when sense is running, you can't access either the standard WM today screen, or the Titanium home screen (the new version of stock WM UI, also built in to your HD2).
Your next option would probably be to just find a 3rd-party app for each of the functions you mentioned...there's plenty of choices in each category, with the exception of the settings. For those, it's either the stock WM settings, or the sense settings, and it sounds like what you're asking for is kind of a hybrid of the two. Since the WM settings are available at the root of the start menu (if you don't have them there when you turn sense off, that can be added), that would be the easiest way to go with that. To find your options for media players and calendars, just do a search on the whole of the xda forums and you'll find a bunch. I don't know much about the calendar apps, but the most common media players in use around here include:
-nitrogen
-coreplayer/tcpmp
-kinoma
-pocket player
EDIT: in the time it took me to write all that, I see now that you've taken toreone's advice and found the joy of CHT...so it's probably a non-issue now anyways

It's called the taskbar, and the one at the bottom where the soft buttons are is just called the softkey bar, just fyi
You can change the color and style of both of those with something like what you'll find in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5807605&postcount=1
Now, if what you want to change is the notification icon set that appears on the taskbar, there's a bunch of different options for that. I personally use and love dinik's anastasia set, found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679518
I've also used and liked brian's gfreek edition taskbar set, and the phoenix edition B&W taskbar set, at the links below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520547
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=602295
So could i use the taskbar and softkey bar color changer along with the icon sets?

yes, those elements aren't interdependent like that. most any visual part of sense can be changed independently of the others...but not all though

Black and White Metal 2.5 2013

See if you like it. It is White Metal 2.5 2013 for a 6.5 build. Tell me what you think.
Also including a different contact icon if you want it. Not necessarry but a different style in case you do not like the contact tab with the human outline.
I am running mighty rom Windows 6.5 with Manila 2.5.2013
I was not happy with the centering of the Calendar date on the tray icon-so I included a cab with the fix.
Facebook Tab. You must already have the tab in order to use this. I installed it from Meltwaters and then alterred his manila for tabs
lubbad85, you are my hero! I have been looking for this everywhere. I don't know why but for some reason I've liked this style of slider ever since I've seen it on another carrier's phone.
I installed it asap and I like how it works! It works like a charm, I love it. Great job lubbad85, you rock! The only thing I would probably do is just better the screen icons when you change to a different tab on the slider. Those stock white ones will do but I would just see if I could replace them with any other better icons. Just my personal opinion. Other than that, you created a beautiful slider!
Quick question, I'm running C0okie's Home Tab. How does that extra notification bar appear? (The one on top of the actual sider)

In the options for cookies home tab you can put the extra notification bar. I think under miscelaneous The bar is a bit redundant though.
Glad you like the slider. Give me an example of what kind of slider you really want. If you give me a direction I can build one. Manila is very forgiving. If you screw it up you have only to delete the manila file that you put into windows and the phone's ROM will build it back the way it was before the new manila was used.

I got it! Thank, yet again! As far as the slider goes, it works like a charm! I really don't have any other suggestions for it as of right now. Maybe later as time goes by and I think of something. But if you implement any improvements or make any changes to it please post it up, I will gladly test it out. Thank again!
lubbad85, I found a small little defect that you might consider. When I slide to a desired tab on my touch flo, I find that the tab icon I chose has a blurry icon. My ROMs won't be updated before August if someone doesn't find some critical bugs
This slider really fits the "old" Sense 2.5 skin, however it has got some images that could be a bit more polished... Ach, and some icons could be a little re-sized, because they aren't this same size. Anyway overall the experience is great! So keep up this wonderful work, first time that I like something that isn't made by ShowTime7.
right.

You're going to run the .cab file from your storage card and install it onto your device when prompted to. Immediately after the slider is installed it is going to ask you to restart so the changes can take effect. You hit "yes" or "ok" (Not sure which option it gives you) Then, once the device restarts and turns on, the slider will appear and should be already installed automatically. You shouldn't have to do any other additional setting changes after you restart so the slider takes effect.
Hmm I installed all 3 cabs and it just told me "white metal 2.5 2013.cab was successfully installed on your device" (same thing with the other 2) but it didn't prompt me if I wanted to restart the device.
Any ideas why? this blue at&t theme is ok but this B&W Metal theme looks amazing.

Two ways to install. One is you first turn off sense
1. start menu
2. settings
3. today screen
4. items
5. uncheck htc sence
6. install cabs
7. and then go back and check htc sense
Or install the cabs and then soft reset

You just want the sense tab-in other words you already installed the other files neccessary for the tab? So just the tab icons?
If so here is the cab for just the tab sense icons in white to match the set. I cannot test it since I have not installed the control files for this tab.
