Hi,
Been using custom ROMS on my Hero since new with no probs. Last Thursday after receiving an SMS I am unable to make or receive phone call and txts. My mobile internet still works fine. When a phone call is made to my phone the caller receives a message that the number is no longer available, though if I switch the phone off the caller gets put through to my voicebox. My provider has confirmed that there are no blocks etc on my phone or account, this is also proved as when I put my SIM in another phone all works as usual.
I am using Villain ROM 12 and the latest radio. I have set the phone to GSM only, automatic etc. I have reinstalled the ROM wiping everything etc and have tried flashing different radios.
The only thing I can think to try now is to flash a stock ROM. Which would be best (its a UK orange phone) and will I then lose root etc.
Most probably though I fear the cellular chip is dead.
Any other ideas and which stock ROM should I try, oh yes I bought the phone of ebay new and unopened, will I be able to return it somewhere for repai HTC ???
Thanks for reading and for any help
Hmmm,... Strange one is this.
First thing I would try if I were you is to flash a generic ROM through your custom recovery,....
One from http://android.modaco.com/content/h...oms-radios-in-update-zip-format-for-gsm-hero/
Worth a shot,....
If you get the same result,.... Run an RUU .exe. This will unroot so if it is successful you will have to go through the whole rigmarole of installing a custom recovery again to be able to flash custom ROMs.
Dont know what else to suggest sorry.
Oh well, tried stock roms and still the same problem. Looks like it must be the pgones hardware.
Any one recommend a good repairer here in the UK
Cheers

My Phone:
...Make: Dream
...SIM Card: Unlocked
...ROM: CyanogenMod Latest (as of Jan 04, 2010)
...Other Applications Installed: PhoneFusion
...Service Provider: T-Mobile
When Issue Started: 1 week prior
User's Phone:
...Make: Samsung (unknown model)
...SIM Card: Locked
...Service Provider: AT&T
-----
Issue: User cannot call me. It rings once and then disconnects. User can call any other T-Mobile phone in my area. I have no other issues calling or receiving
-----
Troubleshooting steps that have been performed:
...Turn off both phones for 2 hours - fail
...Take out SIM card and put back in - fail
...Kill any call forwarding on phones - fail
...User goes to AT&T store and receives new SIM card and phone - fail
...Checked for possible billing issues or blocked (banned) numbers - fail
...Wiped back to factory defaults (with the original ROM included that had the telnet vuln) and followed the steps to upgrade back to the latest version of CyanogenMod rom - fail
* Fail means it did not successfully resolve the issue of me not being able to receive the user's call
Anymore troubleshooting suggestions?
Maybe the att user cant call tmobile users or their phone is messed up?

Topic is fine and is defiantly not filled with any misconceptions:
dilemma - is a problem offering at least two solutions or possibilities, of which none are practically acceptable.
I would try another rom. As recently as yesterday my friend had a problem with his hero (CDMA) where he was unable to sent a text message to his girl friend. I fixed it by rooting and installing a custom rom.
First, I would unroot and get the tmo OTA update and see if it works (you could also try the custom stock rom with root here if you don't want to.
Second, try a different rom and make sure you don't install any applications.
Third, what SPL do you have, and radio for that matter.
Upgrade to the 26I radio in my sig to make sure it isn't something that easy. Remember, if you flash the nbh file it will downgrade your radio as well.
If all else fails, I would try the 1.33.2005 SPL, be sure you meet the requirements both board type and radio before flashing.
Hey Evilkorn,
Thanks for responding. Ace had posted that comment before I reworded the post. I will admit it was kind of confusion.
I am actually not sure of what I have other than CyanogenMod 4.2.12. Is there someplace I can go to find which version I have. If it would be easier to start from the beginning, as far as rooting and then updating everything from the factory defaults, I wouldn't mind. Time to me is not as important as getting the issue resolved.
I just saw on the homepage of Cyanogenmod.com that they released 4.2.13. Wonder if that would fix my issue. CM Updater isn't finding the ROM update yet so perhaps I should manually download and flash.
only thing I could suggest tell your friend to block the call (*67) and make sure that the caller isnt blacklisted, open the contact and select edit, make sure they arent checked to send call to voicemail
I went through the same thing a month ago, after it was all said and done...By mistake, I blacklisted the friend(which it turns out, can be easy to do if you have "fat fingers" when answering a call lol)
AT&T had thought the same thing. Actually, I just upgraded to 4.2.13 and it fixed my issue. There is a good chance that if I wiped ALT+W and then re-applied the previous .12 CyanogenMOD ROM that that could fixed my issue.
I never really though it was the ROM since I could get a hold of everyone else. How odd.
Thanks for all your help!
I'm having a 'strange' issue where the phone part of my HD2 doesn't seem to work. This is an HD2 that was locked to T-Mobile, but is now unlocked. I have used it with my O2 sim for around a day and a half just fine until some time this morning it lost the phone connection, and doesn't show the operator for this reason. Obviously I can't make or receive any calls or send or receive any texts. The 'Phone' is turned 'On' in the Comm Manager settings, and I've tried to turn it on and off, hard reset, reflash ROMs, and so on.
I have flashed HardSPL and was using EnergyROM, but have now flashed back to the latest official HTC ROM (1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE) which has radio 2.06.51.07 and protcol 15.30.50.07U. I also tried HTC ROM 1.43 (radio 2.04). Before flashing the official ROMs, I had not flashed any radios so it was left as the original that came with the phone.
The 'strange' part is that mobile web/internet works fine. When reflashing to stock ROMs (or any ROM for that matter) it finds the SIM just fine and recognises it as O2, and comes up asking which settings I want to use (it finds a couple of valid possibilities, O2 UK, Tescoe Mobile and one other), so it must find some sort of network.
Has anyone had any issues like this? Is there anything I can do, or is this a case for contacting HTC?
The SIM works just fine in my old Touch Pro.
Thanks for any help!
I have the unbranded hd2 with hspl on, never had the sms issue. being a great fan of xda flash my fone at least 3 times a week. Every thing worked fine until i flashed the latest o2 rom 1.72.xx and i was hit with the sms bug... 'UNABLE TO SEND SMS' with a ! in a small triangle in the message. as this was never a issue i thought flashing the 1.43.xxx the original rom will fix it... nope did not work, tried 1.66 and a custom rom too but no luck.
I have been using a voda sim before i had the issue so after the official o2 rom i got the issue. when i tried flashing the above mentioned roms i had the voda sim in my phone and did not fix it.
Here is what i did..
1. Put an o2 ( or any other sim in your case apart from the sim you have the issue with).
2. flashed the 1.43.xx official rom (flash the original rom your device came with if your phone is branded flash the generic rom 1.43.xx or 1.66 so you can proceed with the next step)
3. run the full setup as you normally would. like - setup time, wifi, agree to location.. etc. and importantly setup the automatic connection for the new sim in the device.
4. sent a test message with the o2 sim.
5. shut down device not taking battery out.
6. insert my voda sim ( the orginal sim the one you use daily)
7. power device and go through the full setup again in step 3.
and to my surprise the hd2 was bak in full force.. Hopefully this may help you guys as this has certainly helped me.
cheers.
So i recently unlocked my bootloader to get back into android modding i tried a few roms and everything was fine until recently i installed one of openkirin ROM-s and noticed that i cant make calls (phone instantly ends call) nor can i recieve them (when someone calls me nothing happens on my end but on theirs it rings) however i can text and mobile data works without any issues, which is strange.
