HTC is beginning to piss me off with their lies - EVO 4G General

One big problem with navigation:
If you turn the volume of the speaker up playing music, gps loses satellites. The speaker in the back interferes with the gps radio.
HTC's reply? A complete and utter lie - it's overheating, and we turn off gps for you so the phone doesn't overheat. I tested this just now. It's the speaker or having something to do with the volume of the speaker. Heat in irrelevant in this specific case.
So, first they lie about the fps cap, then they lie about overheating. I'm beginning to get ticked off at these people.
P.S.
Another very small bug - when navigation is active, and you attempt to make a bt call from the bt car kit, screen turns off and the bt car kit starts to beep. I had to push the power button, and then everything worked perfect. Still, a bit annoying.
P.P.S. Oh yeah, stock rooted rom, 3.0 kernel for epson panels.

I have a stock rooted rom and running the gps+pandora radio+receiving phone calls all the time and no problems. I work on the road all day long.

You need to make the volume loud in the external speaker to lose gps.

funny i use my nav pandora etc etc all day and all together dont have troubles
if your that unhappy you can take it back and get a iphone4 just make sure you have some duct tape

why don't you use the car's speakers, instead of the phone's? i plug my phone into the radio, listen to it and adjust the volume through there. i think trying to use the speaker on the phone while i'm in the car would be a horrible experience

Do you have headphones plugged into the phone? Or are you playing the music through bt?
As I said earlier, it has to be the external speaker of the phone itself.

If your phone is rooted dont blame HTC for nothing, get a life, or an Iphone 4, like i seen so many ppl say my camera doenst work, after i rooted my Evo, cmon ppl, you know what you doing when you rooting your phone.
Ps. I am rooted with everything stock and mines work fine
Pps. Get an Apple phone, Or a motorola , I herd they dont have issues!!!

I just tried stock kernel. Same problem.
Go read the other thread. Every single person, who said they didn't have that problem, later confirmed having it after more testing.
Here's how to test it.
Go outside and turn on gps and maps. Walk like 30-40 feet, see how responsive the location marker is (it works instantaneously, both in movement and rotation).
Now switch to the music player, run a fairly loud song, turn volume to maximum. Go back to maps.
It will either say gps lost, or the location marker will be stuck in one place.
Lower the volume to zero or plug in headphones, and gps will work again.

X10i Volume & GPS map without Google?

Guys
I'd like to discuss 2 questions for the usage of our X10s.
1> In public, the Volume of the phone is really low. How do you guys cope with that?
2> The GPS software from market needs to work with Google map. But, when 3G signal is weak, the google is downloaded very slowly. Is there any GPS software that uses downloaded maps?
the Volume of the phone(during a call) is the lowest i've ever used.
too bad.
I know this may seem obvious, but have you moved the phone lower or higher? At first I thought the call volume was low, but Once I found the right ear position it's just as good as on my c905, night and day better then on my k790.

I agree with the volume but I use a headset or bluetooth and it solves the problem.Haven't tried speaker phone yet but I'm doubtful.

1. Well, I use the bluetooth headset that came with my phone (MW600) and it works perfectly. But yeah, that's pretty much the only fix for now, a headset.
2. I know that there's a couple of GPS navigation solutions that saves their maps on the SD-card. But they're pretty damn huge. Copilot is one of them! http://www.alk.eu.com/

The low volume problem is really ashame. But I wonder if SE will do some software update for it in the near future. I think this issue is the biggest for the X10, because to hear it clearly supposed to be the most basic function for a PHONE.
Using a headset does solve the problem, but not everyone likes to wear a headset nor bluetooth all the time.

1. The volume, ok it's not very high but i think it's totally enough.. even when there's traffic going by i can still hear whom i'm talking to so yea, imo it's fine

Are you sure? I believe I've got prety sensitive ears. But on a public street with cars, I have to align the phone speaker exactly to my ear hold, open my ear, press it hard, squeeze the air out, focus everything on that ear ....
Well i've had no problems sofar hearing whom i speak to (and i have tinitus, yet no reduced hearing functionality) but maby i just naturaly align the speaker very tight to my ear. Anyways, like i said i think its fine, any lower though would be to low, right now its a "not to little not to much" level.

Issues with Focus. Anyone else having these?

I have noticed a couple of issues which seem to be limited to the focus.
First, the by default the "Anti-Shacking" setting on the camera is set to "off". and there is no way to change this for good. I have to change it every-time I start the camera.
Second, the screen seems to randomly dim and light back up. I don't know if its because i'm covering the light sensor or what. But it's annoying.
Has anyone else noticed these?
Does anyone else have others?

This was noted as an issue with the phone prior to it's release, and it's currently like that for everyone. None of the settings you change in the camera app will stay after closing it.
As for your brightness issue, it probably is a case of the sensor reacting to you blocking it. I have auto brightness turned off, but have experienced what you are describing on other phones when looking over the sensor (blocking light with my head) or when I have a finger placed over the sensor
I found a new issue with mine.
I have an old Belkin 3.5mm to caset adapter. I can plug it into the phone and the music will come out of my stereo beautifully.
However, after removing the converter (once or twice) i loose the ability to use the mic on the phone(shazam and voice commands don't work unless I use a headset or perform a soft reset).
Anyone have an idea why this is. Does the phone not support standard 3.5mm jack equipment, like headphones and earphones?
it works fine with me with the newer one i had, i don't know the brand, but I have noticed at times the phone seems to mute itself =\

I've had this issue myself with the aux cable in my car. Plugging it in to listen to music works fine, after unplugging, I cannot use voice commands. I haven't purposely tried making a call afterwards, but I'm fairly certain I have received calls, unplugged it, and was able to talk normally. I'll test after work, but can confirm your issue on my end at least.
I called their support today. They ended up transferring me to the "Level 3" Support.
I told him about the camera and aux port issues. He said they were not aware of those, and even tested the camera issues on a new test unit.
Hopefully, now that they know about this, they will be able to implement a fix.
He seemed the most disturbed by the aux cable issue.
Sounds like the aux-cable issue is related to the jack thinking there is still something plugged into the jack. This is a semi-common issue on the fruit company's phones.
The headphone/headset detection works by sensing where ground is on the plug. Sometimes that sense gets "stuck"
A simple plug and unplug of any 3.5mm jack should unstick it.
*disclaimer: I don't have a Focus yet, but will this weekend.

I am aware of what's happening. Both I and the tech agreed that there must be some short happening. This is more common with 3.5 jacks that are designed for more complex functions. Such as volume control, and Video out.
Interestingly enough, he checked to see if there was Video out with these phones as with other Galaxy S series. But he couldn't find anything in their docs .

It's still an issue. Just because it happens on other devices does not mean it is acceptable. And Ive tried alot of remedies to fixing it without resets (like plugging in/out the headset or another cable).

Interesting workaround. I will try that next time it happens.
Speaker click issue when screen off
Here's a new one, anyone else having this? When my phone screen is off, sometimes I notice a periodic static click coming from the handset speaker (I don't think it's the back speaker.)
It's not a single click, but more of a stutter, which stops immediately when I turn the phone on and it shows the lock screen.
It stops if you unlock the phone, use it, and turn it off again. It DOES NOT stop if you turn the phone on but don't unlock it, and turn it off again.
I actually noticed this myself for the first time today. It was rather annoying. I was in the middle of things and so just did a soft reset. Hopefully it won't happen again any time soon. First time hearing/noticing this in almost a month (got phone on 11/8).

Call's people whilst an AUX jack is in.

I've checked high and low on the forums for something similar or a solution to my problem, but alas I can't find anything so I'm starting a thread.
As the title state's my phone rings people whenever an AUX jack is in, listening to music, or hooked up to a stereo. I've tried restoring to factory setting's also I've tried different headphones and stereo's but still no joy.
T-Mobile
HTC HD Desire HD.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Flynn.
Hmm, maybe I've got a similar probelm, I use normal 3.5mm in-ear headphones with my Desire HD and they are able to make strange things, if I gently move the jack, sometimes my phones starts a call to the latest called person, sometimes it skips to the next song, sometimes the music is paused.
I think that has something to to with the default headset funcionality, but it would be great if there was a way to lock any function other than playing music if no multi-functional headset is plugged in.
You're going to think I'm nuts but I've tried everything.
It seems to go berserk when you do a screwing motion with the 3.5mm jack. It doesn't make any difference what headphones I use whether they've got any calling buttons on them or not they just go absolutely mental.
I will admit to doing the calling bug that increases the music volume when you hang up straight after making the call.
But I still can't get around it and it's VERY frustrating, especially in the car.
The same problem
Hey, i have the same problem. This morning i was listening to music on my way to school. And all of the sudden it went berserk, started calling, skipping. What to do?
That happens if the AUX wire passes a current (many times stray) back to the phone. The phone just reacts in the way it would if a button was pressed on one of those headphones having an in-line mic/button.
A lot of times this stray current comes because of static build-up. I'm sure you guys know how to get rid of that. If it's not because of static, it might be because of faulty wiring on the audio enhancement (not usually the case), or if the audio enhancement and the phone function at hugely different potential differences (also, usually not the case).
As far as mine is concerned, freeing it of static usually helps.
One way to quickly judge if it's static that's the problem is if the call/skip/whatever usually takes place the minute you plug it in.

Search for an app on the market called "headset blocker"
NO luck
The above post helps,
However im testing the new ICS rom by Lord Clockan and twistedumbrella and there is no compatability for ICS. Wondering is anyone knows what part of the phone controls headset controls so i can mak an app to block it on 4.0?
Its a real pain as i cant play music at all,
random apps start playing music over other apps and music stops in others, skips tracks etc. SO frustrating.
Take out headphones
Blow into the jack hole
Plug back in headphones
Sorted till the next time crap builds up in there.

That headset blocker would be amazing if it would be working on ICS. Im on the LordMod Beta to.
@geinome would be amazing if you could make an app to fix that. But honestly i have no idea were in the sistem that headset control is located. Hope you can find it.
Found a Fix. Hope it helps you guys to.
I found an other App, that did solfe the problem for me eaven on ICS. The App Headset Interceptor is meant to let you choos, which Music App should receve the signal coming from the remote on the headset. But if you dont choose any from the Apps to get the signal, none dose and so none is cousing problems
Would love to post you guys the link to the market, but cant couse i dont have anouth post yet. But im sure i can sind it yourself
I hope this is solving the problem with the unwanted calls to. Couse i never had that problem, i cant test that.
you dont need any apps
you just need a needle to clean up the pocket lint inside the 3.55 jack.
for me it's usually enough to unplug the jack and plug it in again and all works well for the next month or so.

Is it just me or is Bluetooth on this phone completely borked?

I've had horrendous issues with Bluetooth -- getting it paired, placing calls, etc. Haven't seen many places reporting on this, but seems to be 6.0 related. Can we please draw some attention to this and make sure it gets fixed in 6.0.1? If not, I'm probably going to have to return the phone when I'd really rather not

There's some high battery drain related to Bluetooth being on that some folks are reporting, which appears to be more software related to 6.0.

2013 sonata se basic radio with Bluetooth
Pioneer 8500bhs, beats over ear wireless, Motorola Keylink, and waterproof portable Bluetooth speaker all work great for my 6p over BT.
The only strange thing I noticed is this, it paired fine, connects fine, shows the music I'm playing on play music fine, but unless I adjust volume down one click off max I get no audio. Lol
Since it seems like some are having issues and some aren't, I'm thinking this may be some sort of problem with different BT radio hardware

I used my UE Boom speakers with it and had no issues. Mind you, my UE Booms are linked together, so the phone was only truly paired to one, but the odd issues with one channel of audio dropping in and out that I have with my Fire Phone was not present with the 6P.

I have a question for you about the Bluetooth headphones you use. If you pause what you are listening to with the button on the headphones and keep the phone in your pocket for 15 minutes, will pressing play on the headphones resume what you were listening to? Mine won't. Many times even after just 3 or 4 minutes.
I'm still trying to figure out if it's hardware or software problem. If it does resume consistently could you let me know what build you are on? Thanks.

Thanks.

I'll try it here in a few minutes at my desk. Is your music app staying open? On my 6, Pandora or gpm would close and play wouldn't work anymore in my truck until I reopened the app.

I haven't flashed anything yet. Figured I'd unlock and get up to date soon.

The app is staying open. I'm using this exactly how I used my N6. Same apps and same pairs of Bluetooth headphones. I didn't have this problem on the N6.

Play/Pause working 9:25AM
Play/Pause working 9:35AM
Play/Pause working 9:50AM

Another Bluetooth issue thread.

Poor Audio over Bluetooth, Poor overall BT reception.
I thought it was my device and sent it back to google, they sent me a replacement and it has the same issue, if im streaming music to any device (Headphones, Speaker, Car Stereo) and cover the top of my phone its like im almost going out of range and the audio goes choppy or off, remove my hand and the audio returns to normal. Google said they have never heard of this issue before and are convinced a third device will solve the issue, i doubt it unless they have a revision 2 model.
Its not just audio, i have a watch that gets notification on the go, same thing, if the top gets covered my watch often says disconnected, take the phone out and within 20 seconds it reconnects.
Clearly there is an issue with BT on this phone, no software update (inc. N preview) addresses it, google seems unaware or uninterested in the problem, i would have addressed it a long time ago but i have been holding out for a fix before i realised how easy it is to replicate the problem.
I also have issue with it. I pair my headphones Phillips Tapster and all I hear is non-stop choppy sound(every few seconds a spike). In the beginning I thought my headphones were giving problems, but it is not the case, becase I have a few other Androids and all work fine. So it is the 6P.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a solution which I can share. I only can share what won't work in my experience:
- Factory reset(wipe);
- Return to stock if custom ROM is used;
- Changing ROMs;
- Killing all other apps except the one which uses the device currently;
- Switching off other communication services like wi-fi;

I can confirm this.
I get this as well. I can't put the phone in my pocket if I use Bluetooth headphones. I've tried different headphones, both factory M and N preview.
Mines not that bad. It used to stutter every minute or so but I turned off Bluetooth/WiFi scanning and fixed that problem. But now it just decided to start getting all staticy when the screen is turned on. Either by me text or phone calls. Haven't figured out why it's only happening at that time

What happens when you cover the top of your phone with your hands, does the audio start cutting out?

nothing happens at all. no change in sounds, no stuttering in play.
I did another FDR the other day. got everything installed again turned off wifi/bluetooth scanning and wifi itself (since im not at home) and works perfect. no skipping or stuttering at all. even the 5 seconds of stutter is gone when the screen turns on. hopefully it stays this way

I have the same problem on my car sound system (mazda 2 2016). I found a solution. I turn on the N6P bluetooth before turning on the car system (in my car it turns on when I turn on the car at the same time). When I have the N6P's bluetooth on before turning on the car I have a good conection at 100% of the times. When I forget to turn on the N6P's bluetooth before turning on the car I have a bad conection at 50% of the times.
I hope this could work on your sound systems.

I have tried 3 replacement phones and each time I speak with Google they inform me that they are not aware of any BT issue. Bull****! I can't wait to get rid of this phone. I have the same issues you have related to BT.

Thanks but i rarely turn off BT, its always available but i did go and try combinations of having it off or on pre connection and no difference, still my phone acts like the BT signal is too weak if i move around.

Thanks for confirming, im not holding any hope on the 3rd replacement either, I have had a lot of nexus devices over the years and this BT issue is unique and driving me nuts and really making me think twice about the new upcoming replacement in Q4, especially if its made by Huawei. Ive also noticed the chassis has started to buckle near the volume buttons.
well for some unknown reason the stutter when screen comes on came back. worked fine on bluetooth all weekend. then this morning i go to use my LG 850 BT headphones...and bam...stuttering. maybe LG pissed off Hauwei and they decided to cause issues with all LG items hahahaha

Apparently all CM based ROMs has the stutter issue when screen is turned on when streaming, something to do with the AudioFX, im back on AOSP ROM, no issue with screen on but still have issue when covering the top of my phone or putting in my pocket. sux.
