Files on SD card after rooting - EVO 4G General

So I rooted my Evo 4G using the OTA Simpleroot method and am using the Evo 2.1 Eclair v1.6r ROM by OMJ. My question is can I safely delete the 5 files on the root of my SD card with no repercussions? The files are: fix_permissions.log, flash_image, mtd-eng.img, part3, and recovery.img. Oops, I guess I should have posted this to EVO 4G Q&A instead of this section, I am new to this sorry...

In a word: Yes.

Cool! Thank you.

[Q] Is there a pre-rooted rom for the MyTouch 3G?

Hi
Is there a pre-rooted rom for the MyTouch 3G? (the original version - without 3.5mm jack)
I'm looking for a file that i'll just have to copy to memory card, and flash it.
i prefer the latest version - but any of this are welcome.
Thanks
Ohhhhh... did you check the development section?
You need to root your phone and flash a recovery (I prefer Amon_ra Recovery) then you'll be able to flash a ROM. Please read the dev how-to threads or Cyanogen's wiki - it's not too difficult.

Yes, there is a flashable stock file for the orignal myTouch that is version 1.5. You have to flash it from the hboot. Then there are 5 update files that you'll flash from recovery to get you all the way back to stock 2.2.1. I've got all the files in a folder in my Megaupload account, but can't link since Megaupload is blocked here at work. I'll link it when I get home.
Thanks a lot, i'm looking for it.
Here you go. You only need the sappimg and update files. If you need help flashing let me know.

Hi
i have just flashed the sappimg to my MT3
But at the activation screen i don't see the activate over WiFi - like i was expect to see on a rooted rom.
Do i need to flash all five updates to get a rooted rom?
Thanks for any help.
Woah, that's completely different from what I thought you were talking about. I thought you just meant a stock ROM. Pre-root as in "before root". You can't do what your wanting to do. You'll have to activate and then root using one of the several guides out there, such as the "New school" one in my sig.

[ruu + update.zip][MR1 aka First OTA] May 12th OTA - 1.13.605.7

(DO NOT FLASH THE OTA or the SIGNED RUU ON A ROOTED (even if it is just ENG s-off) DEVICE)
This is the same as the OTA released on May 12th 2011 and is the MR1. Confirmed by me this morning. This file will wipe /data.
Not responsible for damage or losses caused by this firmware. Use at your own risk. Flash it was an RUU (like in the root guides), not using recovery. This will wipe your data.
This should not be flashed to a rooted device, as it will likely brick. Fair warning.
OTA update (only will apply to 1.12.605.6 stock) (NOT FOR ROOTED PHONES)

Edit: Dumb post, this is the untouched version. Sorry.
Just asking this for info, but will one be able to root/reroot after flashing this RUU?

Nope, you have to name it PG05IMG.zip regardless, if not it won't work.

Ok thanks for the heads up. I just want to be clear on my options. I haven't rooted yet because i haven't really found a reason to. But if i absolutely have to in order to get this update i will, because i truthfully don't want to have to wait on VZW, because i have a feeling we'll still be waiting for a while. I'm not totally new to the rooting world, i've done it before on my G2.
So for this particular file, i need root correct?
Also if i try to install this is it gonna wipe all the data from my phone? Because honestly i rather if/when it was possible just upgrade the phone instead of having to start from scratch all over again.
non rooted wipe?
Will non rooted users' devices wipe after renaming and installing the .zip?

Nope. Just drag it to your SD and rename it to what is said above. Boot into the bootloader mode, hit the power button and it should do it automatically.

You have two options for a non-rooted phone:
Either download this file, rename it to PG05IMG.zip and copy to the root of your sdcard, use ADB to reboot to the bootloader and flash it. It's signed and untouched so you'll be upgraded to the latest version without having to root. However this will wipe your data.
Second option is to root, flash the radio only RUU, and use clockworkmod recovery to flash the stock, deodexed version of this rom, which will not wipe data. Details are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042004

No, you don't need to be rooted for this specific RUU file.
Use Astro to back up all your apps then drop this file to the SDcard, reboot to Hboot and let it do the magic.
Then go to market download Astro and install all the apps you backed up.

Anyone know if the current rooting method works with this version?

Unroot for warranty replacement

I was reading the threads for unrooting the mytouch and from what I read they only work if you rooted with gfree. I rooted via root.sh and I do have a nandroid of my stock rom. Anyone know how I would go about unrooting my phone? I am receiving a warranty replacement and I am very desperate. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

here are a couple links for you:
read this one first and make sure you are on the stock radio
use this method to unroot

Thanks for responding, but the unroot method you posted is the one I talked about in the op. The very first sentence in that thread says "will only work if you rooted via gfree" (not exact words but close). Which I did not root with gfree.

doh! my bad.... well the easiest way would be to flash the stock PD15IMG.zip in the bootloader. download this file here, name it PD15IMG and put it in the root of your SD. turn off the phone then boot into hboot(hold vol down+power button), the bootloader should automatically find the file then ask you to update. hit yes and and it should start flashing. make sure you are on the stock radio before doing this

Thanks. Do I have to be on a stock rom before flashing the PD15IMG file? Or can I be running any rom and just put the file on the root of my sd card and let it install? Will it automatically put the stock rom back on?

Figured it out. Everything is back to stock and surprisingly my phone is running smoother and faster than it has since I have been using custom roms.

@Towle- if youre on virtuous fusion with the updated radio, flash a different rom that doesnt require the radio. then revert to the stock radio, then you can go ahead and flash the stock PD15IMG in hboot. yes it will put the stock rom back on the phone and restore it back to factory conditions
@cabello80- radios can be found here
and no it will not change your hboot

Attempting to root

Picked up a mytouch for 50 bucks, trying to root it the same way I did mine, I placed the root folder on sd card, temp rooted through visionary and entered commands in terminal emulator, when I restart S is still on?
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
You have Gingerbread, 2.3.4. You can't root it this way.
Read Glacier Wiki, section "Root", subsection "Gingerbread". Link in my signature.
Hmmm I forgot about that, makes sense I rooted mine when it was fairly new and no update, thank you
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
What I did, was I downgraded my MyTouch and then rooted through ADB with gfree. I can give you the link to the guide if you want
You've gotta downgrade back to stock with the pd15img.zip file. Then u can begin the root process. I suggest using the ultimate s off thread in the development forums.

Root 2.3.4 Atrix 4G on Mac?

Hello everybody,
I was wondering if it was possible to root a Motorola Atrix 4G on a Mac? Also, do you need an SD card or can you use the internal storage built into the device? I have no access whatsoever to a windows computer.
First of all, I would like to mention that I am pretty new to this whole rooting thing. I have rooted a HTC Inspire solely for the purpose of putting a newer version of sense on it. That was a very simple, 1-Click root in Terminal.
Also this ICS ROM for Atrix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382934
Is it a ROM that i can just slap on to my phone or do I need to install a cm7 ROM first?
Thanks in advance.

I have been doing that for hours on end today. I will keep looking though.
its best to have an sdcard even if its just a cheep one from amazon
you may not get the best read and write speeds but it will save you head aches in the future . and yea a mac can be used to root an atrix but windows is best
jk.
As for the ROM question, you can install the ROM without installing CM7 first. But you will need to root and unlock the bootloader of the device along with install CWM. (ClockWork Recovery Mod) Only until you do those things will you be ale to install custom ROMS on your Atrix. You will not be able to do it just by rooting the device.
By the way, that is just a ICS Looking ROM. That is not ICS at all, it is just a theme.
For rooting your phone, my best suggestion is the zergRush method. I can guarantee that it worked on my Atrix using a mac. It seems as though someone has created a script to run on mac based off this exploit, however, I personally used the manual root method.
Here's a link to the thread. Again, I used method #4 on the list. Hope it helps.
