Hi everyone!! i'm desperate since i think i came with an expensive, unusable phone in my hands.
I read and searched thorough but there doesn't seem to be much clue on this, just one or two lost threads....
Someone care to drop a hint to help me ? ive lost all hopes.....
My x10a, after using it for , say, 1 month, rooted with latest xx23 firm (and used for a week or more , perfectly fine) ... some days ago, it stopped recognising USB port.
IT does not charge, with no existent charger or usb cord; it does not recognise usb connection of any kind, to any computer possible.
It lasted till last battery charge died, and no way to resucitate.
Afterwards, i came up with something: i bought a crappy, chinese battery-charger, drop my X10 battery overnight, and the phone then booted and worked fine.
So it is the USB connector/port/circuit. I even though of reflashing or re-rooting, but you can figure out that i can't do that anymore (no usb :S).
I can't give it back to SE or seller since it was brought overseas, and it even has some little marks on the corners (they'll just claim i dropped and so).
Any caritative soul please?
I opened following McKebapp guides, but didnt find nothing in particular.
Do you think i should risk in getting hands dirty and, say, re-solder an usb jack?
If not, i offer in sell all spare parts, almost new, or even sell it at a very good price, e.g. for bootloader experimenting....

Are you sure there is no gunk in the port or the cable's contact itself? Or even a bad cable?
Try this.
(1) Buy yourself a can of contact/electronics cleaner spray.
(2) Remove battery from phone to ensure you have no power going through there.
(3) Spray area clean and wait for it to dry.
Afterwards put battery back in, power up and plug in. See if that works
Yes, i tried all these... but nothing... Of course, i tried using up to 10 different usb cables, even bought new ones... but the strange thing is that nothing really happened, in order to mess or 'break' something on the phone...it was from one day to another... strange....
I wonder if the port is soldered to place on the board or is just spring contact based. I believe Bin4ry had his phone disassembled - you can ask him. If it is spring loaded contacts - there might be dirt underneath that needs to be cleaned up. If it is soldered - a joint might have broken and need resoldering.

OMG... NEVER do that to a PCB with BGAs...
You'll shorten the connectors underneath the BGA soldered chips by fluid that stays there thanks to capillary action.

IF there is any mechanical failure, one or more of the five solder points in the middle of the connector is loosened.
But I can't believe it's a mechanical / solder problem.
Wiggle the USB charger cable a little, while having it plugged.
That way, you'll determine if there is any hairline crack.
If there is any, you can think of resolder it..
If you ask me, I'd say, some SMD fuse has blown up or there is an hairline crack between the PCB layers.
To determine that, you'll need a 3rd level schematics and some electric circuit reading knowledge.
If nothing helps:
Wait till there is a OTA Update that unroots the phone.
Then bring it to service..
The same thing happened to mine. While it was charging on my desk, and I was asleep.
I woke to find the phone on the floor but the USB cable was attached.
Using JuicePlotter (which had been running) it seemed that the phone had stopped charging around the time I had missed a call.
My detective skills allowed me to deduce that the phone was fine, but then when it rang - and started to vibrate - it rumbled its way off my desk. I believe it was not hitting the floor that damaged it - it's carpeted and not much of a drop - but the shock to the USB cable port as it swung itself off mydesk, effectively "hanging" itself.
I'm afraid I had no luck fixing it but it was only a week old so O2 replaced it immediately.
These days I ensure the phone is FIRMLY wedged somewhere when charging it.

Long post, sorry.
Phone slid off the couch, hit the floor, battery door popped off, and afterwards if I moved the phone while on a call or slid the keyboard out to type it would just go black.
A light shake and it would die. So I popped the battery out and took the back cover off. Inside, the black battery connector (I can post a pic) was half attached like a loose tooth.
Took it to a repair shop, the guy was great soldered it back on but said it probably wouldnt charge cause a line on the main board broke????.
Phone doesn't seem to recognize the battery. Red solid light when plugged in, no amber with the battery in. Wont turn on. Anyone have any suggestions or am I looking at a brick. Does anyone on this board do repairs like this?
Its a Softbank X01HT from ebay and I flashed it to Mobile 6 so warranty is pretty much out of the question.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS, I'd make a suggestion to anyone who's battery moves around inside the phone to wedge it in place so this doesn't happen to you. We don't hear of this happening often(or ever) but it happen to me, I suspect its because the battery has a little bit of room to move.
May get a chance late tomorrow to see if there may be a work around. This is not an easy board to work on though. A pic of the "broken-line" would be most useful if at all possible,
Can we assume, the black part you refer to is the part with the gold battery connectors at the bottom of this photo?

While it was off he showed me the bottom of the connector assembly, where the broken line is.
Red arrows are the 6 solder points
Blue arrows show the line.( I think, I'm not 100% sure what a line is)

Well sadly, having looked at the board, I think the guy who soldered the connector back on, did about as good a job as it is possible to do. It appears that the connector block contacts (two of them) have broken off the board contacts. With a crude board you could simply trace back to the break point and solder a wire from the board to the connector. However the Hermes usesa multi-layer board that means it is impossible to trace back to a point just after the break.
Unfortunately then, unless there was some of the board contact still showing, you cannot solder short wires to join to the contact block With a detailed circuit diagram you might be able to identify alternate points to solder a couple of wires to link to the connector block. This though is such a remote possibility that you can virtually count it out. I do not know of such a diagram that is publically available and manual soldering on this scale would be almost impossible. If HTC were asked to repair this board, they would just replace it.

PS You didn't say whether it worked normally after the repair and before the battery ran flat. If it did, you could in theory charge your batteries in a free standing battery charger, but I doubt it would be worth the hassle.

Our solder friend suggested the same, but the phone doesn't recognize the battery being connected. So no dice, its a brick.
Anyone want to buy a white case with a front camera. Or better yet, can I buy a board for it somewhere?

hi! i have a dopod 838 pro. and it suddenly cant turn on. i was just texting then it went buggy (hanging up) then i did a soft reset then all of a sudden it didnt turn on. i was charging it at that time.
the phone never got wet, was never dropped. i installed the official wm 6.1 rom and it had been running for more than two weeks so i dont think the problem was the ROM. battery is good since i still get two days of battery.
i have tried hard resets, used the usb connector to power the phone up. i had this sent to the authorized htc service center, they tried another batt and charger but still nothing. i was told to leave it for 4 to 5 days...and after the wait i was told that the main board is the problem. and replacement is not an option since it would cost me twice the price of a second hand unit.
this was an observation: when i remove the battery and connect it to the charger, LED is red then it disappears when i replace the battery. no amber going.
is there still a fix for this? the service center does not perform any board level repairs. if this is a battery connector problem then a little soldering might fix it right? i hope i can still revive this. thanks!

The Hermes mainboard is a multilevel board. If the problem is a broken connector inside the mb then theres no hope. So saying, look at the connectors. If you see a break you can resolder and maybe have a bit more life yet.

Breaks in the connections below the board surface are virtual death to the motherboard. you could in theory put in jumper wires but you'd need detailed circuit diagrams and suitable solder points. However it may just be the surface connections of the battery connector block and these can be re-soldered. Here's a pic of the board with the block de-soldered;

However, before going to re-solder you could just check it's not a poor contact between connector and battery (I doubt it is, but you never know). To test this out try this:
You could also press on the connector a little while you power on. if this worked you could be fairly sure it's either the soldered connections or a crack internally.
Now if all of the above fails, you need to be aware that it could be a number of other things. A fault in the usb connector or damaged connections on the USB to board joints. Conceivably it could be some damaged caused (hairline crack perhaps) when you inserted the stylus in the reset hole. possibly even a damaged reset switch stuck in the on position etc etc. Any of these things would really require test equipment and even then without suitable data it would be difficult to diagnose.

I don't know if I'm posting in the right section, but here is the thing. I've got GeeksPhone Keon Developer Preview, It's a Firefox OS phone, but I've flashed an Android version on it. Everything worked great for about 6 months, and then the phone stopped charging, and it was also not detected by PC. When I plug it to a PC the phone does not detect it's plugged in also the PC does not detect the phone. I tried other microUSB cables and it's the same. I also tried flashing the Android again as I thought maybe it's software related but the problem still exists. Hopefully I installed recovery on it. I currently charge the battery externally, everything else works as expected.
Yesterday I decided to mess with the phone, as I don't have the warranty. I opened it up and checked if the phone actually has power when plugged to the charger. I noticed that the battery is powered so It is charging but the Android OS does not detect that, and decreases the battery via software. I think that the D+ or D- pins are broken, and I'm not sure if they are used for the phone to know if it's charging.
Here is the picture of the circuit board and my findings. Camera is not great so the picture is not that great also.

0. Is the microUSB port, and I guess there is a problem with it, maybe D+ or D- pins got broken.
1. Those are D+ and D- resistors they are good I've tested them.
2. Those are battery pins. When I probed them when micro USB is plugged in they have power.
3. It's some kind of a IC for power, I think it's used to switch power to the battery from microUSB.
I don't have that good soldering skills so I couldn't resolder the microUSB port, so I'm asking if someone knows another approach to enable the charging via software, as software does not detect that battery is charging, when actually power from microUSB comes to the battery, and because of that it decreases the battery status on Android.
So I'm thinking if I can execute some command so I can trick the phone to believe it's charging, so the battery will charge and when I plug it out I execute the second command to turn off fake charging?

Funny that you have this problem, I just fixed mine today that had the same problem. Basically the micro usb port stopped working because the parts soldered on the motherboard were loose after too much wiggling (cheap mtk phone I guess). I tried resoldering but its just too small, I could not event test the connexions with a multimeter. So I went to one of the million of asian cell phone shops in indonesia where I'm actually travelling and paid 5$ for a guy to fix it. They do it all the time and have expert fingers. Not my phone plugs perfectly, try to find one near your place, wherever that is

What happens if you put a charge over those connections? It won't accept any? Or does it charge but the software isn't detecting it? Another way of fixing it would be making a separate charger for your battery only, of course that would mean that your phone is useless while charging. I'm pretty sure if you force a charge over it it will absorb it, but I wouldn't exactly know how you could check the battery status so that you don't overcharge it this way.
I Have a problem with my phone which is turning me crazy.
The battery wont charge while turned on, while turned off it is constantly starting up to show the battery load picture, then i shuts down again and the battery charging picture pops up again. This happens all the time. I cant do anything about it. It does not matter if i plug it into a wall or into my pc. Also its not the cable or the adapter. I really dont know what to do. So far, ive come to the conclusion, It does recognize that its charging whilest being off, so its not some thing that has to do with a hardware issue. It must be software. The only thing I have used is an app called rootbooster. It changes some settings in the root of the phone for longer battery and ever since i have this issue.
In Recovery it does not charge as well.
I have already flashed my rom again and reset the phone.
Anyone knows anything about this?

Probably not software. Sounds like your micro USB port on your phone. Give it a good blow, might be lint or dirt stuck in your port. Especially if you've returned it to stock and its doing this while powered off. That or your charging port has developed a fault.
It is 99% likely to be the usb socket......
I've had 5 Galaxy devices, all of them use the same type of port, and 3 out of the 5 have failed.....
IMO, the USB port design is pathetically fragile for the job Samsung intends it to do.......

The usb socket has a number of connectors/pins that are used in various combinations for specific tasks.....
Charging, connecting to a pc, otg etc......
It *could* be that the pins responsible for charging are the only pins affected.....it doesn't even need to be both pins....just one broken pin would be enough to affect charging, but would leave the other functionality intact....
I wouldn't advise poking into the socket with anything in an attempt to repair it, that'll probably just make things worse.

USB has red wire (Positive - VCC - Power - PIN 1 ) and black wire (negative - GND - Ground - PIN 4 ).
Along with it has White Wire (Data+, Communication with PC - sending signals to PC - PIN 2 ) and green wire (Data-, Communication With PC - return to smartphone - PIN 3 ).
So it is possible that the "red wire" in this case PIN 1 and PIN 4 of USB, that developed a fault.
Meaning that you have only PIN 2 and 3 not being fault.
If it has Warranty and with Stock Rom, take it to the samsung authorized repair and they will change the usb port.

Replacing the USB 'daughterboard' involves removing the screen from the frame......very tricky to do with the potential to cause further, more expensive damage.
If, during rooting and flashing, you have tripped knox, Samsung may well argue that you have invalidated any warranty you may have had....so be aware that the offer of a warranty repair *may* be denied to you......that is, if knox *is* tripped and they check for it....

But isnt it weird that whilst off, the phone does know when it is connected to USB?
And another question, My computer does not connect with the phone at all. No charging and not reading its USB. Isnt there a possibillty that because of some root mistakes the phone wont charge anymore? Is there a possibillity that this is software related? Because I did not bump my phone to anything. I have just ran that app and ever since its not charging anymore or connecting to my PC.

Well have you tried a factory reset?
It could be the soldering part which connects the port to the board maybe broken. Maybe it just slightly touch to your board, that's why it just pop up and show charging then it went away.
Unfortunately it is not a part you can hand re-solder with any degree of success.....The contacts are *way* too small.....

Solder tools has many sizes. You need expert to do it. Otherwise if you short each other,you will be in more trouble.
Mate...seriously? I've seen these usb ports off the boards....The connectors are tiny.....You'd need a needle point on a low powered soldering iron. You'd also need a lighted magnifying glass just to be able to see what you're doing.......
Oh, *and* a rock steady hand.....which is something that most humans don't have.
There is a reason why these microcircuitry boards are assembled by robots....it's because we would bork too many of them if we tried it......

The gf's Nintendo DS charging port broke, worked for a while by twisting the charger lead around until it made a connection, then stopped even doing that, so I thought I could just permanently solder the charger wires to the connectors in the port for her, so it would work at least while plugged in
Soon as I took the thing to bits I could see straight away there was no hope, even with a powerful magnifying glass and the smallest soldering bit I could think of, there was no chance at all, I would have soldered 2-3 pins together at once if I'd tried

First time poster. Long time lurker. I'm hoping to add something useful to the community.
I have had my galaxy note 10.1 GT-N801X since launch but as of recently I have been struggling to find a use for it. A couple years ago it started to feel slow and clunky and then I started having problems with the battery. It has then been sitting in a box refusing to boot up until now. I found a couple places that sold replacement batteries online and the price wasn't too bad. Replacing the battery would have been a viable option however I have issues that the device cannot usually be used while charging and it takes a long time to fully charge. Even when the tablet was new I remember that battery live wasn't that great when using it intensively. For me the novelty of the pen had worn off, portability was less of a concern (As I have my phone for that), and the device feels slow and clunky and the screen is not that great by today's standards.
So I decided to fix it as cheaply as possible and design it to be timer for my home gym where it could also play YouTube videos and stream content from Plex web and Netflix if I wanted to. It would be close to an outlet at all times and I would not like to deal with the hassle of dead batteries and not being able to use it while charging. I would not be using the SPEN and I would not be using it for close up viewing tasks. So i decided to remove the old dead battery and hardwire in a plug.
*** CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK *** I AM NOT AN EXPERT AND I AM GENUINELY SURPRISED SOMETHING SO SIMPLE WORKED ***
1. My first step was to open up the tablet and remove the old battery. It wasn't very hard and their are quite a few guides out there already. My only advice is to be careful when removing the connectors. After a couple years some of them have become quite delicate.
2. My next step was to get all of the parts prepared. I had an old 5V USB charging block that can output up to 2A. I had an old USB to micro USB cable that only had 2 wires on the inside. I cut off the micro usb end and stripped the wire ends. Then I cut the 5 wire battery connector off of the old batter and carefully stripped the end of the wires.
Just a note of caution, the original battery says it is 3.7V with a 4.2V max charging voltage. By using a 5V power block you are going to be overpowering the board. I thought I might immediately blow the board or lead to overheating. So far it is not a problem. At this point I have used it for about 12 hours in total and a max of 4 hours a time. But I don't leave it plugged in unattended just in case.

3. Then I assembled all of the pieces. The salvaged plug from the old battery has 5 wires. The two red are the positive terminal and the 2 black are the negative terminals. I have no idea what the blue is but that is unimportant for the project. Before soldering I tested the outputs from the USB cable. Red was positive. White was negative. The output was 4.8V. I soldered the red wire from the USB cable to the two red wires of the battery cable harness and then soldered the white wire from the usb cable to the two black wires of the harness. I debated whether or not to attach the blue wire to the ground... but in the end I just left it untouched and everything worked out fine. I then covered the solder points with hot glue so they would not short on anything. It was a little bit too tight for electrical tape.
4. I then plugged the wiring harness back into the tablet and attached the wire to the back of the case with some hot glue so it couldn't be accidentally ripped out. I didn't bother putting the cover on the back of the tablet. I just put on the case and cut a small section out so the cable could pass freely through the side. I then powered it up and installed the newest version of lineageOS and my apps.
