Question about android on htc hd2 - HD2 General

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and don't no much about hacking htc phones or rooting. I have an iphone 3G which i jailbroke and i am familiar with iphone hack terms. But whereas htc hack terms i dont understand much..But recently i just saw a video where the htc hd2 was ported to android.I was wondering if the devs successfully port android to the htc hd2 will it completely replace the WinMo OS or...how will that work? The reason why I'm wondering is because I'm certainly on WIND carrier and this is one of the phones that are supported. So basically should i wait for the port to be released and get a htc hd2 because i dont want it to crash this will be my main phone or should i go with a nexus one. I just want a android supported phone. Either htc hd2 or nexus one.
THXXX in advance
srry if this is the wrong forum for this post

Go with a Nexus One. The Android port won't be 100% working for a long time.

Android Anyone

Hi all, I just got a new HTC HD2 from T-Mobile US and wanted to know if someone can point me in the right direction on how to install Android. I'm pretty familiar with Android since my first Smartphone was the HTC Dream/G1 (which I miss already) and the only reason I got this phone besides the specs was that I heard you can hack it to run Android. I have no clue about Windows Mobile phones since this is my first one (and I don't like it already LOL) but if I can get Android on here then maybe she's a keeper...any help will do, thanks in advance.
Sell your HD2 if you don't like WM. It'll be a while before Android is on it. Android is possible on the HD, if you want to get that phone.

WOW! So Android hasn't been ported to the HD2 yet? Looks like I'm taking my phone back to T-Mobile and sticking with my trusty Dream until the next best thing comes out.
nice job on the research there buddy....
heres the android thread btw. very far from an android build.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651632
may i advise you to at least try out wm first though. its actually not that bad, and i think that sense makes it look much nicer than android
you didnt look into this stuff before you went and got the phone? typical... "shot, then ask questions"
You're going to miss the speed of the hd2. I had an HTC Dream too.
You have 2 weeks to try it before you have to return it if you don't like it.

HD2 or Desire

I know u ppl got tired of this question , but since I'm ordering new phone these days , I dunno which one to choose.
My vote will go to HD2 , since I heard there will be Android on it aswell (that was my main reason why I even thought about Desire).
I hope you kind ppl can help me solve my "problem"
Cheers,
Alex
Just get a Desire, the HD2 will never run Android as stable day-to-day as phone a designed to run the OS.

Like I thought so, thanks for your reply.
EDIT : Also , other replies are welcome too
depends on what you need most, big screen or android.
Both , but Android on 1st place.
The Desire HD or HTC Ace is due in October basicly a HTC EVO for GSM, it may be worth waiting till that comes out before you buy...
Personally, I will jump to Android when this phone arrives, I'm done (after many years) with WM ...
Thanks for reply , I just can't wait 'till October , but thanks anyway.

if android is your top priority, why is this even a debate???
There has not been one instance of Android as a primary OS on any WinMo phone to date. And that is after, what, 2 years of trying.
Don't let the aesthetics of the HD2 fool you. If your main concern is the OS, then go ahead and get the Desire. No question about it. Android will never be running 100% on the HD2 and if you're not accustom to winmo in general (which mean countless head-scratching as you're trying to make it work), you're screwed.
Then I guess imma buy Desire.
Thanks for feedback.
Actually I'm using desire ROM on hd2, working fine, they made Android really batter in a few days.. think of the advantage of a dual boot

Hmmm , does it have any glitches / bugs w.e ?
Cuz I don't want my phone to freeze or something , and its brand new.
You bet it does. I am an ex-owner of an HD2 and I swear to God that if the guys from the service center will give me a new HD2, I`ll say "no, thanks... what about a desire?" without having any second thoughts.
Personally, I`m done with the HD2. Full of bugs/freezes/etc, and I might say that I`m not quite the average apple fanboy who wants everything to work out-of-the-box. I love tweaking and hacking, but only to an extent.

my girfriend has the htc desire. in my opinion it has only 2 advantages over my hd2: better screen sensitivity and a brighter/more colorful screen (which i find not very natural anyway...).
the hd2 can run android now, it has a larger screen (with more natural colors) and i'm not willing to give up on wm just yet. android is very finger friendly, tons of apps and a more "secure" future ahead but i got bored with it very quickly.
so to make things short, i recommend to go with the hd2 or wait for something else...
oh, forgot to mention - your experience with the hd2 is highly dependent to the rom/radio/location "trinity". i am very happy with mine
I really wanna say: get the HD2.
An Android ROM should be made available in another month or two and with all the development behind the HD2 (on XDA of course!), it might even run Android better than the Desire some day. And who knows, the HD2 might be ported to WP 7 some time next year.
How about them apples?

I serverly doubt there will be a flashable ROM for the HD2, read here, Zarathustrax has a good knowledge of Android ports.

I haven't a clue my friend, Zarathustrax is the man to ask.
I think you should get the HD2. What can the Desire do that that the HD2 can't? And that massive screen dweebs out any other phone on the market. Plus the HD2 is cheaper than the Desire.
If HD2 will get a Stable and fast Android rom.....go to HD2....you will have two SO on a big, big screen.
but just if will have android stable...in contrary....

[Q]HD2 Droid vs Nexus One?

Dilemma -- I have someone that wants to buy my Stock HD2 without Android for $350 (us dollars) so that I can purchase the N1.
What you guys suggest? Keep my HD2 w/ Android which is overclocked and working flawless w/ Android or sell it and get the Nexus One root it, Froyo 2.2, etc?
PS,
I know its not available online, I know a few private sellers that N1's for sell.

no general android forum so he can do what he want , don't like the usless threads generated every munits just ask for general android forum
thread... i dont know how to tell you this.... i think you have until 18:00GMT to live... im sorry
btw hd2, n1 is butt ugly
Frankly if you're interested in Android and Android alone, I'd go with the Nexus One. While the quality of Android builds on the HD2 has improved, its still not at the level of phones designed with it.

thread rules state develoment only , if it was me i would be asking members in the market area...
another useless thread...but to answer your question, HD2 will eventually get NAND soon, seeing as the HTC Kaiser already has android NAND. After the HD2 gets NAND it will be better than the nexus one, wiping out windows mobile all together and running flawlessly from boot.
thanks, closed!
wait a bit for android ROM and u will get the answer
i had the n1. i did not like the build quality and wasnt really feeling the design. the material used for the display felt kind of thin. like the g1 screen. in my opinion and experience with the two, the hd2's build quality and design are far more superior than the nexus one.
i am running the shu8i android build and is one of the lucky one's to not have too many problems. with the hd2 running android and just about stable, i'd choose the hd2 over a nexus one. i dont know if you have had any other android phone, but with custom rom's you will also run into problems once in a while. when i had the nexus one and running some custom roms, i would get random reboots and freezes(depending on who's rom), same as some people running android on their hd2. so dont think just because you are getting a device that originally came with android it will run 100% stable when running custom roms.

Can the Nexus One run windows? Does the Nexus One have a 4.3 inch screen? HD2 FTW!
Just to clarify, its HD2 ANDROID.
Droid is a whole other phone.
Disagree

I bought a spanking new Desire off Amazon and after putting Shubcraft on my HD2 promply sold the Desire. To get the Desire running the way I wanted it too would have taken the same amount of work to get my HD2 going. More than happy with HD2 now. Plus the phone has proved to be a real head turner out in public as various fanboyz from other platforms as well as Android want to know what the hell it is.
I like both phones but prefer the bigger screen of the HD2.

Although i love my HD2 and use it more than my nexus one, i cant see myself getting rid of the nexus one until I have a G2. So to answer your question, until nand becomes a reality, the best android phone is a pure android phone.
I just came from the my touch slide and know a lot of developers that traded their nexus one for HD2.I'm looking forward to seeing awesome things on this phone from them. Being patient is going to be difficult but well worth it.

Partially agree... but can you say for Droid X, MyTouch 3G, Evo 4G - that Android runs perfect on them? I think you are leaning towards saying "partially No"...
I have played with Droid X, Evo 4G and MyTouch - out of three two first are great, but Android OS was everything but NOT SMOOTH. Therefore, even my HD2 wins how smooth it is with 2.2 ... I have no doubt it will be smooth on these two once 2.2 is available (as it is now I think) - but still, phones "designed" for Android have not much to do with OS itself - just marketing deal between two companies, that's all...

you are right , there is no hardware designed for certain os exept the buttons , my hd2 with mattc builds runs smoother than my friend's htc desire in some tasks , may be the developers here made better drivers than HTC , add on that that we have real multitouch that doesnot exist in allot of htc android phones including (desire and nexus ) and now we only 4 steps far from fully android Hd2
1. light sensor
2. improve g sensor drivers
3. compass calibration
4.in call volume increase
and these are not big issues
I was also thinking trading HD2 for a Nexus, but can't get rid of 4.3" screen, so I decided to stick with the mighty HD2

Things I shouldnt expect from HD2 Android ?

Hi guys,
I might buy a HD2 and I want to do everything that a current DHD or DesireZ can do. So keeping this in mind what are things that I shouldnt expect from HD2 ?
Does it delivers every thing that a nexus one /desire/DZ/DHD deliver ?
I wanted to buy DHD... But its not available in US. Its quite expensive also. And no other options for 4.3 Inch screen
Thanks, Help me decide whether or not to buy this phone as an altenative for desire Z/Desire HD

I don't quite understand what you're asking. You're asking for help with a decision, but from what I'm reading, there is only one option?
To answer your more obvious question, I believe development for DHD/DHZ has stagnated, and the only thing it's missing is the camera. Not sure when/if devs will finish that. The Evo, desire, and nexus builds are pretty much 100% done though
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
If you're in the US, why don't you buy an Evo? I'm sure the new Sense will be ported to it (if it hasn't been already).
If you want the ability to switch between Windows Mobile and different Android builds, get the HD2.
If you want a native Android phone with similar (not the same though, before the pedants flame me) hardware to the HD2 get the Desire.
If you want a more up dated similar Android phone get the Desire HD.
If you want a hardware keyboard get the Z.
Thats pretty much it sport
Thanks
Coming to a conclusion that this phone is not a pure native android phone
Its better I w8 for Nexus S or go with DHD
As a TMOUS user I would just get the Desire HD if it was my first phone and I had the upgrade option. But I didnt, so I wanted the next best thing, a phone I could convert into a Desire HD, which was the HD2. I found one new in the box on craigs list for $250 and shelled out. Studied up on modding it and made it look like the Desire HD.
I'm also a TMOUS user and found one of craigslist for under 200. Until they come out with a new 4.3 android phone, this will be it for me. I don't get the data drops and the only issue I come across is the 10 second lag in autorotate with the touchscreen. I'll take that. If the Desire HD (or comparable) ever comes to the US that's what I will move to
Looks like camera fix is available on Desire HD builds now....
what you shouldn't expect a droid hd2...prefection.some builds are still WIP or some bugs not resolved.
then we have the nand camp who wants droid on their fone, wiping out winmo completely.this is still WIP.and still some impt issues not resolved.
other than that,hd2 is pretty impressive even with stock winmo.not that much of a diff between dhd other than a updated hardware.
if you like cutomising the hell out of ur fone but lack the money,go for hd2.you get spoilt to booting winmo cooked rom or droid builds available in the forums.

I dont know how you don't know that? It's a windows mobile 6.5 phone. How can a windows phone be a pure native android phone? If you are looking for a phone that can do exactly what a DHD or a Desire Z, you would have to get one of those phones as no other phone currently runs the new htc sense. The closest phone to a DHD or a Desire Z in US is an EVO 4G.

[Q] Which one should I buy, HD2 or Desire?

I want Android Phone, for the first moment, I think I would buy Desire, but after search alot on XDA, then I got Confuse, cos HD2 Is very good to handle Android.... I want purely using Android on HD2 (Windows doesn't count).
Should I buy HD2 or Desire? what pros and cons each of them?
please help me to choose....
sorry for my english
Well seeing that you posted this in the android section your answer is most likely to be an hd2 but this has noting to do with question and answers snout android on the hd2

I have Nexus One and HD2. I love them both
HD2 with android is real fast, faster then my nexus (your HD2 can have 1900 point on quadrant standard- my nexus only have 1650)
The digitizer on HD2 is easy to break (a lot people have screen response problems)
The battery on nexus one is last longer (U don't worry to run out battery in mid afternoon)
If they both cost the same for you, then you might as well get the Desire HD. The only reason people put android on the HD2 is because it was the only 4.3" superphone on Tmobile's network, and it was crippled with Windows OS.
If you only plan on running android, I would get a native android phone.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
its better to run android nativly. get the desire,
if you want a HD2 running android, get a Desire HD,
HD-2 is only cool because we can customize the SHYT out of it. Flash a new rom every day if you like. With the Desire HD you will most likely be stuck with the same ole same ole and that may get OLD to you after a few months. So you have to decide if you like doing what most of us do wich is Flash the He11 out of our phone.
First of all we dont 'flash' anything by putting and android rom on out sd card. Secondly the desire hd can be rooted soon, and there will be tons of stuff 4 it! Youre askin this question in the wrong forum. Why? Coz we all have leos! The answer is simple: if u want native droid, get the desire!
I like the developement, so im sticking with my LEO!
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
hd2 on desire hd rom will be realy sweet.
and to answer your question, like someone said earlier,hd2 has one of the most impressive hardware during that time when it was released and it was crippled by winmo.
not that winmo is bad or anything, its jus that winmo target mainly business users and not for entertainment.(etc ifone)
so you get a powerful fone with crappy software making it a test to you as a human when using this device.
if you got $$$ to burn, buy desire hd.its android and the fone is build for it.
you wan to tinker with your fone, buy hd2,tinker away and bliss out on your sofa.
take a look at the forums and read the android development,Q&A for hd2.you can get all the answers to whatever questions you might have to ask.
