The RUU police didn't get here in time for this one...
You'll have to wait for a 2.1 exploit to be discovered.

I think we should just post this in these topics

thanks, it's alright though, 2.1 is great. The only things i wish it had were lwp and friendstream, but i can cope. I guess i'll just wait.
So you have 2.1 RUU ? Then you cannot root.
haha yeah i bit the dust,
i don't think i'm missing out on that much seeing as i tried rooting before and it never worked

You could have just downloaded fresh kitchen and rooted that way... but you're ****ed for now. Sorry dude.

hrm a new user must have posted and then deleted.
i did try to use the kitchen, it would get up to the point where it would go into recovery mode then just stay stuck at the HTC logo recovery screen, also when i was doing it it says pre-kitchen has identified that you are not running a stock sprint rom, even though i was completely stock 1.5.

Simply Happy

Well thankfully i was able to downgrade to 2.1, and do the root and unrevoked forever, everything worked perfect since i took it slow and one literal step at a time, so i finally got full root, then today i dived into flashing a rom, well that was easier then i thought it would be. I did the one by netarchy, it was the HTC OTA Froyo 2.2, *FINAL*, build 3.36.651.6 (Rooted) Odexed that he created, i must say good job and thank you to everyone that helped me, most of all without some awesome Dev's on this site none of what we can do could be done.
just wanted to say thanks, and i look forward to enjoying my fully rooted froyo rom.
yaysiez - I never messed with the unrEVOked or the 1 click root stuff. I find the long way is really fun to do! It's a learning experience. Glad to hear everything went smoooooth for ya. I didn't like the idea of not being able to reverse UF, although I hear they may or may not be working on an S-OFF switch.

The newest version of UF includes (or works with) a new S-ON switcher, so you can revert the S-OFF state if you want.

Yes you are correct, it's S-off, so this will give you a true full root with nand unlock for once, unrevoked has really pulled through with a awesome job.

Yup... and that was the only thing left I was waiting on rooting for. Now, the only other issue I have is I don't want Froyo until the streaming audio issue is resolved, so I'm going to stay on UF 2.1/1.47 until a new update comes out. Then, I'll upgrade with a 2.2 rooted stock rom that will likely show up here somewhere.

[Q] Help with Mytouch 4G with Gingerbread 2.3.4

Hello everyone,
Any help you guys can give will be much appreciated.
I have a MyTouch 4G previously running Froyo, rooted and S=Off. Against better judgment, I decided to put this release of Gingerbread 2.3.4 on it:
PD15IMG_Glacier_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.19.531.1_Radio_12.58.60.25_26.11.04.03_M_release_200756_signed.zip
Though everything seems to work fine, I lost root. Contrary to most other accounts from other people who flashed the same file, S=Off remained on my phone.
I would really like to get root back so I can use some of my apps again.
Visionary stops at a black screen.
Gingerbreak runs forever with no success.
What other means can I use to get root back or am I SOL for now until someone figures out how to root 2.3.4 on the MT4G?
Thanks again.
N
From what I could find in the forums, you are kinda stuck till someone comes up with another exploit in order to gain root and s-off
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
I am stuck in the same situation, except that I updated first to the official gingerbread rom for mytouch 4g and then tried to root my phone, i.e. the phone was not rooted at all.
I'm quite confident an exploit will be (re)written - just a matter of time. It's just that I couldn't use some of my paid apps.

You can go back to 2.2.1 from 2.3.4
I had the same issue then i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 follow the G2 method, when you get to the part where you put this in # /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.19.531.1 make sure you put the version you want like 1.17.531.2 not 1.19.531.1 worked for me just did it about 1/2hr ago
If you still have S-off, why not just wipe and flash another ROM?

I tried flashing a similar 2.3.4 release that is rooted. Renamed it to PD15IMG.zip and tried applying it - At "parsing", it stops and just goes back to the HBOOT menu.

You are mixing up roms and official update zips. You can't just flash a rom thorough hboot. That's not how it works.

lOOK AT WOLF26915's post use the G2 instructions to temp root using the fre3vo exploit in adb then change your version number to 1.17.531.2, then your bootloader will allow you to use the 2.2.1 PD15IMG update to get back to stock and root.

This is the problem with n00bs. You wanna jump head first into something you have absolutely no understanding of then beg for help over and over in here when you finally brick your phone.
Stupid. You FAIL!
So sick of new users of Android trying to jump before looking. You're the same kind of people who would jump off a cliff before checking to see how deep the water is. Then want help after you break your neck.

That was 20 years ago. And yet, even then, when I wanted to know something; I searched and searched and searched, and searched again. Then I read and read and re-read over and over and over again. And after all that if I still didn't know then I would ask. But I would also ask in a proficient manner.
Too many young kids jumping in on the Android bandwagon and wanting to root and flash Rom's right out of the box without learning first.
I stand by my first statement.
If you had Radio S-OFF, you should be able to flash an unsigned PD15IMG.zip even though you lost root.

thanks a lot dude for showing me to put that.. i can confirm it worked perfectly fine. i will hit the thanks button for sure. i was stuck on that damn gingerbread leak build lol
Interesting. msm_rotator is I believe the exploit used in Fre3vo.
I wonder if this would work to downgrade the HTC Panache from Mobilicity to an MT4G ROM?
I also downgraded back to 2.2.1 then updated to the rooted 2.3.4 and it works

[Q] Any hope for Gingerbread OTA myTouch users that want root?

Is there any way to root it after the Gingerbread update? Or is there anybody working on it?

Yes here is how i did it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 follow the G2 method, when you get to the part where you put this in # /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.19.531.1 make sure you put the version you want like 1.17.531.2 not 1.19.531.1 I used PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.1 40e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed renamed it PD15IMG then put it on sdcard
Thanks for that but.... I really would prefer to root w/o downgrading if possible?
I know it can be done but I suspect I'll have to wait until someone does it and shows me how.
I've tried The Unlocker's techniques with worked before but Visionary won't run on Gingerbread, AAMOF it FUBARS the phone and has to be removed to get the phone working correctly again.

[Q] synergy RC2 ??

As the title suggests, id like to install synergy rc2 rom. Problem is my evo is already running gingerbread 2.3.3 from over the air update. What is the simplest easiest way i can root & install this rom? My 1st inclination is downgrade to froyo 2.2 first, but im unsure how to go about doing that. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. If this has been covered elsewhere please point me in the right direction cuz ive looked around quite a bit.
Thx
Look around some more.

You can't root the latest OTA update. You're going to have to wait till another exploit is found. Your stuck running sense at the moment unless you go grab yourself a Evo3D.

you are out of luck my friend, like many others and myself. We're stuck with stock GB 2.3.3 ...
All you can do is sit and wait it out until we get a full root again, it will come. Just hang in there..

You obviously didn't look very hard at all. 2 weeks ago, I counted all the threads that asked this same question, and I stopped counting at 80... So I dont know how you have missed any of these threads.
What about the possibility of downgrading, than rooting and applying a custom rom??? Can it be done that way somehow??

Again, this has been discussed at least 50 times in the last month. You cannot downgrade without root. And you cannot root 2.3 yet.
