Legend vs iPhone - Legend General

My friend has an iphone. I've got an HTC Legend. We often argue about wich one is the fastest.
WELL! I managed to comment his Facebook status before he even got it updated on his iPhone.
Tell me about your stories that makes Legend a better and faster phone than iPhone!

Size does matter ;P

Iphone is damn ugly, had no swype, and the kinetic scrolling feels really restricted, The ios ui seems really unintuitive. Android is a much better os and not all android devices look the same ans I like to have something different from the rest of the sheep

When froyo comes out you will destroy his iphone without a doubt!
For now your phone allows you to customize just about everything, send files over bluetooth, have widgets on your homescreen and so on, I think ios doesnt have these features
I am not a iphone hater I will get the iphone 4 soon next to my legend loolz
I think you just need to enjoy your phone and dont think about wich phone is better all the time (its expensive too change every month!)
Have fun cheers

legend worth it to skip desire?

asking few questions to legend owner.
between legend and desire, i'm leaning towards legend because of its design.
but snapdragon on desire sounds very tempting...
what do you say legend users? do you experience any lag because of lack of cpu or ram compare to desire?
The desire is more powerful but don't forget that its screen has a higher resolution, in other words it needs more power...
Why I've chosen the legend over the desire?
- First of all the legend has a much better finish than the desire, that looks too "nerd" for me. It looks more like a small computer than a cell phone..
- The legend is very smooth and do not really need more power
-The legend can almost do everything the desire can do but with a better pocket size.
- With a 3,2 screen instead of 3,7 screen, and a worse processor, it think the battery is better.
However, you should take the desire if:
- You really want to watch videos on your device
- You like playing a lot with your device because i think that games are going to require more and more config to run...
Look at the price for both desire & legend, its nearly the same: there is no best phone between them...
=> The legend has one of the best design for a smartphone
=> The desire is the more powerful
Allow me to offer a few pointers. I've got both devices. Desire for myself and the Legend for my wife.
Performance-wise, there's no doubt the Desire edges out the Legend. But the Legend is not 40% slower as the CPU clockspeeds may suggest. You'll encounter the occasional hiccup with the Legend when compared to the Desire, but you probably won't notice it unless you have both devices like I do. I would call this round a draw.
Aesthetically, it's very subjective. When you pull your Legend out, people will be drawn to the aluminum unibody enclosure. When you pull your Desire out, people will be drawn to the large 3.7" screen. I think the Legend looks nicer, but the Desire is in no way "geeky". It looks better in real life than on photos/videos. I'd describe it as more sophisticated looking while the Legend is more sexy.
Surely, you've read/seen reviews of both. See here for my review on the Desire and here for my review on the Legend. I tried to only put down things that were not mentioned or covered extensively by others. And I mentioned a couple of differences that may or may not matter to you.
Personally, I think it comes down to your screen/device size preference.
every time I pull out my legend I always get asked about it. it stands out from the crowd especially being in a country where you cannot buy it in store.
as for lag on the legend, it gets a little bit of lag if you quickly switch between lots of applications but other than that its fine
also if lag is a problem then disabling HTC sense is always an option but then you are limited to 3 home screens
it is a very good looking device tho.

big help from all of you guys......love the look of legend and i think i will go with legend instead of desire unless htc decides to make a legend looking phone with snapdragon processor
i think you will be very happy with it , especially once it is rooted and we can save apps to the sdcard :

Everytime I pull out my Legend in public I get a fine for indecent exposure. But that's for a different forum.
I love my Desire both how it looks and how it performs. Just needs a better battery to really make it the best phone period.
I haven't touched the Desire, so I can only write about the Legend.
In my own opinion:
The Legend looks GREAT, ATTRACTIVE & CLEAN design, & feels SOLID. I get so much compliments about the phone, even old folks, who don't care about phones, think the my phone is very nice looking.
However, the sharp edge on top of the earpiece sometimes hurts my ear.
It performs very well & smooth.
I use the phone MAINLY for calls & text messages. & I don't play & care for games on the phone. Therefore, the Legend's SIZE is PERFECT for me.
The phone has GREAT audio quality, which is nice & clear, & has good battery life.
I read somewhere that says because of the Legend's aluminum case, it doesn't get excellent signal. However, the reception has not let me down yet.
I'm also using HTC Touch Diamond 2, & HTC HD. My house has really bad signal & I have NO PROBLEMS with the Legend, whereas the other 2 get drop calls constantly.
It has 4 plastic buttons that feel REALLY CHEAP. You'll be disappointed with these buttons.
It has some other Cons, but you'll get that with the Desire too, so I won't go there.
I think you should also go to the Desire's board & ask what they like & dislike about the Desire & then make your own decision.
For now, I'm keeping the Legend until I can find a phone suitable for my need.
Cheers,
D
yeah the only real problem with it are the cheap feeling buttons which is a shame but the rest is of a very high quality
legend or desire
i have used nexus one before i got my legend. speed-wise, nexus one is no doubt faster than hero. but when i used legend, it's almost as smooth as the nexus one. also, when you install a lot of apps or put a lot of widgets in the homescreen, there's a tendency to lag. after using the nexus one for 2 months, i would say i like the legend more compared to nexus one. sorry im comparing legend with nexus one instead of desire. they both have the same specs anyway, well majority.

nexus one being almost identical to desire, every piece of info helps! thanks
... and something important too: Nexus one is due to be the "first in class" android, so is the most expensive one. Desire is cheaper than Nexus one to avoid confusions in the market. Legend need to be cheaper than Desire due to processor speed. I believe Legend would be more expensive if Nexus and Desire would not be available in the market. So, Legend has a competitive price with an excellent hardware and software configuration.
no doubt you are right. Best device I ever had

week with legend
I been using Legend just about a week.. first phone ever that don't make any kind of hardware sound.. almost every phone that I had and tested even with HD2.. make those hardware movement noise.. this phone is rock solid.. by the look and design.. it's phone, fit in ur hand perfect.. one of the best sound quality phone that I had.. HTC sense and Android.. sense work great.. since this is my first android phone.. I can't tell much about it..I used my bro's Hero about a week. Legend is much faster.. here in US.. 3G service don't work.. but even with Edge,, it's much faster and smoother internet experience than any other phone that I had or tested.. only thing that I don't like about the hardware is the 4button key.. I wish HTC made this with capacitive touch key like the Nexus one or touch HD..
buy the Legend.. it's cheaper than Desire.. also more phone factor than Desire..
if u need super PDA+ huge phone.. buy the Desire..
LOL.. just buy either one.. u'll like it anyhow..

I have used google nexus one and legend (I dumped the nexus one in favour of the legend).
i challenge anyone to say there is a difference in speed
the 7227 is a much improved cpu over the hero/touch pro 2/diamond 2 one etc.
its not just the speed.
I think the cpu is a side issue
the real difference between these two is just the screen resolution.
my 2 cents:
1. most android apps just scale up, so actually look worse on 800x480 (no doubt will get better)
2. you can't actually browse at 800x480 on such a small screen, so its benefit is mostly in smoothing
3. 480x320 video will be smoother. very little the human will gain over 800x480 at this size and 320x480 video files will be smaller.
4. 800x480 screeen uses slightly more battery
5. lower resolutions are here to stay, e.g. HTC Tatto, Sony X10 Mini, etc. only have 240x320 !!!
In summary, whilst 800x480 would be theoretically nicer to have, it makes no difference to me at the moment. the biggest thing I wanted was amoled, which I have got.
You will LOVE the Legend. Its a keeper.
I've got the Legend, because my X10 got swiped.
(Risking OT Compared to the X10, the Legend is much smoother.
However, for me, I may consider the Desire strongly, but simply because I am using a Mac and that the WiFi teether on the Desire makes things a snap for me, especially when I am out of the office.
But otherwise, I do agree that the Legend is a keeper... maybe I'll hand it over to the wife, or to one of my kids.
legend looks super awesome in comparison to the staid desire ..
i want to thank everyone on the great informative reply. i just ordered mine at htcperida can't wait to play with this bad boy!! once again, thanks a lot everyone!!!!

Legendary Wins

Yo
Seeing as so much of this forum is devoted to "Help with this problem", I figured I'd get a thread going about what we like about our phones
Mine: Today, at breakfast with friends, a mate and myself were both trying to load a graphics heavy webpage on our phones. We're on the same network and he has an iPhone 4. The Legend loaded the content 40 seconds faster.
Wiiin
Speaking to a friend who gets frustrated with having no flash on his iphone 3GS and now his iphone4, I loaded up another forum I use which has a flash banner at the top and he was jealous :smug smiley required:
A lady friend told me the Legend is the sexiest phone she ever saw and I have good taste for buying it. Win? Hell yeah.
I really like this phone because it has fairly decent battery life, is built solid, looks very classy, fits well in the board room or the VIP room and as a Gmail user it does exactly what I need it to do with regard to managing my digital life.
Admittedly, the battery life will probably not be quite as good when I am roaming in a country with 3G service, but that is only when I'm on holiday, so I'm not terribly worried about it.
Double post.
everybody who saw my phone told me that my HTC Legend looks and feels awesome and premium. win? yeah..
Best built phone on the market. Looks awesome, and it has Android! What could be better?

Should I stay with DZ or move to Nexus S

So basically I can get an amazing plan with a nexus s. Should I go for it, or staying with the desire z is better?
Thanks a lot.
Ps, do u know if nexus s has cm radio?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Well personally I'd stay, hands down. If your willing to give up the build quality, keyboard and vast modifications (as you should know ) then go for it. Performance wise will not make much of a difference anyways. But of course... it is a Nexus so it should (still) be supported or nearing its life support from Google, heck it had official ICS port but if that's all that matters.. I wouldn't.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I was faced with this problem when it was my birthday in the end, I went for the DZ because onscreen keyboards suck, this hw keyboard is brilliant, I hate samsung and love htc, and LOVE sense!!! Also, I need microsd expansion
So really, if your like me, and need the above, stay here. But if you want pure google etc, nexus s is the way to go! (I want a nexus s too now tbh, but I would never trade my desire z for it)
Also, I typed all of this on my HW keyboard, would have been on a real keyboard and I hate swype
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I would still keep my DZ, samsung phones feel very cheap, must they use plastic? Even if they wanna use plastic, it least make a phone with rubberised plastic like the original desire, plastic phones kinda disgusts me. But i like the nexus's curved display, i think its very sexy and unique :/
The screen on the desire z is better, cuz the nexus is using amoled and that means pentile matrix, and that means less pixels then desire z (i know the nexus's screen is 800x480)
The nexus s has no HD recording as well, that sucks.

iphones have a lot to answer for,i had this discussion with someone the other day though who has iphone 4..
the end of the arguement was
iphones for people who want an easy phone, everythings ready to go out of the box..easy to use and dont really need to do much(so sheep if we are getting down to it)
android is for geeks.Android phones are pretty simple as well but then taken up a level to development of the o/s
ios isnt open source, bit like a heavily guarded fortress..just in case someone actually does something to it..that makes people want to stop buying every version they release whilst the actualy operating system hardly changes... lol
xda is a pure reflection of...a geek loving site.
Don't forget that the iPhone is also for games..
But imo the smart thing to do is to get yourself an iPad gaming purposes, and pack an Android for everything else
Well I'm a geek and a tech junkie, and no other mobile OS has been able to deliver the flexibility nor the customization like Android..

I can do so much with it, my girlfriend is jealous on my phone
What I'll be looking for when i decide to replace my dhd are the following:
-Improved battery life
-Quad core
-SAMOLED at least 4"
-Min. 16GB internal memory with memory card slot
-Physical qwerty keyboard (i just prefer a slide-out keyboard)
-Front-facing cam
I know I'm being too demanding--and maybe too optimistic--but imo the specs above can easily be packed into the next HTC..
What do you think?

Well, i still couldn't decide what's for after DHD.. Damn, this phone is already 2 years old and still lots of thing happenning for this phone. Thinking about keeping it for another 1-2 years.
Well, i love galaxy note, but at the same time, i hate the plastic feels. i love iphone4, but the OS sux..
Maybe a 5" screen with aluminium unibody design that's all it takes. Single core or multi core, i don't care, as long as it's snappy.
Still loving my DHD though.
The Dhd isn't old at all..I wouldn't even class the desire old be honest...only classed ad old because New phones released all the time so its phone life in commercial not actual phone life!
Having a LG cookie is being old or tocco...etc

Your asking people that own one of the best android phones if they would recommend giving it up for a windows based phablet?
Something like this is ALWAYS personal opinion. Do you want a bigger screen and windows? It isn't running the 41MP pureview camera, so that doesn't really make much difference.
I meant to say, is it a decent choice as far as smart phones are compared. 21mp, 6" screen and full 1080p ips and expandable memory is what I'm looking at. I'm just tired of flashed and wiping and starting all oover. Just wanna stick with one system and the customizations and force closures ate really annoying. The bugs are my biggest issue with android which is why I think I kinda wanna changeover.

I doubt that the biggest issue with Android is the bugs. It is more likely the ability to change ROMs for something "better" - and it can be both a blessing and a curse. What's wrong with Stock LG ROM or debloated LG roms? With a few modifications you have the most stable, fluid and snappy ROM out there.
Going the WP way is going to be quite difficult for anyone coming from Android due to the smaller supply of apps and the lack of ability to change software and as previously mentioned that phone is just huge (or I have small hands). In the end, I wouldn't want to stand in your way of getting a new phone. Each ones need is different and if you feel the need for that phone, then go for it.
Smartphones are similar in specs nowadays, software and apps are all that matter - oh, and looks.
Yeah it's big but I love huge screens. Maybe I need to slow down and realize 6" and 2mp camera is not really enough to switch. I appreciate the honesty ppl.

Android all the way. This comes from a guy who loves Windows (on a pc). The beautiful thing about Android is the customization, screen and design options, and versatility. IPhone tells you what you can do with your phone and how big it's screen should be. Windows tried getting in and while they are not bad phones, either ios or Windows . But at the end of the day, how are you going to say my phone is better or cooler than yours? This alone I feel is what drives Android and its community. Its a conversation starter, a friend maker, a extension of your personality. It can be whatever you want it to be, as long as we keep devs happy and keep flashing there stuff and not complaining. Me and my buddy got in a shouting match in a bar one night over which is better. IPhone or Android. It almost ended with fists lol. No one can tell you which is better they can only tell you why they think its better.

Will you see,the input it's great and helps A lot. But in reality,I do a lot flashing and mods to my phone. Viper mod, trying different Roms (flex Rom,aeon v3, aokp) and using Gravitybox to change how it all looks in appeal. Honestly I work a lot and I tend to block out these friends I got as far as phones go. Personally I wanna have limits lol. Just a great performing phone and be done with that as I buy and trade phones way to often.

I'd say no, but I find wp8 very inefficient. Having all my apps in a list not a grid and having to swipe a bunch where on android it only takes a tap just seems that way to me. It is nice looking and easy to use, but it is not as full fledged as android.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
Never tried wp, but I like new shiny things and with Android you can change the look, feel and performance of your phone all the time. I have trouble keeping a phone for a year without getting bored with it, but I can just change the ROM and it feels like new again. I wouldn't leave Android even if someone paid me to.

Sooooo I managed to pick up a new 128gb windows surface tablet with accesories at Staples a few nights ago for literally $200. I paid about 20%of what it should have cost for everything I got. I love windows on my PC and I've been primarily an Android guy on my phones minus a couple drunken stoopers where I went to apple for a few months. I tried and tried to make myself enjoy the experience of windows mobile because of the cheap investment I managed to get in the tablet. All said and done, I just couldn't do it and I returned everything I had scored such a ridiculous deal on because it wasn't even worth the $200 to me that I had spent on it. Apps were just dismal at best and I just wasn't I interested in learning a new OS again. Android just always works, it has great Dev support, Google is spot on and committed to making the entire ecosystem better and above all it is just dependable. Windows belongs on a PC, Android belongs on my mobile devices. That's just how it needs to remain......

Don't hate me but if the iPhone 6 has at least a 5 inch screen, I might be looking to switch back. As for wp, would only consider it when they get more apps. As for now, I think the G2 delivers everything except a micro sd card slot...everything just works out of the box.

WP8 has significantly less apps, the battery life isn't all that stellar, and while it is super smooth and polished (visually), I wouldn't leave Android, Knock-On, QuickRemote and other stuff I gotten used to over the years.
But that's just me. if you want a solid phone that will work out of the box, is super easy and ergonomically good, go for WP8. But as soon as you find some visual or performance issues that you cannot rectify, you will be coming back to Android
