Bluetooth SSP Problem - Droid Eris Android Development

My rooted Eris is running 2.1. I seem to have the known bluetooth stack issues that prevent proper bluetooth operation with some apps that use SSP protocol (ie, OBDII engine analyzers). Is there a ROM build I can load that is known to correct this problem?
Thanks
Joe

try froyo worked for me

Thanks for the reply.
I was considering Froyo, but concerned whether the Eris version is stable enough yet. Any comments?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you are using a Sense based ROM. If so, the reason your Bluetooth SSP doesn't work correctly is because HTC designed Eclair Sense that way. Apparently, the full Android BT stack interfered with Sense somehow, so they neutered it.
Any AOSP ROM will "fix" the Bluetooth "issue." I personally recommend CELB 2.7 or the latest build of KaosFroyo.

I agree with this gentleman. CELB 2.7 and Kaos FroYo are the fastest builds for starters(my signature shows my average Linpack scores for both), they are AOSP so they run a bit smaller, and they are both built with CyanogenMod.

Android 2.1 on Hero

Hello all,
I know this topic most probably has been done to death here but I was wondering if anyone has tried this ROM and can provide some feedback on it.
http://www.taranfx.com/download-android-2-1-htc-hero
Thanks in advance
first ive heard of this its most prob a fake (ie not for the hero) try at your own risk lol any leaked hero rom would of been on here by now and i aint seen it lol
It's just behnaam and lox's rom community 1.8, ran it several times but I still prefer MoDaCo, none the less its pretty good and you get google navigation

It's for the GSM Hero & it's just early version the 2.1 build for the GSM Hero that Lox & Behnaam are working on.
I figured it was too good to be true but thought I'd better ask.
Is there any ROM greater than the 1.5 ROM that Sprint gives you for a CDMA Hero. I hear there's a 1.6 and a 2.0 ROM for Android, both of which have Google's turn by turn GPS thing. I'm looking to get that and also to hopefully get fixes for a number of problems.
My biggest problem is the stupid HTC Audio Manager which takes over control of AVRCP from my Bluetooth headset. One ROM I downloaded was just a zip file so I looked into it and saw this HTC Audio Manager thing. I was thinking I could simple remove it from the zip file and hopefully after flashing there would be no HTC Audio Manager to steal the AVRCP controls (Fingers crossed).
Thoughts?

2.1 working
Hey guys! The geek inside of me started off 2010 with the 2.1 rom. It's usable... But honestly, you have to comply with force closes, gmail not syncing and a few bugs here and there (htc widgets not working properly, for example). Yet, I was able to see and use the new google maps, the "new" market... So let's put it this way: if I had 2 heros, I'd put modaco 3.0 on one and the 2.1 on the other, but since I don't... I guess MCR 3.0 is the best a hero can get at present. Just my opinion (consider that the lazy me still hasn't found time to revert to MCR, if 2.1 was UNUSABLE I would have most definitely taken the time to do it already, right?).
Ciao

a lot. you should check the changelog. there were several updated roms from htc released since then, and the kernel sources were released also. 3.0 is based on .66 rom, and has the custom kernel developed by paul and teknologist.
a tip: if you can wait a few days, paul will be releasing 3.1 this week, which is based on an OFFICIAL .66 rom, which will have no market issues and is probably faster than anything else before...
thanks, sorry im noob. i think i'll wait for a stable version of the 2.1 rom to be released

Which 2.XX Rom is the best so far? What are you using?

im currently running AOSP 1.6 rom with gbhil custom kernal with setcpu, I really wanna switch to a newer ROM im reading alot about.
1. flipz n toast 2.1 v1.8-7
2. darchstar Cyanogen (like) 2.0.1
3. darchstar AOSP 2.1
which seems to be the best ROM with the most features and close to everything working correctly?
What is everyone using?

Still using fresh 1.1 Rom, going to try darchstar's AOSP 2.1 today. I will post when finished and let you know how it goes.
i won't use any 2.1 rom until the official comes out.
Now that multi touch and open gl is out thanks to toast, the sense 2.1 build has everything but the camara , mms receive at least for me it isnt working, and vvm
But I like the cyogen like 2.0.1 build a lot
I'm having problems in all of 'em. I like the live wallpapers, market, and maps of the AOSP 2.1, but there are quite a few bugs of things working then not working, then crashing, then working a little.
The Sense 2.1 is kinda nice, but no paid apps in the market and no live wallpapers.
I like the browser in AOSP more than the sense browser.
I haven't tried the 2.0 yet.
I don't think any of 'em are ready for prime-time. They're need, but all have critical issues.
official 2.1 is coming out soon, so I don't see much motivation to go for a custom 2.1 ROM.
Using darchstar's 2.1 right now and it is really fast!! The camera not to big of a deal(not working), But other than that should really give it a test try!!

nah, it was officially set at 2Q2010, which should be not too far off.
I agree with others, despite the massive amounts of work going into getting the kernels and roms working correctly, I will wait untill the official 2.1 as well...
wow either no one else here is trying Darchstar's 2.1 or 2.01 or im just lucky. I think his 2.1 is the best rom out, and I am including all the 1.5 and 1.6 roms in argument. Its my everyday rom, and I am a HEAVY user.
No camera = deal breaker for some.
no mms.. deal breaker.. But I use Sprint PIcture messaging website to get the missing pictures.. lol... and so I still use Darch's 2.1
the main purpose of the eclair i dev for is actually hopes of getting all hardware working in eclair with a .27 kernel. with that being said once sprint releases a 2.1 build for us we will be able to use a custom kernel in it. allowing for mods that extend beyond the build itself. the gsm hero devs know about this advantage as the .29 kernel they have runs slower then their .27 kernel in the builds. ive actually been passing my work on to lox as we fix things. trying to get them closer to a fully working 2.x build with .27 kernel under the hood also. all the 2.x builds will be buggy until we get atleast one official one to nab apps from and such. im thinking of the future right now. when sprint releases a rom and everyones pissed about source again. plus what we learn now will help us all later. i cant say one build is better then another. i guess its if u like sinse or aosp. or want this but not that. to me im just glad we are as far as we are. think about this... the dream guys dont even have opengl (as dream devs have come already looking to use our work) in their 2.x builds and the camera is half baked. also multitouch is a app hack. we have all but camera supported in a little .27 kernel and weve only had source for a few months. most said we wouldntve gotten this far in such little time. but we proved them all wrong.
I have been happy with every rom that I've found on this forum.
Gumbo 1.5c was the first I tried, and it was great. Some minor lag issues, but everything worked.
Now using toast + flips 2.1, and it's amazing. I miss my camera, but I'm not going to complain about it, because having multi touch and the consistency of how the phone runs is whats doing it for me. Thank god, I don't have to wait until Sprint releases one!
No offense to toast or anyone working on the 2.1 Sense ROM, but I tried it, and for me, it just didn't feel right. It was somehwat fast, but it did have moments of lag. Also, I didn't like all of the HTC stuff that came with it. I flashed darchstar's 2.1 AOSP, and WOW. It hit the spot. It's snappy because of the AOSP, and it has nothing "junky" in it. All I've done is flashed the HTC keyboard to it, and now it's wonderful Snappy, 2.1, AOSP, it's great. I don't really care about the live wallpapers, althought the Duck Hunt one was pretty nice.

Can we access picture mail from our phone browser and how do you know when you get a new message?
I'd like to throw it out there that after removing HtcCopyright.apk from darchstar's 2.1 AOSP, I've gotten rid of a lot, if not all, lag from the ROM. The speed also got ridiculously faster.

what is the most stable Rom?

I'm looking for the most stable Rom people have tried or have running on their phones? I have evil Eris currently but can't seem to get Facebook contacts to synch... so I'm going to try and flash a new one but would like to see what people say is the most stable with the least amount of bugs? would I be better off going to non modified version of a rooted 2.1? I just need the normal stuff to work and would like voice search and navigation to work... thanks for the help!
And I was going to make this a poll but didn't know all the different good roms available...
Try using Ivanmmjs Eris Official 0.8
I'm using the my touch rom currently and its running perfect.
Aloysius give you the best battery life hands down but its a sprint port which i dont care to much for. However it is a good ROM. Official Eris 2.1 v4 is a good ROM! Depends on what you want and what you like.
I'm running the leak 4 rombase that jcase put up... personally, I prefer stability over design but word has it that jamezelle is working on re-cooking his blue themed Sense-able ROM based on the rooted version of this latest leak.
when that happens, I'll be flashing right over!!
FYI - I was having facebook photo sync issues as well.
I suggest trying this app: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-nloko-android-syncmypix-qxEz.aspx
Worked wonders for me.
Leak 4 seems to be most stable but if you want to spice it up the sprint based roms are pretty cool. Yes the sprint roms sync very slowly but they eventually will sync everything. I have to wonder if the slow sync is related to the longer battery life?

+1, some call it v4, I consider it v3... but it's the most stable, and if it wasn't for this being leaked and rooted, id still be running Aloysius for sure.

[Q] New Epic, what to do?

Ok, So I just switched from the Evo over to my Samsung Epic and Not sure if i made the right move. Not a fan of Eclair(android 2.1) and I have not heard good news about the leaked 2.2 for the epic. I'm wondering whats an ideal setup on the epics. P.S Hi new to forum
I would pick a nice 2.1 rom and wait for official Froyo to launch. There are some bugs with DK28 that are annoying as hell when they occur. None of the things that DK28 fixes are absolutely necessary, such as the much improved GPS. GPS still functions on 2.1, just not nearly as well as on Froyo.

I ran syndicaterom for a while. It was very stable and nice. You can also pick a kernel to use in conjunction with whatever rom you use. Stock kernel is very stable obviously, but if you have concerns about battery life or something like that, or feel a need to overclock, there are kernels available that offer that. SyndiateRom comes with the Xtreme kernel if you flash the "Full" release, if I am remembering correctly. It is a very good all around kernel, although Phoenix 1.43 was always the best with regards to battery life for me.

Odin to dk28, one click root, then install bonsai rom and optionally install a theme.
With this setup my GPS works better than it has for any other phone (lock in 5-10 seconds). Flash works, and the system flies. Not many cons that I'm aware of.

Mine is spot on....running EXT4 and custom ROM
If you want working GPS and Flash support in the browser go with a leaked DK28 ROM (ViperROM w/ EXT4 is my personal favorite). GPS is better than ever on Froyo - it actually works now! Extremely well at that... There is a process for going to DK28 and making the GPS happy, as long as you follow that process you'll be in great shape. I really can't think of a reason to be on DI18, unless you need to go into a Sprint store for some reason.

Still overwhelmed, but I like your site's instructions, very thorough, thumbs up for that tip, I still am on stock rooted, but one of these days....at least this site is thorough...
I agree 2.2 is the way to go. The most of the problems on froyo can be pinpointed to a problem installing it. I've flashed froyo plenty of times and if you can get the gps steps down everything should be just fine. if your staying on eclair the overclocked syndicate rom is a beast.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I vote 2.2, I have it and haven't looked back. Its luck of the draw. Some get more bugs then others. I lucked out I guess.
Another vote for 2.2 here. My ROM recommendation is Quantum, it's well-supported and its developer is on top of his game. Some other ROMs include a lot of... gimmicks. Yeah, we'll go with gimmicks. (It slices, it dices, it automagically makes your internets faster!)
In any case, there's no real reason for Android 2.1. The leaked FroYo is stable at this point. If you're getting force closes then it probably means something went wrong during flash. If you can follow instructions then it's not difficult.

I haven't found a compelling reason to upgrade or perfmod. Gameloft games work with 1.6.0. I was stuck on 1.4.6 until 1.6.0 and do miss the "rear door check" being disabled. Many tweaks can be done without flashing.

I stayed on 1.6.1 because its stable. 1.7 doesnt support FFC for Fring and I use it a lot with my girfriend. I think I'll stick to this ROM till the great Dj_Steve comes up with Honeycomb.
Steve's 1.7.. its perfect!
I probably will upgrade when I get the confidence! Just really scared of upgrading and bricking the device. Compared to Touch Pro on WM - I remember upgrading to custom rom on the very first evening! I suppose this is partly because there was more room for WM to be improved on. I am very happy with Android tbh.
Would be really nice to use Honeycomb on this device, but somehow I think it's going to be challenging. I have heard a lot about DJ Steve's achievements, but...let's wait and see and support him however we can.
Another thing - I cannot find any screen shots of roms available - so less tempting to upgrade I think. If the designs were shown-off a bit better, I suppose I would do the leap of faith and upgrade
Current status
Currently running 1.4.6
reasons for this :-
tried 1.5.0, 1.5.1, 1.6.0, 1.6.1 had issues with all trying to use gps.

Have checked what 3rd part apps & widgets have been installed as well and even with minimal installed 1.4.6 seems best
