I've JUST got this phone and I'm having problems with the playback of downloaded videos. Either the sound is there and there's no playback or there's playback but no sound .... do i need to convert the file before download and if so what's the best download site to use?? I've tried quite a few sites with no luck at all .... just the same problem over and over. Also, is it possible to have an MP3 as an alarm/message tone? I've searched the phone and cant see the option anywhere and the booklet/leaflet that comes with it Isn't really much use, I've had to download the full instruction book to get my head around it, lol.
Good morning. Allow me to suggest that you edit the title for a phrase more telling. Thanks.

Video files must be mp4, wmv or 3gp but you can pay for yxflash or download wuzhenhua player i think to allow you to play avi's etc. The current version of rockplayer doesn't work with this device.
As for MP3 alarms, create a folder on your sd root called media and in that a folder called audio and finally a folder in audio called alarms. This is were you place your mp3's and they will appear in the alarm settings.
So the folder order from the sd card root is media>audio>alarms>yourmp3here.mp3
If you already have music on your device you can use astrofilemanager from the app store to create the folders without having to plug your phone to the pc
Sorry the playback license is not valid
I got this phone 3 months back . i purchased some realtones from a popular website and it downloaded successfully (the content is forward locked applied content). while play the content i got "Sorry the playback license is not valid" message.
Can you please help me on this.
Thnx
The two players where can i find them? I tried by google but did not get the latest app.

Hi All,
First post from a real novice. I have just got an xda 2 and am trying to copy a couple of movie clips from my pc to the mobile device.
Some copy and some do not. I have downloaded Pocket TV and
Pocket MVP and highlighted both, separately, when trying to copy in explorer. Every time I get an error message. This is the second half of one of the files I am trying to copy:
My Documents\Audi Pictures\hendrixTTad.mpeg.mpg
Appreciate any help in advance.
Have you tried playing them through the inbuilt windows media player version 9. What is the nature of the error, is it when you are copying the files ot attempting to play them?

When I am in Media Player (9) on my desk top in the 'Copy to CD or Device section' - I hit copy and it comes up 'An Error occurred' on the text of the file. It doesn’t even start to copy etc. The file plays perfectly well on the desktop media player.
Thanks
try to drag and drop the file using file explorer.

Nice one! I copied the file to my documents in the xda on my lap top and it worked.
Then when I went to Pocket TV it was there ready to go.
A couple of quick questions: 1) What is the quickest way to get to 'My Documents' on the xda 2?
Where exactly are these mpegs stored as I can only view them when I'm in Pocket TV?
Thanks again.
my advice is to use pockettv it's a better player then wmp9

I like pockettv, but it only seems to play mpegs. Is this the case?
It seems that I have to watch mpegs in Pockettv, Microsoft files in Media player and AVI's won't play in either. I got Pocket divx, but it won't play any file with sound. It keeps comming up with an audio error and invariably crashes. Am I doing something wrong here or is there a one for all solution?> Thanks.
Take care of the codecs used for audio / video
When you create files for the ppc, you have to make sure, that you use only codecs for the audio / video part, that are supported by the players / device.
Check http://www.mathiaspohl.de/mda for a short "How to" guide about the creation of divx or WMV files for the pocket pc.
If your file cannot be played by the media player, just re-encode this like described on this page.

I'm having some trouble. . .
On my Wing, it seems that it wont really play any of the videos I store on my SD card. I've got maybe 300 gigs of media on my box, and I realize that the device supports 3GP, MP4, and AVI files, though I have no idea what versions of those extensions will play.
I have tried converting file types, file strengths (encoding, etc) to no avail. At one point I condensed an episode from my Robot Chicken DVD (picked for hilarity as well as small file size) and though the file was say, 50 MB on the computer (and played using WMP), and 50MB on the phone, it only played and scrolled as if the file was 5 seconds long on the phone.
Just like the blackberry, I assume there is a converter, or something I am otherwise missing here. All I really want to be able to do is to take a DVD, or take a file I've created, found, unearthed while deep-sea diving, etc, and play it on my Wing.
Where do I start?
EXTRA BONUS QUESTION: I installed Opera Mini as an alternative browser in root, which I now realize is IMPOSSIBLE to access. I believe a memory wipe should cure that. Would it be accessable if I store it on say, the SD card? Through file manager maybe?

Media player sucks for viewing any type of video on your phone. I suggest you install TCPMP and you should be fine. Do a search on the forum and you should find it pretty easy. As far as your Opera Mini Question....you should be able to run it from your SD card just fine.
Much appreciated, roman, I had figured it would be something like that. Glad to be rid of WMP too.
Clarifying question: How do I play the files through TCPMP? Ive tried from the file itself in file manager and it tries to launch WMP. I dont see a "file > open" type pathway within TCPMP itself.
What am I missing there?
add the file to it's playlist

There is actually a open tab thing in TCPMP, on the botton control bar in the player, click on the first tab from the left and in there there is the open option. And if you want the files to automatically open with TCPMP when you acces them from the file explorer etc. then you go to the TCPMP sttings and then to file associations. IN there select the files that you want to be asociated with TCPMP, and i think after a soft reset, they will automatically be opened with TCPMP.

Most of my movies or videos are in AVI or MP4.
I thought I fixed this by asking in previous post but obviously not.. NO MATTER HOW I ADD MUSIC to my SD card, Touch Flo Music app gives Audio Manager_eng.exe error!! Hard Reset, Soft Reset, Delete Audiomanager file, editing/resetting registry, using drag and drop, using Media Monkey..ALL no luck.
How and what do you guys do to play music via your SD card on Touch Flo music app...step by step guide most appreciated - what do I delet, what do I name folders etc...Merry Xmas
have you tried syncronising using windows media player? and if the media is on the card, you should be able to select the albums using options in the tf3d media player, if it crashes and you havent done anything that voids your warranty, try HTC support. because if a hard reset doesnt fix the problem its a problem in your rom,
what also possibly could cause it to crash is if you try to play an unsupported media file,
hope to have given you some new information or suggestions!

This is the ssimple answer.
You might want to reinstall Audio manager using a new installation file. Yours could have quite possibly become corrupt. Do a search and find an original CAB on here. I'm sure I saw it on somewhere here. Otherwise...send your phone in for the support guys to take a look. Might be worth a shot.
You were right! Now I realize it does not seem to support m4a files...removed them, still no luck...after 2 hours I found a rogue m4a file in my library...Unbelievable! I thought it would just ignore the file type rather than corrupt all??
Thank you anyway.

Nope this is not correct, all of my music (hundreds of songs) in my SD are in m4a format (AAC encoded within iTunes), they all play perfectly work perfectly, no problem whatsoever, even the artist/song/album info and cover art is working fine from m4a.
Something else is the problem here.
I just wanted to prevent missinformation, the blackstone DOES play m4a (AAC) without any problems (Main Memory or SD doesn't make a difference...)

Well, MOST of my music is in M4A files; I originally converted all my CD collection to M4A for my old Sony Walkman phone because the AAC-type format seemed to give better sound quality for a given file size compared to MP3.
And so far, it's only been one rogue file that has given me problems on the HD, although I noticed that it does tend to mess up the playing order.
Maybe there's something different in the codecs that you are using or something. I seem to recall that I used Nero to encode mine.
I'm confused then..would the fact that I use a Mac be the issue - Itunes purchases - DRM Free ( though I use Bootcamp to do all music transfers etc..).
.mp3's will not play. .avi's will not play (through TCPMP). .mp4's will not play.
SURELY I don't need to convert songs before I transfer them to my device? But either way, they will not play. Video's have never played.
Currently using HSPL with Artemis v13. I bought the HD2 because of the amazing screen, but seeing as I can't watch films on it, it's not much good to me, just a phone, which I could trade in for a cheaper one and earn some money! ANY ideas at ALL what I can do with this guys? I seem to have tried everything.
You must have installed something that has caused this problem, because it's out-of-the-box functionality to play mp3 & mp4 files (for AVI you would need tcpmp/coreplayer).
Did it work before you flashed the Artemis ROM? I seriously doubt that the ROM is the cause here though, as you'd most likely not be the first person to notice
When you say "they don't play", what actually happens? If you open file explorer and find an mp3 or mp4 file and click it, what happens?
On stock rom, .mp4's stay stuck on 'Loading...' but never move, on Artemis 'Loading...' pops up briefly, then disappears. With .mp3's the music player just skips through the songs until it reaches the end. TCPMP and Coreplayer say 'unknown file format' on .avi files. I have tried all manner of conversion software, but nothing ever seems to work. I remember when I first got the phone, out the box, it played mp4's quite merrily, but issues began after I had to hard-reset it. I'm not sure if that's just coincidence. It's bloody annoying though!
I wish there was a phone media player out there that did the same job as VLC on desktops, i.e. it will play a used a toilet roll if you want it to!
John, Could you perhaps link me the .cab you use for TCPMP? I have used 3 or 4 different .cabs I've seen lying around, but none of them do the job.
There's something wrong with your phone mate. If it didn't play mp3s out of the box then it won't play them - sorry but it's that simple.
I'd recommend sending it back to your supplier as faulty.
Edit:
I can't link you to a tcpmp cab that I use because I bought Coreplayer, but in fairness, if you've tried 3 or 4 different ones and it doesn't work then there's definitely something wrong with the phone. Maybe the device memory is corrupted (physically) - who knows. But it really does just sound knackered I'm afraid.
i would flash stock rom (and overwrite hspl) and then check, if it can play media files again.
if so, it was your rom. if not, somethings wrong with your phone.
grace to ospl and stock rom, you could return it now and get a new one
but i'm nearly 100% sure, that its your rom.

OK lads, cheers.
Better swap the SPL back and flash stock rom before I send it to O2 I guess .
One other question - for the device to play video (either .mp4 or .avi) does the file need to be a certain frame width / height and frame rate, bitrate etc, or will it play any .mp4 extension (or .avi extension, with TCPMP)?
can play every mp4 file...
sometimes with lags or something, but its still playable.

So I tried purchasing an MP3 from Amazon and it downloaded fine and I put it in my "my music" folder. But it wont show up in my native Sense MP3 player. When I go in and explore the folder I see it and it will let me open it with windows media player, but it wont show up in the native sense player. Anyone else have this problem?
Also, what does everyone use for purchasing MP3's? Amazon says I need some MP3 downloader software otherwise it wont let me purchase the music? What gives?
The native Sense player has a "Purchases" section. The most far right tab I believe. Try checking there.
Yea, I just tried purchasing a song from there (its amazon), and it makes you download a .amz file and that starts your download. Unfortunatley the broswer doesnt do anything once you download it. DUMB!
This is like the first thing that has really upset me about this phone!!!! I cant download music on the go..... thats some BS!!!

What exact folder does it put the music in? It could be that it places the newly downloaded song in the program files folder for the amazon download app, which is hidden from the sense music player indexing (all of the program files folder is that way).
Well I got that part figured out, I just did one of their free songs and got everything working.
But then I actually purchased one, which downloads this .AMZ file which is suppose to initiate the download of the actual mp3 file, but it doesnt seem to do anything. When I click on it it says there is no program associated with the file.

Ok I just googled it, and the .amz file requires the desktop downloader from Amazon...I don't know that Amazon has any method to download paid songs that don't require that app or a mobile client (like android has).
Wow, I cant believe that nobody has ever used that "shop music store" function in the native player!!!!?

I get the feeling it was just never fully implemented as amazon never produced a winmo client, and I've never seen any other direct-to-device MP3 stores for winmo.
This makes me sad pandas!
