Hey,
since many people do not want to root their Vodafone HTC Magic smartphone (and use a custom ROM), I created a petition to show Vodafone how many of their customers want an official upgrade to a new Android 2.X Android OS.
You can easily support this petition by signing it here:

Hey All,
I just switched from my HTC Touch PRO to the HTC Hero. I use Sprint as a carrier and I am looking forward to getting used to the Android platform. My phone is running the following rom.
Firmware: 1.5
Baseband: 1.04.01.09.21
Kernel: 2.6.27-533ce29d
Build: 1.29.651.1
Software: 1.29.651.1
Anyhow, I was wondering if I could upgrade to 2.73.405.5 ROM. I know that this is available for Europe but I don't see it for US yet. Is there a big enough difference between ROMs that I would not be able to upgrade?
Thanks for the help in advance and I hope to be able to contribute to the community with so apps.
The problem with having the US version is that it is (correct me if I am wrong) the only CDMA android device so far. Although 1.6 Donut should have CDMA support, it was not included, so they opted to modify 1.5 to make it work. Anyway, the point is this:
1) we will see some official update in the next month or so from Sprint, HTC, or maybe android 1.6 (?)
2) We are all in need of root access to the phone to start getting some cool ROMs, the new radio, wifi-tether, etc

I second both of these I have been reading about problems with this phone and it seems to me that they are all related to the modification of the 1.5 rom to make CDMA work and to get it out to the consumer as soon as possible
Can someone provide me with a Nandroid backup of the Sprint Hero ROM? If so, i'm happy to do a MoDaCo Custom ROM for it?

Have we confirmed whether the kernel vulnerability is fixed on the Sprint Hero?

As has been already stated, chances are if you "upgraded" to an EU ROM your phone wouldn't work any more due to lack of CDMA support in the EU builds.
However, thus far we've no evidence that the Sprint build is a "lower" build than the EU versions, as the build number sequence seems to be totally different. Apparently the Sprint Hero shipped with the Sense UI performance enhancements that we now have in EU 2.73 builds, so it seems to me you're unlikely to gain anything anyway. In fact, you'll just lose stuff like the Sprint specific apps.

Dave
hey thers is a new system dump from sprint hero available here....can anyone tell me dat is dat possible for me to flash it on my phone...
http://www.androidspin.com/component/content/article/3-latest-news/169-new-sprint-hero-system-dump
It's almost certainly just a dump of your existing ROM. As the thread you posted suggests, it's for devs only and you shouldn't attempt to flash it.

Dave

didn't it just get released today? And yeah search is my friend.... Just didn't see a point to do another search from the one I did yesterday if this thread wasn't updated as I was assuming with the title it would be easier for us sprint users to see this thread is for the cdma version but alas my mistake
Hi,
I just bought a HTC hero just today and i notice that i dont have android app store but i have something called SlideME how do i get android app store on my htc hero and also my phone has 1.5 firmware version and i want to know how i can update ? to the latest ?
please help me thank you
Hi, The app store you refers to are called "Market" in Android. When the upgrade is ready for your country depends. Heard Scandinavian countries, Russia and a few others will get the upgrade at 2nd April.
Why doesnt my htc hero not have android market !
Hi,
I just want to know is it normal to not have android market on my htc hero ? because i don't have android market on my phone instead i have SlideME And my phone is from Asia does it still get any update ? thank you
Hi,This is the same thing which happened to me. I live in the usa. I bought a Unlocked hero, without Market. But with Slideme. What you have to do,in order to get the market app, is to flash your phone, with another generic ROM that has market. Or you can Root the HEro and Update it with a Custom ROM.My hero is unlocked,I have flashed it numerous times with different types of ROM,it does not effect the unlock,But I would recommend updating the radio,if it is not already
To: Starscrean
Hey Starscrean did you flash your phone to the generic htc hero ROM ? Because i want the generic htc hero ROM if you did can you tell me how to flash my phone or where you got your information from. and can you tell me what "updating the radio" mean
Because that would be helpful thank you
xda forums have a long list of instructions on how to flash the rom. You should need to root ur phone first. Go under the q&a and android development in the forum under htc hero. The stickies are really useful. I think the the unlockr has a good guide how to root and flash a rom. Im am pretty new at this as well but i manage to come out ok..should be fine as long as you do your homework and NOT flash the wrong roms!!!
Hi guys ,
Well i bought my HTC hero on eBay like many others it did not come with android market would the new HTC hero 2.1 update give me android market ?
Should i update my phone? or should i flash my phone to a custom ROM to guarantee a android market in my phone? Don't know what to do please help.
Cheers, and many thank you
I recommend flashing a custom ROM (following the guides on xda) If you update to the official 2.1 from HTC you won't be able to root or have a custom ROM (at least for quite a while anyway).
Now i'm going to guess the next question would what ROM do you recommend and all I can say is I use VillainROM 10.3, its all I've ever used and I like it
hi
I searched wm site, but couldn't find any information how to update hd2 wm6.5 to 6.5.3.
I don't want to flash any custom rom. Prefer to stay with official rom.
Any solutions?
there is only one solution, cooked rom.
@OP: Are you in the US and on T-Mobile?
in Turkey. unlocked.
The T-Mobile website has this file available for download for free, but you have to be a T-Mobile subscriber. The download asks for your IMEI number as well, so I'm not sure if this makes a difference. I suppose I could try to zip up the rom installer for you and upload somewhere, but I don't know what kinds of issues you'd run into, installing a US based rom on your device. You may just want to wait until a version is released in your locale.
Let me know your thoughts and I'll figure something out with you.
can anybody advice if that will cause any problem for making T-mobile update to a non-Tmobile device?
yes you can run tmous rom on regular hd2.
no, there is not a 6.5.3 official rom. if that is the implication two posts up, it is incorrect.
I have found on my experience that cooked ROM´s from great Chefs at XDA are always much better than stock ones, sai that and if you want to try them, read the sticky posts on ROM section.
If you want to go back again to stock you can do it with no problem.
Good luck,
I think Windows Mobile kinda scrapped the project its finish but seems like carriers don't care about updating their devices since not much change. That I know the only device running 6.5.3 its the sony ericsson Aspen and some motorola rugged phone for sprint.
well, i just read on pocketnow, that there is now an upgrade for the Tattoo (in so-call over-the-air) available: http://pocketnow.com/android/htc-tattoo-and-htc-hero-receive-official-firmware-updates here's the souce, i don't really know, what to think about this.
Is this an upgrade for the Official 1.6-rom to any higher build (ie 2.1 or more) or just a small upgrade package? anyway, this upgrade would (maybe) help the devs for some fixes in custom roms.
So far...
seems that only the application Peep is updated due to some problems of authentification.
The new rom is still in 1.6.
HTC have it but when they will deliver it in public ?
