Hello everybody,
I'm kindly asking you to give me an advice concerning the possibility to use the phone in other network than that in which it is locked. Practically, I intend to buy a locked HD2 on e-bay (there are also unlocked phones offered, but the locked ones are cheaper) and I want to know if it would be possible to unlock it with my sim card (unlock it) and also to flash another (cooked) ROM on it. Is it relevant in which network is locked the phone, or it can be unlocked regardless the original network? If it's possible, which would be the safest way to do it (HardSPL?)?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hey
your phone can be unlocked, but you will have to use an unlocking service, some network providers will provide an unlock code for a fee (O2 is free) if you've been with them for a certain amount of time, or you could try http://www.unlock-now.com/ - very quick service (got my unlock code in 30mins) for €25.
just one option, you may find cheaper alternatives on ebay?

First off is it a TMOUS HD2 or a EU version?
And Second where are you?? EU or US.
There is a guy on ebay that is very reliable, a lot of people here use him, and I as well, got my unlock code in 15 minutes , for $10 ..
The phone can be unlocked no matter where it is from and you can flash custom ROMs ...
Depending on which version of phone it is and where you are at , your mileage may vary on service ....
You cannot sim unlock the phone with a flash, but you can use HSPL3 to put pretty much any compatible ROM on it, again depends on which version of the phone ...
Hope that helps a little ....
Buy it on eBay. Save some money. They have unlock codes for as low as $10.00 and since it's eBay, your money is safe too just in case the code doesn't work, although I haven't heard of anyone complaining so far.
yup buy unlock code from ebay... i got it from swiftunlocks i think... 15 bux, but got it quick ...

is there any solution to unlock htc herald
thx
I was looking for one all over the web. Didn't find any. Dozens of unlock utility available for wizard, hermes, universal and many others but no herald. http://www.imei-check.co.uk/heraldunlock.php can do this, but it's not free, that really sucks

Hi guys!
1st Thank you very very much for the good work about our PDA.
I am new owner of a beautyfull Herald but it is network locked. I don't want to registare to imeicheck (for obvious reason) and I really hope that you will not forget to cook a special rom to SIM Unlock the Herald PDA.
I will stay tuned for happy news!!!

Unlocking works, it looks like they use the same unlocking code used on other htc device, just preformed from there servers. really efficient! It cost me $40 us dollars though. Am i hearing this doesnt Super CID the phone though.
I currently have an unlocked herald I use with t mobile. BUT .. I know for sure if you're a tmobile consistent customer for several months, you can request an unlock code and they will send it 2 you via email within 24 hours. I did that once, told them I was going over seas and plan to use a pre paid sim card. No questions asked, they sent me the code with instructions to unlock my phone. I believe you can also request an unlock with Cingular as well, but read somewhere they will try to give question you to death, but you'll get one. hope this helps.

to falsh roms with different languages.
WWE = WorldWideEnglish
GER = german rom
etc. you can only flash the rom from your country.
When you have it cid-unlocked you can flash every rom.
lol

The unlock code is provided based on your IMEI so without giving that up you cant unlock.
Check out ebay for "hd2 sim unlock" <<< This method is temporary!!!
Try htccode.com, I use this several times for both some Hero and HD2, 15euro each as I remember. U get ur code in about 10'. They are reliable.

If you use the ebay chip you pop it in your phone with a different providers sim card it fools the phone into thinking that the sim is from the phones original provider.
When you take the ebay chip out the phone it reverts to being locked to the original providers sim again.
Well I would prefer payin some on XDA rather than another website..!!!

Thanks for making that clear and yes you are right about it being somewhat flaky!
Sorry for bringing this one up, but I have a similar problem. I have HardSPLed my O2 device and then applied WWE 1.66 - Artemis 5.5 Even though I considered the sim lock long gone (this is my first network locked WM device), it is still there! My question is, why? What is the art of a ROM that controls it? Is it hackable? Is it necessary to rely to third party "unlockers" (that I guess have access to the "keygen")?
PS. I already have an old school "sim adaptor" but hey, curiosity never killed the cat.
roms and sim lock - totally unrelated, currently the only way to sim unlock is by getting the code from the provider, or the various websites that offer the service.nothing you do to the rom will affect sim lock.
I already unlocked my hd2 from ebay and it is working for any sim card
My sim unlock works as permanent. I bought it from ebay giving my imei number. And it is very cheap than the shops in london. just for £7.00.

I am in the U.S. and have Tmobile HD2. Which unlocker service do you recommend and how long does it take.
Try searchin on ebay.co.uk..!!!
Just type HD2 SIM Unlock in the search & you'll find loads of them..!!!
Mmmmm oh yes! OH NOOOO!
So I got my HD2 couple of days ago....... locked on T Mobile UK ..... And it's a 2010 model so a recent build.....
Tried unlocking it - T mobile UK WONT give me the unlock code unless I am on their contract for 3 months and then there will be a 15gbp charge for the actual unlock code
HTC Unlock code does not work! - BECAUSE T Mobile UK Modifies the unlock code provided by HTC
And to top it all up I tried at least 5 unlock services so far but no go! All of them told me the same thing ... that my IMEI as too new and is NOT in their databases....
At this point I am really honestly stuck What can I do to unlock my mobile because I cannot use it If anyone is kind hearted enough over here. Kindly p.m. me with a solution
I was going to use HSPL2 but I guess that the Sim lock will simply remain there because from what I understood HSPL2 just allows you to install cooked roms and allows you to reflash in the case something goes wrong with your installed ROM and the phone goes dead..... But I am not too sure that it removes SIM Locks.
Also I don't know the actual difference between an OP Lock / A Sim Lock and a CID Lock. Anyone can enlighten me?
Many Thanks
Al

The best way is to call T-mobile. I've already unlocked two HD2 with the unlock code provided by T-mo.

I used HTC unlocked to unlock my TMOUS HD2. They were very fast and easy to deal with.
Hello,
Probably will buy this device tomorrow, used, dont sure ifs its unbranded or Vodafone (Portugal) branded.
I have a question ...
- If it's unbranded (and so on unlocked), there's anything I need to know (something in the firmware), so I can install "anything" I want?
- If its branded and sim locked... it's easy to unbrand and unlock? Should I take a look of something on the firmware?
Really appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Tiago
There is no good way yet to unlock the htc tattoo locked to orange uk except from using the ismart sim 2008. Besides the simlock problem, you have a smaller screen than other android devices. So some apps or games might not work properly.. but most of them do. Also you have limited access to the market, that is, you can access products that have been specified htc tattoo compliant only unless you root the device and install the cracked market app. Besides that everything is ok.

I never said it's tattoo orange uk... I said maybe its vodafone portugal tattoo...
smaller screen? what's the normal screen for tattoo ?
he ment its small screen, compared to other HTC phones, most phones got 3+ inches screen, tattoo is 2.8.
about unlocking - its ur rights to try put ur sim card in the phone before u buy it. Myn was unlocked, thought they sayd its locked to they network. At same time - they use same phones for selling as locked to they network with a contract, as same phones for selling it for full price...

I dont want to count with simcard... always had problems with it.
So its not easily possible to unlock and unbrand a tattoo ?
Dude, if I had the chance I would have bought a device which is easily upgradeable to another Android OS or other ROMS (maybe with different OS').
But returning to your issue:
Unbranding shouldn't be a problem (I removed Vodafone Germany branding), but with unlocking there are problems with certain providers. Just put your SIM in first and see if it boots, otherwise I would take another device if the tattoo should be locked.

But if I put my TMN sim card on Vodafone Tattoo, it's suppose to work ?
Not understood what you explained, sorry.
Some carriers sell phones that are locked to them, others sell unlocked phones.
Here in the UK for instance, vodafone phones are not locked and an HTC Tattoo bought from them can be used with any SIM. Ones sold by Orange are locked to them and can only be used with an Orange SIM.
I do not know if Vodafone in Portugal lock their phones or not, the simple way of checking is by trying your non vodafone SIM and seeing if it works.
Unlocking the Tattoo can be done but costs $15 or so I believe (although with the Desire they then charge you another $20 - a very dodgy practice), far better to buy one that's not locked in the first place unless you want to use it on the carrier it's locked to.
You posted a couple of days ago - have you already bought the phone? Was it unlocked? Or have you not bought it yet?

Now I understood.
Here in Portugal, ALL phones are SIM Locked. Unlock goes from 50$ to 150$.
That's why I asked if it's easy to do it by us.
HTCCode.com say on the front page that it costs $15 but people in the Desire forum are saying they are being told that their device costs more - but only after they've paid the $15.
Hey I just got the Tmobile HD2 but I have ATT and was wondering whats the best and fastest website to unlock this phone.
It it is a Tmobile HD2 you should be able to call them , they will unlock it ....

No, flashing a ROM is completely separate from sim-unlocking The upside to that is that once you sim-unlock it, you can flash all you want without having to do it again.
Ok. Thanks for the help. I tried TMobile but they said only if I am a tmobile customer. So thats why I was asking for a good unlocking website. But I will try tmobile again today. Thanks again. But if anyone knows of a good one just in case can you please post it.

Hi, I'm currently using a Focus across Europe, successfully.
Mine was bought in US and initially SIM locked to AT&T. Paid for unlock and now is SIM unlocked (flashing, restoring, downgrading, upgrading etc. firmware doesn't affect SIM lock).
So yes, you can buy it, unlock it (fastgsm or ebay) and use with no issues across the world, actually, not only Europe.

thanks for the replay and for the answer buddy =)
Yes, I got it from eBay.
However, I specifically chose one which buyer said specifically it works for any carrier in the world ("world-wide phone").
It's working beautifully, I am very pleased about it.
Some tip about buying from eBay, in case you aren't used to it(like I was):
Make sure you read carefully the buyer description.
For example, being in hurry, while I did make sure about other things, I didn't notice that it didn't include a micro-USB data cable. It's my fault, the buyer actually didn't mention about it.
Also, the charger was not the original one(Samsung Traveler). The buyer just mentioned 'charger'.
These are really not important at all as I got an original micro-USB for like 10$.
I was more interested about phone being in good shape and that it works in my country.
But since you have to choose it might help you.
Good luck!
