email bug

I am having a problem with the email app, and wonder if anyone has seen this or can suggest a solution.
When I open the app to add an email account, I get a window which (patronizingly) explains how I will be done in 2 easy steps; I hit Next; I get a window asking for url and password ECXEPT this time the Next box is grayed out. I can't hit Next! There is also a "Manual Setup" button next to the Next button but it is also gray and I cannot press it either. My only option is to escape. I reset to factory settings. Same problem. There must be a defect in my factory settings? Is this a symptom of a bigger problem? Can I fix this, or download a fresh copy? How do I check email?

have you tried entering your email and password?

yeah its not URL is email you put in.And the email app sucks anyways. go to market place and download k-9. Its much better, with the same type of easy setup.

Of course I've tried that. For instance, I type: mail.pas.rochester.edu. and [password], still nothing. And why would "manual setup" also not work? I don't want load my phone with redundant apps, and iif this one is not working how do I know there isn't a greater problem?

Its not asking for a url or your email server ip. Its asking for your actual email address. ie [email protected]ter.edu or whatever it may be.

What type of email are you trying to set up? I had the same problem when trying to set up my hotmail account. It wont accept much except gmail, i think?

E-mail configuration on G1
Hi friends,
I have another problem with e-mail (POP3/IMAP) application on G1.
Everything's working fine except the e-mail automatic checking (that could be set up on some period of time) and deleting messages from the server.
1. Automatic checking (for POP3 or IMAP settings) is not working - don't know why... So, I have to check e-mail manually by clicking in Inbox or using refresh button
2. Deleting messages (for POP3 settings) is not working at all. Even if it is set up to delete messages from the server and message is deleted - it is going to Trash folder, then if it is deleted from Trash and refreshed it is still existing on the server and in the Trash folder on G1. I really don't know how to get it working... I have tried a few settings and it is not removing messages from the server at all.
Is anybody have it working? Thanks in advance for any help!

It is the same for me using [email protected] with the correct password, just keeps saying that the username or password is wrong, which it isnt.

Pop email not being downloaded after marking for download

Hey there, got my HD 2 yesterday, set up most software and am a happy camper. Until I tried downloading the rest of an email that I received.
I mark it for download and it just doesn't.
No matter if i connect through GSM/3G/Wifi. It does download new messages, but does not download attachments or the rest of the message.
Standard Pop3 email,, not outlook, imap or exchange. The full mails remain on the server for 10 days, so they are still on the server (i checked).
Do you guys know if there is a log file somewhere that might give me clues? Any ideas?
I will delete the mail account and set it up anew now. Will post if it fixes it.

Ok, this is weird. I just reviewed the account settings and found they had changed, the pop Username in particular. I can't remember changing it, since i had entered it correctly since i did receive the truncated mails properly in the first place...

Ok, here's how it goes down. DO NOT GO BACK INTO ACCOUNT SETTINGS FROM THE SENSE EMAIL TAB.
It will replace the Username with the part before the @sign from the email address. So if your email is [email protected] but your username is username.popmail, it will automatically replace username.popmail by who.ever
Go through INBOX>MENU>TOOLS>OPTIONS to change your settings, they will be permanent there (as you end up in WinMo UI there).
This is anoying since you have to re-enter your pop login after you mistype MENU>SEND/RECEIVE from the Sense tab cause ACCOUNT SETTINGS is right next to it...

Problem setting up pop3 Email

I convinced the Mrs to get get a wildfire (nice!) but having set up pop3 exactly like i set up on my Hero it says the password/username is incorrect, even tho the password or username is fine!
anyone else had this problem?
i checked to see if all the set up options were the same as my hero and they match perfectly.............any ideas?
the only thing anomalous is the sim card isnt working yet as her number ports today, but connection is fine over wifi

Don't know if this will help, but I set mine up to my yahoo email account using IMAP without any issues.

Ok I now know its not a fault specific to the wildfire, I've tried setting up her email on my hero, with the same result. I've also used my pc to log on using her password and username with no problem at all..........weird!
As I said previously my own pop 3 sets up fine and is also with the same provider, yahoo in this instance, the only thing I can guess at is wether there is a user name length issue? Hers is only 12 letters long tho?
Will try imap and let you know, thanks for the suggestion or try the yahoo app.

installed the yahoo email app from the market and the email comes thru fine with the mrs password etc.....wtf?!!! now i just want to get the HTC email app to work.......really dont get why this not connecting

weirder still!
just got my old diamond working and using the htc email app set up the mrs email account with no problem......
oh also works on my old Xda exec.........................

are u setting it up manually or automatic. Because when i put my hotmail account in its working fine automatic. Manually i have no idea.
Also exchange and of course gmail works great on this phone!

Thanks for looking in I've tried to set up both ways even comparing with the settings on my hero, strangely all looks fine!
And as I said her settings work on every device I've tried except sense on android.

Possible temporary solution
I bought this phone yesterday for my younger brother and since then its.. f***ing my mind out how to setup his email...
Well after trying all bull**** and even going on email settings tweaking it several times could not get the mails on Wildfire...Also the problem is not with username or password length coz tried to change that too..
For some reason though my account could be setup in a fly on his cell.. but for his own account i had to find a temporary solution
Tap Email setup >> type ur username and password and click manual setup>> Then in the first drop down menu Select POP instead of IMAP >> in the pop server box type pop.gmail.com>>Click on next and finish the process...
Note: For my account IMAP setup was done pretty quickly so it seems to be error from GMAIL server side i have mailed them to look into the matter and resolve the bugs if any.

Works fine for me both POP3 and IMAP.
I am thinking of switching to K9 mail though.

DUDE i wish my bro was as lucky as you.. in any case no development goin on here for wildfire i hope i am not the one to make the first Custom ROM for it..

Password Length
In case anyone comes across this thread as I did looking for an answer to this question:
The length of your Hotmail Password was the culprit for my login success. I had a 17 character password and kept getting "Authentication Failed..." I then tried shortening it to 10 characters and it worked like a charm.
I hope this is the solution to a problem many others have been reporting.

[Q] Can't sign in to You Tube

Am i doing something wrong?
I see a video and try to select the thumbs or favorite, I can't remember, but it prompts me to sign in. I can't select sign in but I can select create new account.
What is going on?
I am logged into my google account.
I just bought this thing last night for my son and I and so far we are happy.

I found the issue for my account (this may or may not apply to yours). The issue was that the e-mail address I thought was registered in fact was not.
For instance if your youtube account was originally subscribed under a yahoo e-mail address. It was later converted to be accepted as a gmail account. I was attempting to use my actual g-mail account instead of the yahoo account that was originally subscribed.
You can verify which e-mail you should use by logging onto YouTube on your PC. Under account, click "manage account". It will show what true e-mail is used to sign you in.

I went to you tube and this what i got:
"Do you already have a YouTube Account?
Yes. Add YouTube to my Google Account.
Enter your YouTube username and password to add YouTube to your Google Account."
So I signed in and this what I got next:
"You have linked your YouTube account (XXXXX) to your Google Account ([email protected]).
Note: Your old YouTube password will no longer work. You need to use your Google Account password from now on.
If you made a mistake, you can re-link XXXXX to a different (or a brand new) Google Account here. "
I will try Youtube later when i get home to see if this works.

Let me know how it works. Sounds like you should now be set-up. One last thing. Once I had the correct email/password (which is sounds like you definetely have with the new account link), I went to YouTube on my Acer. Funny thing was, I had to still click the "Create Account" button. Once I did that then entered the e-mail and password, it acknowledged the account and migrated my profile.

Cant do it. i linked mygoogle acccount its still a no go. i tried the create account but backed out and tried to log back in, but that didnt work.
i keep getting the google account already exists. try again......

Wow, sorry to hear that my friend. Hate I couldn't help you on this one. The only other thing I can suggest is searching the issue with Xoom users (as they had the same issues). It seems like they found some fixes. Here is one link I found:

I will try when I get home.
After a few random force closes and some weird issues with browser randomly closing, I may opt for the Transformer, if I can find one. I know its Honeycomb related, but if I can get the 2 side-by-side, maybe the Acer goes back.

Yahoo Email Generated APP KEY ....but don't know how to enter in TypeApp

I am having several probs, one being email. Gmail is fine but I prefer TypeApp At first I thought it was the phone but then realized it is Yahoo asking for an App Key
I sign into TypeApp and they tell me to enter the app key password in the app, not my real one. I keep getting "wrong password"
Could someone give a suggestion on where to enter AND Possibly recommend a good PUSH email app.
