I swore I would never do this... - Droid Eris Android Development

If anybody could help me root my phone using tereg's method that would be great. I've tried using dd to flash tereg's sd card, using dd to flash the 60 partition image to root, I've followed the tutorial and all else since day one.
I've done everything, but for the life of me I cannot get my phone in adb recovery.
I can't ship my phone off anywhere, I just need advice please.

The Droid-X sounds good

maybe we should start a thread where local people who have been successful are willing to meet up and help the unsuccessful.
maybe work out some payment for the time and trouble.
I'm in Orange, CA. Have laptop and can meet anyone at a local Starbucks etc.
we could start the thread and ask that anyone close by who has rooted their phone can PM anyone looking for help.

where are you located, im sure someone near you that has been successfull could come give you a hand. That way your not shipping your phone

root mytouch slide 3g

In case anyone is having trouble rooting thier mytouch slide. I did it with a mac and it works 100% im using the team fenix rom and it works beautifully.
here is the tutorial on how to do it.
it takes some learning if your new at terminal like i was but it works. My suggestion to anyone who is trying to root thier phone is they dont use the "adb loob.bat" method as I could never figure it out. My device appeared but never in recovery mode as its supposed to. Use the thread above and if you have any questions send me a message. This way works 100 percent!
Hi, I am really stuck and I am curious in how you got it going, can you please post the instructions because I cannot see a link in your post?
thanks in advance

Can you please link to the instructions? I am very interested.
where is that link?
I am trying to use this set of instructions now and have been struggling with it all day. I rooted my G1 but i guess that was an easy one to do.
I can only get half way thru step 6 to the ADB stuff before my terminal starts saying that there are errors. Gonna keep at it and see if I cant figure it out.
DANG. I have to post 8 times to post a link. This isnt spam it is instructions for rooting a slide. stand by...
Would you mind posting the instructions? I'm having a hard time rooting my phone. I have the Clockwork Recovery mode installed but I can't get any roms to install. When I reboot the phone it goes back to the T-Mobile 2.1 build of android so I think I'm missing something.

So does the update.zip actually install or does it complain about signatures?
To get # in the shell you need to type 'su'
Just because a "root" app runs doesnt mean you have root either.

yes it installs without errors. I literally just rewrote the updater.script to include the sgh-t959d and installed it on my device.

If you know your way around odin, you can make a back up of your kernel image by doing this from your device:
Code:
[FONT=Verdana]# dd if=/dev/block/bml8 of=/sdcard/recovery bs=4096
[FONT=Verdana]# dd if=/dev/block/bml7 of=/sdcard/zImage bs=4096[/FONT]
[/FONT]
You can then copy both from your sdcard onto your computer. Now you will need a linux box or cygwin to package the files we just pulled into odin files:
Code:
tar -H ustar -c /path/to/zImage > USCC-stock-kernel.tar
Then try flashing one of jt1134's kernels just to test and see if they work on your device, i dont know why they wouldnt.
sorry im noob at this...
so the update.zip for telus fascinate works??? or no
Do i just insert the file to my sdcard and update it through recovery console?

Also, Apparently Z4Root works, but I never knew about it so I did this. Try that too.
Still need a forum for this bad boy.
I vote it get's called the fascibrant, Because it's NOT a T-Mo vibrant (Different radio) and it sure as hell isn't a fascinate. (different... everything. )
Yeah, I'm thinking about picking up a Telus Fascinate. Although it would be niche community for roms yes? As far as I know Telus is the only carrier to have this specific device... I currently have a desire, and there's plenty to do with that phone. I'm just a bit worried even with root access, there will be a limit to the phones capability still.
All that aside, YES, we do need a forum specific to this rare beast.

True.. even tho its called Fascinate.. its not actually THE fascinate...
In fact the model number is more similar to vibrant than fascinate
(T959 =vibrant T959D =telus "fascinate")
Yesterday I bought invisibleshield by zagg for samsung fascinate and guess what
it doesn't fit!! Samsung tweaked the model designfrom the original
fascinate. surprise surprise.......
I am desperately waiting custom roms to be developed for telus "fascinate"
so that I can remove this old 2.1 Telus fascinate getting froyo update early

That sounds like the type of stuff i would get. that or a push file via adb thing. It doesn't sound like a clockwork bricking. The problem with CWM is that it doesn't have the verification step that amon-ra does. Are you flashing roms from these forums? I trust the devs here, but I don't think I would flash a rom that isn't from here w/o a recommendation from one of the devs. I would plug the phone in and let it go for a bit and try again after it has a charge.

yes we can power on we can use cwm mod hell we can place a pbmimg on the sd card, it just wont read it because s=on at the time
in doing a massive google search
any chance this would work

if not anyone got any ideas?
3 more questions
a: is there a way to get s=off without android loaded, between just the bootloader and cwm avalible? this way we can hopefully just use the pbmimg
B: is there a way to replace cwm with amon ra in this current state to use flashback21? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026
and this is a really crazy thought but can we take the backup we created tonight from his eris... both phones are EXACTLY alike, purchased at the same time and all...and use it to flash in cwm to recover the dead phone?
there is way to flash S=OFF through recovery. Flash the file from here..

part? 777 file

Ok idk exactly what it is called but I know it has 777 in it. The file that is created on your SD card when you root using GFree. I saw someone had it posted on here somewhere a while ago but now I can no longer find it. Anyone have a link to that file? Please and Thank you! part7backup-000000000.bin is created in root of your /mnt/sdcard/~ when you ran the gfree. If you lost it then sorry I don't think anyone ease's would work as I am not 100% sure if that is device specific but it may be leading to that.
Far as the cache error goes I hope it works out for ya as thats the closest soft-brick we have. But do you have adb installed? If so push and flash the CMWR2.5.1.2 manually. I didn't isolate the issue if it's gfree related as we still need data to verify those who are effected are only gfree users or folks who just simply did root.sh without gfree.

Yeah I know I had this stupid cache crap before and it was a b**ch to fix here is the link to my thread

And I have ADB and EBL (Hboot 85.2007) and last time pushing the old CWM worked but this time no dice I get Write FAILED everytime. So I hear that the PMG15.IMG can possibly fix this issue as well but I need that part7 file and I dont have mine anymore thanks to CM7 killing my SD card a while back anyhow I have seen it posted for DL here before and I think it worked for the guy who used it, I mean its worth a shot. BTW it was me who posted the CMWR2.5.1.2 flash leak on another forum as I was here on XDA manually hacking the SLC-EUDA emmc block trying to replicate the issue the first person in MT4G to have in here. But if all you get now is fail partition update (fail-pu) then there is nothing else you can do. I still need more data to isolate if this is just gfree user based and not those who has s-off with eng boot without gfree. I try to do more test today but I can't roll the gfree maybe I am lucky? but ill post my finding if I ever able to get it and replicate the conditions. Only known meth to fix this is replacing the motherboard for now.
So you're saying PMC15.IMG wont fix this either? I don't understand why last time I was able to ADB push CWM 2.5.1.2 via Fastboot and then go into Recovery, Format cache and it was fine phone booted. I reflashed CWM 3.1.2.4 and went about my business...now it happens again and I can not flash CWM via recovery this time and thus I'm boned?? FML I JUST got this phone...my last ones screen peeled away, it was a referb from insurance so it was replaced with this one.
I work for T-Mobile so I really don't wanna bork my phone enough to hide root then send it in for a warrenty replacement cuz I don't think its right to screw my own company but damn I don't want to be out a phone, my back up phone's menu button doesn't work so it's really freaking annoying , guess I will deal till the Sensation 4g!
i dont rememeber which unroot thread but one of them has it, and supposedly it works with any mytouch 4g. not just the one it was created on
Well once you have fail-pu on hboot when you try to revert back to PD15IMG (rom/radio) both update will fail as you can't write to the partition block. Now far as I know this is only seen in CMWR3.0.0.0+ which at the time I flashed it manually though terminal. At this point there is way to many variables to consider mostly we need community input as those who is effected did use gfree as it could mean why the emmc simply gets -ro access now I am aware its using slc-euda so you can't low level format it this is the reason they replace the motherboard. We are not just talking about single partition here as it seems the recovery partition is first thing to be effected. I need to do some more work and atm I only have 1 phone and I don't feel like hacking it and end up with dead as I don't have any backup phones as I gave it away. Let me see if I can get another MT4G cheaper from ebay/cl and I can test on it.

Thats the gfree revert meth which is the only place you use part7backup and then if you want to roll back to stock eng bootloader you do the unroot.sh which flash the eng.nb0 and turns S-OFF.
Alright so let me get this all played out in my terms so I can see if I understand it.
1. Do I actually need that part file? I rooted with gfree so I figure yes
2. Will PMG15.IMG work at all or no?
3. Should I just say F it all and try anyhow? If so anyone wanna throw me a link to the part file?
4. I STILL don't get why this happened the first time! And why the way I fixed it the 1st time isn't doing $hit the 2nd time...
UGH! Damn it why couldn't this happen the end of May closer to when the Sensation 4G is suppose to launch... :'( damn you CWM ghost...

Stuck in cwm recovery!! Help!!!

Okay, so here's my situation...
I installed TWRP with no issues, and a few days later installed CWM recovery (just because it's what I'm used to from previous device usage), but just today an OTA occurred. Yes, I'm an idiot and was warned not to do this and for that I am getting hit my some severe karma. Anyways, all I want to do is get my device working again. I could care less if it's stock, and I lose all of my data. I just want it to return to normal functionality. I'm on CWM version 6.0.4.4 and have no ADB support so I'm unable to push any files for a restore. Also, I have backups in my TWRP folder, but cannot access them from the restore from /sdcard menu. If anyone out there could help me out I'd be so damn grateful. Thanks!!!

Actually, I can't even revert to stock. Don't have any files that I can use to restore. Can't push them from PC. I think I'm out of options. Unless you can think of anything. Is there anyone I can directly get a hold of to help resolve this for me? I know I'm not the only one who has gotten this error.

I've been asking around, but no luck so far. It's only been a few hours since it happened, so I'm hoping that I'll hear from someone soon. I really don't want to send it into LG. Ha.

Either volume up+power and volume up and power while plugging in USB while connected to PC
FIXED!
If anyone out there needs help with this issue, I've found a very simple quick fix.
1. http://koush.com/post/universal-adb-driver Download and install this. For some reason it enables you to use ADB while in CWM.
2. Plug in your device while powered on and in recovery mode.
3. Now, enter the following commands in order.
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota of=/sdcard/fota-backup.img
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
4. TA DA! You should be able to reboot your device in full functionality!
Note: The command prompt was copy and pasted by me from this forum --- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
Big thanks to thecubed for getting me outta this one!

I am in the same situation. Please describe it in detail as to where to enter the command. Specifically where do I get "adb shell" and how to get this command prompt. Thank you so much
I was having the same problem tried everything to get it to reboot even the universal drivers still didn't work. I ended up using ubuntu and installing the jdk and sdk then ran the command that was in the TWRP tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696) and it worked like a charm. 9 hours though :/ hope this helps a little bit. if you dont have a computer running ubuntu just make a live cd and you can do it from that!
this was the link to the question I had posted.

Worked beautifully, after a few hours, almost gave up. This was so simple, it's aggravating.
same problem stuck in cwm menu
