software help - HD2 General

hey I am hoping someone here can help me out
I just re-flashed to the energy rom series which fixed most of my software compatibility issues. The problem I currently have is this I have aprogram that was wrote for wm5/6.1 what it does is creates a virtual comport to allow the phone to be controlled my AT commands. According to the log file it is creating a virtual comport of COM7 however when I do search the services of the phone there is nothing listed other than the activesync service port.
I am hoping there is someone here that can help me debug and sort this out I just am not up on debugging the WM OS
Thanks,
yonu

is there no one that can at least give me an idea It does create a serial port on the HD2 named com7 but it doesn't become available under bluetooth services
Any advice would be great
Thanks,
yonu

USBSwitch

Apparently Treo 700 owners get a new utility in the latest verizon ROM update to switch the connector between RNDIS and Serial mode called "USBSwitch".
The USBSwitch utility is a workaround that lets you connect through a method other than RNDISĀ¹. This is useful if your desktop PC configuration uses third-party software or network configurations that interfere with ActiveSync's ability to connect via RNDIS. RNDIS is capable of working correctly if the settings are properly configured, but some of these settings may be configurable only by your organization's IT Helpdesk.

PS: I have used your rom before this one, both are very good roms, but they have the same problem.

Is it possible to change the MAC ADDR of Hermes?

Hello to all,
Currently McDonalds provided a free wifi for 20mins for each device
Is it possible to change my MAC ADDRRESS of my PPC to enjoy other 20mins?
and I'd search for some old post...
is that the MAC stored in the wifi chip's and there's nothing to do with the registry,
The only possible way is to change the original drivers ?
thankyou
PS. My Hermes is running WM5
There is some discussion regarding changing the MAC address of the Hermes using a custom mode controller for the TIACXWLN driver. Check out this thread here.
Since I haven't found the time to try downgrading to WM5 to test the older driver out, would you be so kind as to help test a theory of mine by installing the custom mode controller to you device to see if you can set a custom MAC address and/or set promiscuous mode? The file can be downloaded for free and is located at the bottom of AlexB's website found here.
Once you download and install the .cab, the program can be found in
"/program files/custom controller/tiacxwln_ctrl.exe"
Enable WIFI in your com manager and execute this program. Let us know if you can successfully set your MAC address or enable promiscuous mode.
Cheers and good luck

Using haret with local loopback

Hi everyone,
i'm not sure if this should be posted here or someone did it before.
So please delete this thread if this is a known fact or does not belong here
During experiments with haret on various platforms, i thought about a simple method to get access to the haret console without the need of a host computer.
There's a little trick to make this work:
Every device with some networking features has a loopback IP-address.
The IP of this "network device" is 127.0.0.1 and can be used to access haret console locally, right on your mobile device.
1. Start a version of haret suitable for your mobile device.
2. Tap on the button "Listen for network connection".
3. Start a telnet client on your device (e.g pocketputty).
4. Connect to 127.0.0.1:9999.
That's it!
Works perfect with my hermes and universal, when i'm on the road and need to verify of some internal settings or some register settings
I hope this maybe helpful for anyone.
Cheers,
scholbert

you may provide a link to the putty .cab file here
It would be nice to at least tell the ignorant ones wtf is haret...
Hi,
thanks for the remarks!
So here's the pocketputty cab.
Have a look for updates here:

O.K. nice entry
HaRET stands for Handheld Reverse Enginering Tool.
Have a look here to get deeply involved:
http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/HaRET
It may be used to debug and do other investigation on settings in the processor's registers, as well as start some binaries other than wince or winmob applications on windows based devices.
One of it's common purpose is to start a linux kernel on your mobile device for the first time (and much more often afterwards ).
At least it's mainly used by linux developers to check out what has to be done and set to make a linux kernel boot on your device!
Best regards,

Registered Virtual COM ports

Hi,
I am trying to create a virtual COM port using RegisterDevice(), to use the BT serial service on a WM device having MS stack (using btd.dll). I am able to successfully create a virtual COM port and write to it.
My question is this: Is there a way to find out if a particular virtual COM port (COMx) has already been registered using the RegisterDevice() call? I could not find it in the registry. The reason I want to know is that, I don't want to create a new virtual COM port, if one already exists.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
