Would it be possible for the us end-users to reflash the Galaxy S back an OEM/Unbranded firmware. I've read on the Singapore forums that the SingTel firmware is the major culprit for the slowdowns even after updating it to the latest version.
Yes it shouldn't be a problem. Check Samsung-Firmare website for instructions and flash files.
samsung-firmware.webs.com
that site?
http://samsung-firmware.webs.com/WEBPROTECT-samsungi9000.htm
to be more precise
So reflashing with these firmwares will remove the branded firmware from the telco ?

Yes. Do not install the Asia firmwares....it's still the Singtel branded version. The Euro versions are unbranded.

Philippines, I dont have the phone yet but thats the usual case here since our local telco got the exclusive deal to sell the handset, the current and only stocks they have are SingTel units but arnt sim-locked yet.. Probably the next batch they will get this July will be sim-locked.

@Earlz,
Greetings from Singapore! kennyboy from HWZ had in fact flashed to the euro version, and now he had even rooted his phone using Leshak's files.
I will be updating to the euro version of the firmware, jf3 when it is available for download.

Not fully, since its possible that when the handsets arrive here in my place they will be locked by the telco and the instructions on flashing stats that make sure the phone is not simlocked.

Firmware I9000XWJM8 is now officially an official firmware.
If your phone is region code TMN, you can upgrade without hacks or test mode by using Kies. The rest of us (should we for some reason want to) can use the hack described in this post.
2.2 ROM? any changelog?
Nice one.
I'm in TMN region.... Still using JM8 without all that TMN provider stuff...

I would not do that, TMN versions are heavly branded...
I would bet that most TMN users in the forum have installed an unofficial ROM just to clean all the branding.

Well, when I updated my firmware to DDJG4 here in India via kies, all my data on the phone memory was wiped clean, without any prior information. Yeah, IMO, having a backup ready would be wise irrespective of whether this happens to you or not..
is there a froyo release available for TMN now? my phone is not TMN and I'm not from Portugal, but somehow, my phone upgraded from JM1 to TMN JM8

No you will not be able to flash different Roms, unless Motorola breaks form. Normally the signing keys are not the same from provider to provider.

as far as i know,
our region (Indonesia) doesn't seem have that specified firmware (like US, UK, etc).
so, we r using the global generic firmware.
there's no such thing as "Indonesia Firmware".
its global generic firmware.
Indonesia is one of many countries that's using global generic firmware
my arc is made from Singapore, and still, its using generic global firmware.
not "Singapore Firmware" .
hope it helps.

yes. i bought my arc in indonesia, got 2.3.2 by default, OTA to 2.3.3, then flash to generic global .368 (LT15i_4.0.A.2.368_Generic Global.zip).
and when i plug the arc to my pc last week, pc companion says 2.3.4 update is available ! woot
btw, what's the different between arc SO-01C and arc LT15i?
(besides SO-01C is a japanese version)
Nothing. 1-2-5 bands like LT15a. Lots of bloatware but most can be deleted.

That's all with the exception of it is locked to Docomo at purchase, has a japanese keyboard option, one additional static wallpaper (blue/pink) and one additional live wallpaper (ambient time).
and why dont they just make the same firmware.. just too complicated to create special firmware for japan but no big difference at all with the other firmwares.. @[email protected]
who knows..

Hello guys. I have a question. My phone code on the box is 6NE and the firmware version that came with it is D80210A-EUR-XX. The problem is that i dont really know the origin of the phone so i dont know what version is the correct for me. I already know that the letters NE can mean "North Europe" but i also know that the actual North Europe version has the code 6NEU and not just 6NE like mine. Does anyone else have the same code as mine and has figured out for which country is it for?
Also, i have learned from a person who has the same code as me that if you try to update it from the LG PC Suite, it will install the vodafone version of kitkat (D80220A-VDF). That was almost 2 weeks ago. I am waiting for an OTA update but it doesnt find anything yet. Will i eventually get the vodafone version too if i wait for an OTA update or will it give me the open europe version when it is available?
Try to go to http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=YOURIMEI, swap " yourimei" with your imei code on the phone.
You find the imei by dialing *#06#
Look after the suffix code. It defines your location
Ps. Don't post your imei (esn) or msn code on that page

I searched for it from the suffix and it turns out to be 6D2 (vodafone germany) which is very odd...since there was no branding visible at all. Neither on the box that came with nor inside the phone. Why would they sell a branded phone with an open europe firmware (D80210A-EUR-XX) as stock and no indication of any branding? Are you sure that the suffix code is reliable on this?

Its A6D2BK. But why didnt they write 6D2 on the box and they wrote 6NE instead? Also, it is supposed to be for Germany but inside the manuals etc are written in Scandinavic languages and not German. It makes no sense.
wtf? mine is from New Zealand (A6NEBK) according to this list ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2528843&page=437 ), but in google searches it's listed in Scandinavian shops (and some Lithuanic). I wonder if i receive the open europe version of kitkat since my stock firmware is D80210A-EUR-XX or if i receive the vodafone branded kitkat (D80220A-VDF) that some people have said to get when they tried to do the update from PC Suite. I also have the 6ne and found out that 6NE(new zealand) is not 6NEU(north europe). I brick it with wrong kitkat update but i fixed it again by flashing the europe open kdz firmware. It works perfect. After that i found the original firmware here (i need 10 posts to add url i ll be back and edit this)
but i wonder if this firmware is the same as europe open. I will wait from the site above when kitkat update is out for the 6ne to download it from there and flash it.
The strangest thing happened! I checked that link again last night and today morning and the info changed! Now the suffix code changed to A6NEBK. I have no idea why this happened although to tell you the truth i m glad that it no longer lists my phone's suffix as vodafone branded.

Anyway, i guess we have no other option than to wait for the update and hope that it will come this month as they announced.
