There are 4 sensors in Galaxy S GT-I9000 (European and Asian version):
- SMB380 - Acceleration sensor by Bosch
- MS-3C or YAS529 - Geomagnetic sensor, Orientation sensor by Yahama
- gp2a - proximity by gp2a
- gp2a light sensorby sharp
Both SMB380 and MS-3C are triaxial sensor (3+3 =6 axes ???)
Gyroscope is superior to Acceleration sensor.
SMB380 itself definitely cannot comparable to Gyroscope. However, Yamaha MS-3C compensates for the weak point of SMB380.
So, I suppose that Samsung vibrant, fascinate, epic,... have exactly the same hardware specs with Gt-i9000. There isn't any real gyroscope inside, but 2 trixial sensors which imitate gyroscope.
It's funny to think that samsung would redesign the mainboard for the US version just because of adding a small gyroscope.
nice info
you seem to have electrical component familiarity -
any possibility you can identify the front facing camera mfgr & model number?

I indeed don't have any electrical component familiarity.
All the sensor information is from Android System Info then I just did some small research

Hi ,
today Omar Khan in MobileBeat 2010 conference shows a slide with international version of Galaxy S and there is a sentence above it:
What do you think?

woohoo, now another feature the iphone 4 has that SGS has too. No longer will i think that the iphone 4 has something better than my SGS
the SGS i9000 actually has more feature than the iphone4
Hi, I'm getting my new i9000 tomorrow
First, I wanted a new iPhone 4 (I now have a 3G).
But the antenna problem etc. decided me now to go for the i9000.
I hope this is a good choice. (costs also less money)
Greez, Theo.
hi
sorry if i bother you and sorry if i make mistakes in writing (english is not my first language)
i need to build an aotupilot and it seems that te samsung galaxy has accelerometers, gyros, magnetic compas and gps antena all that i need.

I just downloaded an app to check out all the sensors and I was surprised to see a magnetic sensor on the nexus 4! I know the 7 has one for a flip cover. Is that why the nex 4 has one?
The question = Why does the Google Nexus 4 have a magnetic sensor?

I'm not saying it is bad or good. I just wonder what it is for.

Compass?
What's the app?

I think your app misreported the compass for a "magnetic sensor".
While we are here, the actually weird sensor here is the barometer. I am suspecting it's assisting the GPS to determine height (for hikers, for example). Or someone can also write an apps that tells you if you're in the middle of a hurricane or a storm

Well I mean there are weather alert app.
Also, yes it can detect metal, you can download metal detector app and it probably go haywired if you are in the middle of a magnetic storm too. Also there are apps that can detect your heartbeat base on the changing color of your skin by using camera and led flash.
You can't be serious... How did you think compasses work? Magic?
I never thought of that..

They put a barometer in the Gnex, which they said at the time was to help the GPS in getting a quicker lock (as you say).
I don't think any apps ever really took advantage of it though, or if they did I didn't notice any difference.
'Magnetometer' is the correct term for the 'compass sensor'.
I just got a S4 in Vietnam and currently having 2 hardware issues that I'm getting very annoyed once I know it's there:
1. The battery cover's camera hole is not fully matching with the camera module, I can see the space around the camera hole when the battery cover is put on is not even, there is more space on the above side of the hole and I believe after long usage, dusts can easily get into inside of the phone.
2. The camera module itself is not hard fixed, I can put my thumb on the surface of the camera module and try moving it around, I can feel and hear the "click-clack" sound and the module actually moving a bit around!
So I want to confirm if anyone having the same issues? Currently there are several other cases in Vietnam that having this same issue!
Together with the screen issue that mentioned by other people, I'm really disappointed with Samsung build quality with S4!
UPDATE: some images to illustrate my issues:
This is taken on my Black S4

The lens has a piece of plastic over it which on mine when pressed made a noise. I removed it by prying along the edge of the lens with my figernail, Others have done the same.

I know that piece of plastic and I took it out myself already, but that is not the issue that I'm having, you can try using your thumb and put it on the camera, then try playing/moving with it, if you can't feel it moving then good for you.
So I went to a service center today and the guy said the camera module is supposed to be like this lol
Found this thread on Reddit
http://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/2jmund/lg_g3_has_barometer_sensor/
Everywhere I read, I don't see any site listed LG G3 with barometer build in except a few comments in XDA stated it does have it. So I downloaded a Barometer app and sure it does display it! I have the D855 rooted w V10L.
To check for the reading if it's getting info from GPS location based data or using a real barometer sensor (found the info from another site somewhere):
Put the G3 in a large Ziploc bag sealed with the Barometer app running and presses on the bag to see if the sensor moves then it's a real sensor not GPS. And yes the sensor moves with the increasing pressure in the bag.
Okay, to make the test more convincing, I also have a brand new Sony Z3 Compact which has barometer listed in the spec and did the same thing in the bag along side the G3 and it's showing the same reading as I press on the bag.
So, unless I am not doing it right, I think LG or someone else never disclosed the barometer sensor being build-in in the spec sheet. Now this makes the G3 even cooler than it was before.
This is an easy test. Give it a try. Unless like the FM radio which is disabled for US version but not international version, maybe it is included in the D850 and D851? What is your take on this?

Barometer app seems to work! Very cool.
Now why would they put a barometer in and not mention it.
Now that the G3 has been found to have a pressure sensor this could be used also for an altimeter app...
Working, nice finding ...not sure what is it good for except of internal cooperation with GPS to faster calculate location.
Btw, nice application also with widget - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.redTools.osb. Is has ability to correct measured pressure by actual altitude.
Hello, everyone.

(As) Ýou can see the whole Camera Frame with Flash, i'd like to know, how to replace it.
The Camera Hardware itself doesn't have to be replaced, but the Overlay.
View attachment 3177392
So, i'd like to know:
Where to buy the Whole Frame in Original (Maximum) Quality? (Without the camera Hardware itself, only the overlay Frame)
How to Replace it with an old one, without Guarantee or Lifetime Loss of the Device?
If you can, also show me a way, to replace the camera frame
But,
I don't want to Damage the Device.
And the Device should be the same Quality as before the Operation.
The Camera Frame also must be tight. - As good as a new device out of the Box.
I don't want to force anybody for something, but please try to find links, for multiple Colours of the Camera Frame.
I still don't know, which colour i prefer.
Thank you for Reading this.

UPDATE:
Finally Found Something‼
But
Is this Free of
Guarantee Loss?
Quality Loss?
Tighty Loss?
@meawww
I'm talking about the Main 13MP Camera.
Thanks however.
If you change it correctly(without scratch or sings)everything is going well you will not void the warranty!!!
And you must to buy a original new one for replacement for quality!
Let us know!

I guess OIS Gyro is something else, it is related to Image Stabilization

You are right, OIS Gyro is used exclusively for Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). You can see in the sensor test screenshots from the previous response that the OIS only works on the "x" and "y" axis and lacks a "z" axis because the camera's image sensor only requires horizontal and vertical movement compensation to create a clear 2 dimension image. Very few mid-tier and low-tier phones include a gyroscope nowadays; I suppose that it is for cost saving and product differentiation with the top-tier models.
A5 2016 [A510F]
Antutu says:
Gyro Sensor: No
Uncalibrated Gyro Sensor: Yes
PokemonGO AR don't working.
Maybe later out update with support uncalibrated gyro devices.
Maybe later out Samsung update with improved working of gyro.
