Whenever my Evo is charging, the touchscreen acts funny. The bottom buttons don't light up, the screen sensitivity is all over the place, and it's actually picked up calls on its own. It's crazy. Anyone else having this problem?
Mine does act a little off, but not as bad as what you describe. The only consistent problem it has is that keyboard long touch doesn't work when charging. But it's no big deal since I only charge it when im sleeping now.
I have the same issue. Last night, while I had my phone plugged in and fully charged, I noticed that the buttons at the bottom were not lighting up. Initially I thought they went bad, but a reboot turned them on for a few seconds.
After playing around with it for awhile, it has to do with the light sensor I think. I'm wondering if the solid green LED (when it's fully charged) is just bright enough to where the light sensor right under it detects the light and doesn't turn on the soft button lights.

I'm using the stock charger and I have the problems he described.
I found that I can get the button lights to come on for a few seconds when it's plugged in if I cover the light sensor.

Odd, mine does it on the stock one. I'll have to check an aftermarket one and see if there's a difference.
One more here. After the OTA my touch input is all wonky when I'm plugged in.
I have the same problem with both the aftermarket and stock chargers.but when I use my old LG charger there is no problem.(this is my 3rd evo due to cracked camera lenses, they have all had the same issue).

Those with this problem. Are you on the newest OTA?
Any custom rom I run based off the latest ota my touch screen gets crazy and I don't have to have it plugged in..
As soon as I load any other custom rom that is not based off the latest ota it never happens..
I think whatever they did is the problem..I wonder if this stems from the fact that the screens aren't even the same in each EVO.
Ditto. ShapeWriter goes bonkers. Not every time it's plugged in, though. Makes it impossible to use ShapeWriter. Unplug it, works fine again.
I am on the latest OTA but this has been a problem since day one, I've been through every update.
Doesn't matter for me which charger I'm using. I exchanged mine for another one. The new one works except the long press on the keyboard... and only intermittently. Extremely weird. Both were 003's with Novatek screens.
I have this same problem. Its near impossible to use swype...the line shoots all over the place when im trying to type.
Im using DamageControl

Are you hitting them with a hammer? I don't get how people can go through phones like this....really?
update
I have noticed that it's only wonky in portrait mode. If I go to the landscape mode, everythings fine.
What are you people smokin' ..j/k I have the wall charger that came with my EVO and the wall charger that came with my Touch Pro and I don't have any problem at all. Are any of you plugged into a surge protector? They can cause unusual problems and behaviors with PED's
I had the same problem using an aftermarket charger, but not with the stock charger. The stock charger says it outputs 5.2 volts while the stock charger says it outputs 5 volts... would that cause any problems?
I had this same problem with a cheap walmart charger. Then one day with the stock charger. I move my chargers frequently but realized that I always plug it in the socket the same way.
Long story short, flip the charger. Solved my problems. I guess its a polarity problem or something. It charges with the chargers plugged in whatever way, but the screen messes up one way and not the other.
Sent from my EVO using the XDA app.
I had that problem with one evo but not another
Using the stock charger and whilst it's plugged in, the screen is completely un-usable. However, my touch screen has been acting slow and weird at times the past 2/3 weeks. ;( I think everything on this phone is just ****ty.

The touchscreen is glass. Period.
Now that that's aside, how would being glass or plastic have any relation at all to the problem you are experiencing?
no relation, just wasnt sure if it was glass or not so i threw it in there lol just noticed i have a small bubble under the glass too ahhh
Could be the charger. Sometimes the diodes go bad and allow ac voltage to leak through. This has made my g1 screen act very strange when connected to a specific charger.
also note the screen is only touch with it sense heat so cold fingers will cause this problem also

Yes I have it happen also at times, not always. With AC Charger and USB charging. I have noticied that if use a task killer before putting to charge I am ok.
Innisdb, are you using the stock t-mo wall charger, or a different one/car charger?

Do you mean charging via usb from a computer? Was the computer pluged in to ac? The thing of it is that all of the rectifiers/transformers are made out of really cheap parts. Diodes can and do leak you might never knoww until you plug in something sensitive enough to notice (capacitive touchscreen). Most high end electronics have capacitors to soak this stuff up, but I'm not sure phones have enough space to add capacitors. In a pc the motherboard has caps on it but power supply doesn't .
Also of note is that the battery can soak this stuff up too but as batt voltage comes closer to charging voltage ( like when nearing full charge) this ability deminishes. Its bad for the life of the batt and phone if this issue is a supply voltage fluctuation problem btw.
So my main complaint about the nexus 1 was the crazy digitizer. I am sitting here playing pocket legends and all of a sudden my screen starts going crazy just like on the nexus 1. I ran screen test toolkit and on the trace test i got sharp vertical lines that shot out from where my finger was tracing. I did have the phone plugged in at the time and since unplugging it seems to have gone away but the is reason enough to concern. Anyone else had this issue? May just take my phone back and get a replacement just in case.
Update: as much as I feel like a bonehead for admitting this I found the culprit. Apparently the charger i was using is not playing nice with the nexus s. It is the same charger i use for my nexus 1 an apparently it has a different power output that the nexus s doesn't like very much. Hope my mistake will help others.
I tried charging over USB at a friend's house on his dinosaur iMac, the screen started acting completely screwy as well.
this is really an intresting behavior. i didnt know a scren could do such a thing in different charger.. . live and learn
yea, why does this do this? I wonder can it be fixed with software
Why would you even try to charge it with something else since a wall charger came with it.
Because you can charge an Android phone via USB cable?
That's I think an official feature of Android.
And it MUST WORK WELL!
If not, then it is a bug in the software or hardware
I read a lot about this reports, anyone post into Google official forum?

i think you need to check other phones. as far as i know charging from usb less amp than the wall. so it shouldnt show any weird calibration issues or flicker. double check man

Yes, max amp from USB is 0.5A. Typical output for smartphone chargers is 1A. But this shouldnt be a problem, and also less amp means longer batterylife on the long run cause it doesnt stresses battery as much.

I think it's because the touchscreen on the NS seems to be more sensitive than most phones (I can get it to register input without even touching the screen sometimes) that it gets disrupted by other sources of electrical conductivity... such as the charger. Mine is ok, never really tried with the charger plugged in though. I ran multitouch visible test and I was satisfied with the tracking, it's the same if not better than the Vibrant's, which can handle 5 simultaneous inputs.
I searched and can't seem to find any threads on this topic. Odd thing is I don't get any SOD or RR on ICS but can't use my damn tablet if its charging lol. Anyone have any input on this?
just for giggles. switch the orientation of the wall charger plug and try it.
I've seen this when charging on a plane. I assume it has something to do with the voltage being supplied.
Are you using some kind of third party charger? These have been known to cause problems on any sort of technology.
I have seen this on my wifes tf once before, never on mine or my spare...
But with 50% of my micro USB cables it will happen on my infuse... Most frequently while charging in the car. The issue seemed to be a combination of crappy cables and crappy chargers and heat... If my phone was hot it was far more likely to occur than if it was cold. I haven't charged my phone via a plug on months though, I have 4 batteries I rotate, keeping 3 charged at all times

I think it's a voltage thing. Im a long distance courier and i have an ac adapter in my van. When charging through a regular wall socket everything is fine. Yet when plugged into my inverter the screen is not responsive, as soon as i unplug it is fine. I typically use my tablet for netflix while im on the road. So i usually end up pressing play then plug it in. My inverter is rather weak, i was thinking of buying a higher output to see if it corrected things.
This post doesn't really help you, just letting you know you're not alone. If you can't charge while plugged into a wall socket, perhaps your charger is defective and is not sending out the proper current?
Good luck, i hope you find a solution.

Same thing happened with my SGS.
So, it's not a TF only problem.
Happens on Nook Color too.
Sometimes it's not just unresponsive, it's erratic and causes touch events to register all over the screen for no reason. These happen only when plugged in so I assume there's some voltage issue.
Hey everyone,
I've tried searching, but no luck, so here's my issue.
My nexus 7 was around 25% battery last night so I plugged it in for the night.
Woke up this morning and the backlight was on, but the screen was off.
When I unplugged my n7 the backlight turned off. Hitting the power button had no effect.
I then tried pushing and holding the power button for roughly a minute, nothing.
I have disconnected the battery and still no response from the unit.
I plugged it back in for roughly a minute as well, still nothing.
Unfortunately I don't have access to a charger right now.
Is it possible the battery is dead even though it was on the charger all night?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Weird.
Just plugged it in to my car charger and it booted up. Battery is completely dead, so I guess with the backlight staying on all night it didn't charge.
Now why would the backlight stay on if the screen is off...

Don't go flashing different roms and kernels now like most of the idiots here, it could just have been your charger being faulty or a bad connection to the tablet overnight. if the problem happens again then you can investigate further.
BTW, were you charging from your PC/Laptop with a USB cable or through a wall adapter? i've had issues in the past charging my Nexus 4 and 7 not charging overnight on my PC
I feel like a broken record but since I've fixed a ton of n7s with loose battery connections, I would recommend checking the internal battery lead to make sure its not loose. Asus didn't do a good job of making sure all n7 batteries were secure and this allowed the battery to shift and pull the power lead out. Some clear scotch tape on the connector and one on the battery (avoid the copper tape areas) will eliminate this problem if that's what you have.

I ran into this problem. Initially, my Nexus 7 didn't start. When I plug in the charger the screen would flicker from time to time but there's no indication of charging. So I decided to open it up to see that the battery cable has loosened. So I managed to fix it and use it happily thinking that it won't happen again.
Since last week, the same issue happened. I thought it was the same issue and opened it up to see that the battery cable is firmly in place. So I got a shock. I removed it and re-inserted it again to see if it fixed it. But nope, it won't turn on. And now it's been a week and I don't know what to do It's nothing wrong with the loose cable cuz now it's firmly in place.
Now when I plug it in to charge, the screen will just flicker (as in the back light will turn on and off in 5 sec intervals). What do you think I should do? I tried holding the power button for 30 secs as well.
I bought this new from eBay and still under warranty. But I live in Sri Lanka. So when I bought it, I had to ship to a friend in the US and had to wait till he came down. So it's not easy for me to ship back and to receive another device. Hopefully I can find a solution to fix this myself.

Make sure that the cables between the battery and the connector are intact and not broken. One or two people reported a broken cable.
Does it boot while plugged in to the charger with the battery disconnected ? You could simply have a bad battery.

I checked again. The cables aren't broken. They are all in good shape.
It doesn't boot when I plug in. Actually it doesn't show anything on the screen. If I look closely I can see static flicker on the screen from time to time. Just like the static in TV but much much less. Like only a few of those in certain places.
When this happened the first time I opened it up to see the loose cable. So fixing that helped it then. But now I dunno what's causing it.

Might have to try a different charger, maybe something stronger. I JUST had that problem with my GF Nexus 7. It wouldn't boot with her normal charger and the screen would flicker like a TV. I used my Nexus 4 charger and it worked.
She had left the battery fully drain for over two weeks and I think the battery didn't appreciate it.

Take it off and put it back on the charger and it won't start charging unless I unplug the cable from the back of the orb and plug it back in. This is very inconvenient and I'm wondering if the orb just sucks or is it just mine? Please give me input if you have the official wireless charging orb.

I dont have this issue, knock on wood. Mine charges to 99%, then slowly to 100% and then stops the LED, I turn the screen on to see the % and its charging again.
I am not sure how the LED's are displayed, does the LED off mean its done charging and is on battery now?
In either case, Once I see its at 100% and the LED is off, i remove it from the orb, it soon drops to 99%, 98% but stabilizes.
Ya I don't have that issue , mine charges to 100 then stops drops down to 98 then starts charging agn to 100... If I was u I would install factory IMG get it 100% stock and see what happens if u get same results , ID send in for warranty , i like the orb but hate how its not recognized as a charging dock, Romanbb ( aokp) is writing code to change this tho

I had the same issue until some bright person told me that the wall plug was a different ampage than the wall plug that came with the N4. 1.2 amps as opposed to 1.8. This made the difference to the problem you are having for me. What are you using in the socket?
Unfortunately the problem I am having now with this Orb (and another Qi wireless charger that I purchased as I thought the Orb was faulty) is that the N4 will turn off n the middle of the night. Not good when you are relying on the alarm clock!!!
In using the cable and plug that orb came with. Which are you using? The cable and plug that the phone came with? And that's fixed your issue except for the turning off?
